Imagine a snow storm with white out conditions, it's early in the day and you need to stop traveling. Now imagine a hotel staff that when asked if it's possible to check in before 3pm says, "sure" and is welcoming and glad to see you. This is probably my 5th stay at this hotel. They are really kind and helpful. Plus the next morning in the sunshine, […] the crew outside took good care not to block people's cars with snow. Excellent! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good place to lay your head"
Seemed a little sketchy on the outside....right in downtown Portland. However we felt safe and had no issues. Bed was great, room was recently upgraded. Good place to use as a landing pad...would not want to stay hours there.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel wasn't too far away from downtown, but also not too far away from railway station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great choice in Portland"
Nice front desk staff, very helpful. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Location is very close to everything for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for a one night stay"
I needed a hotel for the night close to Port City Music Hall and it was about a mile walk, but still fairly close. Room was clean, bed was really comfortable. It was a very pleasant stay for the night.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Two night stay"
I do not look for impressive items in a hotel. The soul purpose of a hotel is to provide a place of rest for a traveler. And that they did. The food in the morning does not matter as much, as I would rather sample the local eateries instead. Cleanliness is important, staff help and efficiency at getting it down is important, controlling room temperature […] is important in any hotel. And good night sleep in a sound room is important. The only things I did not like were the slow elevator and the temp control in the room. If we set just one degree lower than 75 degrees. The room got chiller, the blower came on but no heat. So we left it at 75 and lived with it. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and plenty of pillows. All in all it was a pleasant stay for us and that allowed us to enjoy our day trips even more. Good location to all things. On a main artery of the city and only a few blocks from down town. A very short trip to Old Port water front, and a few miles from mall and other places to shop in South Portland. We would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good budgeting and decently close to things"
My husband and I just wanted to get out of Boston for a weekend. He'd never been to Portland. I booked La Quinta online and was satisfied with the price I got. I think some of the reviews are a bit more negative than the hotel deserves - you pay for what you get. The hotel was about 1.5 miles from downtown Portland but with a car, it wasn't a big deal. […] Room itself was clean, spacious and more than adequate for us to store our things, shower and sleep when we weren't out exploring Portland. At night, the surrounding area seems a bit sketchy but otherwise, if you're smart or have a car, you're fine. Staff was friendly, other customers were friendly, they allow dogs which is good to know in the future if we bring our dog. Continental breakfast is fair (they had a waffle machine!). I'd stay here again given the service, quality and price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel staff and service."
The hotel offers a shuttle that picks up/ drops off at the airport. The shuttle also took me to the UNE campus for my medical school interview. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is a close 5 minute cab ride from Old Port which is a great area for shops and restaurants in Portland. They also give you a coupon for 20% off your cab ride into […] town. The hotel serves a wonderful free breakfast in the morning which includes fruit, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, muffins, eggs, coffee, juice, etc. This hotel is an overall great value and has wonderful service. I wanted a cheap but good hotel close to a specific music venue (State Theatre) and found this one. Hotel itself is outside of nice areas but adjacent to Congress St and we were on State St in less than 7mn (walking). Old Port and Waterfront in less than 20mn. Room was clean (stayed 2 nights) and staff was welcoming. 24h front desk. Can't rate the breakfast […] (that is included) because I rather sleep in.. Plenty of parking. Easy off and on I295. I am always the one to read a bunch of ratings before staying or eating somewhere but I usually freak myself out and things end up being okay. I was worried about the location of this hotel but honeslty for the price it was fine. It was only a couple miles from downtown/old port and it was more than conveneient to get to. The front desk agents also […] were very helpful with calling taxi's and a certain taxi company actually gave hotel guests a discount. The hotel room was in good condition even considering that my boyfriend and I brought our small dog. I was worried the room might smell like dog but it had a nice clean smell and it was very spacious. The beds were clean and comfortable along with the shower and rest of the bathroom. The breakfast was just fine and had lots to choose from and was a good deal for the price. We enjoyed our stay and would definetley go back to this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great room, comfy bed, room was updated recently, had fridge, microwave, carpet / wood floors, new HD TV. Also had wifi, but I didn't use it so can't comment on that. Had a great stay at the LaQuinta. My expectations were not very high, but the place was clean and quiet. My room was nicer than a recent stay at a Sheraton. The continental breakfast was better than average for this type of hotel as well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A liitle out of the way but a good value"
While not close to Old Port it is walking distance to ballpark and expo center. They have a shuttle service to airport, ferry and medical center, but it would have been nice to offer some sort of service to Old Port area where parking can sometimes be a problem. Other than that a nice place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Won't make you forget home but it's fine. Elevator was busted. Location is a little confusing and possibly shady but fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The only negative note is that the elevator was broken for 2 days. I was on the 4th floor and no offer to reduce my rate was made during checkout...Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel is in a good location, close to freeway, restaurants, stores/shopping & downtown! Hotel late night staff on first night was not courteous, uninformative as to smoking floor assigned room, parking arrangements, if points needed assessing to account, etc. 2nd night staff was much better! "Inexpensive and Free Breakfast"
I was going to a conference in Portland and needed a place to stay that wasn't too far from the city center. The hotels closer to the conference hotel were much pricier than I wanted to pay. This one had friendly service at the desks, the room was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. While everything wasn't perfectly new and spotless, it […] was certainly close enough. Added benefits were free breakfast (not available at the more expensive places!) which was continental style, but you could make your own waffles and the hotel was only slightly over a mile to my destination, which was an easy walk or I could hop a bus. "Good value, clean"
Good value for the price. Hotel was clean, staff were very nice. I loved the wood laminate floors in the entry and bath area. Beds were clean and fairly comfortable. Chose La Quinta because it is close to my son's apartment. I thought we would walk to and from but the area in general is a little sketchy after dark. Also near the train tracks which […] occasionally bothered me. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Staff were friendly upon check in. We got our room and went to it and the door was not shut. We went in and everything was clean (although there was a bagel left in the microwave). We went out to eat at a wonderful Italian restaurant down the road called Espo's. We went back to our room and because of the location of the room, which was right around […] the corner from the front desk, it was very loud and we could hear everything that was going on. I think that if we were going to be staying for longer than a night that we would have requested a different room. We were not able to take advantage of the continental breakfast as we had to leave too early in the morning. It doesn't open until 6:30. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"overrated and ovr-priced"
Beware ! the hotel is located behind a railroad.. our room faces the back parking lot by the outside pool, which was quite noisy with the train passing by. the breakfast room was small,so it gets quite crampy, but it has quite a good selection. wont stay there again for the high price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Average Mid Range hotel, but friendly service"
The hotel was exactly what you would expect for a mid-price hotel to be. Comfortable, clean rooms and free wi-fi and breakfast (although not many healthful options). The staff was exceptionally friendly and I really appreciated their airport shuttle service. This was relatively convenient to downtown and a great money-saver in relation to other more costly options in Old Port. What was great for us was that the 1.5 mile walk to Old Port was completely doable in this weather and we're pretty active people. In honesty, we didn't spend a ton of time at the hotel. The breakfast was great (the one day we made […] it). My only complaint is that the whole hotel stank of cigarette smoke, and one night we definitely probably got a contact high. Not a fan of having to wash my clothes (even the clean ones) after a trip so that we can eliminate smoke smells. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good for an overnighter"
This hotel suited our needs (long New England tour on a modest budget), but one could certainly do better. The staff was very friendly and had no issues with us checking in early. The room was pretty clean, just a little worn. Comfortable bed and pillows were a plus. Breakfast was okay, basic free hotel kind of stuff. The cons are that this hotel is […] just outside of downtown and if you plan on walking into the city (as we mostly do), be mindful you will be walking through some gritty neighborhoods. We walked the city during the day and took a cab back at night ($10 with tip included). The other con is that the Hood Dairy milk distribution plant is right across the street so there are oftentimes diesel trucks driving by the hotel to go in to the plant; and when they have to wait to get in, they sit and idle on the street next to the hotel. If possibly, try and get a room on the opposite side. All in all, we got exactly what we expected for what we paid. We've had decent luck with La Quinta and this was right on par. The hotel lobby was not very impressive and had a interesting smell, so I had not expected much of the room, but the room was very clean and beds were comfortable. "Not the cleanest"
Very convenient to downtown and Maine Mall so great for business and running errands in a car. Rooms are OK in terms of layout, but not very clean. I stay here often and sometimes I get the impression that the sheets are not fresh. The toilet is sometimes only hastily swabbed down. "Rooms in need of a thorough cleaning"
The front desk staff were great - very friendly and efficient. I was very dissatisfied with the cleanliness of my room... more than once, I returned to the hotel after working all day, to discover the shower and toilet had not been cleaned and the room not vacuumed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Strange area and shuttle does not go downtown."
They staff was very nice and the breakfast was decent. Would have preferred not to have to drive in to downtown; parking there was expensive.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was okay. Clean enough, not a great location but the price was right. They put me in a room located where everyone would walk by, and across from the ice machine, so it was a noisy room and I kept getting woken up. Next time in Portland I could try another hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth the money"
We've stayed in other La Quinta, but this one was the most over-priced ( 2-3 times more than other La Quinta) and the room was very simple with very small window. The dining area was too small for the size of hotel. I will not stay again nor recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
