"Excellent choice for museum going"
I was able to add a few days in London after a business trip so I was looking for a hotel in the Kensington area in easy walking distance to Victoria & Albert and Natural History Museums that also left plenty of money in my budget for shopping and scones and clotted cream. When traveling I rate hotels on location, do I feel safe, and is it clean. Rydges […] Kensington was excellent on all of those plus being very comfortable. I do caution you to read the description of the rooms. The cheapest room is the size of a broom closet and is only suitable for a quick overnight stay for a person under 6ft tall. I spent the money (averaged under $150 a night for 4 nights which I consider decent for London) for a larger room and was pleased. The staff was nice especially when I kept demagnetizing my hotel room key and had to get it reset. Wifi worked well, bed and pillows were comfortable, nice pressure in the shower. But honestly the absolutely best thing is the location. The hotel is half a block from the Gloucester Road station. There is a Waitrose and a Tesco Express next to the station. Lots of restaurants ranging from chains like Paul, Pret, US hamburger places, pubs, Italian, Steakhouse, just a about everything you could want to eat. Walk to multiple museums and Kensington Gardens. I would happily stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Hotel, Perfect location"
Recently renovated, very attractive, large updated bath, comfortable bed, quiet (double glass windows), Glouster Rd tube half block, bus stop just around the corner, very pleasant, helpful staffGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The smaller room was like a jail cell but we were upgraded for a small fee and enjoyed our room much better. The staff was courteous and the room was clean. The neighborhood was amazing. It was a close walk to everything.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cozy Hotel in Great location"
Overall a nice stay. Good value in a great area easily accessible to the tube. We enjoyed the breakfast and usable gym, which is hard to find in London. Staff was friendly but not always the most knowledgeable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely Room, Great Breakfast, Close to Tube!"
We were very pleased with the decor and cleanliness of our room. The only issue was a slight draft that made the room chilly at times. Our rate included a full English breakfast which allowed us to get items from the buffet as well. This was so nice to have before starting our day running around London. Wifi was free in the room and quick too. Hotel […] is a two minute walk from the Gloucester tube station (took it straight to the airport on the Piccadilly line), and is walking distance to a few museums! Pharmacy, convenience & grocery stores close, as well as nice pubs and restaurants. Definitely check out Byron, down the street, for a "proper" burger. Would definitely stay here again! The physical facility was fine and location good enough (except Gloucester Road station partially closed). "Squeaky but clean!"
Hotel was clean but squeaky floors everywhere the room & hall area. Bf was boring in the 2nd day but service was lovely & very accommodating every day. Area has easy access to the Gloucester Tube station & walking distance to lots of resto, bars, coffee shops, grocery, pharmacy, tour bus & shopping at HARRODS! hehe!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a wonderful hotel. Not what I was expecting. I had called the hotel from the states to ask for transportation from the airport to Rydges and when I arrived at LHR my driver was waiting. The Lobby of the hotel was a little shabby by that I mean that the lobby furniture is in need of an update. Our room was spacious and clean. At first we didn't […] know how to work the lights then realized that we had to put our room key in to work the lights. My only complaint was the tub, they were very high and it was a little difficult for me, but it worked out. The staff and breakfast was wonderful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Location, Lovely Hotel"
We enjoyed our stay at the Rydges Kensington. The hotel was very quaint, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast next door at the Jam Cupboard was wonderful! It has a nice selection of breads, cereals, yogurt, and pastries. We were very satisified. While the room was somewhat small, it was set up to be very functional, […] and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location was perfect. It's about a 20 second walk to the Gloucester Road stop on the Underground the the London Hop On Hop Off buses picked up right outside the hotel! You can't get anymore convenient than that. There were 2 nice pubs right down the road and a nice Italian restaurant. The Marco Polo pub right next door really needs to have more English beers on tap, though. "Not a 4.1 star hotel"
We decided to stay at Rydges because: 1-location, 2- the rating on hotels.com. Duration: 3 nights. The Pros: location, hotel is clean. The Cons: extremely rude service (considering this is London you would think that service is much better than New York - where we're from), Hotels.com messed up our booking (that's another story) and it took over 2 hours […] to get this resolved. The manager refused to correct the issue and demanded that we pay extra per night. Finally we got the room we originally paid for. Next, the beds - if you like soft and sunken mattress, this hotel would be the perfect one for you. My back completely shocked from their bed, you can see a whole on the bed in the morning. Smell - we were put on the first floor and it smelled like sewage, we had to buy candles to help with the smell. The hotel refused to do something about that. If I was to put up with all of these negatives, I would stay somewhere else and pay 1/2 of what I paid. Will be back to London and don't mind staying in Kensington area but will not be going back to Rydges. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel-all excellent-European room sizes"
We stayed July 30-Aug 5 2014. 2 rooms. Hotel is well appointed. Know that the building is remodeled beautifully and rooms are small through USA eyes. GREAT breakfast every day! Easy connections to anywhere in London from Gloucester station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice boutique hotel"
My family and I stayed here on vacation. We had two separate stays in two rooms (3 fl). The rooms are nicely kept and furnished although small. The king are quite large almost the same as in US so no need to be concerned that these aresults more like doubles with a fancy name. The staff here was friendly and helpful. We went up the street for breakfast […] ad it wasn't included in room rate for us. There are plenty if restaurants in the surrounding area. All in all, this was a good stay and a nice hotel. "Great location in Kensington"
I stayed one night at the Rydges in a single room which turned out to be a less than 150SqFt space with a single bed. With the suitcase on the floor, there was hardly room to move around. It felt more like a college dorm room. The bathroom was equally small with a tiny sink an a shelf above it that would not allow you to wash your face without bumping […] your head on the shelf or flooding the floor with soap-suds. That said, the room was very clean and extremely quiet despite facing on to Gloucester Road and near the intersection with busy Cromwell Road. The staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel does have a restaurant but I did not use it. The price of this hotel is driven by its location in Kensington, less than a 5 minute walk to the underground and within walking distance of the museums. There are other hotels within the vicinity of Gloucester Road and Earl's court that may offer better value for money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My wife and I were disappointed with the hotel. We had been in Stratford upon Avon and Sheffield and had far superior accommodations. Although, we made it work, we found the hotel dark and drab. "A good hotel in a great location"
The Rydges Kensington is not a large hotel but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in terms of location. The hotel is a few minutes away (by foot) from Gloucester Road station which makes it incredibly convenient to travel. It's also about 10-15 minutes away (by foot as well) to Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens and the Natural History Museum. This […] was ideal for us and I'm sure would be the same for other families. The only downside was that the rooms are small but not uncomfortable. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice location, friendly staff. one issue with the"
We had a pleasant stay here. it has easy access to the tube station, walkable distance to Albert Hall and several museums. It is on the pricier side, and they charged us 50/night for an additional bed for our 2yo, which I think was too much. If traveling with kids the other thing to remember is that there is no ramp access into the hotel. Although this […] is a small issue and easily remedied by carrying the stroller up the stairs, it could be improved by just making a small modification to the stairs. for folks traveling with kids this is a good place to stay as it has ample room for the child to sleep and move around in. Also the in room hot water kettle, and the coffee machine made life a little easier. There is also a sainsbury and tesco express nearby which will come in handy if you want to buy morning breakfast and or fruits. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Some good, some not."
I have stayed at Rydges before and was previously treated like a queen--not this time. Hotels seem to forget it's not hard to get the basics right: decent space, good mattress, quality sheets/towels, ventilation, light, water pressure/shower/bath space, internet connectivity, television with a couple of decent channels, service personnel. Easy, right? […] My most recent stay at Rydges featured a teeny room with a window facing a wall, a bed that literally slanted, internet that cost 10 pounds (in this day and age??), a heating/cooling system that was sporadically attentive and so loud I could not hear the phone over it, a sink so small it made a Paris apartment seem like a spa, a rainforest shower head with mediocre water pressure in a shower space so small you could not escape the water and felt like you were drowning, all BBC channels. The staff was nice enough but seemed more focused on the fact that they were full in March than on keeping it that way. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very good location, terrible room"
This hotel is very well located, close to Gloucester tube station, and has a variety of markets, coffee shops and restaurants around. The room was the smallest room I've stayed in, and this was my fifth time in London. It had a single bed, with 2 sides of it leaning against the wall. The tv was oddly placed, that made it difficult to watch it. Under […] the TV there was a small table with a chair, but it was hard to sit, as the bed was right behind it. To open the suitcase, I had either to block the room door or to obstruct somewhere else. The bathroom was ok, good amenities, although it wasn't very clean, there were some hair lying around on the sink, on the shower and even on the bathing towel they provided. Even the room being paid, they made me leave with them 100 pounds and my original passport, as I didn't had a credit card with me. Would not recommend nor stay there again. "A mixed experience"
The checkin was very bad. The young woman on the desk gave me a room with a double bed, not the "executive king" I had booked. When I pointed out the error, she told me that was the English version of king size. Since I am English and she was not, I would have been amused, had I not been traveling for nearly 24 hours. She then offered me rooms in the […] basement and elsewhere. If I had not already checked with the cleaning staff that there was an "executive king" available, I would not have been in a good position to argue. When I gave the woman the number of the available room, she told me it was occupied, and only when I told her I had visited the empty room, did she give it to me. Never in my life have I had such an experience. During the four days I spent at the hotel, I never saw this ?Australian staff member again, and all the other staff I had contact with were excellent. The room was rather cramped for two people but, apart from a small spot of mold in the shower, everything else was fine, especially the location. I quite liked the hotel, though like London in general, it was overpriced: you would get more for the money in France or the US. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Will stay here again and recommend to others. Room is quite spacious as far as European hotel rooms go and the bathroom was large, including an oversized rain shower. Staff was helpful and quickly okayed our request for late check out. Tube station is almost directly across the street allowing you to easily access all of London. Only (minor) downfall […] was when we decided to have a drink at the restaurant/bar (Jam Cupboard) and experienced a very slow wait and bad service. We usually stay at the Kensington Hotel when we're in London but I thought I'd try something different. This hotel was fine but I would not stay here again.
