Room was spacious and clean with a fully functional kitchen. Breakfast and Dinner provided in lobby/dinning area daily. Staff was friendly and helpful. Although we had to ask for washcloths each day when other towels were provided. Within a block from shopping mall and has a free shuttle to the Metro.

It was great. Some of the guests, as always, would slam doors, let their dogs howl, and run in the halls. However I didn't have problems sleeping, the location was great, and the staff were wonderful. I mean WONDERFUL. The shuttle is great- free and and straight to the metro so parking isnt' an issue. EVENING FRONT DESK LADY HAS ATTITUDE NOT SO GREAT FOR CUSTMOR. SHE may not mean but sounds like for sure. Furniture was terrifying. Especially sofa. But they provide food breakfast and dinner. This was the only positive thing for me.

The entrance to the hotel was terrible narrow with no area to drop off luggage. You had to go to the back of the hotel to park and walk around to enter for check in. The front desk had only one employee on duty for the whole weekend which led to long lines. It took 20 minutes to get directions to downtown. The hotel was comfortable and convenient to D.C. & Old Town Alexandria via the metro. The breakfast had a good variety of hot and cold foods and beverages. The staff was friendly and helpful. Other amenities included washing machines and dryers, gym, convenience store, free computers with internet access, free Wi-Fi, comfortable lobby with flat screen […] T.V.s, and an outdoor pool and small picnic area. Rooms were clean and they offered a complimentary breakfast buffet. A key positive was the free parking along with the fact that it was only a 20 minute drive into downtown D.C. There was nothing spectacularly good about it but it is overall a solid hotel. I would stay there again

We enjoyed our stay very much. All employees were pleasant and polite and willing to talk/joke around with guests. The shuttle driver we had was a blast! I was under the impression that the Metro was much closer to DC than it actually was. It took 33 minutes to get from the Metro station to the Smithsonian station and was a bit more expensive than I […] was expecting. But, it was clean and easy to use and the employees at the stations were helpful to the obviously "lost" tourists! The dinner at the hotel was a wonderful bonus. Tacos one night, grilled chicken another and ravioli on the last night. It was nice to not have to pay for another meal as the food at lunchtime in downtown DC was horrendously expensive. The breakfast was good, but not everything you got one day was there the next, so if you like the say thing every morning, be prepared. The hotel room definitely had enough space for the 5 of us. We had a double double suite. Another couple of comfy chairs in the living area would have been nice. Also, the change machine was not working and when we went to do some laundry we could only do one load as we couldn't get enough quarters for the machines. Altogether, we would be happy with staying there again and probably return next time we come for vacation to DC. Read more

Hotels.com and the hotel had some sort of issue with their systems and could not get on the same page about my booking so i was made to wait "standing" at the front desk making calls trying to get it resolved. This suite was bigger than my first apartment!! There were six of us and there was plenty of room. The food they served for breakfast and dinner was good enough, even though it was not the same as a five star restaurant. Staff was always helpful even with some strange requests.

After spending the day in DC this was one of the few in the area that had a room available . I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. The room was perfect for us I had my son and my daughter with me each of us had our own bed the only thing that botheref me about the room was thst the extra blanket in the closet was dirty. The hotel's strengths are the cheap rates available, location and transportation availability. We did not use the exercise equipment and pool was not open. There was free breakfast and free dinner (Monday-Thursday) and is convienently located near the highway, not too far from shops and Washington, DC. One of the elevators was out for part of my stay and they are pretty small. The stuido suite was equipt with a stove, standard […] appliances and real dishes (which is uncommon but nice). Housekeeping didnt' re-stock towels/washcloths on my 2nd day, but someone delivered them to my room right away. The shower could use some minor remodeling due to chipped paint. My stay at the Hawthorn was fabulous. The staff is very professional and provides the best service. The shuttle service is very convenient and fast.
