"Very Accommodating"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
The stay was great. The hotel was very accommodating with switching our room when we entered and their was a unpleasant smoke smell. Great spot, right next to the mall and close to downtown Manchester.

"Exeter Exceptional-A True Oasis in New Hampshire"
Exeter Inn gets an A+ from me. There was nothing but great service, great restaurant, bar, lobby, and room. The staff made us feel like we were visiting old friends and couldn't do enough to make our stay a memorable one. The local small town was just so quaint and charming, and at the same time, offered nearly every thing we needed. The people we met […] in town were warm and helpful. We will stay at the Exeter Inn on our future trips to visit our family and friends in New Hampshire. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great escape"
You will love this place as a get-away from the hustle of the owrld - Plenty of shops and plenty of art galleries abound- porstmouth nh is close by for music and more dining the inn is very comfortable and unique with the academy nearby for great walking pathsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and Relaxing"
This hotel is clearly an old building, but it has all the modern conveniences (flat screen tv, free wi-fi, etc.). It's the little extra touches they do that make it so special. Such as a cozy terry robe and slippers in the closet and home-made cookies delivered to your room in the evening and turn-down service. Our room was quite small so I would probably […] upgrade when we go again. Since it was only my husband and myself and 2 nights, it was just fine though. I would recommend to family and friends! "Suberb except for restaurant"
We loved the inn. Our room was very nice, clean, bed super comfortable, digital thermostat, cookies waiting for us on arrival, really really nice. My only complaint is that we went to the restaurant for sunday brunch and it took so long that we decided to leave before we even had the chance to order (which was after about 15 minutes of sitting there, […] no exaggeration, while the waitress and hostess talked among themselves). they also did not even notice that we were leaving....other than that, it was excellent. "Charming hotel!"
The place to stay in the biutiful city of Exeter, NH. The Jr Queen Room was a bit small but the charm of this historical (and hopefully renovated) hotel made it a great experience. We will come back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fishing Trip to NH"
Sadly, I was very dissappointed with this hotel. The rooms were not clean (floors in bathroom were filthy, hair in shower drain). The hotel needs serious renovation. The carpets smell of mildew, there was very little counter space available in the bathroom, and there were no screens on three of the 4 windows in our room. Lastly, the wallpaper was peeling […] in the bathroom, and there was cracked and broken tiles in the shower. The hotel front desk/ and housekeeping service was lacking. We asked for towels and never received them (there was only one set of towels in the bathroom for two adults. There were a couple positive aspects about the hotel. One, the turndown service was a nice touch and included fresh baked cookies. Second, the hotel restaurant and bar were fantastic. Very contemporary in contrast to the rest of the hotel. We had dinner and brunch at the restaurant and the food was awesome! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Had a good stay, this is the second time I have ever stayed there. This year the room was smaller for 2 people and just more cramped. I love this hotel though and will definitely go back next year.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice, quaint, historical"
Nice hotel if you want to stay in a non-traditional hotel with history. If you're looking for convenience and amenities like a fitness room, pool, etc. then this most likely won't work for you. Could use some renovation, a bit musty smell as most older buildings have over time but the staff is friendly, rooms are clean and has some nice 'old world' […] touches. "Very impressed - will go back again."
Great quality and service for the money. Very comfortable and clean. Pleasant, helpful staff. Many extra touches - freshly baked, complimentary cookies delivered to room when beds turned down, fluffy robes and slippers in closet, local area magazines in room, very nice restaurant and bar. Room service available.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Historic feel, but outdated and somewhat run-down."
The hotel itself has a nice, up-class feel and they provide some nice amenities (cookies at turn-down, nice robes, good quality bedding). Staff seemed helpful and friendly. Things were quiet so we were upgraded to a king-size bed. However, the room itself was in need of care. The baseboard and window trim were in need of repainting with very noticeable […] chipping. Additionally, the bathroom tile was stained and cracked. These things could possible be overlooked, but the room itself was not cleaned adequately; on check-in I found a peanut, a large pile of fuzz, and an ear plug on the floor. Even a mediocre vacuuming would have picked these things up. I'd like to recommend this hotel, but I would have to be assured that the above issues were taken care of before I could do so. "Very dissappointed"
We had arranged to check in about 20 minutes early and upon arrival the room was not ready. We were put in another room that was to be exactly the same. There was no desk or any surface to work on my computer. I called room service for a cup of tea and was told it would take no more than 10 minutes. Half an hour later it arrived. When we returned from […] the wedding we were there to attend we discovered the sheets were like sandpaper. When we checked out we found out that the room we were in was the smallest room in the hotel, not at all like the room we had reserved and the manager would call us with an adjustment. That never happened! In addition, the lobby smelled foul when we arrived and the breakfast service in the restaurant was appallingly bad. This hotel is way overpriced for what it is. Don't waste the money! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great spot"
As a woman traveling alone, I like hotels where I can drive up, get out and not have to park underground, around the corner, across the street or whereever. Nice smaller hotel, housekeeping staff needs retraining. A coffeemaker in the room is needed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quaint Location"
The Exeter Inn is in a lovely part of the town of Exeter, right down a residential street from Phillips Exeter Academy. The rooms are adequate, but not plush. Our room was small, with only basic amenities. The staff does try hard to please, including leaving a plate of cookies in your room upon your arrival. For what it is, I found it a bit pricey and […] regretted not having stayed in Portsmouth instead. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice experience in olde New England Town"
The Exeter Inn was renovated in 2008 - and the while the new interior is more modern and updated - it no longer feels like an old New England inn. Our room was small but functional for one night. For longer stays - a sitting area would have been nice - so a larger room... The restaurant was also updated - a little garish with red accents (my wife's […] comment - and I agree). The food was good, the service excellent, but I think we'll check out some of the more interesting restaurants in the town center next time - a short walk away. Overall - would visit again - but request larger room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Exeter Inn in August"
We made last minute plans to visit Portsmouth but there were no lodgings available so we happened on the Exeter Inn. What a great find! We were happier here than in a formulaic chain hotel in Portsmouth. This is really a delightful place, low key and in a lovely community.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Experience"
this hotel was extremely nice and the front desk and restaurant were very polite and treated you like a guest. We had trouble with the Comcast t.v. but they came up to help and even gave us cookies. The atmosphere is very elegant and prestige looking. Very lovely. Only complaint was the room was so small you could hardly move around. When we entered our room, there were two cookies waiting for us and the TV was on without volume to CNN. Since we were on the road all day, I liked getting a news update. "Exeter Inn"
Until a few more places that are under construction are finished, this is about the only place in Exeter to stay. We found it convenient to both Newburyport and Portsmouth but there's not much to see or do in Exeter itself. The restaurant in the Inn was good and the atmosphere was very good, but the restaurants in Exeter Center were overpriced and understaffed. […] In one we waited 20 minutes after being seated without anyone acknowledging we were present. When a table near us with people seated after us was visited first, we decided to leave. The only complaint about the Inn is that the room was very small. There being no room to place the TV on a table, it was hung on a wall to the right of the bed, making viewing uncomfortable. No bureau meant working out of our suitcases. If you need more room, be sure to check out the website first. The staff was very accomodating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We liked the location of the place, close to downtown. The service of the front desk is friendly. The room is small but clean. The sound isolation is not ideal and we could hear the noises next door and in the hall way.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Friendly service. Small, but elegant room. Quiet neighborhood with small town feel. (We were there in July with very few students around.) "Exeter Inn in Exeter, NH"
This small, charming hotel was just right for a short getaway. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the room was clean; and the curbside parking was very convenient. "Smelly Moldy -- a real let down"
We booked here because we know the area. As an older building I expected some drawbacks but the current state of the facility is appalling. Immediately we were struck by a bad smell. The employee at the desk was sitting and did not rise to greet us. We had to wait for her to finish chatting with a fellow employee before she bothered to see if we needed […] help - this in the evening as we waited with our young children. The elevator was tiny and stuffy and opened to another smelly floor. The halls all had peeling wallpaper. Even the newly remodeled bathrooms were already looking rundown. The tile baseboards were coming off and the paper bubbling. Our bathroom had not been adequately cleaned and contained remnants of the previous occupants - ewww! The bathroom did not have a fan and the moisture just collected. We had to open our window to air it out which made us feel we had no privacy. When we went to bed were staring at a very badly patched up ceiling which looked as it might leak again at any moment! We were looking forward to our stay here. Very disappointed to see it in such a bad state. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great restaurant, mediocre hotel"
The hotel is very nice on the outside. Nice gardens and lighting. The inside bar area and restaurant are also very pleasing to the eye. This seems to be where the updates ended. The front desk reception area is tired. There is nothing exciting about the interior hallways and very little common areas. Rooms are tiny, which is fine given the style of […] property, but given the style this hotel seems to want to be, I was disappointed that there was no coffee makers in the room, and as silly as it seems the toilet paper was 1-ply truck stop tissue. Just seems that they are cutting costs unnecessarily, assuming people won't notice or care. They did offer complimentary coffee at reception, but I find this a nuisance ti have to get up, dressed just to get my morning coffee. They do offer turn down service, with cookies which was a nice touch. They food at Epoch, was fabulous. I was quite impressed and intrigued by the menu, and the items ordered did not disappoint. I would highly recommend a meal (I only had dinner) here. With some small changes to this hotel, clean comforters (they should go to sheets around the duvet, like most hotels these days), coffee makers, better tissue and a friendlier reception desk staff (never once said hello or good morning or good evening when you walked past to get a coffee or leave the hotel) this hotel would be much easier to recommend Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Exeter Inn- Can't wait to come back!!"
We just got back from our stay at The Exeter Inn and can't wait to come back! We stayed in a junior suite (it was small) but it met all of our needs. We were greeted by very courteous staff at the front desk and the pleasantly surprised when we were given homemade cookies as part of turn down service!! We had breakfast on the beautiful patio at Epoch […] (restaurant on premises) the morning we checked out...big mistake because we wanted to stay even longer at The Exeter Inn afterwards! The Exeter Inn is just 25 min from Hampton Beach and 20 min from Kittery Outlet Malls and 15 min from Portsmouth. This is why we have to come back...we just did not have enough time to enjoy The Exeter Inn or the town of Exeter as much as we would like! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
