It's a nice place on market street...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel description is mislesding"
Site indicated hotel had queen beds. There are no rooms with queen beds only full size. I asked the hotel about it and the blame was put on hotels.Com Site claims the beds had pillow top mattress, wrong, site claims view, wrong. Nothing on site was true but exaggerated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice lobby but has gone downhill"
I've stayed at this hotel many times in the past, but it has gone downhill. The carpet in the halls are buckling, the elevator squeaked upon opening and closing, the heater in the room doesn't heat much, the fan in the bathroom didn't work and the carpet was dirty in the corners and behind/side of the nightstand. The outlet by the bed was loose so you […] couldn't plug in anything. The room was a decent size with a large walk-in closet and bathroom floor had new tile. There was a nice flatscreen tv and the bed was comfortable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel was okay not a clean roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Historical building which is very beautiful. Staff was very accommodating, and everything is very close by. They offer valet which you can leave your car a bit after your stay to explore which is cool. The hotel has a Starbucks inside as well which was convenient, the batistas just seemed pretty crabby buy in grand comparison it pretty minisculeGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good stay. The location was good, a brisk walk to Moscone and downtown nightclubs. As a heritage building, the decore was very interesting.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Hotel to revisit."
Lovely historicl Hotel with ambiance of the early 1900s'. Clean accomodations and efficient staff. located with in walking distance to Union Square or Civic Center.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay for the Location, but not the Service"
This was a one night theater outing. I chose it because of the proximity to the Orpheum. Hardest part was checking in. I found the valet parking purely by happenstance. My greeting at check-in perfunctory at best. The clerk was puting change in the cash drawer and didn't look up or greet me. The room was adequate--one of the lights didn't work and that […] was one of the smallest bathrooms I've ever seen. And check out was also problematic. I'm the first in line as the line stretched. One clerk was working with a woman who apparently was dealing with a bloc of rooms and a lot of cash was involved. The other clerk finished with his guest and then walked away. The bell captain came over to take names for express check out and started at the BACK of the line. When I tried to be included, the response was "you're next for the desk" (!?). So to summarize, perfectly fine for what I wanted, but not a hotel I would recommend if one expected more ambiance or better service for what was charged. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beauty is only Skin Deep"
Scary neighborhood, hallways in poor condition, rooms are attractive but certainly not quiet, bed OK, bathroom horribly outdated and in need of maintenance. Otherwise, it great! I love SF and visit often, but likely won't be staying at the Whitcomb. No bugs, that's a plus!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming Historic Hotel"
Charming historic hotel by Bart and metro. I love the original look of the interior, very grand style -- rich wood moulding, high ceilings and glorious chandeliers!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for a night at the Orpheum!"
I went the day before the Big Storm in S.F. to see Kinky Boots. The location of the historic hotel to the theater could not have been better. We dined on small plates at the restaurant on site before the show. Reasonably priced, tasty, and filling. The room was average size and comfortable, although, more outlets would have been nice. (Room 409 had […] a nice partial view of City Hall.) Stepping outside to the BART station at 5 AM was a bit disconcerting due to many, many homeless sleeping there, but once I got past the turnstile, all was fine. Arriving back at the hotel late at night made me a bit uncomfortable but the doorman was still on duty and not many people were out on the eve before the storm. "a lovely place"
It is a lovely Hotel. The service is good, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is centrally located, with easy access to public transportation, and an easy walk to many tourist destinations. i will be staying here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs some TLC"
Hotel staff were great. Especially the check in staff member Roman. The hotel is beautiful old historic hotel. However, it needs updating and better cleaning. The electrical is knob and tube and plugs are loose so plug on stuff at own risk. Neighborhood has very few places to eat after 5. Good part is that at 160 it is affordable in SF.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel.. Two thumbs up"
My stay was amazing! Steps away from the bart station.. Great location, easy check in, clean room, and most important comfy beds.. Over all great hotel!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to the civic center is a PLUS"
This was nice hotel, clean for the most part. Couple of downfalls were the room was way more smaller than anticipated for a 2 bed room. The bathroom toilet felt like a public style toilet and the shower was extremely low pressure. Slept pretty comfortable for the night and had no problems. The only other thing was the $35 parking fee they don't tell […] you until you check in. Unless you want to park your car in a public parking and walk to the hotel, it's $35. I have been visiting SFO since 2005 and first time stay at this hotel is horrible experience. I always enjoyed visiting SFO but this time I was waiting to complete the two nights in this hotel and get out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"wifi signal is very bad."
wifi signal is very bad and I had to check email at the lobby. will never stay in this hotel in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good stay, mixed feelings."
Hmmm... I have mixed feelings about this stay... As a business traveler, I am must concerned about a restful night (comfortable bed & clean bathrooms). This hotel had both, so to that end I was please. The Whitcomb is a historical hotel... that has not been updated, therefore the lack of power plugs, or easy access to them is evident. The carpets […] are old and tired. The fan in the bathroom is very loud and cranky. The shower had very little water pressure. The room lighting is dim and dark. The clerk at the reception desk did a nice job. She seemed tired and beat. The hotel overall needs a major upgrade, however with the great demand and shortage for hotel rooms in SF, I do not suspect they will do any renovations any time soon. During its day, the hotel must have been surrounded by shops and businesses. Today, the poor and needy surround the area. This was not an issue but might be one for you. Again, given the clean bathroom and bed, I would stay here again... with a power strip to plug in all my devices. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is very old, and doesn't feel clean. The carpet in the hallways and bedrooms are old and the elevator moves very slow. The walls in the rooms are also paper thin--we could hear a group of girls next door laughing very loudly throughout our stay. Upon arrival, we checked the bed for bedbugs. We did not see any signs of bedbugs, however, there […] was a large stain on our mattress cover. We asked to be moved to another room. The staff was accommodating with our request. If you are simply looking for a place to sleep that is pretty close to Union Square and the Civic Center, this is a nice fit. If you plan on spending a lot of time at the hotel, I would skip this one. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close and Convenient to Music Venues"
I chose the Hotel Whitcomb in order to be close to Davies Symphony Hall. I participated in a choral workshop program organized and directed by the Community of Music Makers of the SF Symphony. The hotel was very convenient and a good choice for the end of the evening. I do wish the neighborhood were not such a mixed bag of fine buildings (Davies, the […] Opera House, the City Hall) and homeless souls who are scary and worthy of empathy and compassion at the very same time. Enjoyed our stay at the Whitcomb, rooms are small but comfortable. It was perfect for a weekend visit. Location is next to many stores and resturants. Market Street is seedy during the day and only gets worse at night, but we felt safe when we walked. Lots of homeless and panhandlers. Hotel was clean and staff very helpful and pleasant. Bed was good […] not great, sheets and bedding were clean. We would return had a great stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A for Effort! But never again."
my boyfriend woke up with some bug bites on his chest, but other than that the stay was alright. they let me stay in the room a little longer past check out to get ready, so that was nice. i found some garbage behind the mini fridge also that i definitely did not bring.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great place bad customer service"
It was food but at checkin because of my looks and tattoos was kinda felt like I was being talked to as if I should be there so I will not returnGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were happy to find such a lovely, historic hotel and so reasonably priced so close to BART and the opera house/symphony hall (easy walking distance). And it had a lovely restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We expect things to be expensive in San Francisco, but this was a surprising find and we would return in the future!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"lovely historic hotel"
Quite happy, loved my room. Had breakfast in the onsite restaurant. Food was excellent. Would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Short business trip"
Very poor area. I'm glad my wife didn't accompany me on this trip as would not want her out by herself. Don't think I'll visit again. That being said, the bed was very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Skip it if you can!"
This hotel was ancient - not antiqued. If you can work your way through all the homeless folks out front and into your cab/car, then you'll be fine. Next time I'm in San Fran, I'll skip this one!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Whitcomb = Bad"
The walls of the hotel were paper thin, so everyone could hear whatever conversation was occurring at the moment. Also, the electrical wiring in the room was faulty. Our television was non functional for the first two hours of our stay and was sporadic for the rest of the night. At about 11pm once we had fallen asleep, maintenance mistakenly knocked […] on our door again to fix a light problem that another guest was having. This was a very poor hotel. "Beautiful classic hotel, convenient to BART/Muni"
Beautiful old hotel. The neighborhood isn't the best but the hotel is super convenient to the BARD and Muni, which makes it very easy to get around from.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel; Poor Location; Flaky Wifi"

"More pomp than circumstance"
No water pressure in the shower so washing hair took a long time, plus had to get rid of the gnats before bathing. Parking was $40 a night with little to no help from the workers. Ordered a Waldorf Salad in the restaurant and was given a regular salad with not even an 8th of an apple in it. The chicken was way over-spiced as well, yuk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the bathroom need to be updated!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The vintage look is absolutely gorgeous. Courteous staff. Rooms small but doable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay was good. The hotel is in a seedier part of town with quite a few homeless people around, but it's not too bad. The hotel has a very historic feel to it, but the rooms are nice and have been upgraded to modern standards. We had a nice queen-size bed that was very comfortable. However, the rooms are a bit on the small side and the insulation […] was not up to snuff. We went in the middle of November and the room was always freezing at night if we didn't have the heater on. Also, parking is $35/night. Ouch. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would not stay here again"
The hotel is way overrated. The first room I stayed in had flies in the bathroom...and the staff was not the friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice stay for the price."
Even though it is in tenderloin, the civiv center bart station is just a few steps away from entrance. Nice hotel, nice beds, bedding etc, small bathroom, but thats what yiu get inna historic building built at the turn of the century. The bedding is the same as any other higher end hotel. I stayed at Parc55 Wyndham and comparable bedding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed here for a night, inadequate water pressure, bed sheets and a rude front desk staff. I wouldn't stay here again, personally.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"World series stay"
Told we could check in early but upon arrival had yo wait almost 2 hours. Area is near shopping snd muni but yond of homeless. No food nestby sfter 10 pm excrpt butger king. Loved the historic hotel snd bellman waa the absolute best!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"overpriced and not that great"
Not very friendly of staff and the hotel is in such bad condition. Elevators were broken, wall panels falling off, shower doesnt have any pressure, only one dim light in the room. Kind of pathetic for how expensive it was. Also in a really awful part of town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice for the Price"
Nice place for the price. Room was very clean and bed comfortable. Keep in mind that this is an old historic hotel so the rooms are a bit small, as was standard back in the day it was built. Bathroom a bit dated- fluorescent lights are not our friends...lol. Neighborhood a bit sketchy, but most of Market Street in SF is 'in transition' and has been […] for many years. Starbucks in lobby. BART/Muni station literally outside front door, so very convenient to get around city or off to airport. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Whitcomb is a great spot!"
Has a great time. Location was key. Room wasnt the biggestbbut did is just fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No repeat visit here."
The room's bathroom needs substantial upgrade. No counterspace, raised toilet which risks tripping and shower curtain in lieu of glass is substandard. Otherwise hotel is no more than 3 stars. Staff is the best part of the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Whitcomb Review"
Overall, good experience. Very good location. WiFi is WAY below par for the price - barely connects and spotty at best. Get used to using your cell phone for internet access, the hotel's is utterly useless. Fan in bathroom sounds like a meat-grinder and is extremely obnoxious. Although I wasn't in town for the WiFi, it puts a hamper on your day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Close to a lot of shopping area. Need countertop in bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I ended up leaving and finding another hotel because I did not feel safe or comfortable there. I still had to pay because I booked through Hotels.com and not the hotel directly. I won't do that again. From now on I will book directly with hotel so they can refund my money if I am unhappy with the accommodations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A classic, worn at the edges. But it is comfy for a short stay. The hotel does what it can to keep out the riff raff but the City needs to deal with the general condition of the neighborhood.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
