"Luxurious historic hotel right on 6th Street"
We had a terrific two-night stay at the Driskill. The lobby and lounge are incredible - it was so tempting to just stay and relax there in the lovely decor instead of seeing the rest of Austin. However, the location was so great that we could walk to everything we wanted to see, including the Capitol, the University of Texas campus, the Texas State […] History Museum, and, of course, Sixth Street. Our room was huge, with ceilings that must have been close to 18 feet high. We requested a quiet room, and the staff graciously granted our request. All of the staff at the Driskill were very professional and courteous, and they were eager to make sure we had a nice stay. The only thing missing was a fitness room, but with all the walking we did, that wasn't a huge loss. We highly recommend this hotel! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We have stayed at the Driskill many times but this last visit was very disappointing. The bathroom was cramped with very few amenities and no hot water for an early morning shower. The room had two very uncomfortable chairs with a desk that did not fit in it's designated space. The lighting was inadequate at best. The bed was comfortable but unfortunately […] the bottom sheet was neither wide nor long enough. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Cool Historic Hotel"
This was our first time at the Driskell. It was a treat to stay at such an old historic hotel. That being said we were slightly dissapointed with the upkeep of the hotel. The lights did not work properly and the ice machines on two floors were out. The noise from the staff working in the hallways was very very lound. Other than these slight inconveniences […] our stay was very enjoyable. The bed was super comfortable and you cant beat the location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
the rooms had no cotton q tips shower cap which was unusual for that type of hotel no turn down service the staff is not knowledgeable about the citie events which was a problem for drivingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Walk to everything! Very convenient."
A very classy hotel with all of the amenities. You will need to valet park, but it's free and your car is quickly retrieved by the friendly valet staff. If you want to visit Austin's famous live band bars, you'll be literally steps away and can have a few drinks without worrying about meeting "Austin's Finest"! wonderful ambiance and lovely old world but very comforable hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I had a great time, the hotel was very nice and the rooms were very comfortable. The hotel was tucked right down town off of 6th street an easy walk to lots of restaurants and bars in the area. We wish we could have stayed longer, maybe next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I enjoyed staying in this landmark of Austin. Hotel is terrific even if rooms are small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill VG, we're glad to hear you enjoyed your time with us at The Driskill. One of the unique features of our historic hotel is that we do have rooms in a variety of sizes and layouts. When making a reservation, we'd be happy to help you select the best category for your comfort on your next stay!
only issue was the dumpsters below our window that were loudly dumped in early morning hoursGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Our sincere apologies that the noise disturbed your morning during your stay at The Driskill. We will continue to monitor the time of trash pickup, and will make every effort to adjust for future guest comfort. Thank you for bringing the noise level to our attention.
"Sub par for a 4 star"
Well, since I really can't tell you exactly what it was like I will say that I would not book again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is beautiful and historic. The staff was efficient and friendly. The location is ideal for all tourist activities. We would definitely recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"small rooms but great staff"
Small bathrooms, the shower was extremely tight and very low pressure from the shower. rooms are on the smaller side as well but was able to get upgraded to a bigger room. very friendly staff and helpful which made up for some of the issues.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My room had a very noisy fan adjacent to or above the room that vibrated the wall and made a low grinding sound. I called the front desk for a resolution and it took three calls for the front desk to answer. The hotel claimed hotel was completely full so they could not relocate me and they said there was nothing they could do about the noise.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old World Charm but not service"
Nice hotel, but my room was the size of a shoebox-so small you couldn't open the minibar without moving the bed, and they didn't give me a minibar key anyway, or ask if I wanted one. The other complaint is that if you use their valet, it takes forever to get your car even if you're the only one waiting.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Driskill in Austin"
Hotel staff was friendly, location was perfect, my only gripe is the elevator. Holy smokes is that thing slow... You can do better than that, Hyatt.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"charming historic hotel"
this is an older, historic hotel, so shows some wear and tear in the public areas...but this is more than made up for in charm and the room was lovely.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Texas At It's Best"
This is a fabulous historic hotel but with all of the modern amenities. It is definitely one of the most beautiful hotels in Texas. A must stay!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful hotel situated right in the middle of the action on 6th street. room was a bit small but we enjoyed it tremendously. Cafe on the first floor was great for breakfast. Will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Another Great Visit"
I got my business done on Saturday and really just lied in bed on Sunday enjoying the morning. . . . This one was just relaxing and the housekeepers were very respectful of my late check out etc. . . Thank you for a lazy sunday. . . I needed it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unique hotel with much history and some noise"
My room was spacious and as with the rest of the hotel, unique in its design and decor. Staff was pleasant and helpful, both at the front desk and concierge desk. My only complaint is that the thermostat tended to run warm and since noise (especially voices) outside my room was relatively noticeable, especially since I was right by an elevator. Would […] probably avoid staying on 6th St. again unless you are into the collegiate late-night party scene and don't mind the noise and chaos on the street associated with such. I might opt for a quieter neighborhood the next time I'm in Austin. A plus about the Driskill's location, however, is the proximity to the Capitol and Bullock State Museum. "Beautiful historic hotel"
I've stayed in a number of historic hotels but The Driskill ranks at the top. It's a beautiful hotel that is well maintained. We stayed in the historic section in a suite and it was just wonderful. Typically, old hotels like this are a sight to see in the lobby and bar but then the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Not here thank goodness. The rooms […] were very nice and while the bathroom was small, it was very nice and I loved the shower. The service was impeccable and when we had a funny mix up with our room, the hotel staff was very gracious and paid for our cocktails while the matter was straightened out. I will definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good central location"
Great location in the heart of downtown Austin. And you can walk to SOCO where all the cool shops and restaurants are located in about 20 minutes. Our room was a little small but the high ceilings made it feel larger. Our bathroom was tiny and didn't even have an outlet for the hairdryer which I thought was odd. But great location, clean, worked pe […] rfectly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Be careful with valet parking your vehicle.. Whatever garage they parked my F-150 truck in was to short and it scraped the top of my truck. Other than that it was all FIRST class, especially room service breakfast!!!.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what you expect for the price!"
I was very disappointed with the hotel, it needs renovation, the elevators are really slow, the room was tiny and not even one drawer to put your clothing. For that price you have many much better options in AustinGenuine Expedia guest review
Towels were hard like sandpaper. Toilet paper was super thin. Bed sheets came off and we woke up sleeping directly on the mattress. IMO, a hotel has 3 simple jobs: good sheets, good toilet paper, good towels. The Driskill failed in all three categories. Waste of $200+.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Right in the heart of the action"
Really enjoyed the stay, just too short, good hotel to just hang around soaking up the atmosphere, friendly staff. Great bar with brilliant Blues Jam Session on Sunday night just opposite at the old fire station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel reminded me of the place where ranchers used to go when they got all cleaned up and wanted to spend their hard-earned money on a spectacular night in Austin. It is incredibly classy. Like fine wine, older can be better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Weekend at the Driskill"
Nice hotel, overall. Beautiful lobby and bar, great food and service. Rooms are al ittle dated but very clean. Hotel charged our credit cards twice for extras, a bit of a hassle trying to deal with this. Front desk staff should be trained better to perform payment tasks.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill We appreciate the feedback and apologize for the billing errors. I am pleased to see that it was worked out and will share your review with our front desk manager. We hope to see you again soon!
Nice public areas, but private rooms and hallways need updating. Plumbing was so terribly noisy that whole pipes shook minutes after flushing the toilet. You could also hear your neighbors flushing as well as their morning wake up calls. Not so cool when you are there for vacation. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you for the candid feedback. With 126 years of history inside these walls, we are always seeking out opportunities to make improvements, I will certainly share your feedback with our engineering team.
Our room was very noisy all night long. One night we were kept awake from 3-4 in the morning! Very thin walls. Would have liked a coffee maker in the room. We had a room overlooking an air conditioner which was pretty ugly. Loved the hotel in generalGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Touch of Class in College Town"
I've stayed at the Driskill several times now. It has such a great rich history and is a georgeous property. I compare their level of service and professionalism to that of the Ritz Carlton properties I've experienced. "Horrible staff, great hotel!"
I brought my mother here for her birthday. After paying over $400 for the room and $600 for dinner at the driskill (the four course meal) which was completely non edible, we wet to bed. After midnight three men from security came banging in our room door screaming "open up security!!!", my mother opened the door. They went into the bathroom for five […] minutes, came out and looked around our room and said "your fire alarm was turned off, sometimes this happens and we fixed it." Who does that to someone after midnight? Scared my mother half to death and I think their excuse was a big fat lie! I've stayed here many times before but never have I felt unsafe like this. "Wonderful, beautiful hotel"
Very friendly, professional, upbeat, laid back, comfortable, clean, classy hotel. I enjoyed my room, cafe, & bar in the evenings very much. The location was perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the area's many hot spots. Didn't have to rent a car! Could enjoy most all of what Austin has to offer by foot. Thoroughly enjoyed my 5 day stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very enjoyable stay"
The Driskill is a Texas landmark and for good reason. Built by a cattle baron back in 1886, the hotel exudes history and charm. Despite the hotel's age, I found my room to be clean, comfortable, and modern in all the ways it should be. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and the location is great - right in the middle of Austin's live music mecca. […] The hotel rate was comparable to other name brand hotels in the area. Response by The Driskill Thank you for your review, it sounds like you've been studying up on your history! We strive to maintain a balance between that historic cattle baron style and the convenience of modern day amenities, and we are happy to see that you enjoyed yourself.
If you like historic hotel properties (in a great location), this is the place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was an extremely beautiful hotel with friendly staff and service. It is in a convenient bar/restaurant/site-seeing area as long as you don't mind all of the bums wondering the streets asking for change (typical of anywhere in that part of Austin). Although it was pricey, it was definitely convenient. The $28 per car, per day Valet fee was ridiculously […] expensive so I felt I got handled on that one. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. While we work diligently to eliminate street noise in our guestrooms, the sights and sounds of Downtown are often difficult to avoid once you step outside our doors. We certainly apologize if you were unhappy about our valet charges, however, these are fairly standard for Downtown hotels as parking is limited. We hope to have an opportunity to host you again!
"Great Hotel Bad Surroundings"
I am from Dallas and I am accustomed to the every now and then homeless person. But as soon as I walk down the street to congress street, I am begged for a hand out. The area is noisy from all of the ambulances and fire trucks racing down 6th street or congress street. I honestly counted 8 ambulances while my time there at the hotel and that was for […] one night! I must have counted over 20 homeless while to and from Manuel's restraraunt. I wasn't worried but just being bothered every 30 ft for money gets annoying. The bars were great except for the JACKALOPE. My wife got food poisoning from eating their chili cheese fries. The Driskill is a favorite spot of mine - rich in service and tradition. This was my first time in a Curio room and it was smaller than I expected. Traveling alone, I found the room to be fine - although it could get a little crowded with 2 people in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
