This hotel had a lot of pluses. It was thankfully not right on the main drag, so that it wasn't too loud, and we could get to sleep at night without Madrid night life keeping us up. But the small quaint side street was easily accessible, quiet, clean and safe. The hotel was kind of boutique and unique. We went for a room with a double bed (avoid the […] 2 twin beds= king that is common in Europe.) The Juliet balcony onto the alley was lovely. The music speakered into the room was lovely, and the firm mattress and firm and ample pillows were heavenly and exactly what we needed after a long flight. Sleep like rocks. Breakfast buffet was ample, beautiful presentation, high qualify and good variety. Definitely worth the reserve in advance. This hotel is easily in access of several different neighborhoods-- Puerto del Sol was one of our favorite. Callao is also nice. The palace is worth a romantic stroll by both during day and night. On avarage everything was fine with some exceptions. Floor in the rooms is not covered with carpet, but wih laminated plastic. Therefore the floor is very cold in winter. Building is very old and rooms are not soundproofed.

The hotel is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde: one nice face coupled with an ugly one. The hotel combines what used to be a cloister and a former palace. We were initially assigned to the "cloister part": not surprisingly, room were tiny, ugly and uncomfortable. We had to complain and asked to be transferred to the "other" part of the building, and things […] changed dramatically. The "palace" portion of the building is elegant and spacious, if not luxurious. In the later part of our stay we enjoyed the experience, but beware with the building section you're assigned to! Awesome location walking distance to Opera, el SOl and 3 Grand Via Metro Stops. Street is relatively quite, although the wood floors can be noisy during cleaning hours. I did not eat at the hotel, but there is a great and inexpensive cafe a few feet from the front door. We actually walked all the way back from the Prado, which I recommend as it goes […] through a number of cool squares and neighborhoods. We also arrived a 9 am and the hotel let us check in immediately which after an overnight flight or train ride was very nice. We had to have our initial room changed because one of the beds was uncomfortable but they changed our room immediately. Our second room was larger and very comfortable. The temperature controls were excellent and the temperature could be controlled very easily. We have had problems with other hotels in Spain being uncontrollably warm. We opted for […] their buffet breakfast which was horrible. When we told them this, they took the charge off the bill, which I thought was very nice of them. I wished that they had a better breakfast since it was a bit of trouble to go out to find breakfast. We met people in an area outside the lobby twice and it was very comfortable, quiet and had bar service. Not bad for a European hotel. Room was spotless, layout was good, bar was accessible, and the bathrooms were smallish, but very functional. My main complaints are twofold: the "queen" bed that we thought we were getting were actually two twin mattresses pushed together, so every time my wife and I tried to snuggle, one of us would fall through the crack […] that opened up in between us; and the window in our room was single pane and faced the front of the hotel, with two bars (outdoor seating) and a restaurant a short beer bottle's throw away. Great hotel with very large rooms, crisp linens and very clean bathroom. Very close to the Metro, a block away from the Palacio Real. The attention at the front desk amazing; very helpful. I love the little map they gave me(very useful); and the great recommendations for authentic Spanish cuisine without breaking the bank. But what I seem to enjoy the […] most was breakfast, right before you entered the dining hall you were greeted by a young woman with a very special smile that brighten your day.My suggestion is to include the breakfast with you your stay. They offer a huge selection of different kinds of food at the buffet, which means you can fill up as much as you can and walk it off through out an amazing city like Madrid. This hotel is well-located but it was not worth the money at all. Any money. The rooms are EXTREMELY noisy, you hear neighbors talking and a noisy houskeeping cart going up and down the hallway pretty much all the time. The A/C sounds like a helicopter inside the room. This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel mainly because is conveniently located, close to the old Madrid, subways, shopping areas, etc. The staff is very polite and the service is great. Breakfast (at an additional 12.5 euros p.p.) is fantastic. Though the hotel is an old building, is well kept and all services are in place.

There is no way another hotel will be better located than this one in Madrid if you are going to walk around the historic center of Madrid. The hotel is in a very great location, the staff are excellent and friendly, also very helpful. The breakfast is one of the best in a Madrid downtown hotel. The room was clean and OK, in general the hotel was a little old and the A/C was a little noisy but everything else was perfect.

This hotel is in a great location. Convenient to take the Metro from the airport to the hotel. Walking distance to everything. Only drawback...noisy in the room in the morning. Heard lots of slamming doors and other noises in the hallways.

The hotel is very elegant and in a great location. Just a few minute walk to the Royal Palace and all of the busy streets. The hotel is actually on a quiet street and is great for peaceful sleeping, except for the two beds pushed together for a "double".

Great Location. Size of the room is reasonable for European standards (old building) and a decent breakfast. You might have problems with the acustic isolation and hear people in the room next door.
