One elevator was out of service and the one that did work was slllllooooooowww! Free internet was slow and continuously made to sign in. Other than that it was good. Right around the corner from BART and Muni so extremely easy to go without a rental car. Walking distance to shops and restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location. Close to Union Square."
Great location and value. Built in the 1920s and has Old San Francisco character. Don't expect it to a Hilton. Staff are Friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel in walking distance of many attractions"
The Pickwick was a great place to stay for our recent trip to San Fran. My must-haves in a hotel are cleanliness and location, and this hotel met both. It is an older building and the rooms are small, including the bathrooms, but we didn't feel squeezed for room with two people. The hotel has been updated and was very clean. The water pressure in the […] shower left something to be desired, however the low-flow shower heads may be a conscious decision by the hotel since California is in a drought and many places are doing their part to conserve water. We got by. The hotel is close to a subway station and within walking distance of many tourist attractions. I felt safe walking in the immediate area alone, but wander a block or two towards the Tenderloin and I didn't feel so safe. Look at a map before you go and know which areas to avoid. The room and bathroom were small but it had all the amenities. I frequently had to wait on an elevator because the hotel only has 2 and 1 of them was broken for most of the week I was there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Convention Center"
Stayed here for seven nights. Older hotel but close to convention center and other attractions. Price is right for being in downtown San Francisco.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Pickwick Hotel is an older hotel that is well maintained. It is in a nice and convenient neighborhood. The staff was responsive to any small problems and the very friendly. I would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Location is great for activities downtown, at the Moscone center, and the like. The room was clean and comfortable. We stayed on the top floor (8th floor) and the water pressure in the bathroom as poor at best. When taking a shower, the water would fluctuate a lot and at times would actually stop for a a few seconds. I thought the rates were high.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
i wish we would have known that parking was not free. its $40 and the staff will tell you that we are in san francisco thats why. its not a good welcome to tourist. staff were not friendly at all. i didnt even see them smiling or even looking at you in the eye.not a friendly environment...1-2 starsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Moscone Comvention Center"
Rooms are small but well kept. No AC or wasn't working. Good location to Moscone Center about 4 blocks. For the price hotel room for one person was perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Easy access to all must-see sights"
My partner and I stayed at the Pickwick for six nights. We had to postpone our trip by one day due to a medical emergency (kidney stone). Hotels.com and the hotel updated our reservation quickly with no issue. The only thing was that dropping the first night and adding an extra night bumped the average rate by a bit, but that was nothing compared to […] the hassle with the airline. We had a king size bed and the room didn't seem as small as other reviews make them out to be (then again we are from Boston so we are used to small, cozy places). Either the room didn't have central air or it was broken; either way, we preferred opening the windows because the SF weather was perfect (in early September). It seemed hotel staff was always around to help, just in case. The hotel was right around the corner from the subway, major bus lines, the historic street cars, and the cable cars. But most of the time we just walked because it was near everything we wanted to see. We were shocked at how many homeless people San Francisco has, and the hotel is right where they all hang out, but we had no problems. Then again, we were only out and about from the early morning to the early evening. We liked the restaurants nearby like Mo'z Cafe and Miss Saigon. The hotel is next to a huge mall. Our flight was too early to take the BART, but the concierge hooked us up with a shuttle service that's $12 per person. We had a great experience at the Pickwick. We highly recommend it! We have a great time and it's in a great location. Only con was the water pressure, which was almost zero. But besides that, no complaints.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was OK, a little overpriced for what you get. Great location. Small rooms and tiny bathrooms. For 4 people, too small, we were all over each other. If it was $100 less a room it would be much better, it's probably because of the great location they get so much. Can walk to great shopping and restaurants .Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"sandwiched between Bloomingdales and Nordstrom!!"
I enjoyed my stay. The location is amazing. My favorite part was the fact that I had two large windows in my room and they both opened. The bathtub was one of the old cast-iron ones that holds the heat so I enjoyed a hot bath each night. The hotel rooms are small European style which is just fine for me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpriced and horrible experience"
Well, the room is outdated and not the cleanest. The AC did not work and our bed must be as old as the hotel. It creaked when we moved a limb. It was a complete waste of money and they also charge 40 bucks for parking. Stay AWAY!!!!!!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average Hotel with average accomodations"
Overall it was OK. The AC was dated and did not work so we had to open the windows to let air in or else it would get extremely hotel. Very dated windows and bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The service lady told me the bedding was changed. But it can be better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We expected the room to be small because it is an old hotel and it was. Not a problem. It was comfortable enough. There isn't any breakfast included but there are many restaurants in the area. The neighborhood is noisy at night and the room itself is noisy due to old refrigerator (unplugged it), old A/C unit, and windows that don't keep out the noise. "Very friendly, definitely staying again!"
Nice location right next to the subway & big shopping mall (Westifield). the concierge people were very nice. I've been to similar price hotels four times in that area and everything was either dirty, small, or unfriendly. This hotel was very satisfying in that aspect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Pick-NOT hotel"
When I first checked in, the elevator display in the lobby wasn’t working. This was a premonition of the disrepair to come. Our room had furniture that was torn, and when we took a shower, a plumbing system that had a life of its own. The faucet and the shower intermittently stopped flowing with water, something I’ve yet to experience in any hotel in […] a developed country. The erratic behavior of the plumbing system could be witnessed by anyone else staying in the room because the bathroom door refused to close. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It did the trick"
I was happy to have gotten a very decent rate for a 1 night stay at the Pickwick after my original hotel choice was not available. The room itself was small but had double beds and for a non-smoking room, it actually smelled like a non-smoking room which is heaven to someone with allergies. The bathroom had a few dated things, but the shower was probably […] to newest addition. Only issue with it is that each person who used the shower almost slipped on the slick tile floor a few times during. A rougher tile on the bottom may be a good option to look at. I was very happy that even with the small size of the room, my room had a walk-in closet. This made me quite happy. My room had an i-home charging station and a cordless phone which i thought was very 21st century of the hotel. I was on the 2nd floor, so ice was only available on 3 and 5. I walked up to 3 and the ice machine was not working, so I walked to to 5 to get my ice. I would say that it was annoying but not horrible. Great location, being right next to the Mall since I had last minute birthday shopping to do. I would definitely stay again in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"overall great experience"
Went for one night with my teenage daughter to do some shopping. The building is old but well kept and clean. The room was clean. We had two double beds and they were VERY comfy. There was hot water in the morning for showers. The staff was great. The restaurant attached, called Soma, had great pizza! The location is convenient for shopping and perfectly […] safe during the day. It does tend to get a lot of characters at night. My one complaint is the cost of parking. I think it's WAY over priced, for the cost of the room. I drive an SUV and they charge even more for "over-sized" vehicle. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wish I'd have planned sooner, but perfect location"
I travel a lot for business and for the money I spent on this place (roughly half the standard rate of five bills) I'd sure like to see a lot more value. This trip was for pleasure though, and location was important. This hotel had a nearly perfect location. The main downtown Muni stop at Market & 5th St (2 of the 3 cable car routes start here at Hallidie […] Plaza) was only a 2 or 3 minute walk. THAT part was awesome. The cleanliness of the room was at least average. The condition of the room was kind of funny to me. The same bottle opener that you'd find bolted to the bathroom sink in a Motel 6 was there, and it had enough coats of paint on it to probably pass as the original from 1925 (the year they were invented). Little things like that cracked me up, but if I had been on an anniversary trip or something I might have found them annoying because they left the room with a strange "unkept" feel. Overall, this was a fair value for the money, but mostly because it's in downtown San Francisco where the rules are considerably different from most other places. Would I stay there again? Probably, but I'd definitely try to made the reservations further in advance to get a better deal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very pleasantly surprised!"
I just spent 4 nights there with my college age daughter. I had never been to San Fran and heard about how expensive it was. This hotel wasn't cheap but compared to the "nice hotels" was about half the cost. So, after reading reviews of the area I was not expecting much. I have to say that I never write reviews but this hotel was excellent in every […] way and the location was fantastic! After my stay I felt that the hotel was a bargain even though it was more than I hoped to spend. The staff was wonderful and the room was small but everything was always in order and clean. The Pickwick Hotel really helped to make our vacation a wonderful event. I want to thank the staff and management there for providing a great value to travelers. Very satisfied in general. Really close to transportation and all types of commerce and restaurants. Friendly staff and comfortable, clean beds. Only problem was the noise in the street at night (traffic, frequent ambulances, noisy people) which kept me awake most of the nights. Even after moving to a more quiet room the noise was still too much to […] allow for a good night sleep (hence the "2" rating in comfort). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not bad for location"
Older hotel but well maintained for the most part. I had some issues with noise (garbage trucks - but that is probably the case in all downtown hotels) and water pressure (again probably the case in all older hotels). Overall it was fine. I am always shocked at the cost of downtown SFO hotels but c'est la vie.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very loud street noise."
The architecture of the hotel is gorgeous. We were told it used to be a bus station back in the early 1900's. I am not a snooty, need to stay in a fancy hotel, type of person, but I do appreciate cleanliness and a fairly quiet room. The old windows were still in place, and new windows were added in front of the old windows, some of these were missing, […] and some of the old windows did not close all the way. They had rust around them. The shower floor had tons of hair on the floor.....not ours. yuck, mold on the shower curtain, very small room. The bed was pretty soft, yellow stains on the white comforter.I am a very light sleeper, and all you hear throughout the night are people yelling or sirens going by. It is very conveniently located to the malls and shopping, but that is not what we were there for. The staff was very kind, super fast check in, not complaints about staff at all. "Good hotel, but didn't get what I reserved"
Overall the hotel was nice and very clean. The room looked nice and still had the retro feel to it that you would expect a hotel built in 1926 to have. The staff was very friendly and the hotel is located near the mall and many places to eat. We went for SF Pride this year and we were only 3 blocks from the UN Plaza and City Hall where the festivities […] were located. My only issue is I reserved two beds through Hotels.com but when I got to the hotel there weren't any available so I had to settle for one bed. Luckily I was able to talk them into bringing in a roll away at no extra charge. They told me at check in they would give me a free upgrade the next time I stay at the hotel but I didn't get anything about this so I doubt I will actually get that upgrade. Hotels.com said overnight parking is $40 but I got charged $60. Then when I mentioned how I was staying at the hotel and it was only supposed to be $40 the garage attendant claimed to not understand what I was saying. On top of that $60 I had to pay another $18 for 3 extra hours. Overall I would stay at this hotel again but try to find somewhere cheaper to park or make sure I only get charged what I'm told I would be. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this hotel a solid 8. "Amazing Hotel, Great Value"
Hotel rooms were very clean for the price. Hotel is a bit classic, but you know what? I kind of liked it! Very vintage feel, but overall great experience. Friendly staff and very helpful if you need help. The hotel is a block from the Moscone Center and about 20 minutes away from all the usual tourist attractions. There is a bar connected to the hotel […] that has awesome specials and definitely one of the better hotel bars I've been too! Totally would stay again! Thanks Pickwick for an awesome stay!
