It was OK, a little overpriced for what you get. Great location. Small rooms and tiny bathrooms. For 4 people, too small, we were all over each other. If it was $100 less a room it would be much better, it's probably because of the great location they get so much. Can walk to great shopping and restaurants .Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"sandwiched between Bloomingdales and Nordstrom!!"
I enjoyed my stay. The location is amazing. My favorite part was the fact that I had two large windows in my room and they both opened. The bathtub was one of the old cast-iron ones that holds the heat so I enjoyed a hot bath each night. The hotel rooms are small European style which is just fine for me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpriced and horrible experience"
Well, the room is outdated and not the cleanest. The AC did not work and our bed must be as old as the hotel. It creaked when we moved a limb. It was a complete waste of money and they also charge 40 bucks for parking. Stay AWAY!!!!!!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average Hotel with average accomodations"
Overall it was OK. The AC was dated and did not work so we had to open the windows to let air in or else it would get extremely hotel. Very dated windows and bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The service lady told me the bedding was changed. But it can be better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We expected the room to be small because it is an old hotel and it was. Not a problem. It was comfortable enough. There isn't any breakfast included but there are many restaurants in the area. The neighborhood is noisy at night and the room itself is noisy due to old refrigerator (unplugged it), old A/C unit, and windows that don't keep out the noise. "Very friendly, definitely staying again!"
Nice location right next to the subway & big shopping mall (Westifield). the concierge people were very nice. I've been to similar price hotels four times in that area and everything was either dirty, small, or unfriendly. This hotel was very satisfying in that aspect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Pick-NOT hotel"
When I first checked in, the elevator display in the lobby wasn’t working. This was a premonition of the disrepair to come. Our room had furniture that was torn, and when we took a shower, a plumbing system that had a life of its own. The faucet and the shower intermittently stopped flowing with water, something I’ve yet to experience in any hotel in […] a developed country. The erratic behavior of the plumbing system could be witnessed by anyone else staying in the room because the bathroom door refused to close. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location for shoppers"
Great location for shopping and accessing transportation. The hotel staff was a bit hard to work with - could not get more than one non-feather pillow and did not provide extra towels when requested. Concierge would only talk to my brother, not me (I am female). Very little water pressure on the top floor. However, the location made up for some of the […] problems. "It did the trick"
I was happy to have gotten a very decent rate for a 1 night stay at the Pickwick after my original hotel choice was not available. The room itself was small but had double beds and for a non-smoking room, it actually smelled like a non-smoking room which is heaven to someone with allergies. The bathroom had a few dated things, but the shower was probably […] to newest addition. Only issue with it is that each person who used the shower almost slipped on the slick tile floor a few times during. A rougher tile on the bottom may be a good option to look at. I was very happy that even with the small size of the room, my room had a walk-in closet. This made me quite happy. My room had an i-home charging station and a cordless phone which i thought was very 21st century of the hotel. I was on the 2nd floor, so ice was only available on 3 and 5. I walked up to 3 and the ice machine was not working, so I walked to to 5 to get my ice. I would say that it was annoying but not horrible. Great location, being right next to the Mall since I had last minute birthday shopping to do. I would definitely stay again in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"overall great experience"
Went for one night with my teenage daughter to do some shopping. The building is old but well kept and clean. The room was clean. We had two double beds and they were VERY comfy. There was hot water in the morning for showers. The staff was great. The restaurant attached, called Soma, had great pizza! The location is convenient for shopping and perfectly […] safe during the day. It does tend to get a lot of characters at night. My one complaint is the cost of parking. I think it's WAY over priced, for the cost of the room. I drive an SUV and they charge even more for "over-sized" vehicle. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wish I'd have planned sooner, but perfect location"
I travel a lot for business and for the money I spent on this place (roughly half the standard rate of five bills) I'd sure like to see a lot more value. This trip was for pleasure though, and location was important. This hotel had a nearly perfect location. The main downtown Muni stop at Market & 5th St (2 of the 3 cable car routes start here at Hallidie […] Plaza) was only a 2 or 3 minute walk. THAT part was awesome. The cleanliness of the room was at least average. The condition of the room was kind of funny to me. The same bottle opener that you'd find bolted to the bathroom sink in a Motel 6 was there, and it had enough coats of paint on it to probably pass as the original from 1925 (the year they were invented). Little things like that cracked me up, but if I had been on an anniversary trip or something I might have found them annoying because they left the room with a strange "unkept" feel. Overall, this was a fair value for the money, but mostly because it's in downtown San Francisco where the rules are considerably different from most other places. Would I stay there again? Probably, but I'd definitely try to made the reservations further in advance to get a better deal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very pleasantly surprised!"
I just spent 4 nights there with my college age daughter. I had never been to San Fran and heard about how expensive it was. This hotel wasn't cheap but compared to the "nice hotels" was about half the cost. So, after reading reviews of the area I was not expecting much. I have to say that I never write reviews but this hotel was excellent in every […] way and the location was fantastic! After my stay I felt that the hotel was a bargain even though it was more than I hoped to spend. The staff was wonderful and the room was small but everything was always in order and clean. The Pickwick Hotel really helped to make our vacation a wonderful event. I want to thank the staff and management there for providing a great value to travelers. Well i stayed one night at this hotel for leisure. As i parked i noticed the building is very old. Once i entered i noticed how clean and nice this hotel is. "If you like fire trucks"
Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean but dated. Same for lobby which needs some work. Room was facing the street which tends to be very noisy. Unfortunately there is a fire station one block away and apparently the area of the city is busy for the fire department. 3 sirens a night was the norm.Genuine Expedia guest review

Very satisfied in general. Really close to transportation and all types of commerce and restaurants. Friendly staff and comfortable, clean beds. Older hotel but well maintained for the most part. "Very loud street noise."
The architecture of the hotel is gorgeous. We were told it used to be a bus station back in the early 1900's. I am not a snooty, need to stay in a fancy hotel, type of person, but I do appreciate cleanliness and a fairly quiet room. The old windows were still in place, and new windows were added in front of the old windows, some of these were missing, […] and some of the old windows did not close all the way. They had rust around them. The shower floor had tons of hair on the floor.....not ours. yuck, mold on the shower curtain, very small room. The bed was pretty soft, yellow stains on the white comforter.I am a very light sleeper, and all you hear throughout the night are people yelling or sirens going by. It is very conveniently located to the malls and shopping, but that is not what we were there for. The staff was very kind, super fast check in, not complaints about staff at all. "Good hotel, but didn't get what I reserved"
Overall the hotel was nice and very clean. The room looked nice and still had the retro feel to it that you would expect a hotel built in 1926 to have. The staff was very friendly and the hotel is located near the mall and many places to eat. We went for SF Pride this year and we were only 3 blocks from the UN Plaza and City Hall where the festivities […] were located. My only issue is I reserved two beds through Hotels.com but when I got to the hotel there weren't any available so I had to settle for one bed. Luckily I was able to talk them into bringing in a roll away at no extra charge. They told me at check in they would give me a free upgrade the next time I stay at the hotel but I didn't get anything about this so I doubt I will actually get that upgrade. Hotels.com said overnight parking is $40 but I got charged $60. Then when I mentioned how I was staying at the hotel and it was only supposed to be $40 the garage attendant claimed to not understand what I was saying. On top of that $60 I had to pay another $18 for 3 extra hours. Overall I would stay at this hotel again but try to find somewhere cheaper to park or make sure I only get charged what I'm told I would be. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this hotel a solid 8. Hotel rooms were very clean for the price. Hotel is a bit classic, but you know what? I kind of liked it! Very vintage feel, but overall great experience. "Great location, great value"
We booked this hotel within a week of our trip. It was the "hotels.com" deal at the time and at the price we were quite happy with the wonderful location near the bustling center of Market Street. The hotel is also quite well adorned and the room had a perfectly clean, contemporary look and a great view from the large windows. The staff we interacted […] with were professional and courteous. "Jewel of a hotel in the heart of the City"
We stayed for two nights at this lovely hotel just south of Market Street. Although we checked in early, our room was ready for us. The hotel staff was friendly. Because it is a small hotel there is not a lot of staff. The concierge doubled at a bellman, but there was always someone around when you needed assistance. Because it is a small hotel, the […] hotel staff greeted us by name as we came and went, which added a nice personal touch. The hotel is clean and comfortable and in a lovely old building that was clearly updated recently. The room was very very small, which might bother some people, but we found that it is was so well appointed and so cleverly laid out that we did not mind the size. A restaurant with an entrance off the lobby serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The first night we were exhausted and had dinner at the hotel restaurant ("Soma"). It was fine meal at a reasonable price and the service was excellent. All in all a great stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great value, a really nice hotel with a European feel. Bed was really comfortable and the room was nicely decorated and well equipped: good lighting, the mini frig. was a good size and the radio had an iPod docking station; a nice touch. Keurig coffee-maker was convenient. Internet connection was fine, only one issue of dropped connnection. On site […] restaurant served good food and had daily happy hours until 7p. "Aging hotel that was a bit pricy for what you get."
Most of these comments are probably typical for many hotels in SoMa (south of Market Street district of downtown San Francisco) but since we were charged 2-3x the normal rate during the Google I/O conference for an aging hotel experience, I wanted to share them. The staff was friendly and the double beds were very comfortable but the hotel definitely […] shows it's age. The street was also very noisy with sometimes Ambulances and Firetrucks blaring every 5-10 minutes as early as 5-6 in the morning. Before 7am on our second night there, the entire building fire alarms went off and we all ran outside in our pajamas as the Fire Department showed up, came in for 5 minutes, and left. It would have been nice to get an explanation from the staff but none came and understandably they were probably getting inundated with not-so-pleasant calls from customers that day. The pipes also screech very loudly when people shower so if someone next to you takes a very early shower, chances are you'll be getting up with them unless you've bought earplugs in advance. Also, there is not a huge amount of sound proofing and if you have a child next to your room or loud adults they will definitely become part of your room atmosphere whether you like it or not. Anyway, not trying to be over critical but we payed a pretty high rate for our room during the conference (which is kinda expected). I don't plan on staying at this hotel again which is likely the best way to voice my opinion. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location, small old rooms, heavy road noise"
Ok for one night's stay if you can figure out how to get the noise from the street out of your room. I was on the 3rd floor facing the street and the windows wouldn't close (had to get maintenance to close them) and when they did, it wasn't still helpful. The room was just right for my needs. The location was perfect, the staff was very polite and helpful, and the room was quiet. There were a couple of detracting factors. While the room was very clean, the a/c was hidden and I would have had to call down to the front office for someone to turn it on. I opted not to and slept well anyway. In the morning, […] there was no hot water in the shower. The only temperature options were very cold and cool.
