I went there 20 years ago on my honeymoon and at that time they had just gone thru a renovation. The hotel has not changed in the past twenty years, same cheap furnishings, same cheap linens, same stuffy/smoky odor. The property and location is fantastic, there is so much that could be done with it if only someone cared enough to make it better. Even the casino is old and under poor repair.

I was looking for a reasonably priced place to spend just one night. We had tickets for a show at one of the newer hotels in Incline Village but the rooms there were a little too pricey for our budget. After reading reviews of the hotels in the area, I was intrigued with the history of CalNeva and the secret tunnels that you can tour. The hotel is right on the lake and I think every room has a beautiful view. Our room was on the 6th floor and the view was spectacular! Room furnishings were older and showed wear, but comfortable and clean. We took the tunnel tour and that was definitely the highlight of the stay. Amazing stories of hotel and the people; Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Marilyn Monroe, mobsters, and ghosts. The tour was an hour long and the guide was great as were all the employees we met. There were some strange noises that woke us in the middle of the night; I chalked it up to some of the roaming sprits from the past. Wonderful place!

We're young single gals needing to stay at an affordable place and this hotel was relatively a good place to stay for the price. We had a partial view of the lake and our stay there was very peaceful and comfortable. The hotel itself was outdated and so were the furnishings but i loved the bathroom set up with the marble-like floor and big lights on the bathroom mirrors that look like studio lights. Also the rooms had limited outlets so if you have three guests staying in one room you may have to do what we did and unplug the TV outlet so we could charge our cellphones, camera batteries, etc....However, the fact that we were the few young guests in the hotel because it meant an early night for a lot of people which means less noise at night for us. If the same price was offered I would stay in this hotel again. Front desk staff was very accommodating.

Its a great hotel that is right next to the lake. You can walk to a nearby beach and enjoy the sunset without having to drive. The hotel also has a Jacuzzi that is empty during the low season. We had the pleasure of using the Jacuzzi just to ourselves. Note that the pool is not open during the winter.

They need to have balconies so you can sit and enjoy the views from your room. The service from the bar and the restruant is a little less than diserable. However, the spa is top notch! The best in town. Wonderful service and so relaxing. I will stay there again but I will not be eating or drinking there.

You can definitely tell that Calneva has had better days behind it but we loved it nevertheless. We just spent a weekend there and the room was clean, with new tiles and carpet, quiet and quite conveniently located on the ground floor. The location is awesome. I took my 2 and 4 years old to nearby Speedboat Beach, a 5 minutes walk, and they loved every minute of it. The white sand and round rocks are perfect for kids. The secluded bay like location blocks the wind and makes it great for swimming. The casino floor looked anything but happening but overall, the Calneva is a good value and I would definitely go back.

Rugs in the hotel are stained and dirty. The place is pretty ghetto. The clerk did upgrade our room, I couldn't imagine what a roon on the first (basement)floor would have been. We didn't have any interaction with anybody in the hotel except the front desk, they were nice.

CalNeva is in need of restoration/remodeling services. Not only that, but the power went out for over three hours in the later part of the evening and we were not being told what was going on, even after several fire trucks pulled up. We were simply instructed to either exit the building or go back to our room. We weren't sure if we should evacuate, but again, they would not tell us what was going on.

We were disappointed as we had never been to the Northshore of Tahoe before. The hotel needs remodeling. It was probably a grand old place in its time. Much of the furniture was worn out. I noticed that several pieces of lobby furniture even had holes and was dirty. The first room they put us in had the nosiest fan motor in the air conditioning unit I had ever heard. It sounded like a jet engine taking off. The staff was very accomodating in giving us a different room. The second room however was just a few doors past the elevators and even though there are double doors between the elevators and the room corridor you could hear every conversation going on. The night we were there, the elevator apparently got stuck between floors and we could hear the whole conversation between hotel personnel and repair personnel. This was at approximately 11pm and lasted aound an hour.

The walls must be thin because the people in the room next to us fought in the middle of the night and it kept us up. We tried to turn on the a/c and only heat came out. This hotel is in need of updating. Our bedspread had stains, the bellboy gave us a cart but we lugged our luggage up to our room ourselves which was two double beds instead of the king which we reserved in January for an August stay. It was changed but I went down to the desk after being put on hold since the desk was busy. My cousins room could not be located by their registration when we called the front desk, again they were located when I was standing at the front desk. The weather was very variable but it was warm(85 degrees) on Saturday yet we had heat when we turned the fan on so we slept with the window open to get some air flow.

This is a Hotel that was famous in the 50's and 60's. It has alot of history which was neat to investigate. Our first warning was how empty the parking was. Not many people staying there. The staff was not that friendly and we were placed on a lower floor which had a partial lake view. The room was clean and had new carpet but some wallpaper was coming off in the bathroom and lightbulbs were burned out. The furniture in the room was from the 60's and in need of replacement. The toliet ran forever unless you lift the flusher. The water temp in the shower was hot where you set and would change without warning to the surface temp of the sun and back to hot. The air conditioner when running had a metal clanging sound when running so we did not use it. Some of the rooms are having a complete remodel done on them and we were placed directly across from the construction which starts at 7:30 am so sleeping in for once was out of the question. This hotel could be a really cool place again with attention to detail and more of a concern for guests. There are MANY smaller quaint/mom and pop places to stay on the north shore and we will stay there next time we go.

The one reason I'll recommend it to anyone visiting North Lake Tahoe are the extraordinary views from every place in the hotel we went. It's ten(ish) stories tall and on a peninsula that sticks out into the Lake giving rooms on either side of the building a great view. There is also a small secluded public beach within a ten minute walk from the hotel off of Speedboat St. which makes a nice place to relax.

My family and I stayed at The Cal Neva Resort on July 3rd. This is a very busy holiday weekend for Tahoe. We stayed at Cal Neva because in years prior, my cousin was married on the 4th of July there and it was beautiful. You can see the fireworks from the rooms and decks. Nice! However, this year, we actually stayed over- not just a visit. The rooms were entirely out dated. Which left a feeling that they were dirty as well. Years of accumulating dust. They curtains were hangin off the rod, the TV was tiny and showed static in the picture, and we had a wonderful view of the lake but there was not screen on the window, so bugs were flying in our room forcing us to close the window on our fresh air. The shower could not hold a tempurature. It would do a constant rotation of very cold to very hot in about 3 min intervals. Half of the water was running thru the tub spout and half thru the shower head. Not fun. Especially when you have children. We also ate at the restraunt. Worst experience I've had in a long time. To make a long story short. The wait staff ignored us for 35 mins before finally asking if they could take our dring order, then, she forgot the drinks, and we had to remind her to bring them. She brought our meals-and of course mine was not as ordered. She got angry with me and told me that's how it was going to be. I then got up from the table and spoke to a manager. He went in the back to talk to her and she was yelling so loud that I could hear her complaining about me in the dinning room and they were in the back kitchen. He then brought me the bill-reducing the price. I agreed, gave him my credit card-he returned and they had billed me for someone else's dinner. Embarrased, he voided the transaction and told us we could go with no charge for the dinner. The final straw was the pool. The pool was supposed to be heated, we asked when we booked if it was and we were told yes, we asked when we checked in and we were told yes, but it was not. Overall, not a g
