I enjoyed the cordial and courteous assistance that I received in getting around and staying at the hotel. I was able to use the Subway to reach most of the sights that were on my sightseeing list. This was supposedly a 4 star hotel. The beds were so hard I thought I was sleeping on the floor. The room was freezing. The heater blew cold air. The pillows were pathetic. The buffet breakfast was overpriced to say the least. We stayed at Holiday Inn in Hangzhou -- which is also classified as a 4-star -- the same price per night included the buffet […] breakfast which was awesome. Really great location. Really good price for the quality you get. Easy to get from Airport by subway or Taxi and use subway to get around. Rooms clean and adequate. But staff pretty average. Make sure you ask for a room on the quiet side of the hotel away from the major road. Worth a stay if you don't need a top end hotel kind of experience

Great location if you plan to use the subway. The Dongsi Shitaio subway station is at the front door of the hotel, so it's easy to get around if you plan to use the subway, and that station is one stop from the Airport Express line. The room was decent for the price. It's very slightly showing signs of age, but not too bad.

hotel conveniently located on the east side of 2nd ring. About 20min walking distance to Sanlitun, a popular trendy part of town. Lots of rooms with good breakfast. Beds are hard, hot water runs out towards late at night. Had to take cold shower for 2 days.

Nice ambiance, room had a nice setup, everything looked new (or redecorated), and very very clean. There is a subway station right outside the hotel entrance, making it very convenient if you plan to cover Beijing by the subway. Also very helpful hotel staff, which speak English fluently (not very common in Beijing hotels!).

I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the subway; on the #2 line, the hotel is one stop away from Dongzhimen, where the Airport Express originates. The room was clean and quiet, the towels white and fluffy, and the beds were comfortable (though the mattresses were old and stained). We asked for a quiet room away from the elevators, and they […] gave it to us. I thought I had reserved a room with a double bed, but by the time my husband and I checked in (late afternoon), all they had left in non-smoking rooms were twin beds. The twin beds are almost full sized, so this was fine. Around the back of the hotel, across the street, there is a Starbucks, a 7-11, and a couple of restaurants. We bought water at the 7-11 instead of paying 30 rmb for water in the room. We only stayed one night, so I can't say much about the service, but when I called and asked for a late check out, I got it. Lobby WiFi is terrible, but there is free WiFi at the Starbucks. Coffee at the hotel cafe was way overpriced and not very good. Read more

The Swissotel is a 5-star hotel in China terms, which is like a 3 1/2 or 4 star elsewhere. The room was clean and comfortable (tho with a hard bed, as others note, which didn't bother me), and the service was good. However, be really careful with what electronics you bring to China, as the internet in the hotel is monitored, even at foreign-owned hotels […] (which can be a serious concern for business people because of corporate espionage, as the Washington Post has reported recently). On various occasions, I saw outside computers linked to my computer, saw that emails had already been read before I opened them, and had difficulty with my internet service being shut down when using Google and Google Maps. The location is excellent, right in front of a Metro exit, and only one stop from the Airport Express station. There is a big mall nearby, about 10 minutes walk. The front desk is efficient: check-in is fast, and check-out took practically no time. Staff is courteous. The recreation facility is sufficient. There is also free yoga classes at the gym […] with an attentive instructor. Although the in-room internet connection charge is high, there is free wireless connection at the lobby, and their computer technician is remarkably capable and courteous. My room is well furnished and it does not feel like cookie-cutter. The bathroom is a bit dated (still using the old-fashioned bathtub) but this seems to give more space to the room (in my previous stay at this hotel, the bathrooms have both shower and tub, but then the rooms were small.) When I go to Beijing, as long as my budget allows, I stay at this hotel. Read more

Overall, the place was OK, but the experience was severely dampened by two things - The concierge wouldn't call me a cab - instead he recommended I go, "wait on the street for a while". Also, I was lead to believe the breakfast buffet (which consisted mostly of stale pastries, bread, and pancakes that always seemed like they were at least a day old) […] was complimentary, but was charged 200 RMB (about 30 dollars, US) for each sitting when I checked out!
