Wonderful inn -- well-appointed with lovely gardens.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very cozy New England hotel with almost a B&B feel to it. We were very happy to stay at this property on our romantic night on the coast. I would strongly encourage anybody to give this place a try.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Okay in a pinch"
The room was nice, bed had upgraded linens and was comfortable, however the air conditioner leaked and made the room damp or moldy. I left the next morning with a sinus infection! The room could have used a comfortable chair and some coasters for drinks. The bathroom was nice, with updated fixtures though the hot water only stayed on two settings, either […] cold or very hot. It was very nice yet I noticed that the lamp shade on the light next to the bed was a mess on the underside. You would only notice it if you were lying down. It needs to be replaced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ideal stay for ideal getaway!"
This is a wonderful place to stay in an idyllic town. I love Exeter, but had never stayed at the Exeter Inn. I will be back! The inn has great amenities, and a perfect location: a nice walk to the heart of the village, close to PEA, but calm and quiet in the immediate vicinity. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room, but that was […] the only small quibble. I would highly recommend thie Exeter Inn. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We were very pleased with the Inn, the staff were friendly and helpful, room was simple but clean and the bed was comfortable. The only problem was the bathroom tiles needed repair. The location was great , Exeter is a beautiful town. 15 minutes to the beach & 20 minutes to outlets. We would stay here again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great restaurant, mediocre hotel"
The hotel is very nice on the outside. Nice gardens and lighting. The inside bar area and restaurant are also very pleasing to the eye. This seems to be where the updates ended. The front desk reception area is tired. There is nothing exciting about the interior hallways and very little common areas. Rooms are tiny, which is fine given the style of […] property, but given the style this hotel seems to want to be, I was disappointed that there was no coffee makers in the room, and as silly as it seems the toilet paper was 1-ply truck stop tissue. Just seems that they are cutting costs unnecessarily, assuming people won't notice or care. They did offer complimentary coffee at reception, but I find this a nuisance ti have to get up, dressed just to get my morning coffee. They do offer turn down service, with cookies which was a nice touch. They food at Epoch, was fabulous. I was quite impressed and intrigued by the menu, and the items ordered did not disappoint. I would highly recommend a meal (I only had dinner) here. With some small changes to this hotel, clean comforters (they should go to sheets around the duvet, like most hotels these days), coffee makers, better tissue and a friendlier reception desk staff (never once said hello or good morning or good evening when you walked past to get a coffee or leave the hotel) this hotel would be much easier to recommend Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
There was a wet area on the rug in the room. Upon leaving the coffee was almost empty and little milk available. All the hannels for the tv did not appear until the evening.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fantastic stay in Exeter"
I stayed here twice this winter as a result of getting some treatments at Exeter Hospital. What a treat! It's a beautiful historic inn in the historic district of Exeter, a charming and classic New England town. The inn is just a block down from Philips Exeter Academy, one of the best (and prettiest) prep schools in New England. The rooms are not large, but they are adequate. What makes this stand out is the ambience of the property, with delightful lounge areas around the lobby, and a wonderful bar and restaurant in the center. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the fresh cookies put out at 3 pm every day are sinful! The quality of the food really surprised us, and at quite reasonable prices. The chef has to be the best in Exeter, as every meal we had was delicious. A nice touch are small and large options for apps and entrees. More people from the local area should frequent this restaurant (called Epoch). We were here in February and March, and the room rates were an incredible value, as good as at the local Hampton Inn, but with so much more service and ambience. I know the rates go up in the "high" season, but i definitely recommend this as a treat to yourself.
"Why I love the Exeter Inn."

I have stayed at the Exeter Inn many times. Though there are many other options to choose from, I keep returning to the Exeter Inn for many reasons. First, the staff is wonderful. They are friendly and always remember my name and my favorite room. Second, the rooms are lovely with period details and comfortable beds. Finally, the food is fantastic including everything from creative dishes in the main dining room to a top-notch bar menu, including the most delicious lobster rolls I have ever had.
"Great winter getaway"

We stayed her in February 2015 after a nearby wedding. We needed three rooms for 6 adults. The rooms were cozy but not too small and we were given one upgrade to two double beds at no cost when one part of our group needed separate beds. Turndown service was a nice extra and the bedside chocolates were a nice surprise. The bar and lobby are terrific for a nightcap and to read the Sunday paper by the fire. Brunch was also great. Price was very reasonable given all of the amenities and attention we got. would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the Exeter Inn for three nights in November 2014 and had a wonderful stay! Our room was clean, bright and nicely furnished. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They have fresh cookies every night and they were delicious!! The cookies were a very nice treat and something I won't forget. We had three meals at Epoch and the service, food, cocktails, and beer were very good. I tried a lobster roll for the first time and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had! I would highly recommend the Exeter Inn and Epoch!

I stayed here because the company booked this room for me. I loved my stay. The room was so cute and clean! The only thing that could improve is the hot water, could have been hotter, but it was still fine. I ate at the hotel restaurant and it was so good as well. Would come back for sure for a pleasure trip.
"Great stay in a great town"
It was our (wife and myself) first time to Exeter and we were so impressed and intoxicated with this lovely little town. We didn't plan on staying but found the Exeter Inn, had a drink from their cocktail menu, a bight to eat and ended up booking a room! The Bartender was having such a blast proudly telling us about their signature cocktails and great food that we just couldn't leave. Thanks for introducing us to Exeter and making us feel at home. We will be back (maybe when it's a bit warmer).

I am writing mostly to praise the Exeter Inn's marvelous and helpful staff. They are exceptional in every way. I stayed at the Inn the weekend before Christmas this year; the place was beautifully decorated and appointed. The lobby also smelled heavenly, full of the season. I had brunch in the restaurant -- it was excellent -- and the cookies delivered with turn-down service were very welcoming and entirely delicious. I was lodged by the elevator (room 222), but I didn't hear it; in fact I didn't hear anything or anyone. The reason I'm giving the place only four stars is that my room, while attractive, had a musty smell I couldn't quite chase away, even by cracking the windows: I think the bathroom lacks proper ventilation and so the humidity may have spread and gotten into the rug, etc. Or perhaps their mops and the products used need updating. The shower also needs a bit of updating, and the cable options offered on the TV didn't include HBO or any movie channels, which was good on the whole: caused me to read. I would gladly go back. I do have quite a sensitive nose.

A new years eve wedding brought me here, and it was great. The room was larger than I expected, and very clean. It had details that reminded you that you were in a New Hampshire Inn but was still very comfortable and let you know you were in 2015. The staff at check-in, the wedding and the bar afterwards were all outstanding. No complaints all around and I hope my travels take me here again in the future.
"Wedding and stayover"

This was a hidden gem. My daughter had her wedding reception at the Inn on New Years Eve. It went beyond our expectation. The food was outstanding. The service was beyond expectations. They were extremely accommodating in every aspect. The Wedding coordinator could not have done more for us. The Bar Manager was also a joy to work with. We have received a lot of great feedback from many of the guests that attended the reception - it was all positive. Would recommend to anyone looking for outstanding food, service and overall experience.
"Quaint Charm with Modern Amenities"
12/03/14 Joanne M Groton, Connecticut
From arrival to departure, this establishment understands customer service. The staff was genuinely friendly, my room was clean, and the location was quiet (yet very convenient). Beautifully decorated. AWESOME restaurant and bar!!! My room (the European Queen) was lovely, and I happened to check in just as the fresh chocolate chip cookies were delivered. (yum!) The bed was very comfortable (I know this is a very personal opinion). And I LOVED that they have sheets on both sides of the blanket so I'm not dealing with a blanket that might not be washed after every guest. Plenty of storage space with a generous closet, and a large chest of drawers, The room also included a large desk, and an oversized chair, and a perfectly sized flat screen TV. The bathroom is perfect for one person to get ready. If 2 people are trying to get ready at the same time, there isn't enough counter and/or mirror space, but the coolness factor of the vessel sink integrated into the early century design made it easy to overlook (since I was traveling as a single). The shower was built into the eaves of the original building so it had a slanted top. I'm only 5"5' so no problem for me. Anybody over 6' might not want this particular room. All fixtures were spotlessly cleaned. My room happened to be right next to the elevator. I always cringe when this happens and usually ask for another room. I was really tired and decided to 'suck it up' and just stay there. Well, I didn't hear a peep from the elevator. Not even once! I also did not hear any noises from any other rooms either. I would definitely come back if I am in the area. Actually, I might even have to plan a trip just so I can stay here again (and take advantage of the town's super cute shopping area.) And to put icing on the cake, I had submitted a written review upon my departure, and received a personalized email from the VP of Operations. Now, that's class!
