We really enjoyed our stay at The Maids Head Inn. Our room, though small, was full of character, nicely decorated and definitely not your typical cookie cutter hotel room. This was my special treat on a recent football tour of my homeland as I'd never stayed here though it was a familiar landmark from years at school. In fact I had a clear view from my room of all my old school buildings in the shadow of the cathedral. Basically stumbling distance from anywhere you want to be in Norwich; particularly the Norwich Beer Festival (about 2 minutes walk). The cathedral is equally close as are fine pubs and dining establishments. Five minute or so cab ride from the station. Check-in is effortless. You do have to get a fresh password for the wi-fi each morning.

The hotel is centrally located in Norwich downtown. It is in walking distance to the train station and downtown attractions. The hotel restraurant has fantastic foods. Breakfast options is also rich. There are also 4 or 5 very nice restaurants just outside the hotel within 100 yards. Hotel is very old - so old that I heard it is the oldest hotel […] in England. Nevertheless the room is very nice and comfortable. Our window opens to an ancient graveyard. That does not quite bother me. It is just interesting. Later on after I got home, I also realized from the internet that this is one of the most haunted hotels in England. Of course, in the 2 nights there we did not experience any paranormal activity. But I don't know, that might be a plus to somebody, if you are looking for added thrill to your vacation this is a good place to try out. If you don't, I think even if the ghost stories are true, the chances of bumping into one is extrememly rare. And they won't hurt you. The staff is very nice too. If you just want to kill a few nights in the remote city from London like this this is a good place to stay. Read more

I truly appreciate the staff person who mailed my wallet to me which had been left in a taxi on my way to the rail station and which was returned by the taxi driver. What a relief to get that back. The location is excellent for getting around the interesting places in Norwich. There is a nearby pub which is a bit noisy at night. We stayed at the Maids Head at very short notice so were not expecting their best room but did pay the extra for an executive room. However, the room was nothing to write home about - quite basic and we really felt that the bathroom needed attention - there was paint peeling off the walls, stains on paintwork and it wasn't very clean. Stayed for 3 nights over a weekend in October. Room was ok but nothing special, modern smallish,bed comfatable,lovely shower. Could hear man next door snoring and the doors close with a bang so not the quietest.Heating didn't work in room, had to make a fuss before we were moved. Staff said it was on a timer, then said it should be on now,we were cold […] and eventually offered other rooms. I see from other reviews the heating has been a problem, they need to get this fixed. This hotel is very convenient for walking tours of Norwich.Unfortunately the interior of the hotel has many stairs up and down getting from the reception or restaurant to guest rooms. It would not be suitable for anyone with even minor mobility issues.

Enjoyable stay. Staff very friendly, helpful and courteous. The room was pleasant, however noisy extraction fan on the roof of the kitchen kept me awake ( it was a warm night, and my window was open.) Apart from that, a very nice hotel in an excellent location.

We booked a last minute weekend getaway and stayed 2 nights. The online description is a "luxury" hotel, and it is given 4 stars, however I think the best rating would be 3 stars. While a pleasant hotel, it really needs a facelift - the decor is drab and worn. The exception was the restaurant which is airy and very attractive. I cannot comment on the […] food as we did not eat in the hotel. Our room did what it needed to but was small and again, drab. We looked out onto a wall. The bathroom was tiny, the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall and the toilet didn't flush properly. On the positive side, the shower was very hot and powerful, the towels white and fresh. The hairdryer was a proper one (hooray), not one fixed in the bathroom where you have the hold in the button to keep it going. The hotel's biggest plus is its location. The cathedral is just outside, and there are numerous bars and restaurants on the doorstep which cater for all tastes. We would particularly recommend the Spice Lounge just across the road for great service and a fab curry. Just down the road in Elm Hill, we found a little tea shop where we had tea and homemade cakes, and elsewhere we had a full English breakfast in an Italian style cafe. The Mall shopping centre is within walking distance. Everywhere, the architecture and old buildings, the river, the churches, the little passageways, made for a very very lovely atmosphere. Very friendly and efficient staff. This is a very traditional town centre hotel, with many interesting historic features. This type of hotel can easily become tatty and threadbare but the Maids Head seemed to be in very good condition and well looked-after. Breakfast was good.
