It was very nice yet I noticed that the lamp shade on the light next to the bed was a mess on the underside. You would only notice it if you were lying down. It needs to be replaced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel but needs some TLC"
The hotel was beautiful and charming but was in need of room repairs (at least the one I was in) Wallpaper pealing, not just a corner, and water was rusty even after running it for a long time. Generally clean just in need of repairs. The staff was fantastic and the drinks at the lounge were crafted works of art and plentiful! If they put a bit of TLC […] in the rooms the place would be perfect! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Exeter Inn in a lovely town in New Hampshire"
This was an especially lovely Inn. The room was absolutely beautiful and extremely clean. We were upgraded from a king to a king suite which was a very generous surprise! We tried the cocktail lounge, which was great and had some unusual house specialties. There were freshly baked cookies at the front desk. The Inn also offers an evening turndown service, […] which was another wonderful touch (again, fresh cookies). And, finally the complementary coffee in oversized mugs at the desk in the morning was a very welcome treat. We went to the Inn's brunch and it was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced! All in all, a real treat! We would definitely go back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cramped room with a view"
The Exeter Inn is a nice place, but the room we stayed at was almost comically small. It lacked a dresser and all but the smallest table. A queen-sized bed took up nearly the entire space. The bathroom was so small that you had to tuck yourself into the corner to close the door and the there was virtually no counter space in there. It's an old hotel, […] and my guess is there is little they can do on the size of some rooms, but they ought not to be renting those to two people. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We came here for my wife's birthday and loved it. 0 complaints or concerns. We were even upgraded to a suite so that we'd have a place to store our bicycles. Turn down service had chocolate chip cookies....better than chocolate. As a surprise, we hit town to find the Exeter UFO Festival there at the same time.......Take it where you will. Will (not […] "would"...WILL) stay there again. Couldn't be happier. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A good night's stay."
We enjoyed the one night's stay while we were there for the Seafood Festival in Hampton beach. It was easy to get to, the bed was comfortable, the room was nice but small. I thought rates for the room was a little on the expensive side. Also there was only one robe and 1 pair of slippers, what about if there's two people staying in the room. Also slippers […] should be washed and changed from guest to guest, just a suggestion. Other than that we enjoyed our one night stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Exeter Inn -- small junior suites"
These rooms are very small. I am a thin guy, but I couldn't even sit at the desk without moving the bed backwards by 12". Also, be warned that the hotel uses hot water radiator heat. Great during the winter, I'm sure, but until they turn on their heating system, the rooms are cold during cool late summer/fall evenings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Exeter Inn in NH"
Very nice Inn but the room was very small. Hardly had room to walk around the bed. This was a big negative in our eyes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old Maid Rejuvenated"
This is a great old hotel made new. Everything is renewed while keeping the good old bones. Almost across from the Phillips Exeter School is a great place to stay for visiting family. Rooms are on the small side (ours was a junior queen, requiring some tight navigation around the bed) but very well appointed with good quality furniture and flat screen […] TV plus free and fast wifi. Bathroom is modern with small but well utilized space and lots ot towels. There was even a good size table if one needed work space. The bar is a great space for meeting old locals and for a quick dinner and drinks. Breakfast, while not included was reasonably priced and of exceptional quality. "Ideal stay for ideal getaway!"
This is a wonderful place to stay in an idyllic town. I love Exeter, but had never stayed at the Exeter Inn. I will be back! The inn has great amenities, and a perfect location: a nice walk to the heart of the village, close to PEA, but calm and quiet in the immediate vicinity. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room, but that was […] the only small quibble. I would highly recommend thie Exeter Inn. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We were very pleased with the Inn, the staff were friendly and helpful, room was simple but clean and the bed was comfortable. The only problem was the bathroom tiles needed repair. The location was great , Exeter is a beautiful town. 15 minutes to the beach & 20 minutes to outlets. We would stay here again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great restaurant, mediocre hotel"
The hotel is very nice on the outside. Nice gardens and lighting. The inside bar area and restaurant are also very pleasing to the eye. This seems to be where the updates ended. The front desk reception area is tired. There is nothing exciting about the interior hallways and very little common areas. Rooms are tiny, which is fine given the style of […] property, but given the style this hotel seems to want to be, I was disappointed that there was no coffee makers in the room, and as silly as it seems the toilet paper was 1-ply truck stop tissue. Just seems that they are cutting costs unnecessarily, assuming people won't notice or care. They did offer complimentary coffee at reception, but I find this a nuisance ti have to get up, dressed just to get my morning coffee. They do offer turn down service, with cookies which was a nice touch. They food at Epoch, was fabulous. I was quite impressed and intrigued by the menu, and the items ordered did not disappoint. I would highly recommend a meal (I only had dinner) here. With some small changes to this hotel, clean comforters (they should go to sheets around the duvet, like most hotels these days), coffee makers, better tissue and a friendlier reception desk staff (never once said hello or good morning or good evening when you walked past to get a coffee or leave the hotel) this hotel would be much easier to recommend Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"a wonderful place to unwind"
08/24/14 Mybaxter Somers, New York
Heading home to New York after a week in Maine, we wanted to find a small town about half way home, to explore and stay overnight. We considered Portsmouth but decided against a busy city. Exeter is a charming town, full of history and of course the home of Philips Exeter Academy. We booked a night at the Inn and requested a quiet room. Brianna at the Inn was most helpful and our room was very quiet and lovely. (rm 340). The bed was so comfy and the pillows incredibly comfortable. We opted for the bed and breakfast option. It was a good choice. Breakfast was delicious and service prompt. The Inn is elegant and very handsome. We spent the evening and next morning wandering around the campus and town. We will definitely return for a longer stay.
"Quiet spot in lovely town"

This is a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the sea shore, but close enough to get there easily. The staff is wonderful, parking is close by, and the room is wonderfully outfitted. The Inn has been refurbished, but still retains historical charm, including the old numbers on the room doors. The bar is lovely and there is a tea/snack service every afternoon. We really enjoyed our evening there.

Spent two very comfortable nights at the Exeter Inn. Everyone there was helpful and charming and it was an ideal location. The room was spacious and clean and we had delicious meals on both the evenings. When we are on holiday we like to get up and go, and we found the breakfast service was a little slow so went to the local bakery on the second morning so we could eat and run. Would definitely stay there again as it was a great location.

My friend and I were traveling the East Coast without reservations. We happened to find the Exeter Inn on an Internet search through tripadvisor. What a lovely treat! From the staff, to the room, to the delicious food, we could not have been happier. We had THE best lobster roll of our coastal Maine trip at the Exeter Inn. And breakfast was just as high quality- the blueberry stuffed french toast was excellent.
"Beautiful Property, Perfect Location!"
07/28/14 Ariel F Orlando, Florida
I recently stayed at the Exeter Inn for two nights while in town for a business trip. The pictures of the property do not even do it justice! It is so beautiful and within walking distance to downtown Exeter, where you can find adorable shops that line the streets. We arrived late and were so excited to find that they have freshly baked cookies at the front desk each night. We were very impressed at the cleanliness of the Inn and the extremely friendly staff members. It was very convenient to walk down the next morning for our conference in their large conference space. We had an amazing lunch as well which was prepared by the Inn's restaurant. Overall, the experience was great and I am looking forward to future trips to Exeter so I can stay at this property again!
"A great stay"

Our first visit to the Exeter Inn met all our expectations and then some. Our room was completely satisfactory with very adequate but not overwhelming space, a very comfortable bed, and good light for reading (a rare amenity nowadays). The only drawback was a bathroom so tiny that one had to slip between the toilet and the sink to close the door! But having got used to that, everything was fine. The bar and dining room are beautifully appointed, drinks are generous, and the food is delicious, beautifully prepared, and served with class and style. Among the specials that night was an outstanding gazpacho. Upon my wife's mentioning how taken she was with it, George, the general manager, asked sous-chef Ben to visit our table to accept our compliments. He promised to keep some for us for the next day's lunch, and was as good as his word. Lauren and Julie behind the front desk were warm, welcoming, gracious and brilliantly helpful. We will make this our go-to accommodation whenever we're in Exeter.

My boyfriend and I had been feeling pretty stressed about the fast approaching purchase of our first home. So we decided to slip away for a night. I booked it through Priceline and I'm never sure what kind of place you'll get. The pictures were nice, so we arrived expecting something so-so. This place is gorgeous! I mean...it's so beautiful inside and out. If you're looking for something historic, comfortable and well kept then this is the place for you. The front desk staff was friendly, but my boyfriend and I couldn't help but LOVE this sweet housekeeping lady who was fixing up our floor. She is the reason we will keep coming back. The rooms were small, but not suffocating. They were clean, comfortable and the bathroom was very nice in all-white. Maybe not ideal for a family, but this was perfect for a couple. We definitely believe that there should be a "Frequent Exeter Inn Flyer Card". Thank you guys!

Stayed five days for a conference, enjoying the close proximity to the center of town, the congenial staff and quality appointments. Quiet building--it had a lot of people staying in it while I was there, but one could hardly tell. Easy decision to stay here next time I come back.

Stayed here the weekend of June 13th. It is within a 10 minute walking distance of the train and downtown, so did not need a car! The room was very cozy (Standard queen) but quaint. Shower and water pressure were strong. The TV had a ton of channels, much more than a standard hotel. would stay here again. Has that quaint historic New England charm. LGBT Friendly, as well.

I was in Exeter to visit some friends and we stayed at the Exeter Inn. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Wonderful experience! I would definitely come back to the Exeter Inn! Great rooms, lovely restaurant, and overall good time!
