The hand towels were extremely dirty with matters I don't wish to write about. The hotel was a GREAT experience and would stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
One of the nicest historic hotels I've seen, and in a great location. The hotel is rich with history and the staff is top notch. This hotel was a splurge, but it was worth every penny. The room was small, but very clean. The food and service in the restaurant were great. There is a lot to see and enjoy simply roaming the lobby and 2nd floor. The valet […] parking rate seemed high, but I discovered it's only a few dollars more than if you self park at the closest garage. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Birthday in Austin"
The hotel is great. We stayed in the historical section. Desk clerk asked why we came to Austin. Told him it was for my birthday. After taking the luggage up, we went down to 6th Street for a margarita. When we got back to the room, there was champagne. Great experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Splendid...elegant. Good location for the Capiand"
The hotel is lovely. Staff was great too. We needed to change rooms, and that was no problem except I think the room had just a double bed. We did not really notice until we came back after dinner. I am sure they would have changed us again, but we just endured it for two nights. We would return here just as a destination on its own. Happy hour there […] is very fun with live music Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location, well maintained, almost luxury."
We came to Austin to celebrate the 4th of July and wanted to stay downtown. The Driskill's location could not have been better, literally at the crossroads of Congress and 6th Street. The hotel is old and historic, but it is well maintained and very clean. The bar was lively and had live music, a great place to have a cool cocktail and unwind. The room […] was small (not abnormal for an historic location) but nicely appointed and comfortable enough. The staff were excellent and went out of their way to accommodate a minor request. A couple of items held me back from rating a "Five". Keep in mind this room cost about $400 before taxes and is about as luxurious as one can get in Austin. There were only three towels and one extra hand towel in the room, which might have been enough for an evening and the following morning *if there were turn down service* which there was not; we returned to our rumpled bed and damp towels which were not dry by our morning showers. There was no complimentary bottled water in the room. I don't mind paying triple the rate of a standard hotel, but it bothers me when I am then nickle-and-dimed for things the lesser hotels throw in for free (at $6 per bottle, no less). The TV setup was terrible. It is all run through the PPV system and getting to standard television and then to a desired station took about 20 clicks on the remote with three seconds between clicks - soooo slow and tedious; changing stations was just as bad. What a great place. The staff are amazing - happy to help with everything. Some minor noise from outside, of you're planning an early night. Just request a room at the back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Driskill is great value for the money. Was in the "tower" where rooms may be a bit smaller but more than adequate for two. Every employee with whom we interacted was very professional, most helpful and pleasant, making us feel very welcome. Would defintely stay at the property again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Always stay at this beautiful, historic hotel on 6th Street. Very quiet, staff is excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Worth every dollar and it ain't cheap. The magnificent building will thrill you but the staff-from room cleaners to valets to concierge to desk managers bring grace and friendliness to what they do. You cannot beat the vacation excellence of the Driskill.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful historic hotel in downtown Austin"
It was such a beautiful hotel in downtown Austin. It's close to all of the restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic hotel in Austin, TX"
The Driskill Hotel is historic. LBJ used to hold his victory parties there--you can almost smell the cigar smoke! The high price is for the excellent location downtown and the beautifully restored public areas. The room was small and the bed was way too soft. The bathroom seemed to have the original tile and the walk in shower was poorly designed. For […] the price, I was surprised that the bathroom lacked the amenities one expects in a high end hotel. Breakfast was fine. Room service was OK but very pricy. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Historic Stay in Austin"
We were offered an upgrade to the LBJ Suite. Old style furnishings, great experience. Nice bar with live music every night. Do not expect the polish of an Intercontinental or major league hotel chain, but you will be surrounded by the charm of a landmark historic place.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The hotel is wonderful with character."
While I loved the hotel, it had no vending machines and the gentlemen referred me to a liquor/grocery store across the street that was no longer there. I was in the Senate Room (501) but the bathroom smelled of mildew.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Extremely charming old hotel close to capitol"
This hotel is a jewel hidden in downtown Austin. It is only six blocks from the State Capitol and has a history (built in 1886) and charm that you cant find in hotels today. It has beautiful architecture accented by wood and marble. The hotel staff are very attentive and meet your every need. The food is excellent. "Home away from home"
The desk clerk each evening of my stay, June 16 - June 18, gave me excellent restaurant suggestions. She deserves a raise! Very friendly. Room was great and very comfortable. Easy walking distance to my appointments and in a great part of the city.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful hotel in downtown Austin"
Just spent two nights at the Driskill. We enjoyed the downtown location and convenience to the local sites. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had the standard room in the old section and it was large and well appointed. I would definitely stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ada was AMAZING & HELPFUL!"
We stayed at The Driskill to attend the Zach Braff, Wish I Was Here private screening for the Kickstarter Austin Backers. It was right around the corner from the Paramount theater and near plenty of different restaurants and shops. We ate at the nearby Roaring Fork for dinner and Anne's for brunch! When we arrived, we were about an hour early. Ada was […] very accommodating and actually found another room for us or, offered us the Renaissance Suite which was perfect for a quick romantic getaway! I booked 2 rooms for my daughter in celebration of her 21st birthday. She was treated in a rude and condescending manner by hotel staff who at an early hour of the evening complained about the celebratory noise coming from her room. There was no courtesy involved when asking her to quiet down but rather she was threatened with expulsion from the hotel […] if the noise continued. I was sorely disappointed on her behalf and would have expected more respect of your customers even if they are young. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I have stayed here in the past on business, but took my 6 year old for a guys' trip. It was wonderful and a lot of fun for him.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I normally do not take time to submit reviews, but the Driskill was superb. I travel to Austin frequently for work, but decided to treat myself to the Driskill. Everything about the Driskill was great from the valet, front desk staff, and everything in between. The history and architecture of the Driskill takes you back in time before the idea of minimal […] staff hotels. Don't miss a chance to stay at the Driskill. Oh, the rooms were spacious, bed was great, and slept like a baby. I am a light sleeper and very pick when it comes to reviews. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"You MUST stay at The Driskill"
The Driskill must be one of the grandest of grand hotels. Standing in the exquisite lobby, you almost forget that it is still 2014. Taking in the historic ambiance and stunning art, you half expect to walk out onto a dusty street in the 1840s filled by horses and cowboys. The sense of place that this hotel exudes is unmatched. The rooms are beautiful, […] comfortable, and fully equipped with perfect touches - like the letter D on the headboard - that remind you this is a special place. The bar is welcoming. The lobby is grand. The staff is helpful. And, if you are like me, you will count the days until you can be transported again into the wonderful world of the Driskill... "Overpriced in the name of history and tradition"
Recent purchase by Hyatt has done nothing for this hotel. They have done away with Illy coffee and the service at the bakery/café was horrible, including 45 mins for a bowl of oatmeal and a continental pastry/juice/coffee breakfast! In fact, we were trying to find our waitress to cancel when she finally delivered the bowl of oatmeal and the wrong pastry! […] Their country potatoes are nothing more than frozen processed potato cubes fried beyond edibility. The Driskill Grille for dinner however was a fantastic, albeit extremely pricey, evening. The room lacked seating for two as it only offered one small side chair and a weird extremely high back desk chair so we were forced to sit on the bed as it was the only other option in a room so tiny you couldn't even open the bathroom door all the way due to the stand they used for the mirror/towels/hair dryer. I will not select this hotel again, and would not recommend this to anyone. In fact, this reservation had to be totally pre paid and non refundable for a very lackluster experience! "A True Texas Gem"
The hotel is beautiful and grand, yet warm and welcoming. The staff, from the valet to housekeeping were friendly and helpful. The hotel is within walking distance of several "hot spots" including the capital. I would definitely recommend this Driskill to anyone traveling to Austin.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was tiny, dark, and the carpet was stained. AC extremely loud, and very low water pressure in bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful hotel with excellent service"
This hotel has impeccable service. From arrival to departure, the polite and helpful staff saw to my every need with genuine attentiveness. The hotel has a long history, some of which I learned by viewing the art and exhibits on display in the lobby and mezzanine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is historic and very convenient,,, our third stay at the Driskill. The hotel is beautiful but is in need of renovation and updating. The elevator system is poor and is a bit cumbersome. It appears that the rooms and HVAC need a little work as well. Cold hallway and a little stagnant and difficult to use thermostat in the room. Other than that […] we enjoy the ambiance and comfort of the hotel, service is excellent and friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pretty much amazing"
I wish we could have taken more advantage of our stay at the Driskill since it was so fabulous for the night we were there. The surrounding area is perfect for going out and living up your time in Austin. The service was great - friendly and professional staff - and the rooms and halls had lovely original architectural details. We didn't try the cafe/restaurant, […] because we wanted to try other places in the area, but it looked great! We will definitely go back, if we can afford too. After treating myself to three nights at The Fairmont in SF last month I decided to keep the pleasure streak alive and I did. The Driskill is a grand place and obvious that it was a mansion built by a cattle baron. The interior is comprised of the finest wood and materials available and the staff is top notch. It is also dead smack in the middle of […] downtown with fine restaurants in every walking direction. Ada is SUPER! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Elegance in the midst of a great party."
Lacking modern amenities: Spacious bathrooms, pool, hot tub, big fast elevators. WHO CARES? Quality all around. Everything is beautiful and elegant. I loved just walking around in the place. I don't do this in a modern hotel; oh no I don't. The beds are extremely comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is serene and quiet until […] you walk outside. "Finally stayed for more then a drink!"
We've always visited the Driskell for the great bar and bakery but this Valentine's Day we stayed overnight and had a wonderful experience. The rooms are a perfect combo of modern convenience with historic charm and the bed is luxurious and comfortable. The staff is super friendly and enjoying the jobs they do, it shows.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The service at this hotel was some of the best I have experienced. When I had a small issue, they bent over backwards and made sure that it was corrected to my satisfaction, They then sent me a complimentary bottle of wine and a cheese plate with an apology note. The manager followed up the next day with an e-mail double checking that my stay was satisfactory. […] Beautiful hotel and fabulous service (and I am picky and travel A LOT). Thank you.
