"Atrium view is the way to go!"
While they are pricey, I love to stay in the atrium view rooms. We sat on our balcony enjoying cocktails before dinner and watching people walk below us, and then left the balcony doors open all night so that we could sleep to the sound of rushing water from the waterfalls and fountains. I feel that if I had paid half the price (I'm actually not sure […] how much the other rooms are) for a room without an atrium balcony I would have been dissatisfied with my whole experience and have spent the whole time wishing I had sprung for the view. Very crowded at checkin. You have to wait in line with those checking in even if you just want to valet park your car. That wait can be 20-30 minutes. One day they forgot to clean our room. I heard many great things about the Opryland Hotel so I decided to book a room there on my last night in Nashville before heading out of town. I took advantage of thier advertised "christams deal". What I didn't know was that I signed up for a "parlor" room that only had a queen pull-out bed to sleep on. So unhappy with this place. Although the staff is very nice, our reservations, made 6 weeks ago and confirmed twice, were screwed-up (our room is now located across from the 24 hour laundry facility = no sleep or quiet), it's been taking an hour to drop off/get our car, 2 hours to get a table at one of the restaurants, our spa reservations were canceled […] without notifying us, half of the states of Mississippi and Georgia are staying here for their bowl game, the national cheer completion is here - wish someone had told us ... "If you hate to wait, this is not the place for you"
Check-in and parking pretty much ruined our trip to this grand hotel. We stayed one night passing through to Texas and one night a week later passing back through to Jersey. Besides the lack of parking and the ridiculously high cost of it, checking in to get our room was simply stupid. It wasn't as bad the second time, but still the same issues. The hotel staff at check-in seemed more concerned about talking to each other than getting the winding line of people standing in front of them off to their rooms. It was frustrating, especially for the people with small children. On a side note, this was my family's first vacation in over 4 years. We saved the whole year to about $2,500. We stayed here for one night, and truly enjoyed ourselves. It was a very pleasant getaway, with such a unique experience. The room was very clean, and had a beautiful view that overlooked one of the indoor courtyards. The first one was due to the weather. We were on a carriage ride, which was beautiful, but a bad storm was moving our way. We were dropped off at the front gate, with little warning. Naturally, we started to head towards the basement. A crowd of people began to follow us. During this time, one of the maintenance workers was down there and tried to direct everyone. This seemed to be a difficult task. There were maybe a couple hundred of us down there, and not many staff were there to direct and inform. I think this would have appeased people and calm their fears some. Instead, it felt as if we were left in the dark for an our trying to figure it out on our own. The second issue had to do with dinner. We ate at the steakhouse, which was very great, but our server was a little unfriendly to us. When we ordered wine, he took my date's order, and neglected mine. At another point, he was talking loudly to the table behind us about SEC football while we were trying to have a quiet, romantic dinner. Other than these experiences, we truly enjoyed our stay. "Hotel does not live up to reputation"
Upon check-in, we were told we had been "upgraded" to a standard room with atrium view at no "additional charge", although we had pre-paid for a Suite (which was much more than a standard room)! When we declined the offer, we were told all suites were sold out. After a very long wait and several discussions, a suite magically became available. During […] our stay, we requested sheets, 2 blankets and 3 extra pillows. They delivered 2 blankets after an hour, and never brought the sheets or pillows. The rooms are smelly and decor is extremely outdated. It is obvious the Hotel never recovered from the floods and the Hotel was placed operational before it was ready for guests. Throughout the interior atriums, there was never anyone available to help with directions, and the one time we found someone, they gave us opposite directions for where we were trying to go and it took us over 30 minutes with 2 elderly parents to get to a point that was only 2 minutes away. The Opryland Hotel is hugely overpriced for the accommodations and service. If you want to see the interior, I suggest you visit, but stay at another closeby hotel.
