"Best place in Washington DC just day!"
We were amazed at what a wonderful hotel this was for the price. Staff was friendly everything was clean. Not everyone uses the kitchen, so all we had to do was ask for what we want. And they did the dishes! I have already recommended this hotel to others. Easy walking distance to all you want to see in Washington DC and fabulous restaurants. I wouldn't […] stay anywhere else! "Nice place to stay"
The only negative was parking. All of DC is pretty much a cluster in terms of parking. We arrived earlier than expected and no parking was available at the hotel. Had to go a couple blocks away to find parking. Once parking was available it seemed pretty pricey compared to other places we parked in DC. With tax & tip about $50 for one day, that includes […] in & out with tip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Looking for a reasonably priced hotel close to the mall & museums? The State Plaza is an excellent choice. The beds were comfortable & the rooms clean. Small kitchenette was an unexpected conveniece, just wished there was a microwave. Only issue we had was the lack of eating establishments close by except the hotel bistro. Lots of wonderful restaurants […] up towards the Foggy Bottom metro station. There is a CVS right next door for treats & anything you may have forgotten, very convenient. "College Tour of GW"
The kitchenette was outstanding, the bathroom was small, but the additional powder area kept the area from being cramped. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, the hallways quiet and the staff was knowledgable and very pleasant. Close to Metro, easy walking to all the spots we wanted to go. Plan to stay, especially if you have several days.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Convenient location and friendly staff. Comfortable rooms but bathrooms need updating.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very Close to GWU and GSA Headquarters"
Hotel is conveniently located, clean, and comfortable. The building and rooms are a bit outdated. The onsite restaurant is mediocre.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room we had was old and it took us a while to figure out the a.c. on the outdated equipment. The lobby does not have an elevator, so you have to hump you luggage up or down half a flight of stairs. The breakfast was terrible and to expensive for what you get. Most of the tables had dirty dishes, we had to wait 15 minutes while they made coffee. […] The waiter filled the coffee until it overflowed. He brought two new cups and filled them, to the very brim again, so I couldn't add cream or sugar. If you are just looking for a good location, then it's adequate. "Does not pay attention to guest needs"
When we checked in, we got a room with broken air contioner and staff did not even bother to follow up with us until we asked for a hotel manager. After two days stay with no air, we complained to the hotel manager and we were assigned to a room with air. We initially asked the hotel to bring two sets of shampoo, conditioner and lotion for my friend […] and I every day. However, it was never done. We had to call the guest service every day to remind them to bring another set. It was very disappointing that the hotel did not pay attention to our minimal needs. "Awesome staff and great location"
I was worried after reading some of the reviews but pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The staff is exceptional and our room #817, not one of the renovated, was great. Awesome view, huge comfortable bed and gigantic shower/tub. Only down side was the price of parking and the pillows were a little too hard. Hotel is within walking distance of everything, […] one block away from the memorials and about 1 mile from the museums. Plenty of restaurants 1-2 blocks up, 5 min walk thru campus. Would definitely stay again if we ever go back to DC. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good stay overall"
We had expected to be on higher floor and to also have air conditioning but we were first given a 3rd floor room facing the bldg. next door and the air conditioning would not be turned on for another few weeks (current temps were upper 70's to lower 80's). We did get moved to a room on 7th fl at the front of bldg. and fans were delivered to us. Our […] stay was comfortable and pleaseant, All Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The elevators are extremely slow, the shower water temp changed constantly during shower and did not have much water pressure. Overall, we had a good stay and may stay at this hotel again. We stayed here to visit our daughter who attends GWU. It was about a block from her dorm! Perfect and walkable to some great restaurants: Circa and Founding Farmers. Used the Foggy Bottom Metro station with ease.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great inexpensive hotel in an ideal location"
Stayed there with my daughter for a college visit and we loved it!! Easy short walk to GW.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great access to places we were going and easy on-site parking that wasn't too expensive. Room spacious and very clean but room temperature was not cool enough. Perhaps air-conditioning was not functioning properly. We were only there one night and didn't spend much time in the room other than to sleep so did not mention to staff. "comfortable quiet hotel for long stays"
I was in DC for a week-long business trip. The room was like a spacious efficiency apartment, comfortable, clean, easy to work in, relaxing. Staff were courteous, attentive and helpful. Internet worked. Restaurant was fine. Price very reasonable. 2 blocks from a grocery store and 4 blocks from the Metro. Who could ask for more?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Metro and Whole Foods"
Very comfy. Take the bus to Georgetown from the hotel. The Metro and Whole Foods are four short blocks from the hotel. The hotel is good and roomy. Very helpful staff. Ask for Jose.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Last minute DC"
The hotel was in a good location, however there were very few places nearby to eat, or grab something quick. The hotel had a restaurant, but it was lacking, the service was spotty and the food was not too good. Our room was right under some construction, so at 730 am, there was sawing, drilling and banging. When we complained at the desk, they apologized, […] but could have offered a drink at the restaurant or dessert. The valet service and bell hops knew more about restaurants, and interesting g places than the 'gentleman' at the desk. "Best bang for your buck"
This place is an understated gem. My suite was generously sized with a roomy kitchenette. The beds were comfortable and the place was clean and quiet. The hot water could have been hotter; it was only warm at it's highest setting with no cold water mixed in. The price was a GREAT deal for the room and amenities that were included. Five easy blocks from […] Foggy Bottom metro station, 10 minute walk to memorials. The "F" street entrance is easier to locate than the one on "E" Street. The downstairs restaurant is EXCELLENT!!! "Glad we stayed here"
Overall, I was very pleased and would stay there again. We visited in early April and the room was uncomfortably warm one night until we were given a fan to use. The air conditioning was not on yet. staff was very pleasant and helpful and gave good directions and information. The hotel was very clean and pretty much in good condition. The elevator was very slow. We would have liked a microwave to be added.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old hotel not centrally located"
Although clean, this was an old hotel in need of renovation. No deadbolts, no climate control, old bathroom with carpeting on half. Located away from restaurants and other hotels. Noisy staff in am. No major networks on TV. Staff friendly but not much help on surroundings.Genuine Expedia guest review
The only but fatal complaint I have: room service is the worst ever. They got our room wrong, we called an hour later to see where our order was, and being fully charged for that. Oh, by the way, the food was the worst ever too. So if you do not use room service, this hotel is the best in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Staff is AWESOME!!!"
First let me say...I booked my stay through Hotels.com...I will NEVER use them again or anyother third party. As I experienced a night of almost no sleep due to noise in and around the hotel, the hotel management was extremely apologetic and wanted to compensate me; however, because I booked through a third party they could not do anything. The manager […] offered to at least pay my taxi to the airport and offered to compensate a night on a future stay. Finally, I can not say enough good about the entire staff...but if you go, please do not let them book you a room on the first floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Loved our 4 night stay at The State! We stayed in the North tower in a newly renovated room. We asked for a King size room and got a fully stocked kitchen as a bonus! It was raining but over 50 degrees outside. The hotel can only have heat or air-conditioning. There was no air-conditioning and the room felt like an oven. They did give us a fan. "Walking distance to top sights"
We walked to the White House and to monuments and even the Smithsonian (a bit far) from this hotel. "DC's Best Kept Secret?"
The location can't be beat if you want to see all the major sites, the rooms are older, but cute, spacious and clean. Hotel staff are one of its best assets. Extremely helpful, even on a rainy day when everyone seemed to need a cab. They got the job done. The rooms are nicely appointed in a clean style. "Breif stay on business"
I stayed at the State Plaza, which is a residence hotel by design, 30 years ago in college, living there for 3 months for a college program in Washington. "Slightly Off the Beaten Track But Quite Nice"
The State Plaza is a very nice hotel tucked a bit out of the way on the George Washington campus. Staff were very nice & responsive. The room I had a layout different from most hotel rooms, with a small corridor connecting the bedroom to the bathroom, with a small vanity along the way, but I actually liked its non-cookie cutter design. This more of a 2 rather than 3 star hotel. It's showing its age and desperately needs a makeover. The elevators are the slowest that I've ever been on.
