My biggest gripe was that I was surprised to learn that there was an $8 per day charge to park my car rental at the hotel. I was quoted a $35 taxi cab one way from airport to hotel (about 8 miles north of airport). If you don't rent a car, expect to pay about $70 round trip for a taxi. Much better beaches on the island, but still a nice place to wake up and grab a coffee and watch the sunrise. No internet service in the rooms, but a big open lobby space where you can access the internet free. The free breakfast, was croissants, donuts, and bananas, and coffee. The hotel is cheap so I wasn't expecting some awesome place. We weren't in the room that much so for us it was fine just to come back and sleep in. Construction was going on which was a little annoying and you can hear people on their porches in your room so just be prepared to wake up around 8 when everyone else wakes up and construction begins. There is not one thing in the room which does not need to be replaced. The entire property needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Until that happens, and I doubt it will, I would not recommend this hotel.

You get what you pay for. Rooms are spare, but very clean. Property is older, but everything works. You go to Kauai to explore, not lay around in a hotel room, so this place is perfect for the budget vacation- beds are comfy, rooms have air conditioning. 2 pools plus on the beach. Awesome stay.

I have been going there for 8 years and they now charge for parking. Not included when sighing up. Also I paid $99 and $129 for two nights stay each time and a friend staying with us was charged only $75 per night. I don't think that was fair. I will not stay there again.

After reading all the reviews and talking to our friend who had stayed here for a month, I had very low expectations. It was a very basic room, with a small shower, small refrigerator, and a bed. The room was a little out dated and the bed wasn't very comfortable but it was clean and the service was good. SO if you are expecting the Ritz Carlton dont pick this hotel. But if you want an old but clean place to sleep this is it. My first impression was "ouch what did I do" but after looking around it was, like I said, old but clean for the age. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful with anything we asked..thanks Claire and Ben! The pool was clean and you are steps to the beach, two outdoor showers-one by the pool and one to the north side of the beach area. The beach straight off Hotel is not a place for swimming!! But when you hit the walk way follow it to the left, a very short distance, and it leads you through the neighboring resort to the public beach access. That beach is a lot of fun for ALL ages. Kids protected area and at mid to low tide you can snorkel out quit a bit. The waves just keep you put. We didn't feel any pull or under tow...always ask a local before entering any beach area. Landscaping was fresh and well kept. On rainy days they have a huge sitting room facing the ocean, great stormy photo ops. Overall the affordability of this trip/room was wayyyyy worth it. One piece of advice not related to the hotel, unless you live in an LA type traffic area and ride a scooter/moped on a regular basis...do not rent scooters, taking your life in your hands! Read more

Absolute BARE BONES hotel. MINIMAL comforts. No coffee pot. 2 Outlets that were loaded up with lamps, bad TV, alarm clock. Zero for charging cell phones, cameras. 1 in TINY bathroom near leaking faucet! Toilet required 3 flushes. No paper or pens in room. Tube of bad shampoo and conditioner, bar of soap provided. That's it, period. Poor lighting indoors, […] none on private patio outdoors. Hallway lighting a joke. Hidden costs excessive and not noted in any hotel advertising. $8 a day extra for sorely lacking parking places. $9 a day for Wifi in room, or you could use free in very bare-bones lobby. No bell hop or persons to help with luggage. No accommodations AT ALL for smokers. 2 of 3 ice machines were out of commission, forcing you to walk almost a block to get ice ONLY between the hours of 10am-10pm. Nothing on LARGE grassy areas. Minimal lounging by pool, no tables. CONSTANT exterior work with LOTS of noise, large equipment 9 hrs a day, even Sunday. Contractors hammering, carrying debris, materials past our patio non-stop, NO privacy. Sliding door to patio "locked" with a bar in the track, forcing you to go ALL THE WAY AROUND to building entrance in order to exit or enter your room for the day. Inconvenient exit from hotel to main roads. Lobby contained many tourist pamphlets, but hotel personnel was uninformed or unwilling to provide local information. Maid service very good & helpful. This is an older hotel that they are starting to update. Its not connected with a restaurant and they don't serve breakfast but they do have coffee in the lobby every morning. There are plenty of restaurants & shopping close by(walking distance). The staff was awesome and very helpful. its right on the beach. and the price is affordable!

I was very nervous about this hotel based on some reviews of the place. However, this trip was done on a low budget and nothing compared in price to theirs. However, my bed was comfortable and the shower had amazing hot water pressure. Who needs luxury when you are on the island of Kauai? Don't stay at your hotel all day...get out and see the beauty of the island. Every morning we started our day with a sunrise right out our front yard at the hotel, and every night upon returning to the hotel we ended the day with some chill time at the same beach.
