"Easy access to public transportation."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
The staff was very friendly and helpful! My only suggestion would be to give more detailed instructions on how to arrive from the airport to the hotel. It is not included in the hotel shuttles and we had a hard time finding out how to take the public transportation. Ended up taking a taxi which cost €40. But it is worth the trouble. Very nice hotel and includes a nice breakfast. We would definitely stay again if visiting Amsterdam.
"Close to train station"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
Only stayed here 1 night - it was convenient and cheaper than the airport hotels for an overnight. Right acrosss the street from the central train station (5 minutes walk), 4.40 Euro and <30 minutes to the airport, lots of restauraunts in the area and plenty of shops - conevnient for luggage as well! Free wifi new TV's. Would stay here again.

"Excellent hotel, close to must-see sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 24, 2013
This hotel is good value for the money. The room was big, clean and we had a great view of the canal. The hotel is very close to tram stations, restaurants and super markets. We would definitely consider this hotel again.
"Did not seem like a 5 star"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 24, 2013
Was very nice but the room was too warm, especially for February.
"Great location- not so good everything else"
Brilliant location But very small room (even for Amsterdam- the room was too small for 2 people). The room wasn't clean and there was no refrigerator in it (and it's a 4 star hotel). The staff was and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"over priced"
it was ok at half the price , but for that price they could at least supply some toiletries and more than 2 small bath towels it was a good ;location but opver priced - not better than a 2-3 star hotel at 5 star pricesGenuine Expedia guest review

"Location is fantastic!"
Location is great. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were a little small but worked for us. Didn't go to Amsterdam to be in our room. Would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Die Port van Cleve"
the room was small and the bathroom was a bit smelly (sewage smell, a bit), but considering customer service, location, and historical aspect of the hotel, it's still worth to stay at this hotel. the restaurant at this hotel is absolutely great as well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We were Frozen in a little hotel room!"
The airconditioning of all the hotel was out of order. We weren't able to set the room temperature. Although we stayed and were happy before we were frozen with the very cold weather conditions.Genuine Expedia guest review

"amsterdam die port"
All was good. Bed a bit small for 2 people. Bathroom had a little mold in the ceiling. Otherwise, great location, great staff, all was 4.5 out of 5.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Amsterdam I would not go anymore"
Typical european hotel room. Tiny and good for the price for 1 person. As soon as you are in the room with your partner, you fall over each other. Rather pay a bit more and get a typical american hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"die Port van Cleve Hotel, Amsterdam"
Location was perfect, close to train station. Room was small but workable. Only negative was the traffic noise throughout the night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, room a little outdated. Beds were a bit lumpy"
I had the twin room and the beds were not comfortable. I was on my own so it was ok. The hotel is clean, safe and decent but not 4 star. 2.5 to 3 star. Location however is great. TIP the shuttle van to airport booked via hotel frontdesk was well worth 15.50 Euros. So convenient.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to everything and helpful staff"
The hotel was right near tourist sights, buses, places to eat and a supermarket. It was walking distance to the train as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly and spoke English well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Port van Cleve"
This hotel is NOT a 4 stars. At best 3 stars. They just take advantage of the location. Which is very convenient due to how close everythings is, The Dam Square, the Central Station, the Red light district, etc, etc. The door of my room was left open twice by cleaning ladys, i spoke to them and ask not to let the door open again, since any one can enter […] the room and take whatever they want. The second time, i went to the front desk and complained, well after that they retaliated. They hardly cleaned the room, i had to ask to had the linens changed on the bead. I would stay in this Hotel only if they have a lower rate than other Hotels in the same area. For the rest , i would not. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"There's a very big "but" coming..."
Location terrifically convenient to Central Station, fantastic facade of the building along with its amusing history, pleasant enough staff, BUT there was a mouse in our room, so we asked for another which was provided in short order but once we got to new room it smelled to high heaven, of what we did not stay to investigate, and were given a 3rd room […] fairly quickly but this one was the smallest of the lot. two people with luggage (one bag each) is extremely tight. mattresses lumpy and deeply indented. noisy even on back of bldg. sleep did not come easy in this hotel. next door is a vastly over priced and over rated shopping mall with, however, marvelous archetecture. "Subpar hotel in Red Light District"
The staff at the hotel (only) were helpful (restaurant was another story). When we arrived in our room, it was extremely stinky (lasted throughout the entire stay). There was also a note saying that the Air conditioning did not work as they were undergoing a "soft refurbishing". Maybe it will be better after it's fully "refurbished". Location is the […] one saving grace of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A good location for a first visit to Amsterdam"
This hotel had a nice sized room and was centrally located for access to the Central train station, the trams, and just walking to the downtown and west side attractions. A good value for the price and certainly more roomy than the rooms that I had for the same price in London and Paris.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Room size"
We lucked out and got one of the two balcony rooms and it was great. Our friends did not and although I did not see it they said their room was so small they couldn't open both suitcases at the same time. The location is great. "Great location!"
We stayed at the Die Port van Cleve Hotel for four nights and were pleased in overall. The best location! Very central, close to the Central Station. The breakfast was very good and had a nice selection of early morning food. However, the small size of the room and total lack of the storage space (the closet was tiny with four hangers available) didn't […] make us fully satisfied with the hotel. Our friends had a regular size closet and fit all their clothes but for us it was a big disadvantage of the room. Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful. We would go back to this hotel IF we will be given a bigger size room and closet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great stay"
The location was excellent, near the square but not too close to the hoopla. Walking distance to everything but had a great restaurant right out front. The room was clean and spacious compared to our Paris hotel for the same money. The staff was friendly and helpful. We also found taxi drivers to be the most helpful and knowledgeable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Die Port van Cleve hotel Amsterdam"
We had a great experience at the hotel. Were able to check in early and in fact were upgraded to a suite. Hotel is right behind the palace -super location. Anne Frank's house is four canals (streets) away. The only down side is the air conditioning has not been installed as yet and it was very hot on the top floor during the day. However we knew about […] the air when we made the reservation (no surprise). Would go back in a minute. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Location"
Great hotel and even better location! The hotel is within walking distance to pretty much everywhere you want to be and it is very reasonably priced. The only downside is that there is no AC... which can make for an uncomfortable night's sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, historic hotel"

"Great hotel near everything you want to see."
We came into Amsterdam with very little knowledge of what to see and where to go. In fact we had never really intended to travel there. The hotel was old but very well maintained, clean and had alot of character. Would very much […] recommend this hotel to everyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

close to the tourist district, but rooms are small and the hotel and resturant is very expensive. the main thing I have negative to say is it is VERY NOISY!!! They loaded pallets in a truck right under our room window all night. They threw them in the truck and workers talking and laughing all during the night. We mentioned it to the desk clerk and […] she said they were expecting more deliveries the next night also. They did change us to another room, but it was even smaller and still noisy. Coming back, we stayed at the Quality INN DAM BY THE AIRPORT. IT WAS HALF THE PRICE, VERY NICE, BIG ROOMS, OFFERED FREE SHUTTLE TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT, FREE BUFFET BREAKFAST, GREAT RESTUARANT, QUIET AND HAD SHOPPING Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Die Port Van Cleve"
We went to have fun and party so consider that when reading my review. The staff at the hotel were very friendly. They will offer you details about the city if you hadn't researched Amsterdam yourself. If they don't check you in right away, trust that they are full. I'm not going to lie about this either, if you sit in the lobby with regular clothes […] on, it may speed up the process of getting checked in. Otherwise taking a walk around the friendly city will be one of the coolest experiences of your life. The city makes the hotels here not the other way around. I could have slept in a hostile and been just as happy considering the people we ran into. But there is no denying the facts, Die Port Van Cleve is a notch above most hotels I saw because of location. You will be right behind Dam Square. If you are a social bug this is the place for you. When you look at cost of rooms and location your value chart should go way up! The value of this hotel is great. (I still stand by my hostile comment; people in this city are very friendly and all the dutch speak perfect english. You'll have no problem feeling safe and secure.) Don't go wondering around between 4am and 7 am, nothing will be open and streets will have random englishmen walking around begging for 2 euro chips. BRing your chapstick if you go when it is cold. I LOVE AMSTERDAM!!! Upgrade to a smoking room if you want to enjoy the gourmet! ;) Happy TRavels! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location-otherwise okay"
It was pretty close to everything which was great- however the room was a bit cold and it seemed like there was only a building temperature and we were not able to make it warmer. I actually slept with my feather down jacket for the beginning of two of the nights and they did not have extra sheets. It got warmer later, i guess they don't turn on the […] heat until a certain time. They also had free lobby internet which was great. The front desk was also very helpful. We might stay here again. "Port Van Cleve Hotel in Amsterdam-good location"
We were pleased with the location, but our room smelled of sulfur, there was alot of noise at night, our early wake up call never came and the hotel resturant has a poor breakfast and over priced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great Amsredam location"
great hotel centrallocation minuetes walk from the station and Dam Square on a Tram line for easy access to th rest of the city but with a great deal close by walk to shops, flower marke,t red light district and a good variety of restaurants. "The Port Van Cleve"
This is my second stay at this Hotel. It is well located, about ten minutes walk from Central Station. Right next to the Magna Plaza shopping Center, The Dam Square right across the street, and the Red Light District at about 5 minutes walk. Therefore it's all about location, i would recomend this Hotel based on location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Location, location, location..."
This site of the original Heineken brewery is a stones throw from the Royal Palace, Dam Square, Damrak, and shopping boulevard. A perfect launch point for museums and galleries. "GREAT LOCATION,SMALL ROOMS"
LOVED HOTEL EXTERIOR,BAR AND LOCATION. FOOD AT HOTEL REATAURANT WAS EXPENSIVE. HOTELS ROOMS SMALL NOISY BUT THE BEDS WERE COMFORTABLE. WE WERE OUT ALL DAY SO THE ROOM SIZE WASN'T AN ISSUEGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unclean, cramped and dingy"
The rooms were dirty, cramped and shabby. Too much furniture crammed into a small room (had to squeeze sideways to get from the door past the bed). Carpets were filthy in the rooms and the hallways. Mold in the shower tiles. Bedding worn, thin and threadbare. Cigarette burns on the bathroom fixtures in a non-smoking room. Duvets on the bed were dense […] and clammy, not fluffy. The staff was OK but not particularly helpful. The bar downstairs was closed one day for no reason. The much-vaunted restaurant was only open for breakfast and lunch and grossly overpriced--and virtually empty at mealtime, not encouraging us to eat there. Promised wi-fi was not available except in the hotel lobby. All in all, a real disappointment in a city that has literally hundreds of small hotels. Not recommended. "Avoid"
1. Wifi didn't work in the room I was initially given. 2. The manager was not helpful and was completely aggravating to deal with 3. my initial room smelled like the inside of a commercial kitchen due to the fact it was located right above the kitchen and that was the view from my window. 4. While in the room I would hear the kitchen staff that was […] standing below the window talking in dutch. 5 No A/C in the rooms 6 The restaurant connected to the hotels was good 6. Then when checking out their credit card machine wasn't working properly and even after I called and my credit card company told them there was nothing wrong with my card they want me to pay some other way. "Great hotel for pre River Cruise stay"
Planned 3 days here prior to 14 day River cruise. Wanted to explore the city and get used to time difference prior to cruise. This location is perfect and the hotel was very nice. Easy walking distance to City Center for day cruises around the outer canals, to the Red Light District, Anne Franks house. Grocery store and mini shopping areas within 3 […] blocks. Only one computer to use, so bring your own if you "really" need that on daily basis. Worked out perfectly and would use them again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice for a Sauna, but not Hotel Room"
The hear was beyond what any american in the summer is used to, the hotel's manager had an attitude when we asked for a 3rd key card, and the parking is a outsourced services from a third-party, but they were very professional. Do not stay here, you will sufficate, as we did during the world cup weekend in Amsterdam.Genuine Expedia guest review
