"Let's rethink this hotel's rating b/c it's definitely not a 4 star!"
I was blown away by the service at this hotel, but not in a good way. This hotel is listed as a 4 star but the service and "hospitality" that i received make this at the most a solid 2 star. The front desk refused to bring my lost luggage (1 bag) that was delivered in the middle of the night up to my room. The front desk had no stamp for mailing a letter […] and was unable to provide me with information as to where the nearest place was i could purchase one. These concerns were politely brought up to hotel management who offered (i did not ask for anything) to comp my entire stay for 50% off but when the bill came, they comped 1 night of the entire stay 50% off. With so many options of places to stay in NYC at comparable rates, i definitely could not recommend this hotel in good conscious. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Much too costly for what you get"
The doormen and front desk staff were all great. However, a deluxe queen room is the size of a bathroom. For 350 a night I would have been better served in a Hampton Inn. There was one tiny bar of soap and the towels were not replaced daily. Not to mention the hot water was broken for several hours. I would not recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Elevator broken. No hot water. And this hotel is tattered...needs paint. It needs to be freshened up. My Tuesday night stay I believe was about $400----no hot water. I know things happen but I believe you need to reinvest in the general upkeep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful Hotel 100% Satisfied Incredible Location"
Selected because of its proximity to Central Park & Lincoln Center. The hotel was an excellent choice. The staff is friendly, helpful and responsive. The hair dryer broke and they replaced it immediately. Very nice shower--plenty of hot water and large thick towels. Quiet--no noise from other rooms. Good control over air/heat. Comfortable mattress, […] good quality sheets, pillows. CLEAN. We had an 8 hour delay in arriving and must have looked extremely tired, pathetic. Ricky upgraded us the next day. Offered us breakfast, but we had other plans. The rooftop nightclub was popular with the younger crowd (not for us). If you are attending Lincoln Center, this hotel CAN'T be beat. Can see the Lincoln Center from the room and can almost hear the overture from the room. Subway is across the street. Very helpful Polish descent worker at the front desk. Some complain about room size. This is Manhattan not Kansas, Dorothy! Room layout was efficient. Room safe, fridge, closet. Lighting was good. Sure you pay extra for water, coffee. Go to the drugstore around the corner or Starbucks. Why pay more if you're not using it? The only negative was the elevators. Usually one of four were out during our stay. But it is a smaller scale hotel and didn't have to wait long--unlike the slow, crowded elevators when we stayed at the Hudson Hotel last year. Nice small park across from the lobby. Overall, an excellent choice, great value, and I look forward to staying again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was very hospitable and kind. The bar and lobby area was awesome. The elevators were a nightmare. The wait was impossibly long for an elevator and as a result, I had to carry my heavy luggage up and down several flights of stairs. The A/C didn't work consistently, which resulted in many calls to have maintenance take a look. For a one night […] stay that was a total hassle. As a result, I would not return to or recommend this hotel to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, but needs upgrades"
The great service and location helped us to overlook those items needing improvement. Main complaints, not all of the elevators were working so you had to wait a long time for one and when it finally came, you had to squeeze in to an already packed elevator. Next, not sure if all rooms are the same, but our shower only had half a shower door. The restroom […] needed a deep cleaning and the door was very worn. We didn't complain because the service made up for it. We were greeted warmly, and the bell men were nice and helpful! Also, the hotel is in a great spot, it is near Central Park, has great restaurants and places to shop nearby, and is across the street from Lincoln center. We might actually give them another try on our next visit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Love the location. The room was quiet. The bathroom shower was very difficult to use with the overhead shower dripping while using the personal shower. Perhaps a different personal shower head would improve the quality of the shower experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"For the middle class nyc vacationer"
I just wasn't comfortable enough in this place to be happy. The room was the size of a broom closet and looked into somebody else's window. Did I mention the room was $300 a night? The sheets were not clean. And the blinds to my window broke so the blinds were down the whole time. This is one of those places that you get an amazing location and a subpar […] room. "We would stay here again"
The hotel is located right across from the Lincoln Center & close to Central Park. The staff was courteous & helpful. The lobby is beautiful & there are many restaurants nearby. The rooms are small by hotel standards (but comfortable), & the price was very reasonable for a decent New York hotel. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good but not great"
Room/hotel is nicely decorated. Room small but well-arranged and lighting was adequate The shower controls were broken but usable. Bed could use a new mattress. The elevators were a constant bother because there was often only one of the four in service. You cant beat the location. Overall, comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is in great location but when I got up in middle of the night there were small bugs in bathroom that went under molding. Needs updating and cleaning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but small."
The location was great but the Superior King room was way to small for my husband and I. The bathroom was so tiny and the ironing board couldn't be used as there was no place to put it. If we stayed there again it would only be if a bigger room was available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good place to stay"
This was a good place to stay since it was 2 blocks from central park and across the street from the Lincoln center but the noise surrounding the building was loud and bustling. "Wonderful...except the elevators!"
We have stayed at this hotel many times and from the moment you arrive you are greeted by such nice personal service. We had a suite and it was great. Plenty of room, very clean. "Empire Hotel New York"
The location is fabulous, particularly if you want to explore Central Park - Columbus Circle is great too. DON'T book a standard room - a closet is bigger to sleep in. Seriously the bathroom was perhaps the size of a linen closet in a very small apartment. Pay the extra for a King Superior room. The bathroom wasn't a whole lot bigger, but the rest of […] the room certainly was! The hotel is old and dated. They have renovated, apparently, but there is only so much you can do when a building is that old. The a/c and heating units are the old rectangular ones under the window. The staff were delightful and very helpful and accommodating. They couldn't have been nicer. Would I stay there again when there are tons of other options in NY? Probably not. It is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel - 3 at best with a 4 star price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not what it used to be..."
Have stayed at the Empire Hotel for a number of years when traveling to NYC. While I used to be really happy with the Empire, it has really gone downhill- to the point now where I am going to find other hotels to stay. The location remains great for access to Central Park, but the lackluster hotel property doesn't make up for it. The elevators are marginally […] working- plan an extra 10-15 minutes when trying to leave to hotel just to wait for an elevator, only to find it crammed with tourists trying to get out themselves. The rooms are small, and expected for NYC, but the bathrooms are ridiculous and are getting trashed by the shower design that spills all of the water from the shower on to the floor. It seems like they used to have doors and then they took them out, so expect to use multiple towels for just wiping up the floor. This might still be a good hotel for a weekend get away, going to shows or hitting the nightclub upstairs, but if you are a business traveler, forget it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
In New York location is very important. This hotel is close to several subway lines, Central Park, and Lincoln center. Overall the hotel was nice. The elevators were a bit busy and required a little wait. As you'd expect for NYC, the room was small but it was livable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the Empire and staff are all great except the men who were the guards for the bar upstairs were very rude to women especially if the women were single they lied about the line, lied about if you are a guest and said you have to wait in line. over all once you got upstairs but the guards was a "boys club" and they insulted customers. unless you were […] with a man you were made to wait Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Location, location, location"
If you're looking to check out the upper westside of Manhattan, the Empire Hotel could not be in a better location. We parked in the Lincoln Center parking (across the street), had dinner at Rosa Mexicana (around the corner and down about 100 feet), had breakfast at The Smith (across the street) and walked up to the Museum of Natural History just to […] get some exercise. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable and thankfully quiet with a very nice rooftop space. My only complaint was the price gauging on a bottle of water - $7.50 for 8 ounces! "Mediocre stay with a great location"
The location is great but I will not stay there again. The room is shabby. Our first room was on the 11th floor and we could not sleep due to the noise from the trendy club on the 12th floor. We asked to be moved and were told there were no available rooms. They did move us the next day. Also, they charge $3 per cup for coffee in the room. Stayed here 1 night with my boyfriend. We are from the area but spent the money so we could enjoy the rooftop (it WAS my favorite) without having to worry about cabs, trains etc. I check in and find out its closed for a wedding. They said they didn’t disclose that because the rooftop doesn’t coordinate with the hotel. Weddings are booked months in advance, […] there’s no way they didn’t know. The people at the front desk are not friendly or accommodating. Then we get back from dinner and the room smells musky and AC isn’t working. We call the front desk and they send someone to check it out, we see him remove the filter that is so disgusting, completely black. He replaced the filter and then it worked fine. 2 of the elevators were down so there was always a line to get on the elevator. Just the whole set up was unorganized, no communication and the employees had no passion for the hotel or for the guests. Unless you are spending money to have a wedding there etc. they don’t care about you, we even told them we planned on having friends meet us at the roof and buy a table, there attitude was “oh well.” When we checked out the front desk didn’t even ask if we enjoyed our stay or apologize for the AC issue. I will never stay here again it should be a 2star hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I did not like the hotel at all. My guest room and the property in general were dark and antiquated. The hotel clerk was rude to me when he checked me in and subsequently put me in a tiny room directly across the hallway from the elevator that faced a wall. I stayed for a few hours and left, there was no way I would ever spend the night there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Lincoln Center"
The hotel room was small, but I guess average by NY standards. No tub, only shower. I had a cold shower 2 of the 6 days. No ice/vending on the floors - have to go down to bar to get ice every night. They charge for EVERYTHING! I was so happy when we first arrived as they had a Keurig in the room - but then saw the sign, it was $3 for a k-cup of coffee […] in your room!!! Wi-Fi was out for a night and I was told they have nothing to do with the wi-fi and no control over it, yet they are the one's who charge for it??? Manager was supposed to call me but never received his/her call. On the plus side, the location was perfect for us as we were moving our daughter into The Juilliard School - there is not a hotel closer so the convenience of this outweighed all the negatives...for us. "A Hotel lacking in amenities and common courtesies"
Empire Hotel has to be one of the most penny-pinching places in New York City. It was ridiculous to have to pay not only for wi-fi during our stay, but even the coffee in the room cost $3 a cup for a Keurig cup. My advice? Though the lobby decor leans towards dictator chic, and the roof-top pool is less than Olympic size, and the last room we had was also rather petite, there really is no better hotel on the Upper West Side. We stayed one night at this hotel. Over experience was very disappointing. Room was very small and dark, felt like I was in a cave. “The spa-inspired bathroom featuring a tropical rain showerhead” – is a joke, the “tropical rain showerhead, did not work. We checked in at 2 (the allowed us an early check-in) we went up checked the pool area, was told that it would be open till 9pm. Went out came back around 7. Pool area was closed. Called the reception, was told that they closed the pool area because the guest were uncomfortable, because it was too cold. I can understand the pool/ lounge area being closed because of bad weather, but on the 11 or 10th floor the rooftop lounge was open (this was open to the public) We decided to give it a try but almost every table was reserved. "One night stay"
This hotel is probably not worth the amount you pay per night. By far the nicest aspect was the rooftop lounge/pool. Our room was alright but not very clean. We had a view of the air conditioning system. There was still hair in the shower drain and the sink in the bathroom didn't drain well. The room needed minor updates since some things look like […] it had fallen apart. Plus, it's really annoying to see every little thing in your room with a price tag on it. A bottle of water cost $7.50...if you went down to Duane Reade next door and got the same bottle of water, it cost $2.00. I'd rather see the room void of snacks and drinks than see all of those with prices that are triple what they cost in the store below your feet. All that being said, this hotel was booked last minute after we had to change plans due to the amount of people with us. I won't stay here again, but I may come back to party in the rooftop to get that view. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Would not reccommend"
Our stay at the Empire Hotel was terrible. This hotel advertises a rooftop terrace, which was a big factor when deciding on hotels. Don't expect to see much of the night skies of the city. They close it down at 9:00pm. Really? In NYC? Big disappointment. I had to call for housekeeping at 11 pm in order to get top sheets for our beds. There is a comforter […] and a bottom sheet that's it. Typically hotels have a bottom sheet, top sheet, light blanket and duvet. This to me was a turn off to say the least. I also addressed to the man who brought our linen; who by the way was not from housekeeping, that our shower was also leaking and it was turned off. He attempted to turn it off and stated he would let someone know about it. I mentioned I would like to have a manager aware of our concerns. We slept with the bathroom door closed because the leaking in the shower was so loud. At 1:15 AM there was a knock at the door. They wanted to fix the leak! We are sleeping and you just woke us up! The next morning we attempted to get a few things from the picked over continental breakfast. We were informed as we were putting bagels in the toaster and pouring coffee that there is a $15 charge per person. Are you kidding me? We promptly put it back. We proceeded back to our rooms to gather our stuff and check out. I addressed my concerns at the desk while checking out. Again I told them I would like to speak with manager. They took my email down and have not heard from them since. So you ask how this visit was? I would never reccommend it. For the cost, definitely not. Btw we went to Starbucks when we left which was around the corner and spent $20 for 3 people and had great coffee and breakfast sandwiches! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
