"Nice, Clean Room and Helpful Staff"
We had a great stay at the La Quinta. Our room was nice and clean with a comfortable bed and good TV. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they provided us with lots of info about the city and called a cab for us and gave us a discount card. The only bad thing about the hotel is that it is a little bit on the outskirts of town but that is reflected […] in the lower price than comparable places downtown. Not bad, decent quality for the price (maybe a bit overpriced for what it is, but compared to some of the other hotels in the downtown area it was pretty reasonable). The biggest negative is that it is a bit of a drive to the 'downtown' area and the waterfront, but if you're OK with that, it's fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Horrible cleaning crew"
They didn't even clean my room and I specifically told them that morning the room needs to be cleaned. We didn't have any TP, shampoo or tissue left and the cleaning crew could clearly see it. They took the trash away and threw 3 bath towels on our beds. It was the worst service I've ever had anywhere!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad, not good"
The hotel staff are top rate, friendly and ready to help when needed. The room was spacious. The mattress and sleeping quarters were clean. Bathroom was dirty in the corners, the toilet stuck, and the sink was not as clean as you would expect. The coffee is horrible, tastes like instant coffee. The neighborhood was loud, full of college/high school […] aged kids loud until the wee hours. About 15 min from downtown, handy for shopping. Next to the local ball field, so good if your wanting to go to a game. Overall, I would not chose to stay here again, but if I had to, it wouldn't be the worst place I have ever stayed at. No refridge in the room. Pool is not attached to the building, and we were nervous to go with the local kids outside. The air conditioner didn't work well, and the room was muggy and too warm. This hotel was average in almost every respect. There were no real stand-out positives or negatives here. The room was clean, the staff were nice, the breakfast was fine, and downtown Portland was pretty close. So while there was nothing wrong with this hotel, the overall impression it created was that it was just "fine." There appeared to be many nicer […] hotels closer to downtown that I will be sure to consider seriously if I ever visit again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not planning to return"
We arrived around 9pm in the rain. The hotel parking lot was very full. We had our dog and the pet area was small but adequate for getting his business done. We left the hotel in search of dinner, and felt we were in a sketchy area. Maybe that's not the case, but it's how it felt to us. The breakfast area coffee machine was not working, causing the […] staff to belatedly bring out small pots of coffee for the breakfast bar. This did not go over so well with the several people waiting for the insufficient supply of coffee. All in all it was fine for a one-night stay, but now we know not to return to this La Quinta Inn; our experience has been better at others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fine for the price"
This hotel served its purpose, but it could have been in better condition -- my room was fine, but my sister's room had a smell of stale smoke in it. We couldn't beat the price, but I'd choose a better location in Portland if I had the budget for it -- this isn't far from downtown, but we didn't feel comfortable walking from the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable but noisy"
The room was very comfortable, but we heard noise both from the adjoining room (loud TV at 2am) and from the hall (talking loudly at 5am). Possibly the hall noise wouldn't be an issue if we weren't across from the elevator. There's a freight train that passes right behind the hotel, but the noise from that was less intrusive or bothersome than the people […] talking and the TV blaring. The neighborhood seems pretty industrial but the location is conveniently near the highway so again, weigh your own priorities when choosing. There was a Denny's right next door though. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows, the bathroom was clean, and the combination of microwave and fridge in the room without having to ask for it was a nice perk. "Comfy beds and great location"
Whenever I visit Maine I fly into Portland and stay at this hotel. It is an easy drive from the airport and a very comfortable room for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everyone was great, they can control the people that smoke in stairwells, bathrooms, and in their rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great trip to Maine"
Exactly what we paid for, a nice, clean & convenient place to stay for two nights. Shuttle service from hotel to airport was a pleasant surprise. Would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A smokey stay--again"
Overall this hotel is in a very convenient location--close to the train to Boston, easy to get in and out of. There is a very good buffet style breakfast and coffee available i the am. Quieter than other parts of Portland. The overwhelming negative part is the incessant smell of smoke throughout the hotel. The hallways, and my non-smoking room reek […] of cigarette odor. There must be poor ventilation between rooms, because when someone down our hall started smoking pot in his room, it quickly filtered into our room and hallway. Staff was extraordinarily courteous and helpful, efficient and I am ready to be back in 4 months when I return for meetings in town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not that bad, not that great. Good stop-over place"
Location was easy enough to find, though not the best place to walk around and feel safe. I was only in town for 17 hours, so it was good to crash overnight in between work trips. My room was supposed to be non smoking but it REEKED of smoke. At first glace the room was clean, but my socks and feet were filthy after walking on the floor and carpet without […] shoes. I don't think anyone has cleaned the carpet/floors in some time. Didn't have time to take a shower. The bed was comfortable and I was able to open the window, which was nice to escape the cigarette smell. The hallways are noisy, but thankfully quiet at night. Customer service was just okay. Only the cleaning staff smiled and greeted you. The office staff pretended that you didn't exist until it was time to process your room. I've stayed in worse places, though. oh, another irritating observation; no automatic doors in the hotel entrance. It was frustrating to navigate the doors carrying heavy bags. And, the front desk staff didn't offer to help, even though they could see I was struggling. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed at this hotel for one night of the two that we paid for. At 2:00 am the noise from the room on the other side was very loud, and annoying. The walls are paper thin, and the hallways smelled like marijuana. Breakfast time, too many people, so we walked to Denny's. I will not go back to this hotel, and don't recommend it, unless you are a Party […] person. Staff very friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Solid price point and easy access to highway and short trip to old port. Nothing fancy but in good shape. I liked the rooms better than the nearby Clarion.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice place to stay - but paper thin walls"
It was nice, but you could hear people in the hallway and there was no vent in the bathroom so smells lingered. I think the place just needs a little modernization/care/maintenance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Introduction to Portland"
The room and hotel were both very clean. The service was great, including the complimentary continental breakfast each morning. The amenities were all great; we had a little trouble with the toilet tank refilling just a couple times. The location wasn't ideal since we had to drive to most Downtown Old Port attractions, but parking was relatively cheap, […] it was closer than other hotels in the Greater Portland region, and it was more affordable than the hotels directly in the Downtown area. Overall, worth the price, and already looking into booking again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A bit loud"
Overall the stay was great, my only complaint was that the sound of people in the hallways at night was very loud, you can hear everyone coming and going. Free parking and breakfast was very good, room was very clean and beds were comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just what I was looking for"
We were looking for a reasonable but inexpensive place to stay where we could walk to and from downtown Portland, and was pleasantly surprised by La Quinta. Nothing special by any means, but a great place to stay for the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
Would definitely stay there again. Convenient location too.Genuine Expedia guest review
"good location, great price."
Easy to find, breakfast included. close to downtown Portland.Genuine Expedia guest review
positive: Great breakfast, large room; negative: close to noisy railway-tracks, not as close to the city center but one can walk (25 min)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a room with two double beds and were surprised that there was no fridge.but it wasn't that big of a deal. Room was very clean and service was very good, asked for extra towels and had no problems. AC/heat worked perfectly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value, cranky staff"
Hotel is good value and about 15 minute walk from the art musuem and other downtown attractions. The neighborhood is not great - would not walk there at night. Also the morning staff person was cranky. Barely spoke to us and was not friendly at all. The room could use update, some art, and a little elbow grease in the corners, but bedding was clean […] and comfortable. Next time, I would spend the extra $20 and go somewhere closer to the center of town and a little nicer. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a great hotel if your looking to just get away for the weekend. Didn't spend much time there, but the staff was welcoming and the room was clean. The breakfast seemed like a big hit, just a standard continental. I would go back. The price was right and it was very close to local attractions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great in a pinch"
We booked this last minute and found it convenient for a day in Portland. The hotel is a bit dingy round the edges but not intolerably so. I think we got what we paid for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall stay was good. Service and staff are friendly and helpful. Two big problems noise and cigarette smell. I'm not a smoker and do not care for the smell, so to be woken up to the smell of cigarette smell was very unpleasant. As for the noise, unfortunately we went to Portland the same weekend as a huge techno DJ and the hotel was crowed and really […] loud. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We have always been pleased when staying at La Quinta's. This one was just as good. The price is right, the room was updated, clean and had a very comfortable bed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Simple and pleasant"
I came down on quick notice for the night because I had a bit interview early the following morning. It was one of the less expensive hotels in the area and had all the accommodations anyone would need in order to have a good time. If I'm back in the area I won't hesitate to return!Genuine Expedia guest review
"A perfectly acceptable, clean place to stay."
My wife and I stayed here one night in February. We found the room to be perfectly adequate for our needs and quite clean. The serve-yourself breakfast was a bonus given the very reasonable rate for a good-sized city hotel/motel. I can't speak to the area around the place as we left early the next morning but it did not appear to be an area (save for […] a Dennys) that had much to offer in terms of dining/entertainment. "Great spot for the night!"
My girlfriends and I stayed here after a night enjoying the Old Port and before taking part in a road race the next day. The room was clean & comfortable, price was reasonable and close to the Old Port, the staff was very friendly, and the complementary breakfast was delicious! We'll stay here again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great place to stay if your taking a class or business. Room was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Imagine a snow storm with white out conditions, it's early in the day and you need to stop traveling. Now imagine a hotel staff that when asked if it's possible to check in before 3pm says, "sure" and is welcoming and glad to see you. This is probably my 5th stay at this hotel. They are really kind and helpful. Plus the next morning in the sunshine, […] the crew outside took good care not to block people's cars with snow. Excellent! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good place to lay your head"
Seemed a little sketchy on the outside....right in downtown Portland. However we felt safe and had no issues. Bed was great, room was recently upgraded. Good place to use as a landing pad...would not want to stay hours there.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Two night stay"
I do not look for impressive items in a hotel. The soul purpose of a hotel is to provide a place of rest for a traveler. And that they did. The food in the morning does not matter as much, as I would rather sample the local eateries instead. Cleanliness is important, staff help and efficiency at getting it down is important, controlling room temperature […] is important in any hotel. And good night sleep in a sound room is important. The only things I did not like were the slow elevator and the temp control in the room. If we set just one degree lower than 75 degrees. The room got chiller, the blower came on but no heat. So we left it at 75 and lived with it. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and plenty of pillows. All in all it was a pleasant stay for us and that allowed us to enjoy our day trips even more. Good location to all things. On a main artery of the city and only a few blocks from down town. A very short trip to Old Port water front, and a few miles from mall and other places to shop in South Portland. We would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good budgeting and decently close to things"
My husband and I just wanted to get out of Boston for a weekend. He'd never been to Portland. I booked La Quinta online and was satisfied with the price I got. I think some of the reviews are a bit more negative than the hotel deserves - you pay for what you get. The hotel was about 1.5 miles from downtown Portland but with a car, it wasn't a big deal. […] Room itself was clean, spacious and more than adequate for us to store our things, shower and sleep when we weren't out exploring Portland. At night, the surrounding area seems a bit sketchy but otherwise, if you're smart or have a car, you're fine. Staff was friendly, other customers were friendly, they allow dogs which is good to know in the future if we bring our dog. Continental breakfast is fair (they had a waffle machine!). I'd stay here again given the service, quality and price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel staff and service."
The hotel offers a shuttle that picks up/ drops off at the airport. The shuttle also took me to the UNE campus for my medical school interview. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is a close 5 minute cab ride from Old Port which is a great area for shops and restaurants in Portland. They also give you a coupon for 20% off your cab ride into […] town. The hotel serves a wonderful free breakfast in the morning which includes fruit, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, muffins, eggs, coffee, juice, etc. This hotel is an overall great value and has wonderful service. I wanted a cheap but good hotel close to a specific music venue (State Theatre) and found this one. Hotel itself is outside of nice areas but adjacent to Congress St and we were on State St in less than 7mn (walking). Old Port and Waterfront in less than 20mn. Room was clean (stayed 2 nights) and staff was welcoming. 24h front desk. Can't rate the breakfast […] (that is included) because I rather sleep in.. Plenty of parking. Easy off and on I295. I am always the one to read a bunch of ratings before staying or eating somewhere but I usually freak myself out and things end up being okay. I was worried about the location of this hotel but honeslty for the price it was fine. It was only a couple miles from downtown/old port and it was more than conveneient to get to. The front desk agents also […] were very helpful with calling taxi's and a certain taxi company actually gave hotel guests a discount. The hotel room was in good condition even considering that my boyfriend and I brought our small dog. I was worried the room might smell like dog but it had a nice clean smell and it was very spacious. The beds were clean and comfortable along with the shower and rest of the bathroom. The breakfast was just fine and had lots to choose from and was a good deal for the price. We enjoyed our stay and would definetley go back to this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
