"A Berkeley Alternative"
We were loking for an alternative to the uber expensive tiny hotel rooms one usually endures when visiting our daughter who is studying at Berkeley. This hotel provides an interesting alternative. We stayed in a room on the 5th floor. That you can only access these rroms after walking outside the hotel to a separate entrance is interesting (fortunaletly […] it was not raining). It would have been nice if the desk clerk checking us in had actually explained that to us, rather than us having to work it out on our own. The local is great, excpet when the AnTrak trains rumble through. That said, we didn't notice this when sleeping. The room we had was fairly standard, although the bathroom had been updated and the fireplace was a nice touch. I enjoyed a good workout in the small but adequate gym. "An Amazing Experience"
I loved living at this hotel with my girlfriend. The hotel staff was really nice and upgraded my hotel without any additional costs. Gave me late checkout and a bottle of free complimentary wine. Other than that the hotel is located centrally in a very nice and safe area of Oakland with lots of bars, restaurants and activities.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best location in Oakland"
Right on the water. Surrounded by great restaurants and attractions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I really enjoyed my stayGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A very quaint hotel. There is no parking though. You have to pay $25 per day to valet your car. The valet guys are super nice, but that cost adds up. We complained about the cost and they changed our overnight rate to the day rate of $15 per day. The location is great, view of the marina, lots of great restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location but Hotel could use a remodel"
My Wife and I stayed at the Waterfront Hotel last weekend. Overall it was an ok experience. Staff was friendly and valet is convenience. You pay $25 per night for valet parking (Only option). Room have a thin blue/greenish carpet which looks from the 80's. They have cool lamps in every room but they make noise with the vibration. For us, in the morning, […] our lamp would vibrate when people in the room above us would walk; you can also hear the foot steps. Walls are EXTREMELY THIN; in the morning, I could hear a phone vibrate and ring and I got up since I thought it was mine lol. After a couple minutes of looking under the bed and behind the couch, I realized it was coming from next door. Bathrooms were clean and nice but floors were sticky. "Convenient Great Hotel getaway"
We only stayed one night for a concert held at Yoshi's, but the neighborhood had great restaurants you could walk to and it is right on the water so very calm. Hotel was clean and service was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel, Great Service, but Very Loud train"
Hotel location was great, beware of the $25 parking fee. Also, don't count on getting a good night's sleep. The amtrak train comes by about every half an hour during the middle of the night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wonderful laid-back little hotel on the marina. Try to get a balcony room facing the bay and enjoy the sunset over San Francisco.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"ask when you check in"
The hotel was ok except for the noise. I had expected the train noise based on reviews. However, music started playing about 10:00 Pm. I had to use ear plugs to get any sleep. Rooms in other parts of the hotel might not have had this problem. Ask when you check in.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Thin walls and hard beds"
Great place to stay if you want to be up until midnight hearing how much fun your neighbors are having. The walls are so thin hear you can hear EVERYTHING! Beds were also so hard. The lobby with the fireplace was cute but not worth a lack of sleep the next morning.Genuine Expedia guest review
I took my friend for his birthday! Good timesGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great little hotel close to the Amtrak station. Perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It's a beautiful hotel that's dog friendly and had an every evening courtesy shuttle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic Boutique Hotel"
I cant say enough about the staff and the hotel. They upgraded my room to a corner, balcony with a fireplace. Not only was the view spectacular, but the size and comfort of the room was second to none. Danny at the front desk went out of his way to help with anything that I needed. The public waterfront brought out a few characters, but all in all this […] was a fabulous hotel experience. I cannot wait to bring my husband back with me on a leisure trip. "Not 4 Stars...."
It is definitely NOT a four star resort. Fortunately we used our free night stay for this location. Had I actually paid full price for this hotel I would have been mad. Its outdated, small and the photos look much better than the actual place. The bathrooms are sub par. Old closet doors etc. The best thing about this place were the pillows. It needs […] a renovation. Driving to this place I was concerned we may get shot. No joke. It is NOT a neighborhood I would walk around at night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Like a day at the beach."
We built our trip around a concert and dinner at Yoshi's, so stayed at the Waterfront. A number of their rooms have great harbor views; it is like being at a beach resort. Any number of fun restaurants and bars in walking distance. However, the restaurant at the hotel was a great surprise; we had breakfast/brunch, very innovative cocktail selection, […] way beyond the bloody mary, and their bloody mary was great. And, a very interesting set of food choices from local and organic suppliers, well prepared. Service was great fun. Do spend more and plan for a harbor-facing room -- some have decks. "Great Hotel but Noisy Trains!"
This is a perfect place to stay if you want to be near Jack London Square. Everything was perfect except for the train noise. Trains go through frequently , even during the night. The tracks are only a couple of blocks from the hotel, so...yah. It's noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Awesome as usual"
Enjoyed the room, the fireplace was a welcome surprise. The room was very spacious and was very clean, the pillows were good, and room service was awesome. Front desk guys great, and valet worked our perfectly! All in all a great visit. Will stay here from now on as we are frequent visitors to the bay area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a nice hotel!"
Both my wife and I loved the Waterfront Hotel. Very clean and excellent location to the ferries (Just minutes from the hotel). Also, the BART is only a 10 minute walk. Felt very safe. The hotel also provides free coffee.Genuine Expedia guest review
Really enjoyed being on the Jack London Water Front. Great restaurants available too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to my family"
The hotel was convenient to my family and in a nice location. However, I found it to be a little tired and in need of repairs: bad electrical outlets, poorly patched walls, paper thin walls where you can easily hear your neighbors, noisy AC. Parking fee of $25 per night was outrageous. Food was ok just need more more options. I would stay there again […] as I now know what to expect. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very nice hotel for the price. Very good location at Oakland Marina right next to the ferry terminal. Ideal location to make day trips. Reasonably priced restaurant and bar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, acceptable hotel"
The location was very good, very walkable to many things, convenient to the airport and convention center. The a/c was a little wonky, I woke up in the middle of the night since the heat had managed to run to 86 degrees even though it was set to 76. Got it sorted out and went back to bed. Not a lot of sound insulation, you can hear anything going on […] in the hallway or in the room next to you that shares one of those hotel double door things. The coffee maker in the lounge and the rooms were easy to use and convenient. Ordered breakfast which was good, they accepted a door-hanger for ordering until 2am which was nice. Other places have the cutoff much earlier which is far less useful. The "city view" rooms do not have a view of the city, they have a view of a canopy that's over every window. The water pressure in the shower was kind of pathetic, but was able to shower successfully. Bottom line is, I've stayed in better, I've stayed in worse. For a business trip, this would be fine. For a vacation, I'd want something better. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great dog friendly choice"
We have stayed at the Waterfront Hotel two years in a row now, on Christmas Eve. They allow dogs, and they have a nice lounge downstairs with a fireplace. We brought our own champagne and munchies, and the staff offered to get us glasses and plates and napkins, and they were all very nice and attentive. The location is great, with plenty of good restaurants […] within walking distance. This year we upgraded to a waterfront view room, and it was worth it! We will definitely stay here again! "Great hotel and location"
Nice rooms and beautiful location. The decor is nautical and tasteful. The area is surrounded by restaurants, shops and a great farmers market on aundays. Only down side is the $25 parking so I gave it 4 starsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
As far as the area, I was skeptical on booking any hotels in Oakland. After going into the area, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel had a very nice view, it was clean and the surrounding area was really clean. I would go back if given the chance.Genuine Expedia guest review
i already sent an email to the manager of the waterfront. the front desk accomadated us above and beyond. it was perfect stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Terrific location in Jack London Square waterfront"
Overall the Rating could have been a 5, but the only restaurant was reserved for a private party on Saturday evening, and there were no other provisions made for us to have a quiet cocktail together to celebrate an anniversary. The condition of the hotel is that of a cleverly renovated property that was clearly aging and in need of deferred maintenance […] before it was acquired. The hotel staff is working hard to offset any shortfalls in appearance/condition, and engaged at every opportunity to make sure our stay met our expectations. Be sure to visit the wonderful Farmers Market every Sunday morning right outside the hotel--it raised the rating of the surrounding neighborhood. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The closest hotel to Oakland Amtrak."
Staff was very friendly and competent and they offered free wine and cheese at 5 pm. It is a great location being right next to Amtrak, ferries to SF, the free shuttle bus up Broadway St, and Yoshi's Jazz Club.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was quite dismayed to find out upon check in that the hotel would charge my card $50 for "incidentals." Half of that was for the valet parking, which was fine, but I didn't see why I had to be charged an additional $25 when I had intention of ordering movies, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Paid For Upgraded Room With King and SF View"
But What I got was Two queen Beds and a View of the Pool. I was told I checked in to late even though I paid the higher price. I was not offered anything to make up for them renting my Pre Paid Room with a View. It should not matter that I was later than others to check in. I was very disappointed. But it was a nice older hotel and it was clean, with […] a great location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Services not matching the price range"
First of all they didn't honor the booking. Booked waterfront view, came in the room and received the plaza view, despite me calling ahead of time to ensure I will receive the room I booked online. Bathroom vent didn't work Hair dryer didn't work Receptionists unhappy Valet - one nice the others not so much, one of them left my car in front of the hotel […] with both windows opened Only valet parking available for $25/day Train railways right in front of the hotel No microwave in the room, breakfast not included Wireless connection dreadful (they want you to pay for a "premium" one $10/day) Hotel restaurant - friendly stuff but food quality is rather fast foodish (not the price of course) Conclusion: definitely not coming back again, there are other really nice hotels in the area, this one missed the mark completely. Everyone was very helpful and friendly -- from the valet to the housekeeping staff and the front desk staff. We will definitely stay here again. Their Christmas decorations were lovely! Love the linens and the provided toiletries. We had a beautiful view of the estuary and the boats and birds. Heaven!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Thin walls, but beautiful location"
I could hear all of the intimate interactions going on with my neighbors at 2 am. You can also hear the train in the background (but I like that). The location is great. The staff are nice. The room had a great view of the sail boats.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel staff was gracious. We received a complementary bottle of wine while we sat next to the fireplace. The valet was also very courteous. It was an overall great experience in a great waterfront location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good value for the price"
If you are frustrated with $200 to $300 per night hotels in San Francisco, this is a good alternative. It is often priced at less then $150/night. Located in Jack London Square [JLS], you have access to decent restaurants, the Ferry service to San Francisco and easy access to the freeway. It is also close to Oakland Chinatown if you want some inexpensive […] yet authentic Asian food. The rooms are comfortable and clean for the price. My only criticism is the $25/night for valet parking. But you can use the public garage in JLS as an alternative [although I did not check the price for comparison purposes]. Waterfront Hotel is an excellent place to stay when visiting Oakland, CA. I was located in the heart of Jack London Square in a fully furnished suite with a wrap-a-round balcony and perfect views of the harbor, small boats, San Francisco Ferry,, and the early morning walkers. The lobby is a charming sanctuary with a continuous burning fireplace. All […] members of the hotel staff wee extremely friendly and helpful. The Lungamare Cafe provided excellent food each morning. Jack London Square is now filled with great restaurants - we tried the room service from Lungomare once, and it was very good! Good free wifi in rooms, views of marina are amazing and worth the extra money, but the $25/night car parking fee is steep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
