"Close to the city within the countryside"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
An excellent hotel. Friendly owners, enormous breakfasts, attentive service and in a lovely location.
"Loved our stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
The Mercure Oak was very conveniently located for Wigan town centre and the room was small bur perfectly formed. The bed was enourmous and incredibly comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly so I couldn't ask for more expecially for such a good price.
"Perfect spot for the marathon"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
Overall the hotel was ok. The bed was quite small and the decor was a bit aged but it was clean and service was good. It was the perfect location for visiting Old Trafford and this year's marathon course. We also found the tram (3 min walk) a great way to travel into central Manchester and with a travelcard for the whole weekend of £5, very affordable too.
"Lovely location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012

"horrible service"
The location is great, and the whole building looks fine, but the service and quality of the room are absolute terrible. The bathroom was leaking while taking a show.
Very pleasant
It seems that this hotel was built a long time ago and we were stayed in a room without window! But the price is low according to its location. Anyway, it is very convenient to go to city center and shopping mall.
"Overnight stay"
The hotel is very convenient for business. Everyone is very helpful and friendly but the hotel clearly needs updating in some areas. Although perhaps unimportant the television set is very poor quality, a throwback to the nineties that desperately needs updating especially if you are only in Manchester briefly and have no time/ do not wish to sample […] its other attractions. My set had flicking pictures and poor sound quality. This needs addressing I think. Read more
Great location
"It´s an old hotel"
Most Britannia hotels are old but location is excellent (city center). It´s a good hotel for crashing one night.

"Central to Manchester shopping"
Hotel had a great location but in need of a face lift, everything a little dated! Also the wifi connection didn't work on the top floor.
"Nice place, a bit pricey"
An easy walk from the train station (Picadilly). Not cheap but maybe because it was Easter. Breakfast not included. I had a decent quiet room and the wireless internet worked fine. I would have given a higher rating if breakfast had been included.

"Brittania in Manchester - great value"
The Brittania in Manchester is great in terms of location as it's slap bang in the city centre, close to many transport routes, shops and nightlife. Our room was very comfortable for two nights, including lounging around in for an afternoon, and the free Wifi is a definite bonus. My only grievance was that for a five-storey hotel the lifts were very […] slow and there were some empty Pepsi bottles under the bed. Very good value indeed. Read more

"Britannia Hotel - Manchester"
While this is obviously a little shabby chic and a true bastion of faded glory, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the fact the room was clean and well appointed but that the location was so good. Really nice hotel if you are on a budget.

"Britania Hotel Manchester,Portland Street."
Ideal for short business visit or for shoping-Arndale centre only walking distance.Rooms very adeqate even economy, staff very helpful indeed, printed a location map of our business contact. In house food was excellent ,restaurant, lounge,& bar. Will use again without hesitation.
"good,bad and indifferent"
Have now stayed at this hotel twice and purely for its location. You couldnt get a better one in Manchester. The staff have on both occassions been friendly enough and helpful. The rates are always good, but the parking does cost a little if you travel by car, but one offsets the other. The rooms are basoc but clean, if you want a window dont book economy, […] i have yet to get a room with a window, it gets a little stuffy. Overall you pay for what you book and thats what you get. A reasonable 3 star hotel smack bang in the heart of Manchester, Try it and see, but dont have great expectaions and you'll be delighted with your value for money Read more

"hotel britannia manchester"
Is very close to shops and town centre. The decor is dated but if you need it just for a bed I would definatly recomend it. Good price and nice hotel.
"Good Location"
Near the train station, bus stops and 1 or 2 block away from China Town. The hotel needs some upgrading, particularly the carpets in the hallways. The room itself is mostly clean. Would recommend the hotel; but with the recent price hike, I don't know if it remains good value for the money. Beware of thievery! As I was checking in, a guest reported […] that his phones were stolen from his room. Read more

"Britannia Hotel, Machester"
Good central location. Friendly staff. Reasonable package price when on offer.
"Britannia Hotel, Machester"
Central location. Friendly staff. Room clean and competitive price.
"Horrible room"
We were given a room that smelt like cigarettes, as did the corridor. It was unclean and unmodern. Light fittings were hanging off, wallpaper peeling, dirty cups, rattling air conditioning, chewing gum wrapper under the plug, bits in the toilet, rock hard bed. It was an eery room. Maybe other rooms would be nice, but after this experience i will definately […] not be staying here again, we are only a young couple and it spoilt our valentines. Read more
"Great location"
Great loction, friendly staff
"WARNING!Watch out for Staff stealing computers!"
The Britannia is not a great Hotel. But you wouldn't expect that for the price you pay for the rooms. What you wouldn't expect is for your laprtops and iPads to go missing from your room when you are not there! This happened to me. The Duty manager checked the times the electronic door lock was opened and it showed that the door was unlock (allegedly […] by my key) whilst I was out of the room. When confronted with evidence that I had proof of this he suddenly turned on me and threw me out of the Hotel!!!! He all of a sudden became defensive when confronted with this evidence. I WILL NOT STAY HERE AGAIN. BE WARNED Read more
"City Centre Location"
Thge Britannia is a large hotel and the room we stayed in was well appointed and very comfortable. The city centre location is ideal for exploring the shopping and other attractions of the city. Chinatown is only a short walk away and all in all the hoteloffers excellent accommodation at budget rates. The interior of the building is impressive as it […] is a converted cotton mill Read more
"brittania hotel manchester, all is not what it se"
when you walk in the hotel the foyer is magnificent at first glance but look a bit closer and you will see light bulbs not working and a general shabbiness about the place, away from the foyer and onto your room and the corridors, carpets and decor all need cleaning, painting e.t.c., the room was ok but the mattress was not the best and the t.v. very […] old, the whole place needs a big overhaul to bring it up to what you would expect from one of manchesters premier hotels, i wouldn't pay the hotel prices and was pleased to buy online through an agency which made the prices more suitable. was very disappointed. "The worst hotel I've ever stayed in"
dirty, threadbare carpet, noisy ... the list goeson. Easily the worst hotel I've stayed in by a country mile.
"Britannia Hotel - not the best"
Took ages to check in as not enough staff. Staff were not very polite when I had an issue. When I finally got the manager the staff denied talking to me like that. They say wireless in every room with a fast connection. My connection was barely accessible and could not use the internet at all from room. I would not go there again. The water for my […] shower was not hot at any time and the hotel needs a complete overhall Read more
"Great Hotel"
Everything from location hospitality was amazing. The only thing anyone needs to do is to book a smoking room, so you get a room with windows to have a view. Else, non smoking room durprisingly do not have windows. Enjoy!

"Britannia Hotel - avoid at all costs"
I felt very uncomfortable in this hotel. Whilst waiting to check in I saw two seperate people book in for the hour, when I went to my room I saw several "ladies" roaming the hall. My room was tiny and in need of some serious decorating. I ended up not staying, as a single woman staying alone I did not feel safe.
"Great Location in Manchester"
Great location and value for money !
"Britannia Hotel, Manchester"
Beautiful 19th century building located right in the centre of the city - just where we needed. Only bad point was the noise of the extractor fans 'whirring' all night and turning them off didn't seem to do anything. Didn't affect sleep once we got over. Liked the 1100 check out also
"The Britannia Hotel, Manchester"
The hotel is in a great location in central Manchester. Unfortunately it is tired, run-down, and has certainly seen better days. It also has a night club in the basement and the noise was appalling until 2ish in the morning.A cheap room cost could'nt make up for an unappealing hotel. Breakfast was extra and also poor.

"3 wonderful nights"
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Britannia on Portland Street for 3 nights in January. We had a wonderful stay and could not of been happier with the location. The staff were friendly and the hotel was very clean. Very old fashioned television and not many channels, and the shower was never at a constant temperature were my only complaints. The positives […] far outweighed the negatives and it was incredible value for money. Read more
As usual the staff were lovely and I was treated as an honoured guest in spite of being able to afford a cheaper room. Very comfortable bed.
"Birthday Joy !"
Despite all the poor reviews we booked the Britannia and it was brilliant ! The entrance porch is a war memorial and steeped in history well worth researching. The staff were very helpful and friendly the reception was first class and location unbeatable. we got this at a good rate and have no negative comments at all. We will return !
