"Room was not ready"
We arrived at the MileNorth Chicago hotel 12:45pm. Knowing we were early, we went ahead and (pre)checked in. We went walking around Chicago, with plans to go back to hotel around 3 pm (said check-in time). When we got there at 3:15, the room was not ready/cleaned yet, and was told, "actually check-in is from 3-4 pm and we would probably get into the […] room, more like 4:15pm." the hotel lobby was FILLED with customers like me, waiting. I was compensated with two free drink cards at the lobby barista. We finally got into our room at 4:40, which compromised our evening plans, and had to skip dinner in order to get to our evening plans on time. It all worked out in the end (an hour and 40 minutes later), but such a stressfull inconvenience to what could've been a relaxing day and evening. Thank you for giving us this forum. "Great Hotel and Location!"
The hotel was very easy to get to from MDW airport and the location was great. We could walk most anywhere in about 15 minutes or take a short train ride which was also easily accessed from the hotel. We ended up having an extra person join us for the night, which meant we had to change to a different room. We had a very pleasant stay at the hotel which is right in the middle of the Magnificent Mile, very modern and comfortable with a Chicago flair in the decoration. It was very well maintained and we were greeted very nicely at check in and check out. The only reason why we only give it 4 stars is that at checkout we were asked to pay a "hotel service […] fee" of USD 5 a day which was never mentioned on Hotels.com nor at checkin. "Good hotel...but not a "resort""
The hotel is excellent. However, some changes have been implemented that are bothersome. First, the dining room is now closed to breakfast. Just plain stupid on the part of management. Second, the snack area has been done away with. Three, the hotel now charges a "resort fee" for every guest. This is rediculous. The workout area is very small and there's […] no pool. Yet, you are charged a "resort fee". Surely this has to be a joke. They might as just raise the room rate by another $7.00. One just gets tired of being taken advantage of by businesses...I doubt if I would patronize this hotel for this reason alone. "Fun with friends and family"
The location was perfect. The mattress and linens were heavenly!! Spacious rooms. Great to have a mini fridge in the room. Loved our stay. This is a great value hotel and was the second time we stayed here. The location is unbeatable and the service is great. Fantastic location just half a block off the Magnificent Mile. We walked almost everywhere for a week and only took a cab once or twice to dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was always clean, well appointed and spacious. This place is great. The only con was that our shower door literally was about to fall off the hinges and they did not fix or repair it as we requested. "Continuous AC Problems"
The first room they put us in had a broken AC. It took 4 phone calls for them to come look at it. Maintenance "fixed" it for 20 minutes and it went out again. They would not move us so we sweated in bed on Night #1 in Chicago. The 2nd day we were moved to another room which also had AC problems. We sweated on Night #2 in Chicago. They "fixed" it on […] Day #3. Nights #3 &4 were fine. They insulted us by trying to "make-up" with drink coupons. We have kids and did not drink. They then tried to charge us an extra $20 Hotel Service Fee upon checkout which I did not pay. I asked to speak to the Manager on Duty, he was busy.
