After reading reviews of this hotel on various websites, we were all pleasantly surprised by the Kitano. 6 of us had travelled to New York for the new year celebrations. The hotel was clean, the service was excellent and the room was exactly what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The only draw back to the whole experience was that the air conditioning was horrendous. Our room was hotter than the surface temperature of the sun and the air con did nothing to help. I even had a cold shower at one stage to cool down! Bear this in mind if you are planning to stay in the summer as it must be intolerable. I know that it wasn'y just my room as our companions were in 2 other rooms and they had the same problem. Definitely check to see if they have upgraded before travelling in warmer months. Apart from this, enjoy New York, it's fantastic!

We were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The entrance is welcoming and comfortable, always a good start. The room was the same. Clean, comfortable, large. Wall-mounted flat TV, plenty of wardrobe space, lots of plugs for hairdryers and chargers (unusual, we've found). Shiseido amenities in the large bathroom, and the best smelling towels. The hotel staff were lovely: helpful and very welcoming. The location is pretty good - easy access to the Empire State Bldg, Macys, Times Square and a 20-minute walk to the other big stores: Saks, Bergdorfs etc.

Read the good reviews of thr Kitano before staying, but the hotel more than exceeded my expectations. The room was comfortable and larger than I usually get in NYC. The only very minor complaint is that the towels were not very plush - more like dish towels than bath towels. However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We picked this hotel because of its high ratings on Hotels.com and Trip Advisor. Having been to New York twice before and knowing how hard it can be to find calm and quiet, we were sold with the number of comments that said the Kitano provided just that. It does! We arrived early and received courteous and professional service in a calm and understated lobby. Our room was available immediately. It was very clean and, in the style of the hotel, simple and understated. There was a small window (about half the size of the wall) but we had a clear view of the Empire State Building, which was beautiful when lit at night. The room itself was silent and it remained that way. We needed extra towels, as we are a family of 4, which were provided the second we asked. The service was good and professional throughout. The Kitano defiinitely provides an oasis of tranquillity and was a wonderful place to lay our weary heads each evening. I have never stayed anywhere in such a quiet hotel; nor on such comfy beds with very good quality bed linen. Grand Central is within a few minutes walk; the New York Public Library and Bryant Park within an easy 10 minute walk and similar for the Empire State Building. We enjoyed our stay and would stay their again.

If you like tea or coffee in the morning, bring your own as they only provide green tea bags! If we are back in New York, we would definitely check the price of this hotel - we got it at a special price on Hotels.com. Hotel very central to many sights and only 2 blocks from Grand Central.

We were a little disappointed with the Kitano, especially for a four star hotel. There was nothing very awe-inspiring or Asian, and for the money you could stay in a nicer place. It was just a basic cookie-cutter chain type hotel. The staff was mixed. When we got out of the cab upon arrival they didn't really help with the bags or open doors. Once inside they did take our bags, but disappeared, so we had to grab them and carry them ourselves, which wasn't a big deal - just a little odd. The room we were offered was clean, but pretty worn, so we asked to change rooms. Oddly enough they ended up giving us a room with "a view" of industrial vents vs the street view we had before. The condition of the rooms was about the same. I was afraid to complain again, because they probably would have put us in the basement. The service was decent on the last day, so maybe we had bad luck in that regard; however, I wouldn't really recommend the hotel as anything special. If you can get a good price and are just looking to be in the city, then it's probably OK, but if you are looking for a unique New York experience - this wouldn't be the the place.

Since this hotel was a block from the Grand Hyatt, and almost half of the price for a three day stay, I wasn't sure what to expect. In fact, the rate was low enough that I was thinking I would have to deal with closet sized rooms and mold in the bathroom. This hotel gave me a wonderful surprise! The greeting at the front desk was first rate - they even remembered me from calling a few nights before and had some extra things for me on hand without my needing to ask again! The room was a nice size and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was also large and looked newly redone. The room service was very reasonably priced, and didn't include a ridiculous amount of surcharges. I plan to stay at the Kitano every time I am back in Midtown. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

I had read very good reviews of this hotel and it lived up to expectations. The room itself was a decent size for NY and with a very comfortable bed, desk, two armchairs and a kettle with green tea provided. The decor was simple, elegant and calming and I must say I did prefer it to boutique hotels we have stayed in on previous visits to NY. The bathroom was a good size too and very clean. Hotels may say they are 4 star but then when you look down at the sink, 9 times out of 10, around the stopper has not been cleaned properly. That was how clean it was! Check in and check out process was very efficient and overall staff were responsive although we did not eat there. Location is perfectly situated in midtown area so is a good base to explore the Island and is in a quieter area just behind Grand Central station. Overall enjoyed our stay very much and am glad we got a good deal on the price.

Good working desk for business con: the bed is too soft and they put the tea maker next to the bed, which would mean you'd have to trip over it to get to bath.

Absolutely quick and thoughtful service, attentive, professional and complete. View of Empire State Building on Valentines Day! Central heater was off when we first tried it, but called the desk and on it went! Beatiful Park Avenue location just 3 short blocks from Grand Central. Beautiful large lobby where we would have gladly waited for our room (though we didn't have to.) Lounge had an excellent Jazz trio with the best Jazz drummer I've ever heard in person - spent one evening listening and drinking Martinis there instead of staying out. Price was around $240, way less than Marriot Marquis - our old regular spot (now replaced by this one.) Everything was perfect for our Valentine getaway.
