This motel was hidden away next to a supermarket and opposite restaurants and bars, and managed to be a quiet location with the most friendly staff we encountered on our trip. In particular Mary, a delightful lady who loves Martha's Vineyard & happily told us all the location spots for "Jaws" as well as a history of the early families of the island. Our room was excellent with a fridge and microwave, a safe, 2 queen beds, and a good-sized bathroom. Breakfast was good with branded cereal in packets, muesli bars, yoghurt, and pancakes, but no hot eggs. Edgartown center is not far to drive and so quaint even if most businesses had closed for the season. Thank goodness the supermarket was open!
"Everything was perfect at the Edgartown Clarion"

This hotel is a gem and we are so glad we tried the Clarion! Clean room, comfortable bed, quiet, and convenient without the price tag of the many other lodging choices on MV. The Clarion will be our destination on all future trips to MV.

Located about a mile from downtown, but several restaurants closeby and a Stop and Shop just across the parking lot. Microwave, refrigerator, coffee machine in room as well as a very nice continental breakfast and newspapers available in the morning. Staff were all pleasant, room was spotless, comfortable bed. Finally, the rates were very good.
"Great hotel and service with a smile. ; )"

I've been going to the Vineyard since 1997 and didn't even realize that this hotel was in Edgartown. It's like a diamond in the ruff without having to pay the higher prices that Edgartown demands. We loved the location and we loved the price. The front-desk staff at the Clarion greeted us with a cheery smile and a warm hello and they made us feel welcome. We arrived early, and we were able to check into our rooms with ease. They were right next to each other so it made it very convenient for all of us to unite with ease. It was a warm day and the strawberry infused water and apples in the lobby hit the spot. We were pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was delicious and had a variety of items to choose from including pancakes, yogurt, fresh fruit, granola, muffins, coffee, tea, etc. The hotel was very clean, well lit and updated. The MV bus stops about 100' from the hotel; Edgartown center is a 10 minute walk away and the bonus was that it was a quick walk to Stop and Shop for any other food item that we desired. Thank you to the great receptionists (Johnie D) for your help with the reservations, taxis and directions to some of the hot spots in Edgartown. Thank you! We'll be back! XOs to you all
"Mary saved this review from being 1 star"

I booked a room at the Clarion Inn in Edgartown as part of a trip to the Vineyard to do the Cycle Martha's Vineyard charity bike ride this past weekend. I called the hotel at the end of August to make the reservation. The person I talked to must have been new, as she kept having to put down the phone to ask someone in the background questions about how to process the reservation, and seemed generally confused. I finalized the reservation and it seemed fine. About a week and a half before the check-in date, I found another place to stay much closer to the ride so I called the Clarion to cancel the reservation. Before calling, I checked my confirmation email to ensure I'd be able to cancel. The email I received states twice, "Cancellation Deadline: If you need to change or cancel this reservation, you may do so up until before hotel time. The reservation cannot be cancelled through email." When I spoke to someone at the Clarion and asked to cancel, she stated that because I was within the two week window before the check-in, she would have to charge me for the first night. Nowhere in the email confirmation was anything about a two week window, and no one mentioned anything about cancellation restrictions when I made the reservation. When I expressed my shock about this policy not being communicated to the woman on the phone, she was rather rude, stating that I was told about the policy, that my email stated the policy, and there was nothing she could do about it. I affirmed that I was not told anything and that my email did not in fact state that. She ended with something to the effect of "Well, am I cancelling this or what?" I did not appreciated she attitude at all. Had the policy been clear, I would have made my change earlier. So, we ended up staying at the Clarion since I'm not in a position to pay for a reservation without staying there. Mary checked us in and couldn't have been any nicer. She recommended places for dinner and offered to put our bikes in the locked basement rather than outside so they'd be safer and dry (it rained a lot over the course of the weekend). She also asked if we would be using the safe in the room. When we said no, she offered to take the charge ($1.59/day) off the room bill. The hotel itself was fine related to location, amenities, cleanliness, etc. except that the walls and ceilings are apparently made simply of paper. It was loud! Fortunately, we were very tired so we got some sleep, but were still woken repeatedly by the ice machine, people talking outside, and people walking around upstairs. On checkout, I asked about whether the full charge would be put on my credit card since the first half had already appeared on my account. The woman was very snippy, stating that the first charge was just an authorization. She could have phrased her response better, and I didn't need the attitude. I then asked about the charges for the safe that were charged, though Mary had offered (without us asking) to remove them. Again, this woman gave me a huffy response but went to the computer to remove the charge. I thanked her and we went on our way. I saw later that she only took one of the two nights' charges off. It was a matter of $1.59, but just another thing that made me shake my head.
"STAY HERE...GREAT PRICE, LOCATION, ROOM"

We had to go to Martha's Vineyard to attend a wedding, recently. All the other hotels in Edgartown were booked solid or totally out of our price range. We chose the Clarion and have nothing but good things to say about it. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet.. We were up on the 2nd floor. The hotel offers free parking and free internet and is really just a short distance from the center of town. There is a large grocery store next door to which you can go and get whatever you need. You can't go wrong by staying here.
"Outstanding service for a chain hotel"

The front-desk staff at this Clarion went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We arrived early, so we couldn't check into our room but the staff stored our bags and directed us to a place where we could change into beach gear. We returned later in the day and our bags were already in the room. Breakfast is about what you expect for a chain; nothing great but the dining area was clean, well lit and updated. The MV bus stops about 100' from the hotel; Edgartown center is a 10 minute walk.
"Horrible and dirty"

My husband and I stayed here our last evening on the island because where we had stayed prior was fully booked. The entire hotel looks like a relic from the 1970s in a dirty stained kind of way. The bathroom was filthy with hair and mold in the tub and the toilet not fully secured to the floor. The bed linen was dirty white, including a dirty duvet that had no cover. On our last evening, we requested a wake-up call and 9:30am taxi to the ferry dock in the morning. The next morning, one front desk rep wasn't aware of our taxi request so we reminded her. We waited and no taxi showed up past 9:30am, so we asked Jon Ann at the front desk if the taxi was en route and she responded roughly twice with, "What is the situation? What is the situation?" My husband responded that our taxi was 10 minutes late. Jon Ann then went into the back and called the taxi company and from the conversation, it became apparent that the taxi company had not been called in advance. This place is rude, dirty and expensive. Don't stay here.

Here on business during the busy summer season. I had stayed at this hotel before and chose it over some other places for the price, ease, and comfort. We arrived early in the day and called the hotel for an early check in and it was no problem. The staff is very nice and accommodating. There is a restaurant at the hotel and all kinds of other venues. Rooms are nice no view, but nice and quiet. This hotel is the best for the price in Edgartown for my purpose.
"Clarion Inn: Pros and Cons"
07/12/14 NarragansettRIBonnet Narragansett RI
If you are looking for a quiet hotel that is close to all the activity in downtown Edgartown, the Clarion Inn would be a good choice. The woman at Reception was very helpful. I had called a few days before our arrival to confirm our arrival and to request that our two rooms on the second floor be changed to the first floor (there is no elevator).. She said she would work on it and call me back. Within 15 minutes she returned my call with the result I was hoping for. Our dealings with Reception were always productive. Maintenance of the rooms could be improved, however. The AC was extremely noisy and went on and off all night. The water in the tub-shower dripped constantly or water came out in a steady stream after showering. We reported this 3 times to no avail. The soap is a small, thin bar which did not get replaced daily. Finally we had to ask for more. Lastly, one day the drinking glasses were not replaced by clean ones.
