We were not very impressed with this hotel. It was in a good location, but the building was very old and the walls and windows were paper thin. It is what you would expect for a run down 2 star. The breakfast in the morning was also not very good, but it was food. I will not stay there again.

Seagulls flying by and yelping woke me up at 4am every morning so earplugs may have been a good idea. We were able to manage well without a car, but did rent a car one day to drive up the west coast. The breakfast was awesome! Plus, I loved having the choice of whole grains. Overall, I thought the price was too high for what we got, but that is the trend in Victoria. when I made the reservations the only concern I had was the location and I can proudly say that my decision hasn't went wrong. The front desk people were very helpful with their service, no matter it be the checking in, borrowing umrellas, helping us with attractions. Good people, Great location = makes perfect stay

I took my Mom to Victoria and we were very impressed with the service at the Dalton. The first night, our room was above the street and there was loud music/yelling until 2:30 AM. We let the front desk know, and we were upgraded to a *QUIET* room (the nicest/largest on the floor) during peak season. Delightful. We will return!

After a lot of online searching, we booked the Dalton for our three-night stay primarily due to a good price. We were very pleased. We were in one of the less expensive rooms, so it was not deluxe, but it was quite serviceable for our family of four. While we had booked a room with two queen beds, we were "upgraded" to a room with a queen and a queen […] sofa bed in a separate room. I was not sure how much of an upgrade this would be, but my kids said the sofa bed was very comfortable with a good mattress. We definitely appreciated the extra space. The day that we arrived, Victoria temperatures were unusually warm and we slept with the windows open and the ceiling fans on. It was a Saturday night, and we were awakened by street noise around the time the bars closed. I wouldn't say it was a bad area, but it was Saturday night and Victoria is a bit of a weekend party-town (more than we recalled from prior trips but not everyone comes for gardens and high tea.). Subsequent nights were more peaceful. Breakfast is nothing special, but it's included and not a bad benefit. Staff were helpful with directions and the few questions we had. We enjoyed the character of an older building. We came without a car, so parking was not an issue for us. We found the hotel a reasonable 10-15 minute walk from the ferry terminal with rolling luggage and two pre-teen kids. The Dalton was a great value and convenient to everything we wanted in Victoria. The Dalton was in a great location. It's very walkable to everything (which was helpful since we didn't have a car). The host was very helpful and gave us great directions and information. My biggest complaint about this hotel was the fact that we had red small bugs present on the bed, even though a new room was offered, i feel like bugs should be removed before allowing a customer into a room. This hotel has seen better days (ages ago). The only good thing was the guy at the front desk, he had a good personality. Other than that, it was pretty awful, the decor (or lack of), the remote didn't work, & the view was of a wall across. There's a better place for the same price called Helm's Inn - you get a lot more for your money.

We got a great deal on the hotel room from hotels.com and decided to be frugal on this trip, despite the reviews for the hotel suggesting we splurge and get one of the upgraded rooms. The hotel staff were friendly, and the complimentary breakfast was good. The hotel is old, and in desperate need of updating. The hotel room was small, dark, and run down, […] but still clean and tidy. We had many teenagers on our floor with us running between rooms and through the halls all through the night for the entire weekend and the noise was LOUD. We were in town for the Swiftsure Sailing Regatta, and the hotel was a 10 minute walk to the Inner Harbor and centrally located. I don't think I would stay there again, despite all the positives. We've stayed at the Dalton over Thanksgiving weekend for the past 5 years and love it. It's a great location and a great value. Rooms are small but adequate and nicely furnished. We'll keep coming back. If the room had an arm chair it would then be perfect for us.

Good service. Very old hotel. No AC/Heater in room, only a ceiling fan. No vent/fan in bathroom, no hair dryer, so entire room very humid after two showers. Paper thin walls meant we heard neighbors yakking it up into wee morning hours. Could hear street noise, cars, horns and morning street cleaners all night long--very bad. I stayed at the hotel for over 2 weeks. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was conveniently located near to where I was working. The condition of the Dalton leaves a lot to be desired. It's very run down, with noticeable cracks in the tiles, peeling wallpaper, dirty bathtubs, etc... The smoke alarm goes off when you take a hot shower! I tried […] to change rooms thinking the other rooms had to be in better shape, but looked at 2 other rooms that were in the exact same poor condition. The walls are quite thin and everything is really creaky, so expect to hear your neighbors. I recommend requesting a room that faces the back for a longer stay (less street noise). There was garbage in the hallway trash bin collecting for several days at a time and it seemed the housekeeping staff just came in to make the bed & fold towels, but not actually clean the room. It looked like some of the other floors in the hotel had been more recently renovated and it was also very crowded. Hopefully people are getting really good rates to stay here (or had much nicer rooms than I did) or else it isn't worth it. Read more

It was a small, quaint hotel right smack in the middle of downtown. The place is a little run-down, the elevator runs extremely slow, and there is no guest computer available; but, for how little I paid per night it was a good clean room.

Service was great, free continental breakfast was good. The location is great for walking all over Victoria. The exterior noise that was mentioned in some reviews did not bother me, but the noise transfer from other rooms was bothersome. I would not stay again due to the noise.

Our room was disgusting! Carpets were so dirty that I wouldn't remove my shoes. I am 5'7 and the shower head was was low that I had to do a half squat to get under the water. Holes in the base boards in the bathroom. The pictures online looked beautiful but this hotel is no where close to the images that are posted.
