Very smelly older gentalmen at front desk very bad attitude .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel but rude reception and no restaurant"
The hotel itself was decent, particularly for the price, and considering it was about three blocks from the Waterfront subway station. But the hotel had advertised a restaurant, which was permanently closed, and so I had to walk back to the subway station area for dinner. An older gentleman at the front desk was quite rude, despite cheerful attempts […] to change his attitude. The room was fine, with a charming, rather retro balcony, and the bathroom appeared clean, but this is a hotel somewhat past its prime. DC's Waterfront area is still under development and so there is not yet much around the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Better than i expected."
It was more pleasing than i was expecting after reading the past reveiws.Genuine Expedia guest review
It shouldn't take long for this place to close its doors. Despite being waterfront the hotel was outdated, some of the front desk staff were down right rude to customers, and the hallway smelled of mold and mildew. The room was spacious but appeared to be the same furniture and linens from 20 years ago. The surrounding area has a lot of potential but […] with construction set to begin on a new wharf area, I can't imagine anyone enjoying the immediate surroundings anytime soon. "End of an Era"
Stayed here 2 years ago and couldn't rate it high enough -- location, comfort, cleanliness. Because the Inn is now closed and going to be torn down the staff seemed to have given up (can't blame them, I guess). We are sad because it was so much nicer before and it will no longer exist. No reason really to rate them.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were advised upon arrival that the hotel was closing in a month for renovation, The restaurant was already closed down with the only available restaurant several blocks away. Even for it being convenient to the attraction I was attending it was greatly overpriced for the condition it was in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Restarant and bar were closed indefinitely. Construction all around hotel. Bed and pillows were bard a a a rock! No furniture on balcony. Bathroom faucet fell apartGenuine Expedia guest review
"not bad, but not too good either."
It was convenient for us. We met up with some friends who enjoyed the fresh fish market down the street. The price of the hotel was really good. The restaurant was closed except for breakfast. The price for that was outrageous. After the first morning we decided to walk the 10 minutes to go to the local grocery store and eat from their deli in the morning. […] A starbucks was located in there as well so we had our breakfast sandwiches with coffee. But I guess I can sum up this review by saying that in 10 days this hotel will close. The city is revitalizing the area with new condos, hotels, shops, etc. It will be a great improvement once the renovation is done. Visit the Marina area if you are ever in DC and have ample time. Not in the top 10 but if you have time, it's a nice place to stroll. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Enjoyed our stay, and would be happy to return, unfortunately it will be leveled at the end of the month for a redevelopment.......so I guess that won't happen!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location. Close to metro and stores. Very convenient. Love the free parking and wifi. Bed was a little stiff and a room a bit dated, but nothing that was a deal breaker. Lack of mini-fridge was little disappointing. Would have been handy for a long stay. My only real complaint was the lack of water pressure in the shower and the swings from hot […] to cold. "Great location, but showing its age"
We love this hotel for its location...walk to the Tidal Basin or to the national Mall. We also like its free parking since we usually rent a car. The hotel is getting old, however, and shows it. We understand it will close its doors at the end of this month and be torn down for the new Wharf development along the waterfront. We'll miss this affordable […] and convenient option. "Has-been hotel in a good location"
Although there was great views of the Potomoc River and this hotel was close to the mall area of Washington DC, it was generally run-down. I was unable to access the wifi in my room except for a weak signal in the bathroom. One of the three days we were there the room was not cleaned. However, we were given clean towels each day. The restaurant was […] closed and it was not close to decent food. There was free parking and it did feel relatively safe. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not bad... as long as you like mice"
The hotel desk help was grumpy, the room was dark, the restaurant was closed, the breakfast café had a mouse running around the dining room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"You couldn't ask for a nicer and more quite place."
They are tearing the place down in a month. There was no beverages in the vending machines, no coffee and no restaurants within walking distance for breakfast. The internet did function making my need to connect for work impossible. The staff was excellent but doing the best they could under these conditions.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Place, Needs New Management"
It's an old hotel in an interesting place, right on the water, near a boat dock. Rooms are big and clean, but the people who work there are uniformly surly. Called for a wake up call and guy at desk, told me brusquely to "hold on," while he failed to put me on hold and carried on conversation with someone at the desk. Then he quickly took my request […] and, next morning--no wake up call! When I complained to him at the desk, he said maybe the ringer volume was down, and I informed him it's not my job to inspect the electronics in the room. Next morning, in a hurry to get to an appointment. the disheveled old gent at the desk couldn't print out a receipt for me. (They hadn't heard of the 20 year-old-trend of leaving one under the door on checkout day.) After messing with the printer for 5 minutes, I told him to forget about it. The systems in this old place are obviously 30 years old. They will, I'm sure, soon blow the whole place up and build a condo there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Where do I start ... Never again"
If you want a hotel with absolutely no extras this is for you! The only meal you could get on site was breakfast & it was terrible & expensive, over $25 for two: French Toast w/bacon, Scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuit & coffee and tea. Every item was separate price and the tea was by the tea bag :( Other places to eat was 2 or more blocks […] away uphill. The rooms themselves had no coffee makers, no mini fridge, no microwave and could not get the WIFI in the room, was told by office to come down to lobby to get better reception. "close to cherry blossom"
Location was very good for the cherry blossom festival and perfect for the firework festival. 5 min from metro, 15 min walk from the Mall. Room clean and roomy. We were surprised by absent of the coffee maker and the refrigerator but downstairs you can get coffee or tea and some food for breakfast(only). The Pier 7 restaurant is closed for good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel is Closing - Be Warned the Staff doesnt care"
Overal stay was decent. However, the only food they serve is for breakfast. The restaurant and bar located on the first floor closed as of March 31st. The city bought the entire area out to create a new wharf scene on the Potomac. Even though they say they have cable, the channels were very minimal (about 10). Good news is this hotel is very close to […] L'Efant Plaza and Waterfront Metro stop so you can hop on and go anywhere in the city or surrounding areas. The rooms were very outdated, and the electric sockets hardly worked. There was maybe one plug in the entire room that worked properly. The best part of this hotel is if your room has waterfront view, You can see the Pentagon and the Jefferson Memorial from your balcony day or night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel, close to MANY of the sites in DC."
We had an excellent time at this hotel. When we walked into our room we look out of our balcony and saw a small regatta on the river in front of the hotel. The Cherry Blossom festival was going on so there was an art festival right next store. The hotel is right on the water and our balcony view looked over the river. We had front row seats to the Taiko […] drummers and the paper fish (actually small boats) zooming around on the water. "Old but convenient"
We stayed here for the cherry festival the location was great walking distance to everything. Sure there are nicer hotels for the price or lower but it was clean and good location. "Not what is advertized"
Great location, right on the shore of the Washington Channel. However, the website is VERY misleading. The hotel shows signs of neglect (burned out lights in the lobby, only one elevator working, elevator carpet very dirty, etc). and while the rooms may have at one time looked like the photos, they don't now. In addition, the vaunted Pier 7 restaurant […] is closed. I know from past experience that this at one time was one of THE top restaurants in DC. When I inquired about it upon checking, the desk clerk laughed and said "They won't open even for you". He seemed to thing it was funny that the restaurant was no longer operating. "Reasonably priced hotel in the city"
It was nice to be in the city, and the view of the water was a nice touch. No wi-fi or mini fridge was pretty surprising and unfortuante. The room and furnishings could all use some updating but it wasn't unclean. The staff was very nice.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Slated for demolition"
Apparently the Channel Inn is due to be leveled as part of the waterfront redevelopment. It is not well maintained or renovated. The sheets were wrinkled and stained, the pillows and cases were mismatched, as were the graying and frayed towels. The bedspreads were old and unwashed. The furniture is very old and the carpet was stained. The TV was small […] and elderly and the floor lamp did not work. The heating unit worked, but was so loud we turned it off at night to sleep, and then we were very cold. Even wet and dirty towels were not changed the next day, and, weirdly, one of them even had a lipstick mark on it when it was rehung up and neither of us was wearing lipstick...The glasses in the bathroom (covered with paper) also made us wonder if they had been washed and if so, with what. The advertised free in-room wifi did not work in the room - we were told to go to the lobby as the router worked better there. On the plus side, the hotel has an underground parking garage that was free, a rare convenience in DC. The waterfront neighborhood is a relatively safe bubble in that part of DC, and near enough to the National Mall and the metro to get around easily. The Channel Inn has had its modest heyday, but with little incentive to provide even some of the bare minimums, the management is just cashing the checks. We will not return there, nor do we recommend that others go to the Channel Inn. I'm surprised it still has its AAA recommendation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
this is was the second time my wife and I have stayed there, room was nice and clean we stayed in king suite on the Washington channel side, it was easy to get a taxi and is about a three block walk to metro.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great value for area, decent room"
I was initially worried because of some of the bad reviews, but overall my stay was average. Free parking and close to the Mall were definite bonuses. The carpets were stained and everythign was very dated, but serviceable. I would stay here again for a one night trip, but not multiple nights.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Prime location but horrible customer service"
The thing that stood out to me was the location of the hotel and the gorgeous view you get from your balcony (if you are facing the water). The service was simply lousy. The attendant seemed like he didn't care about the questions you asked him and did not appear friendly. The condition of the room was not bad, considering this hotel has plenty of years […] behind it. If you want a cost-effective room with the luxury of a 20 minute walk away from all of the museums, then look no further. Just don't expect to be treated very nicely. "Cheap if you get a deal, close to the Wash mall."
Although it's a good deal if you book through a third party and in a great location, the hotel isn't that great all together.... uncomfortable bed, a toilet that doesn't work, noisy neighbors, rude staff who changed my supposed king bed to a double, and an expensive bar and restaurant.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Below Average Accomm, But Good Value"
Look, it's hard to complain about anything given the price. If you're not fussy about luxury and amenities, and want to save the money for tours and attractions, or just for retirement, then you'll be fine here. It's about setting realistic expectations for what you're paying. It seems FAR away from everything, but it's really not that bad, and a convenient […] collection of seafood restaurants and Potomac River attractions from the adjacent Marina. "closing soon - that explains it"
The room I ordered (a king) was not what I got (2 doubles) and when I tried to call the front desk the phone didn't work. So I went to the desk and requested a change and was sent to a room with a queen. Wrong again! I went to the desk yet again, and was given a room with a king - but it was a mess!!! Even though it was long after check in time by now, […] this room had not been touched. Once again, we spoke with the desk clerk who came up to check for herself and finally a new room was issued - a correct one, but unfortunately by now we were considerably late for the event we were in DC for - having wasted nearly an hour with this nonsense. When we spoke to the desk clerk the next day, he pointed to the calendar and said we are closing in April. That said - I highly recommend people avoid it from now on as they obviously don't care about quality at all anymore. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Bargain price doesn't compensate for deficiencies"
I don't ask much from a hotel when the price is as low as the Channel Inn (compared to other accommodations in WDC), but I likely won't stay here again. This was my second stay. The first, a year ago, was okay. This time I was left with the feeling that hotel had given up on service and committment to an enjoyable stay. The front desk staff are indifferent […] to guests, neither friendly or helpful The room was okay, but not cleaned well upon check-in, the clock radio broken, the TV remote not working, and last month's Showtime guide was on the console -- two weeks expired. It's like hotel staff simply don't care about a guest's experience at the hotel. Unless I see evidence of an investment in upgrades, I'll pass and stay elsewhere for more money. "Older hotel close to major attractions"
For the price the hotel was good. Staff was very friendly, the room was clean, and we had a beautiful view from our room. Two metro stations were within walking distance (1/2 mile). The hotel is older and if you are willing to look past that it is a great place to stay if you aren't planning on spending a lot of time in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
