MY HUSBAND AND I, CELEBRATED OUR 21 YEAR ANNIVERSARY. IT MADE FOR A WONDERFUL GETAWAY!Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel smells old. I was guaranteed king bed through expedia. Was checked into a room with two beds. Had to room move at midnight. Housekeeping kept banging on the door even though I had the privacy sign. Knocking started at 8am and kept going even though I kept mentioning that I wasn't checking out until noon. Overall poor experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was awesome. The staff was great took care of my every need...Genuine Expedia guest review
The A/C was very weak and the blackout curtains did not hang low enough. I also had a loud conference right across the hall. Great location though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice size room. Enjoyed the power room separate from the bathroom. The kitchen us a huge plus. The restaurant us brand new.Genuine Expedia guest review

"an overnight stay"
All was fine, with the exception that there was no room service nor restaurant facilities open at the time I was there.Genuine Expedia guest review
This place is a refurbished apartment building. They've done a good to make it a very pleasant stay, which for me was 4 days. Large bedroom with larger than expected kitchen and a modest size bathroom attached to a vanity room and all for a great price. Large refrigerator that you can stock up with food from Whole Foods (expensive) just a short walk […] away. Hotel staff will provide clean dinner ware each day so no need to wash. Comfortable beds. Was concerned that pillows were going to be stiff but they were fine. I got around DC by bike and metro but the mall is just a short walk. The only negatives I have is that twice I found a long hair in the bathroom floor towel and restaurants are a little out of the way. Aside from this, the place was plenty clean, had friendly staff, and I ate well. I really liked this place and would stay again. If you can live without your typical hotel breakfast and fresh coffee table and don't mind stocking up a refrigerator with your favorite foods then this place could work for a lone traveler to a small family. I was impressed by the hotel, it's just blocks away from the Lincoln/vietnam memorials, right on GWU campus, lots of restaurants nearby, close to the Metro station. Room was clean, spacious, comfortable. Kitchenette with refrigerator, dishes, everything you need. And free wifi. I will stay here again on my next trip to DC. It has a gym and a restaurant […] but I never checked them out so I cant comment on them. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quick but nice stay"
The hotel staff was very friendly. Location was just north of the Lincoln Memorial. The hotel was a bit dated. The bedding was new but the bathroom was clean but old. Our room had a full kitchen which was not used but nice to have.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel across street from State Dep't"
Marvelous location for those with business with State Dep't. Very agreeable staff at all levels. All the porters (cannot think of a more modern title) check-in had sincere smiles, and intiiated help without being asked and never gave an inkling for a tip! Response for engineer to fix AirCon fast and professional; provide paper for printer in biz center […] super response. AirCon in our group's rooms was very good when temps and humidity outside were pushing 90 F degrees Two modern computers for guest use very handy for getting boarding passes printed out, etc. Some of the furnishings in some rooms are clearly not yet super easy for the digerati (sp?) traveler as desk tops and table lamps had no 120V AC receptacles. "It was just OK"
Considering that the other hotels in the neighborhood were $50 more a night, this was decent. I did have a few problems. The first was after that long walk to the other building, the key didn't work. We were so angry becuase we already did a six hour drive to get there. Then we get in the room and there was no kitchen. I picked the hotel bc there was […] a kitchen. When we asked to change rooms they were very nice about that. We get to a new room and it was great, except that the towel had a public hair stuck to it and the bathroom was soooo tiny. Then the valet service would take forever when bringing out their car. We got there on a Friday and put a penny on top of the painting and when we left Monday there it still stayed! The people that worked there was so nice and courteous. I didn't feel like they were trying to help up when we wanted recommendations but there was Ohm who was really sweet and a hispanic lady that seemed to be the manager who was so fun and helpful. i would stay there again just for the kitchen (outdated and not cute) and the location. you could walk to everything. just bring sneakers! "Location is great"
We had a suite and it was roomy. Easy walking to the sites. Restaurants nearby, including Starbucks and Whole Foods. We recommend this hotel. Ask for a room in the remodeled area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel for Family"
It was second time to stay this hotel. Because there is a kitchen in all rooms. An additional bed was not provided even details say it does and requested in advance. Therefore, i had to share one bed with my son. Other than that, this is the best hotel for sightseeing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed 2 nights in a suite with our son and 2 grandchildren. That worked well. Loved the location, which was in easy walking distance to many attractions. The lobby was elegant and clean. Desk staff friendly. We will return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Wonderful place to stay!!! Beautiful room that had just been remodeled. Great air condition. The location was really well located and we were able to get to two different metro stations in just a few minutes.Genuine Expedia guest review
"stop over on the way to Florida"
The hotel was very nice. The only problems I can say I had is with parking. If you are going for the weekend and do not mind walking you should park in the first spot you find and leave your car. If you move you may not have a spot to park in, and the "optional" valet parking will no longer be optional. This is what happened to me, i asked for walking […] directions to the Smithsonian and was given the amount of time it would take to get there and then told that it was free street parking. air conditioning did not stay on. I had to get up hourly through the night to turn it back on. There were pictures drawn on the mirror that showed up in the steam after a shower: shows that mirror was not cleaned. I checked in at about 8 pm Friday and had meetings until 5 on Saturday but I had to get my car out of valet parking by 2 or be charged another […] $37 for parking. It would have been $74 for parking for less than 24 hours. The daily rate was bad enough without being charged twice! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Foggy Bottom hotel"
I've stayed at the excellent State Plaza many times before due to its proximity to the National Mall and the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. The beds are comfy, the hotel and rooms are clean, customer service polite & prompt, and the small kitchen always appreciated. I look forward to staying at the State Plaza again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Suited our needs"
I booked the State Plaza because of the full kitchen it provided (note, cooktop, no oven.) Our family has several food allergies so eating out is difficult. While basic and dated the kitchen suited our needs. There is a Whole Foods about 4 blocks from the hotel making shopping and meals convenient. We stayed in room 735 in the North Tower. The room […] has been updated and was clean and very spacious. We had a living room and dining area, separate galley kitchen, bath and separate bedroom. My only complaint was the smell of Indian food hit us as soon as we entered the room. We tried fabreeze to no avail but by the 3rd day the smell was gone so maybe it was one of the other guests cooking. The service was excellent. All employees were polite, accommodating and attentive. The location is good, 4 blocks to shops and restaurants in Foggy Bottom, GW university is virtually around the corner. It's a little less than a mile walk to the Lincoln Memorial and further to the museums. The hotel decor is a bit dated but they are working on renovating. The place is very clean. The service is excellent. I would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great value in a great location"
This hotel is much less expensive than other nice hotels in the George Washington University area. The rooms are simple, but large (at least, ours was). It is located right on the GW campus, and within walking distance of the White House, the National Mall, and other prominent sites. It is a bargain.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great DC Location - Overall good value"
Overall very nice. Hotel food was much better than average and staff (front desk, housekeeping, restaurant) was helpful and courteous. Room was well appointed. Only negative - and it is a big one in 90+ degree DC heat/humidity - was the air conditioner. It did not pull the moisture out of the air and was inadequate to keep up with the afternoon sun […] beating on the wall/glass of my room (even though I kept it running full blast through the night.) I would gladly stay again but would do my best to make sure AC is ample for DC heat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Diamond in the Rough"
My family is accustomed to staying at 4.5-5 star hotels, but I had fond memories of the State Plaza Hotel from a stay 25 years ago, when money a lot was tighter. It was great! We stayed in a one bedroom suite with full kitchen. The room was huge and closet space gigantic. We were moving my son into his apartment and stayed for 3 weeks. We could not […] have stayed at a better place. The furnishings are simple and showed some wear, but for a family, the price, size, and full kitchen trumps all. NOT a 2 star, it is easily a 3 star hotel. Staff was helpful and friendly. Easy to find free street parking on near by G and F Streets. Because of this recurrent outstanding experience, we will be staying there in the future! Perfect for families and George Washington Freshman Parents on dorm move in day. "Great location and with a kitchen...perfect"
This was a perfect hotel for my granddaughter and me: short walk to the monuments in one direction and restaurants, metro, buses in the opposite direction. Wonderful staff, VERY comfy bed, and with a frig and microwave we could (if we chose) have meals in the room. Price was very reasonable, room was large, and we felt safe. I will always stay here […] when we visit DC. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Attached kitchen and nearby CVS with food items"
We were satisfied with our stay. The staff was very friendly, the room was clean and the kitchen was very convenient for preparing breakfast before heading out for the day (the nearby CVS sells fruit, yogurt, granola and some other basic foods). The artwork (classic prints of flowers probably obtained from the Smithsonian) on the walls was nice. The […] hotel is about 5 blocks from the metro which was more than I would have liked but exercise is good. The walk to the metro takes you by George Washington University. Our view was nothing special (the backs of adjqcent buildings) and the plumbing had some issues (the toilet had to be jiggled to stop running and the shower knob had a zone (air bubbles?) that rattled the woodwork). Still, overall it was clean, reasonably priced, quiet and pleasant. The surrounding area seemed safe. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"We loved our room."
The room was way more than we anticipated. The kitchen was great, we used it every day. They even left a bag of ice and a bottle of water. Lots of room even enough for 3 people, as there was a hide-a-bed in the living room. Doors to master closed off the area for privacy if you had three people staying. Two big tvs, we didn't watch but they had many […] good channels. The hotel was in a close proximity to the Whole Foods grocery store and is open til 11 pm. The cleaning staff always was willing to provide anything extra we needed, like coffee or towels. They don't have much in way of kitchen towels and could use a roll of paper towels in the kitchen. Our room did have a couple of problems with the air conditioning but it wasn't too bad. Also there was a problem with the cooktop, it was clicking and we had to unplug it. Otherwise I would have given it an excellent rating. Will definitely stay there again. We attended an event at the DAR and walked every day in the morning and evening and never felt concerned. It is a great place to stay!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Very clean hotel with polite and helpful staff. The room had an efficiency kitchen which was a nice surprise. The only negative I have is the gym being in a different tower than the building I was in and the slightly outdated kitchen. Other than that I would recommend this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff is very accommodating. Little known Bistro at venue is very good with excellent service and moderate pricing. Walk to most attractions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location for everything we wanted to do!"
If we ever go back to DC, we'll stay there again. It met almost all of our needs and was half the price of other hotels we considered. The staff was great, especially the evening crew. They always went out of their way to help us!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was great. No problems during stay. I reserved a king and they fave it away to someone else. Tried to give me an upgraded room with a queen bed instead. Told them I wasn't interested in the size of the room, only the size of the bed. They did give me an ipgraded room with a king at the time but since we only stayed one night we didn't need all […] that space and didn't use it. Big kitchen and living room. Decent sized kitchen too. Everything was very dated but was clean and usable. Very short walk to Constitution Ave and the Mall. Safe location. The only thing I would have liked would have been easier access to an electric socket near the bedside table. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Two separate building with two front desks"
The hotel was nice, although it has two separate buildings with two separate front desks. Of course I checked into the one that was farther away from my room. Its connected through an underground garage. It wasn't a big deal, just be prepared to walk a bit if your room is in the other building. Hotel staff was great, valet parking was convenient. We […] walked all around the city, pretty easy from the hotel to get around. We stayed in a new room, had a small kitchen, fridge, etc. Over all I would stay there again. "Clean hotel close to National Mall."
I have high standard and from my perspective overall the room was clean. Pros - very comfortable bed, sheets and pillows very comfy and clean; room is little bigger; AC cools really well and not that noisy; full size fridge; powder room; complimentary water every day; 2 blocks from National Mall Cons - dirty carpet, definitely could use shampoo; kitchen […] cabinets sticky; really bad water pressure, plus you get hot, cold, hot, cold showers; TV picture is so poor, not worth to watch it, but we were not there to watch TV; outdated kitchen and bathroom, everything seemed to have an inch of paint on it. "Great Stay for 4th of July Weekend"
Great hotel to stay at for the 4th of July. All sites close within walking distance and the room was very comfortable except for the pillows. Too soft!! Conciege was helpful and the room even had a kitchenette which was a nice surprise. I would def stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Second time staying at the State Plaza. This hotel offers a great location to the National Mall, close walking distance to the Foggy Bottom Metro station, and a unique setting at the south end of GW. I highly recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The State Plaza Hotel was perfect for our trip during the July 4 holiday. It is located close to Reagan airport ($14 cab ride, $3.50 metro ticket) and is about a 10 minute walk to the National Mall. While the decor of the hotel is in dire need of updating, the rooms are comfortable and represent a refined sense of stay. The shower is a real shower […] and tub, not plastic boxes with very low water pressure like you find in large chain hotels (Holiday Inn). The amenities are good, too (real hair dryer, iron, bath and body works products). All in all, don't let the early colonial (ie, grandma's house) decor keep you from staying here, it's great.
