Fair or not, when you stay at a Hilton property you can't help but have certain expectations. This Mandalay Beach property just missed the mark for me. In general the location is beautiful... the staff was everything I had hoped... the suite was good enough... Where I started to feel underwhelmed was with the little things like the woman at the pool […] handing out towels. It felt like we were getting the third degree just to use a couple of towels. The service pool side was not at all good. We were on our chairs for about an hour before going into the pool and were never approached by a server. In the morning when we went to the breakfast there were no plates available so I couldn't tell you how the food was. Though I don't drink coffee, my fiancee was not impressed. maybe we got the last room in the hotel, since we were on the ground floor blocked by the tennis court walls from seeing anything, but this room was awful. The NOISE was incredible. Every sound in the hall echos in your room. I checked in with my mom who has mobility issues and because they were filming the lobby had to park down stairs and take a long path to the lobby. Unfamiliar with the hotel I took the luggage only to have to reverse my path repack the car, re-park to find a dark, dank, moldy smelling room. I then had to let the front desk know, be relocated, and do […] it again. Each person I contacted; gate guard, front desk (x2) were not helpful, dour, and really soured my experience. My girlfriend and I wanted to get away for the weekend and we picked a great hotel. The drive from our home in Simi Valley was about a half hour through a beautiful back country road. When we arrived the hotel was gorgeous. Parked our car in the underground parking and walked our bikes right into our ocean view room. The room was very nice with 2 bathrooms […] a comfortable living room and nice bedroom. The outside walked right outside to a grassy area where we sat in the afternoon and had some drinks and peolple watched. At night we went out to dinner at a nice restaurant down at the marina and then went in 1 of 2 rock jacuzzi's. The next morning we road bike back to the marina and had bloody mary's at the Outlook restaurant. We have stayed at other places close by, but this by far was the best and we will be back soon! I think next time we will stay upstairs as the balcony is more private and I think you have a better view of the ocean. Read more

the hotel location is great next to beach. also the hotel property is very beautiful have three swim pools and lots of waterfalls. we were there during the week and there were a lot of renovation and sound going on, but for those coming during summer it will be great. they charge $15 a day for parking and check out is at 11 am

The Mandalay Beach hotel at Oxnard was incredibly disappointing. We have stayed there in years past, but it has been several years since our previous stay. The hotel is quite nice, but could definitely do with updating, but the real issue was service. Apathetic at best, nobody seemed to care about the guests experience. A few examples. I called down […] at 10:30pm for some pillows...four times and always went to voicemail so I called the front desk..also voicemail. Each morning there was a lack of basics at the buffet. No coffee, toast, oatmeal, milk. When I asked the staff they would say 'It's coming', but it never did..other guests were grumbling too. The main Manager at the front desk was unhelpful and brusque. There was no internet connection in the rooms, not adequate supplies if any of coffee, sugar etc, but the main complaint truly was that no one seemed to care. Booked a second floor room with ocean view, and received first floor room with sand-dune view instead. EXTREMELY noisy. Hallways were all hard surface, which served as an echo chamber for every group who passed down the hall. Not the restful experience we had hoped for!

The hotel provided fairly convenient access to the Ventura Harbor which was ~10 minutes drive north. The room was comfortable and clean although a bit dated. Unfortunately, on two days, the walk-way to our room had dishes and some trash strewn about for most of the day. I suspect birds had made a mess of the dishes left out by other guests who had recieved […] room-service the night before. Speaking of service: A new restaruant/breakfast area was under construction during our visit but should be open by May '13. It looks like it will be nice. The provided breakfast was complete; providing an asortment of continental fare but also hot food from the grill ie. omlets, sausage etc.. However, the hours of operation were rather short. On our leasurely day, they were clearing out the breakfast area before 9am. On one of our rushed/early days we found ourselves in line with >20 other guests waiting for the doors to open. A 6am to 10am schedule would be rather more convenient for most patrons. To finish on a positive note; the family spent several hours in the pool and hot tub and had a great time. It was a beautiful resort. The hotel staff was helpful but calling to them usually meant being placed on hold for long periods of time. The breakfast was wonderful but the coffee in the room was awful and there is no coffee available until the restaurant opens (7:30 Saturday), none available in the lobby. There were a lot of children running and screaming […] down the halls at all hours and the walls didn't seem to buffer out any of the noise. The hot tub was quite nice but there were children jumping and doing cannon balls into it so it was not very peaceful. The rooms were very nice and the balconey overlooking the ocean was dreamy. The only minus on the room would be the very low quality towels, I use this quality to bathe my dog and even he thinks they are rough. Read more

Bad cleaning, even after asking for new houskeeping. Not very serviceminded front desk. They appeared a bit uniteressted, really disappointing for a luxory hotel! Not good value for your money. An upside though was the breakfast and the staff in the breakfastroom. Friendly and serviceminded, great omelettes made by the chef by order:-)

The location is removed from city traffic but many amenities are nearby such as restaurant, grocery, etc. The beach is beautiful, service was fantastic, food was great, pool was beautiful and warm despite the cool weather. Very nice hotel and fantastic location. Pleased with the room and most of the hotel amenities. The only downside was the closet door was off of its track and housekeeping/maintenance never came to fix it despite the fact I called and left a message. Other than that, I would stay here again for the proximity to the beach.

Being a few steps from the beach is what distinguishes this resort. My wife and I enjoyed taking long walks on a beautiful stretch of beach. Also, it was great being so close to the where boats leave for whale watching and trips to the Channel Islands (Oxnard and Ventura harbors). Finally, the hot breakfast buffet was a real plus. My stay was short, but very sweet! Though there for just one night, I enjoyed the beautiful central plaza of the hotel, with multiple waterfalls, a relaxed hosted cocktail hour, gorgeous sunset, fabulous breakfast, a room that was elegant and comfortable, and a brisk invigorating walk along the ocean on the morning of departuire.

Appreciated the quick change of a room when we found out the heat was not working on a chilly evening. A long line for the breakfast so get there early to get your omelet. Rooms were spacious but the furniture appeard in need of upgrading.

We paid top dollar for 1 night plus deluxe buffet breakfast on a Thursday. We felt the location merited the price. The hotel and grounds are very nice, but the clientele left a lot to be desired. The buffet was a mad scramble for food with sloppily attired guests in this upscale hotel. This place was cold, corporate and impersonal. There were long, confusing,and noisy corridors that my parents had difficulty negotiating. They didn't say a word about the $15 they tacked on to the bill for parking. The only thing redeeming was that it is on the beach. I would never stay here again; there are better places that cost much less.

We have been to the hotel in Oxnard 3 years in a row because you CANNOT beat the location - only suites with oceanfront rooms in southern CAL. Each and every year the staff has met our every request with a timely, efficient, smiling response. The food at Capistrano's is simply deeeliciious, served hot to the room or cool by poolside. I especially love […] the fresh fruit and silver strand mussels over linguini! I am a doctor, so cleanliness is super important - these people have it down! We even procured 3 full sets of new towels (delivered warm and to the door within minutes) because we kept using that big bathtub to soak off the saltwater after wading ; and let Calgon take us away.. We have taken about 100 pictures of various alcoves, hot pools, and of course the BEACH. I grew up in California (in Camarillo) before the condos and hotel industry hit the Oxnard beaches. This is soooo great to come "home" and see my family in an excellent, scenic accommodation each year. I have been to this resort for Thanksgiving about 4 times over past 12 years, so while I rate it 3 stars, I do keep coming back....but they are pushing their luck. They have spent some money to upgrade the rooms, like shower/bath area, but sofa and bed are somewhat soft and a little worn...just ok.. Since we did not want maid service until we had […] left for our day trip around noon, they skipped over our room completely. We got stuck with same towels, which when unexpected, can be a problem. Maid service tip = $0 The Thanksgiving buffet is a great value. Full buffet wiht turkey, ham, prime rib and lamb, as well as some seafood, salads and desserts, all for $39.95 per adult. Other places in SoCal can run you double that price and I suppose the price vs. quality value is what keeps me coming back, plus the location on the beach is fabulous. The other huge hit, particularly for families is the breakfast buffet, included in room price. You can get tasty made to order omelettes, or just scramble eggs with sasuage, bacon and pancakes, along with fruit and cereal. Saves you at least $7.50/person/day and you can get stuffed!! With so many people there for the holidays, they ran out of coffee both days I was there, by about 9 a.m., so better to get their by 8:30! Would recommend at least a room with partial ocean view. Upgrades to sofas, beds and more flexible maid service gets them 4 stars! Read more
