Room very small. You could hear nose from other rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"so small that bed is just next to the door"
I've stayed at a number of NYC hotels and this one has to be the most disappointing when it comes to the rooms… There are two beds in this Superior Double Room, and the corner of one bed is two feet from the door. So if one of the occupants is in bed (in my case, I'm nursing my baby), and the other occupant opens the door, and someone happens to walk […] past in the common corridor… the passerby can see what's going on in bed. So much for privacy. Most hotel rooms have a small hallway leading to the beds, so you don't get a full view of the room right away when you open the door -- and that's even for very small, single-occupancy room -- but not for this room where we stayed. I cannot imagine having four adults staying at this room, it's claustrophobic. The bathroom is tiny too, with only a shower area, no tubs. To make matters worse… maybe because it was an unusually warm winter night, but it took a long time to get the room cooled to a comfortable temperature. We slept on top of the covers. The check-in was okay, only one guy at work, but there were no lines so it's fine. Conclusion - for the price or lower, I can get a bigger, more comfortable room. I was deciding between this and a midtown hotel where I've stayed and enjoyed, and I'm still kicking myself for trying out this one. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
i don't stay in Manhattan often so I'm not familiar with room size and such, but I suspect at 151 Sq. Feet, it was a bit of a bargain in NYC. Very nice front desk staff, nicely appointed lobby and I loved the 15% discount for breakfast at the adjacent coffe shop.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
No problems or issues with this hotel. Would book this hotel again. Was a nice walk to Bloomingdales and Macy's (about 20-30 minutes).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to the subway"
This hotel is lovely and so were all of the staff members. The rooms are beautiful and in very nice location. There are some shops and good restaurants within walking distance and the metro is one block away.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable home away from home"
A lovely hotel in a great neighborhood. The staff was very helpful. We felt at home in a big city with a little advice from them. We'd definitely stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
We chose The Lucerne Hotel because of its location near the start of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We have eaten at Nice Matin on a previous trip and admired The Lucerne Hotel. We were not disappointed. Everything about our stay was great. We use the gym and business center and made daily use of Nice Matin. The rooms were very comfortable and […] our corner unit gave us a fabulous view up and down both Amsterdam Avenue and 79th Street. We walked easily to the parade balloon inflation on Wednesday night and then to the Parade Thursday morning. Location was perfect. Front desk helped us with our needs and were very friendly Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Museum of Natural History"
We met up with friends who were staying at the hotel for business. We decided to stay at the same place, since the price was reasonable for the neighborhood. It's very convenient to the subway, and just a few blocks west of the natural history museum - one of our favorite destinations. . . The neighborhood has lots of good restaurants - and the restaurant […] in the hotel building is VERY good also. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location, cental to everything and a good, nicely maintained, boutique hotel."
Ive stayed at the Lucerne 4 times in the last year. My most recent stay was at best, disappointing. We were told we would get a corner room that was a little larger since there were 3 of us and we were staying a week. The white bedding had brown marks on it, like dirt. We asked for the bedding to be changed and housekeeping didn't do it even though […] we were tipping them every day. Housekeeping also forgot to take the trash out 3 days in a row. We asked for a king bed, but got 2 double bed instead. A room which was right next to the elevator so it was quite noisy. As a woman recovering from cancer sleep is important to my recovery but clearly this wasnt important to the Lucerne staff. My previous stays there were much more comforting and were overall lovely. This most recent stay put a sour taste in my mouth, and on my next trip I will consider the Lucerne but will look into other hotels as well. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Lucerne Hotel is a small boutique hotel on the Upper West Side in a terrific neighborhood. It is out of the way for most business travelers unless they want to be on a West Side subway line. The room I first went to check into was an inside room and looked into a wall at the end of a narrow opening . It was claustrophobic and dark and felt like […] I was in a detention center. The next room was on the second floor, noisy but light and a lot more inviting. There was no mini refrigerator, no coffee maker, and only one chair at a desk, so a couple does not each have a place to sit other than the queen size bed. The gym was well-appointed. There is a REALLY NICE restaurant Nice Matin attached to the hotel.Overall it is a cozy experience with friendly staff. Housekeeping responded promptly for extra towels. I would stay there again! "Best place on Upper West Side"
Lucerne staff was wonderful, welcoming and knowledgeable - from front desk to doormen to concierge! Location is fantastic, near to Central Park, restaurants and the 24 hour drugstore across the street! We'll be back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel in super location"
Super location. Less than a block to the subway, and within a short walk to Museum of Natural History. About a 20 minute walk to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The staff were friendly and the room was very nice, but small like other NYC hotel rooms. I was surprised about 2 things: First, the connecting door to the restaurant is only open for breakfast. […] You have to go outside to get to the restaurant for other meals. Not a big thing, but a surprise to us. Second, there was no in-room coffee maker. I can't remember going to any hotel room (especially at this price) in the last 20 years where there was no in-room coffee maker. We definitely missed that. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent location - friendly and helpful staff"
The location of the hotel is perfect for restaurants and shopping. The staff at the Lucerne was excellent. They were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice, clean, and comfortable. The shower was a bit odd as there was only a designated area in the bathroom with a curtain, so the water flowed to a second drain that was closer to the door - a bit […] messy. Other than that, overall great stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"very small room, bathroom not enough space"
The hotel did not fit my expectations. The room was extremely small and the bathroom as well. You could barely walk around the room. Another thing that was very upsetting was to find two dogs in the elevator. I believe the hotel should tell you when you book that there will be animals in the premises. I am alergic to dogs and this was not something […] I was expecting in a hotel where you pay close to $300,00 per night! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Everything was perfect. I have stayed at the Lucerne many times. The hotel never lets me down. The service is outstanding, the room is clean and very comfortable. There was free Wi-Fi. The hotel is located near transportation and great restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My stay was okay, but I would not go back to the hotel. The rooms are very small and the heat/cool controls were very erratic and i was up and down each night turning the heat/cooling controls on and off...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Upper West Side Location"
The Lucerne is a nice alternative to the larger hotels. For the most part the staff was friendly and accommodating. However, one morning's wake-up call didn't happen. Sadly, I could also hear toilets in nearby rooms when they flushed in the middle of the night.Genuine Expedia guest review
This is a typical New York hotel, with small tight rooms. This was pretty much like a bedroom at your house. The room was clean, if not dated. There are really no facilities to speak of. The restaurant is not the hotels, and room service comes from a diner in the area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old and Tired hotel"
I was mislead by the current reviews and booked this hotel by mistake. It is an old and tired hotel that must have not had an upgrade for a very long time. The room smells and I had to open the windows the moment I stepped into the room, and keep them open even during sleep. The carpet was dirty and made me kept my shoes on the whole time except when […] in bed. The light fixtures are loose and bulbs go on and off by itself. Closet and bathroom are tiny and room pay out strange. Will not recommend any one staying here before they do a complete make over. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel. Good location. Reasonable price."
Convenient location. First room assigned had a very cramped closet with not enough height to hang coats. It was also dark, facing a wall. Second room assigned was OK.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was convenient, comfortable and well staffed for my needs (though I didn't need much). It's not glam and the rooms are small, but everything worked and I was quite content there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good but dark"
Although the hotel is generally good, the rooms are old, musty and dark. Lightening is especially poor and rooms have an old musty smell. Staff is friendly and helpful. Area is fairly quiet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Other than the jack hammering of the sidewalk which started at 8:00am daily the experience was pleasant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is my second time at the hotel. It is a great location, clean, nice staff. Would definitely stay here again. My only complaint is the toilet is extremely loud when you flush it!!! We didn't have a coffee pot in our room, queen, but requested one and the staff immediately took care of this.Genuine Expedia guest review

"nice but hardly worth the high prices"
The Lucerne is a nice hotel to be sure, wonderfully located but charges very high rates for what are very small rooms, a hotel that badly needs refurbishing (and shows it) offering very few amenities. It simply is not worth the money-even by New York City standards. The Excellsior is right about the corner and is a much better deal and equally as nice. […] Stay there instead. "Very Nice Hotel in Manhattan, New York"
The hotel was very accommodating. It was close to several restaurants - our room was very clean and very nice. The only thing we did not care too much about is there was mirror in the room except in the bathroom. It was a bit difficult to out on makeup and do hair when the other person was in the bathroom. I definitely would go back there again!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fantastic -- gem on 79th street!"
It's tough to find a beautiful small hotel that is thoroughly updated and well-run, but that is the Lucerne. Rooms are thoroughly renovated with great new amenities; bathroom great; even a coffeemaker was provided (unusual in upscale New York hotels). Great find; my New York hotel of choice, going forward.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel on The Upper West Side"
Good stay near Central Park, The History Museum, plenty of shops and restaurants. It's a 12 minute walk to Lincoln Center. The hotel staff were friendly and the hotel was quiet. I definitely recommend!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fun in NYC"
Arrived for a 2 night stay to explore the Central Park area. the hotel was a perfect location for what we wanted to do! Rooms were clean and comfortable, bathrooms lovely, loved the rotating shower head and marble sinks. A rooftop view was advertised but when we asked it was only for the business meeting, we were slightly dissappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was in great condition, very clean, quiet, and the location was convenient to restaurants and the subway. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful with sightseeing plans. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel and it was very good. I would stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not All Back Rooms are Quiet"
Service was excellent, although the back room that was to be quiet turned out to be between the ice machine room and the fitness room and hence constantly noisy. The room as small and acceptable, but certainly not comfortable. No where to sit and read; a shower than was part of the bathroom and hence inevitably flooded, so not the best hotel in the […] area. "Perfect Hotel on the Manhattan West Side"
We were greeted at the curb by a friendly doorman and found the rest of the staff to be just as friendly. The room had two queen beds and a small sitting area which made our stay just a bit more comfortable. Lots of character in this older hotel and also well maintained and very clean. The hotel is located two blocks from central park and one block […] from a main subway line. You are a short subway ride away from Time Square, Broadway plays, or Penn Station. A little longer subway ride and you are at the 9/11 Memorial and Battery Park. The neighborhood was very nice. There were many restaurants nearby along with almost anything else you could need or want. Stores, shops, and even FedEx shipping are minutes away. The hotel concierge was especially helpful filling in gaps in our planned itinerary. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"quality hotel in a residential neighborhood"
I booked two rooms for two nights for out-of-town family members. Since I live in UWS, I wanted to book them in a hotel that was convenient for me to stop by. The hotel is only a 10 min subway ride to Time Square and mid-town Manhattan where they spent most of their stay in NYC. I was overall satisfied by the hospitable service of the front desk and […] concierge, as I'm sure were my relatives. The rooms are on the small size but they were clean. Very old hotel but clean and well maintained. Don't espect the kind of amenities you would get at a luxury hotel==but that didn't deter from my stay!
