"Wonderful historic hotel"
We arrived in the evening to an amazing lobby more like a movie / museum, and clearly several black tie events were going on. We checked in for a 5 day stay and despite being very busy we were attended to after a short wait by the staff. I had expressed my room preferences (king size bed) with the reservation, and did not remind her as she checked us […] in. The bed seemed only full sized, not queen or king. I was surprised at how small the room was, there was only room to open one suitcase in the whole room, in a closet. There was a small armchair and nowhere else to sit and get dressed or have a drink besides the bed. The walkspace around the bed was so small we kept bumping into the bedpost-ow! Though very nice, this was clearly a room for one person alone and not big enough for two people for 5 days. We just stayed out! There were many positives. The bathroom / shower was wonderful and I have never had such great water pressure in a historic wing. We later found out we were near the haunted room - which explained the alarm clock quietly going off at all hours even though we had turned it off. The restaurants in Austin were great and the concierge with glasses (Steve?) never steered us wrong, and I even ordered his great recommendations off the menu at Second St. We never felt crowded and had no real noise problems. The Thanksgiving Brunch looked amazing, but we had to leave for the airport. We walked everywhere, but the valet was quick when we needed the car. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Top Class Property"
The Driskill drips the history of Texas. We loved it in every way.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We spent a lot of money for this hotel, and frankly were disappointed in the quality of the rooms. It was a fairly standard room with standard amenities that you would expect from a 4-star hotel, definitely not from a 5-star. We have stayed in much better hotels for a lot less. It is bang smack in the middle of the downtown though, which was absolutely […] great. Everything;s within walking distance. If it's convenience to downtown you want, skip this hotel and find a cheaper one a few blocks away. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quick Business Trip"
The hotel has a great location downtown Austin. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
I went with a friend and we had a great stay! I chose this over the others in the area...The room was an older feel- but the classic old- not trashy/neglected aura... the hotel was perfectly situated and staff were very friendly/professional. Looking forward to going back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Service was exeptional love this classic hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Perfect Combination of Historical hotel atmosphere but with all the modern comforts a 21st century traveler needs. We will definitely stay here everytime we come to Austin!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't miss the Driskill"
WOW! The experience you can have from a stay at the Driskill is worth every penny. Fun fun fun right in the heart of the action, (admittedly for the younger crowd) but fun none the less. I recommend the Driskill whole heartedly!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to everything with the best of everything"
Wonderful experience! Close to all of the hot spots in Austin, walking distance to the lake and convention center. Went to the hotel bar for happy hour and ended up staying through closing. Great bartender and fun hotel guests - really enjoyed ourselves!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pricey but great location"
Small rooms, mildew smell throughout, quite pricey. Great location in west end of 6th st venues. Elevators slow. $34 for valet parking!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best spot for downtown Austin"
This is the best hotel to be centrally located and still have the night life of 6th street right outside the door or a minutes cab ride away. The solid, stone walls and decorations are constant reminders of where you are, rather than the usual decor of anywhere USA.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice. By far the best hotel I've stayed at in Austin.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely Historic Hotel"
Right in the middle of all the action in downtown Austin, everything within walking distance. Friendly staff, quiet room. Great bar!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, horrible bed."
The bed was the only problem. Very uncomfortable. I did not sleep well at all and my back hurt so bad the next morning! The mattress topper is worn out or cheap quality.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to downtown, easy to find, fun to stay"
I really liked the location, and the people were very friendly. I loved the interior, and my room was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and after a 17 hour drive, it felt like heaven! The room service was awesome, but the food was questionable. (I think the chips were stale.) Overall a great place, just eat elsewhere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great historic hotel in the middle of everything."
Beautifully restored, didn't feel like a reproduction. Didn't need to drive after we got there, plenty to see within walking distance. Great downtown area. Nice facilities, restaurant and bar. Great place if you like a walkable downtown.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect 10 year anniversary getaway"
Wonderful! My wife & I spent our honeymoon night there ten years ago, so we decided it was the perfect place to spend our anniversary. We love this place! W only live about six miles from the hotel, but the beautiful old world charm, wonderful staff and great location make it our favorite place to stay in Austin for a romantic getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointed in the noise disturbance."
The hotel is beautiful, but they had a wedding booked Saturday night, and the DJ was playing the music so loud that it litterally shook the hotel room. We stayed on the 4th floor and could hear every beat, of every heavy base note and that went on till just past 11:30pm. There was no way to rest or fall asleep. I went down to the front desk to complain […] and all of the employees just starred at me and said "sorry," but they couldn't do anything about the extremely loud music. If you have small children and plan on staying here, or want a restful night sleep, call and check if they've scheduled a wedding reception first. If they do have one scheduled,I highly recommend staying somewhere else, or be preparred to not have anyone in your room sleep until after 11:30pm. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"easy and nice clean place"
we stayed in the senate room very nice room but the AC units on the roof next to the window could be heard all night my wife never heard them but i did overall a great stay..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Ceiling fan made a squeaky sound all night. Maid service came knocking at our door very early; 8:45 am. Six dollars for a bottle of water!!!! Really !!!! To stay there is a novelty because its a historical landmark. It was my first time there though I live in Austin for many years, so I decided to stay for one night to celebrate and worry about driving […] home. Cost was height for the quality of the room. For the same price I should of stayed at the W, or the Four Seasons. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Hotel but not as advertised on Hotels.com"
The Driskill was very clean and comfortable. Did not have to quirky 6th funkiness I was expecting. A little more stuffy than my taste. The staff was great and prompt. According to hotel.com the hotel offered room service 24 hours a day, but it stopped at 11p on Sun-Thursday and midnight on Fri and Saturday. It says I can't report rates so here so I […] won't be specific, but the valet service was also not the rate advertised on Hotels.com, but about 20% more. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Luxury Stay in Austin"
I have walked past the Driskill many times when in Austin and decided that on my next trip to stay there. It was a great move. The hotel has all the luxury feel of the Fairmont hotels. The room, while a bit small, was decorated in an amazing style that made the hotel seem much more expensive then it was. The bathroom was one of the most elaborately […] equipped bathrooms I have ever seen. A full soaking tub, a separate, huge shower with multiple heads and jets all done in black marble and Corinthian columns. An amazing room to be sure. And definitely eat at their café. The grilled watermelon salad was one of the tope three salads I have ever had. Great hotel and my new "go to" when in Austin. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic Hotel in downtown Austin"
Wonderful experience in a historic hotel from 1886. Staff was wonderful, location was perfect for cruising the 6th street music scene and visiting the Capitol.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel staff was amazing. From the valet service, to the front desk, room service, and the bar staff. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel like we were the only guest they had. At the end of our stay, the front desk manager talked restaurants with us. I purchased a shot glass from the desk clerk and as we were talking about my collection, […] she lovingly wrapped my glass and included stationary, post cards and other items with hotel emblems for my scrap book. "Best 21st Birthday Ever!"
My dad rented a room for me and my best friend, and we had the time of our life. Friendly staff, great service, and we could walk everywhere on 6th street we wanted. It was a great birthday surprise. You can't go wrong here. Amazing property!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill A belated Happy Birthday, Nicole! We're so very glad to have had the opportunity to host a special occasion for you, and we look forward to the opportunity to play host to future special landmark occasions as well!
Just average room, not very big . I have stayed at some five stars so it is hard for me to rate upon that . Very period but most of this can only been seen out in the lobby and walking around and we just did not do much in that way. Really did not get about to have a fair statement. The Room overall just average. Bathrooms are a girls best friend and […] these were just plain. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you for your review, Steve - we do offer two separate wings, as the main building was constructed in 1886, and our tower wing added in 1929. The rooms in the 1929 wing are designed in a more modern way, however, with the introduction of Hyatt as the new ownership and management, the company does plan to invest significantly in upgrades and improvements throughout the property. We look forward to welcoming you back!
"Great spot to stay to be in center of action."
Hotel is clean, convenient and comfortable. The interior spaces in lobby and bar are very dark hich I don't especially love but the rest of the hotel is very nice . Rooms are small but if its just 2 people, that's not an issue.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you for your review, and we're so pleased to have been able to host you here at The Driskill! "the cleaning staff"
Everything was great, this is a VERY nice hotel. My only complaint is the cleaning lady came by at 8:30 am, and then 15 minutes later. Admittedly, I didn't have the "do not disturb" sign posted, but that's just to early. Outside of that the hotel was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you so much for your time in penning a review, and we're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us! We will communicate your concern on timing with our housekeeping staff, and we do hope to welcome you back to The Driskill when your travels next bring you to Austin.
"Close to my meeting places. Very relaxing."
While I emmensely enjoyed my stay and found it very relaxing, I was disappointed in two areas. I prefer a coffee pot in my room and there are none. I work a lot at night and evenings and it is an amenity I enjoy and depend on. The bar was the second disappointment. The beer selection was boring. Nothing unusual or different than a local hometown bar. […] You can go out to any beer establishment and find at least 1 or 2 other unique beers in Austin. Unfortunately that is not the case at the Driscoll. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you for your review, and we apologize for your frustration with beverages during your stay. We do offer a selection of Texas beers in the Driskill Bar and our 1886 Cafe & Bakery, our apologies if those were not clearly communicated! While we do not offer in-room coffeemakers, we do serve complimentary coffee in our lobby, beginning at 6:00a each morning.

"Driskill is great"
Everything was very well done at the Driskill. My one complaint is that I had the impression from the website that we'd have a small balcony or at least more of a view. I'm not sure why my room cost more than any other room in the building, it only had two regular-sized windows and the curtains didn't open all the way. But other than that it was really […] nice. Response by The Driskill Mr. Fak, we're so pleased to have had the opportunity to host you here at The Driskill, Austin's legendary property. As a historic property, we do have a variety of room types and layouts. A number of our Executive Suites and various other room types do feature balconies on the circa 1886 historic side, while the 1929 tower side does not. Should you have any questions, we're always happy to assist in specific room selection, and we'd love to ensure you have the space that best suits your need and expectations on your next visit!

"A great hotel in downtown Austin, Texas"
All of the staff were very helpful. The valet and concierge team were awesome, always ready to help and always on top of things making sure our car was awaiting us when we came out to leave to go to our various venues. The tour of this historical hotel was also a lot of fun and informative. The room was clean and roomy, for an older historical hotel, […] all of the amenities were upgraded and in excellent condition so that you felt like you were in a new room instead of a facility that was started almost 130 years ago. The food was excellent at the café and the club, and the live music in the evening, kept you hopping the entire evening. This was a great location for my wife and I to spend our wedding anniversary. "Location, character, service, but small rooms"
I stayed here with my mother in a classic room with 2 queens in the tower building. My mother has trouble with stairs, so it involved 2 elevator rides. The room was small, but the beds were super comfy. It was quiet and the bathroom area had 2 sinks, which made getting ready in the morning more efficient. The service was great, especially the hyper-speed […] valet. The hotel has great character--nothing like a cookie-cutter hotel. The TV has some technical issues and a relatively limited set of channels, but we were not coming to Austin to watch TV in our room, so we didn't care. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Front desk not helpful"
We decided to treat ourselves to a nice room on our wedding night at the Driskill. When we arrived, we went to the front desk to make sure the overnight bag that was dropped off earlier made it to our room. The guy at the front desk called valet and said that it was there. We then walked to the wrong elevator, and no one offered to tell us where we […] should go to get to our room. Once in our room, we could not find the bag so we tried calling the front desk. It took 4 tries to actually get a hold of someone to tell them that our bag was not there. The next morning when checking out, we stood at the front desk for several minutes while the guy working talked on the phone, in what sounded like a conversation with another hotel about a guest issue. The hotel itself is nice, but the rooms were not worth the money and the front desk employees were terrible. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Camille, thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear your experience was not up to our service standards, and certainly understand your frustration. We'll follow up with our staff in order to improve communication and ease of transfer of luggage and the check-out process. We do apologize, and hope we might be able to have the chance to present you with the legendary service The Driskill is known for on your next stay.
The historic hotel's rooms need a makeover. The carpet and furnishings look like they haven't been upgraded in many year. The common areas are nicer which include a bar, cafe, and restaurant. The food was also good. The location was a little too close to a homeless shelter so every time you went outside you had to dodge them.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Driskill Thank you for your time in sharing your feedback, and we do strive to deliver the same standards in decor in our public areas as well as in our guest rooms. Planned upgrades are in the works, and are a continual focus in maintaining the historic (127 years) property. We do employ our security team to carefully monitor any loitering persons in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and strive to provide a pleasant arrival and departure experience in the heart of Austin's downtown neighborhood. We do hope to welcome you back to The Driskill on your next visit to Austin, and hope to be able to share a few of the upgrades we have in motion.
