"Not as nice as the photos"
Bed was very uncomfortable. Parking is an issue, valet only and $23 per night, not to mention VERY slow at retrieving the vehicle. I would pass on this hotel in the future. Has a "wanna-be "W"" feel to it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Derek has lost it's charm"
I am so disappointed with my recent stay at Hotel Derek... As this was my 8th stay at Derek, I thought I knew what to expect- friendly staff, lively restaurant/bar, and well appointed accomodations- but they have changed ownership and apparently changed everything else too. Nice hotel convenient to Galleria area in Houston. Unfortunately, I experienced horrific service that would even be offensive at a much cheaper hotel. At this price level, they should do better. Room did not get cleaned, towels did not get replaced, and I received horrible service in the restaurant. Hotel was awesome. It was really classy with only valet parking and everything. Rooms were very nice but with the price you get no microwave, no fridge (the one in the room is small and filled with stuff that they charge you for if you use them). "Hotel Derek"
Was giving a very small room for two. Sheets were dirty so it took a while to change that. There were no cups or silverware in the room. Mini bar was halfway empty. I came here for a business trip and it was a good location for where I needed to go. The hotel offered a shuttle service which came in handy. However, they failed to clean my room while I was out and I was disappointed when I came back after a long day. I enjoyed the stay. The room was clean and nice. The staff was polite. It however, seemed all business and not inviting. Like the hotel was a bank turned hotel. I like a more luxury and it felt more like I was leaving a bar or a restaurant everytime valet brought our car. I felt rushed. "Won't stay there again"
Everything was fine until 2nd night ; "party" next door started at 8pm. They tried several times to enter our room through the inner door. We called night manager at 1am and were told police would be up immediately; the officer never came and the party continued until after 3am. Day manager (next morning) told us that the police were "busy on another […] floor." She offered us a free night in the future and comped the valet parking. The hotel is great, very cool, very swanky. The front desk service wasn't as great as you'd expect but they were good about resolving issues, just a little slow. Really nothing bad to say about it save for the untold inconvenience of the MANDATORY valet parking. Not too much of an issue but it's kind of annoying to have to valet if you don't really […] want to, or if you need to run down to get something from the car, it's a 20 minute situation. Totally unnecessary. Also, i was surprised with the $20 valet service charge tacked onto the bill. Surprise! not only is it mandatory, you also have to pay for it. Sneaky. Stayed for one night, when checking in valet was a bit rude but the staff inside was extremely friendly and apologized for the behavior. Hotel room was clean, bed was by far the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at any hotel. Hotel was under construction but the noise was minimal and I could not hear anything in my room. "Hidden Fees"
