"Close to all we required"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Mar 2, 2013
Excellent stay. I went on business and my wife and kids on vacation. The check-in counter/customer service/staff were exceptionally good. The only minor issue I had was that the shower head in the bathroom is too low - I am 6'2" .

"Penn View"
Character is early american. Room a little quirky.Genuine Expedia guest review
A great little hotel in Old City; an easy walk to everywhere we wanted to go.The bar and restaurant are excellent though drinks are a bit pricy. The staff was pleasant, helpful and professional. Housekeeping needs to learn how to make a bed; the flat sheet goes under the blanket, not over it. This was our second time there and we will return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely and fun location"
I stayed at the Penn's View twice in a two week period, and each time I wished I had more nights at this absolutely pleasant hotel. In addition to beautiful furniture and a stately (and quite clean) restroom, the hotel offered excellent food options. I enjoyed several dinners at the delicious hotel restaurant which has an acclaimed wine bar (with over […] 100 wines by the glass, thanks to a cruvet system keeps the wine completely fresh). The bartenders and servers there were so kind and interesting, telling me a lot about Philadelphia and things I could do with my free time there. Breakfast in the morning, which was included with my room, was extensive as well, with lots of fresh melon, homemade scones, hardboiled eggs, and waffles + the typical continental fare. I really looked forward to this breakfast! Even though it was 9 degrees F outside one night, I was completely warm in my room and in the well-blanketed bed. Finally, Penn's View is literally around the corner from a street packed with shops and restaurants. I will specifically seek out this hotel when visiting Philly again. "Historical Decor"
Stayed one night and asked for a room that would be quiet. Right outside the front of the hotel is a busy interstate and to the side a ramp with bus activity. Stayed with an inner courtyard which wasn't bad. The mattress (queen) was a somewhat hard but acceptable. The room was quaint - felt like we were staying in someone's home. "Old bedding"
We stayed at Penn's View overnight to write a professional exam in Philly, the room looked over parking lot, the heater was an old window unit with noisy fan, the room was nice and elegant, but the carpet wasn't vacuumed, the mattress was uncomfortable, the sheets old and thin, the breakfast was included and fantastic for continental but served late […] (started 7 am), the Italian restaurant and wine selection were superb, bathroom was outdated with a small shower stall but very clean. "Vintage charm in the hotel"
pros: complementary breakfast, newspaper, wi-fi, close to the subway and buses, friendly service. Cons: bed linen looked old, shower curtain barely fit the tub thereby causing water to be on the bathroom floorGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Penn's View Hotel: beautiful and cozy"
I loved this hotel. It is small and beautiful. My room was very cozy and nicely decorated. And the price I payed for it was excellent (room with a fireplace, and the bathroom with jacuzzi). It's a beautiful place to stay for a couple of days (or more). It's conveniently located and the people working there very nice and friendly. Very nice free breakfast, […] too. My next trip to Philly, I will definitely stay at the Penn's View again. I highly recommend it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very comfortable boutique hotel"
Very clean, comfortable, close to restaurants and historical sites. Great view of the Delaware River from our room. Reasonably priced. Parking next door very convenient, a bit tight for bigger vehicles, but manageable. Friendly staff. Much more pleasant than most chain hotels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Romantic and wonderful!"
We stayed in the suite with a jacuzzi and fireplace. Super romantic and just wonderful. I was craving an apple late at night so I went down to ask if they could help me out and they had one! Friendly and accommodating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Warm and Cozy"
The Penn's View is a great hotel with an Inn feel to it. We only were able to stay for an overnight. It met all our needs.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet, dark, beautiful room."
Outside of some damage to the hallway wall, the room was beautiful, dark, and quiet. The bathroom was nicely done with a large jacuzzi tub. The only complaint I would have is they give you four pillows, three are hard as marble, one was ok. The restaurant was excellant and the morning complimentary breakfast was very good with a large variety of "continental" […] items, two waffle makers, and two egg boilers. Overall very nice place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not a five star hotel"
People who rated this a five- star hotel have apparently never stayed in a five-star hotel. This is a fine hotel but it is old, old, old. The rooms are in a rabbits warren of hallways, well-maintained but old.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Romantic getaway hotel with historic charm"
Overall, a lovely experience. Highly recommended for couples and romantic getaways, however there were definitely plenty of business travelers staying at the hotel as well. As with most vintage, boutique type historic hotels, certainly has its quirks. Some would say quirks, others would say charms. A couple maintenance and upkeep issues to note, one […] being a jet on the jacuzzi tub blew off when trying to operate the jets. I was able to fix it on my own, so no huge deal. Another is the fitness center maintenance, e.g. water dispenser was tapped and one of the benches was broken. The staff was professional and helpful enough and offered good customer service. Our room in particular was charming, clean, however on the very small side and had no view whatsoever, which was relatively disappointing. I recommend calling ahead of time and trying to grab one of the Deluxe Jacuzzi rooms with a view. All in all though, a recommended stay. Oh, and the beds were super comfortable as well! "One Night Stay"
We only stayed for one night and found the accomodations very good... I booked a room with a hot tub but I arrived very late and this room was not available -they put me in a room that had a fireplace and a better view which we enjoyed very muchGenuine Expedia guest review

"Holiday delight"
Lovely old fashioned elegance with modern amenities and a fabulous friendly staff. We chose a room with a whirlpool tub & got the bonus of a romantic gas fireplace. Penn's View is centrally located in the Historic district, close to shopping, restaurants and clubs. "A little gem which I hope stays that way"
Your Review I'm torn between giving/not giving this hotel an excellent review, as part of me wants to keep this gem to myself. But here's the lowdown.... The hotel is just off the Old Town end of Market street. You'd expect a very noisy experience with the highway nearby, but our room was surprisingly quiet. It was much more comfortable than one would […] expect from a slightly smaller than normal hotel room - everything was laid out efficiently for maximum benefit. And the little touches such as bathrobes hanging in the closet and a lit makeup mirror for the ladies made the place a delight to be in. The staff was very helpful, getting us complimentary sodas from the bar when the vending machine was broken. It's nice to know that the hotel wants to maximize OUR value for the money we're spending there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful Surprise!"
This hotel is a must see! We arrived for a one night stay, 3 hours before check in and were greeted immediately. The manager went to check and see if the room was ready and returned to tell us it was! We took our baggage in and were so pleasantly surprised to have a fireplace! The manager even took the time to prelight the fireplace! This hotel is within […] walking distance to all the usual tourist places and close to the waterfront in a well lit neighborhood. "Perfect stay at Penn's View"
Great staff! The location of this hotel is perfect for historical sightseeing and a fun getaway. The only reason I gave a 4 in comfort is because the room was a bit too warm for me. But my husband liked it just like that. We also ate at the restaurant in the hotel (Panorama). The staff was very helpful; the ambiance was very nice and the food was really […] good. "Location good and bad"
Location was great for walking out to see historic sites in Philadelphia during the day. After dark, I would not have been as comfortable walking around the area .
