I was there for the week of Thanksgiving and to attend the auto show. The location was so very convenient I could walk to everything. The Moscone Center, Westfield Shopping Center, movie theater, and plenty of great restaurants all within blocks. The staff was prompt cleaning the room and the front desk was very helpful.

This hotel is okay. We were in town for a conference at the Marriott so it was a good location for that. But, it was pretty run down and in worse condition than we expected. Service was pretty minimal. The gym wasn't bad, but there were no towels or water fountain. The lady at the front desk looked at me like I was crazy when I asked where those things were. I'd say this is pretty bare bones.

The hotel is located centrally (a block away from Powell St) and looks appealing from the outside. However the rooms are disappointing. Everything looks old: the room, the closets and bathroom. The cable for the TV seems clearly added on later and shows poor workmanship. The wifi was most disappointing. It kept dropping and the d/w rates were very poor. I'd not recommend this place. Not for the price (which seems excessive given the quality) nor for location. There are plenty of other options.

I found the location to be one of the best amenities at the pickwick. This hotel really is in the center of everything. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It also had a great bar/restaurant with reasonable prices. We only stayed for 2 nights but the pickwick hotel provided for a nice getaway.

Surprised by indifferent front desk staff (except Jennifer). Room was in desperate need of repainting as there was at least 4 coats of paint on everything. Bed was uncomfortable. It felt like I was sleeping on a box spring and it sounded like it too. Walls are paper thin. You can hear everything in the surrounding rooms and hallway. Stayed for two nights. Not sure I'd return unless the rooms are updated and the front desk staff is better trained.

The shower facet leaks and water splashed all over the place. It takes 10 minutes before you get hot water. The room is much smaller than in the pictures. The place is worn down. However the cleaning ladies are polite. Bed is comfortable. Great location...right behind the shopping mall.

Charming classic hotel, not the best neighborhood. Service was polite and friendly, elevator was broken. Sheets seemed very old, like the hotel. Location was excellent. Sushi restaurant below had fresh sushi, near shopping.

I stayed here when I was in town for a week for a conference. It was fine, but probably wouldn't stay here again Pros: -Clean. This is the most important thing. -Short walk to Bart Cons: -No safe in the room -No room-service at all -They lock the doors to the hotel at night, and you need to use your room key to get inside. I wish I had known this before I came back around midnight and had to fumble through my bag while a group of guys stood right outside the door leering at me. Thanks.

We had a terrible time with traffic just getting to the hotel's parking garage. Not the hotel's fault. Service was great and room was okay but noisy, AC didn't appear to work, no electric to coffee pot, telephone and table lamp had no bulb. Bathroom and shower was very good. The hotel compensated us the parking fee when I mentioned the nonworking items in the room.

hotel is old but you can see that they are keeping it clean . room was ok except that the shower had real low pressure , only dripping at time . the bar and restaurant nowhere close what they advertise , but the staff was very attentive .

This is a vintage hotel that has had some cosmetic upgrades over time. The rooms have had fresh carpet and paint in recent years, as well as the common areas. The king room was a decent size, and the bed was fine. The bath had very minor upgrades over time, which included replacing the floor and tub-surround tile, and painting the original bathtub. Service was friendly, and the location just off Market near the Bart station is great. I do like this part of town because it is perfectly flat, so no hills to conquer to get to the hotel, Embarcadero, Financial District or Union Square. A very good value, just don't expect a beautiful new bathroom.

This is a nice place to sleep after long days walking all over San Fran. Pros: Near Market Street Friendly Staff Nice comfy bed Clean room Cons: a bit noisy (near market street) Room and bath a little smaller than expected (dont know if all room are same) water pressure was an issue one day Conclusion: We would stay here again when in San Francisco.

One elevator was out of service and the one that did work was slllllooooooowww! Free internet was slow and continuously made to sign in. Other than that it was good. Right around the corner from BART and Muni so extremely easy to go without a rental car. Walking distance to shops and restaurants.

This hotel is situated across the street from the US Mint building which, apparently, is a landing spot for homeless folks to "sleep" at night. We we were often woken up by the loud yelling and emergency vehicles that traveled down Market street SEVERAL times per night. The hotel itself was just so-so. Only one of two very SMALL elevators was in working order during our stay so the wait to go back and forth between our room and the lobby was often several minutes long. The house keeping staff uses the same elevator so this was definitely a hardship for them as well. The room itself was disappointing - the bed was squeaky as was the door to the bathroom. The shower head was so low we had to squat to wash our hair. The cable television did not seem to include the channel that was airing the playoff baseball games, so we could not watch them without going downstairs to the attached restaurant where the bartender was too busy (texting?) to take our order until we called him over. The final disappointment came when we received our receipt and found that we were charged for a day of parking - we flew to SF and DID NOT HAVE A CAR. The front desk attendant, Imelda, fixed the problem and reversed the charge but was completely unapologetic about it. I would not recommend or ever stay at the Pickwick again.

The Pickwick was a great place to stay for our recent trip to San Fran. My must-haves in a hotel are cleanliness and location, and this hotel met both. It is an older building and the rooms are small, including the bathrooms, but we didn't feel squeezed for room with two people. The hotel has been updated and was very clean. The water pressure in the shower left something to be desired, however the low-flow shower heads may be a conscious decision by the hotel since California is in a drought and many places are doing their part to conserve water. We got by. The hotel is close to a subway station and within walking distance of many tourist attractions. I felt safe walking in the immediate area alone, but wander a block or two towards the Tenderloin and I didn't feel so safe. Look at a map before you go and know which areas to avoid.

The staff was very nice and welcoming. Parking across the street is cheaper than the hotel parking. The room is very small, but updated. Our king bed was very comfortable. The walls are paper thin, and we could hear simple conversation next door. Street side view isn't spectacular, but not bad. We came for a Giants game, and were able to walk to it. Close to spectacular shopping, and lots of choices for food.

Location is great for activities downtown, at the Moscone center, and the like. The room was clean and comfortable. We stayed on the top floor (8th floor) and the water pressure in the bathroom as poor at best. When taking a shower, the water would fluctuate a lot and at times would actually stop for a a few seconds. I thought the rates were high.

i wish we would have known that parking was not free. its $40 and the staff will tell you that we are in san francisco thats why. its not a good welcome to tourist. staff were not friendly at all. i didnt even see them smiling or even looking at you in the eye.not a friendly environment...1-2 stars

My partner and I stayed at the Pickwick for six nights. We had to postpone our trip by one day due to a medical emergency (kidney stone). Hotels.com and the hotel updated our reservation quickly with no issue. The only thing was that dropping the first night and adding an extra night bumped the average rate by a bit, but that was nothing compared to the hassle with the airline. We had a king size bed and the room didn't seem as small as other reviews make them out to be (then again we are from Boston so we are used to small, cozy places). Either the room didn't have central air or it was broken; either way, we preferred opening the windows because the SF weather was perfect (in early September). It seemed hotel staff was always around to help, just in case. The hotel was right around the corner from the subway, major bus lines, the historic street cars, and the cable cars. But most of the time we just walked because it was near everything we wanted to see. We were shocked at how many homeless people San Francisco has, and the hotel is right where they all hang out, but we had no problems. Then again, we were only out and about from the early morning to the early evening. We liked the restaurants nearby like Mo'z Cafe and Miss Saigon. The hotel is next to a huge mall. Our flight was too early to take the BART, but the concierge hooked us up with a shuttle service that's $12 per person. We had a great experience at the Pickwick. We highly recommend it!

It was OK, a little overpriced for what you get. Great location. Small rooms and tiny bathrooms. For 4 people, too small, we were all over each other. If it was $100 less a room it would be much better, it's probably because of the great location they get so much. Can walk to great shopping and restaurants .

I enjoyed my stay. The location is amazing. My favorite part was the fact that I had two large windows in my room and they both opened. The bathtub was one of the old cast-iron ones that holds the heat so I enjoyed a hot bath each night. The hotel rooms are small European style which is just fine for me.

We expected the room to be small because it is an old hotel and it was. Not a problem. It was comfortable enough. There isn't any breakfast included but there are many restaurants in the area. The neighborhood is noisy at night and the room itself is noisy due to old refrigerator (unplugged it), old A/C unit, and windows that don't keep out the noise. The people at the front desk were super.

When I first checked in, the elevator display in the lobby wasn’t working. This was a premonition of the disrepair to come. Our room had furniture that was torn, and when we took a shower, a plumbing system that had a life of its own. The faucet and the shower intermittently stopped flowing with water, something I’ve yet to experience in any hotel in a developed country. The erratic behavior of the plumbing system could be witnessed by anyone else staying in the room because the bathroom door refused to close.

Great location for shopping and accessing transportation. The hotel staff was a bit hard to work with - could not get more than one non-feather pillow and did not provide extra towels when requested. Concierge would only talk to my brother, not me (I am female). Very little water pressure on the top floor. However, the location made up for some of the problems.

At the edge of all the action without being buried in it. Room was OK but bed really creaked..enough to wake you up when anyone rolled over.

I was happy to have gotten a very decent rate for a 1 night stay at the Pickwick after my original hotel choice was not available. The room itself was small but had double beds and for a non-smoking room, it actually smelled like a non-smoking room which is heaven to someone with allergies. The bathroom had a few dated things, but the shower was probably to newest addition. Only issue with it is that each person who used the shower almost slipped on the slick tile floor a few times during. A rougher tile on the bottom may be a good option to look at. I was very happy that even with the small size of the room, my room had a walk-in closet. This made me quite happy. My room had an i-home charging station and a cordless phone which i thought was very 21st century of the hotel. I was on the 2nd floor, so ice was only available on 3 and 5. I walked up to 3 and the ice machine was not working, so I walked to to 5 to get my ice. I would say that it was annoying but not horrible. Great location, being right next to the Mall since I had last minute birthday shopping to do. I would definitely stay again in the future.

Attended event at Moscone; this hotel was everything I needed to be convenient to Moscone and to hop on Bart the next morning to go to SFO.
