Some of the rooms have seen better days and could use a refurb but if you can look past that this is a very good value hotel in a convenient and interesting neighbourhood near the Vondelpark.The breakfast is basic but the reception staff are friendly and very helpful. Memphis may seem far out from Amsterdam's center when seen on a map, but remember that the city is very small and there are plenty of benefits to being a bit farther out from the action. The Memphis is also right on a tram line which goes directly into the city center (2.70 EUR for 1 hour ride or about 8 EUR for 24 hours). I needed internet for my work. The service here was extremely slow and the hotel said that there was nothing that could be done. They should not advertise wireless if the speed of the service is so slow that it is ineffective. Otherwise, the hotel was fine. If you don't need internet, the area and the hotel were great.

Great hotel, great experience. Highly recommended! It is a good distance from just about everything (as long as you have a bike). The staff is very welcoming and friendly, they will help you with anything you need. The food at the restaurant is delicious and the rooms are very comfortable.

The hotel is right on a Tram line that can take you into central, and it was very easy to figure out how to use this system. No need to buy tickets in advance or worry about exact change--the tram drivers make change and will even help by telling you where to get off to get to the hotel. The big museums are nearby, as is a supermarket for the budget-minded. […] (Otherwise, be prepard to pay too much for food everywhere.) The one disappointment was the hotel restaurant. The food was good enough (not great and not inspired, but competently done), but there was only one waiter and one chef, so the waiting was extremely long and uncomfortable after a long day of walking. We were delayed in our connection to Detroit and had to find a place to stay on short notice and we were accomodated by the hotel - they were the only place we called because we had stayed there before. THe Memphis Hotel was fine, although a bit noisy as our room faced the main street . My daughter and I had requested 2 twin beds and they were more like a queen with a divided mattress. THe room was overly heated and the carpeting was a bit shabby but the bathroom was clean. Toilet was separate from the bathroom which was convenient with 2 trying to […] get ready. No toiletries were provided (which was fine) and the hair dryer was not working. There was a small refrigerator in a furniture unit which we did not discover until several days into our trip and apparently the 2 bottles of water contained therein were complimentary and replaced on some days, but not others. (They did not tell us that they were complimentary). Location is a bit outside of tcity but within a few minute walk to Vondelpark and even closer to nice family neighborhood eateries (bakeries and Italianrestaurant were delicious and reasonably priced) and a tram stop (which we never used - we walked everywhere for miles each day). We did not eat in hotel restaurant but it appeared that the nightly "special" stayed the same for several nights. If you want reasonably comfortable housing at a reasonable value and good location, you won't be disappointed. Read more

My family rented two superior rooms at the Memphis. They were spacious, with queen beds. The superior rooms included a very good breakfast. Internet access is also included. Location was great for what we wanted to do, close to the museums and Vondelpark, in a very nice area. There is some local shopping, but its outside the canal area so its a bit […] removed from the bars and coffee shops. Leidseplein is the closest place to party, that's about a 20 minute walk. The hotel is on the #16 trolley line, which gives good access to the center of Amsterdam including Central Station. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The restaurant attached to the hotel is good, although the menu is limited its a good choice if you want something close to your room. Kartika, and Indonesian restaurant on the other side of Vondlepark provided a nice dinner experience a pleasant walk away. Read more

The hotel is close to the museum plein, but far from everyplace else. Public transportation is nearby however. Most of the staff were very helpful with providing direction and help. The room had two closets and plenty of mirrors. It was comfortable. We had a fridge, but it would have been nice to also have a microwave.

Although my room was small, it was meant only for a single person. The surrounding neighborhood is mostly residential so it's very quiet. It is located near a tram stop, but the location is VERY inconvenient when you're out near Dam Square past midnight. This is a sweet, friendly, neighborhood small hotel. The Staff were gracious and welcoming. I accidentally poured myself a coffee from the Business Center (unknowingly!) and the Staff member kindly mentioned that particular coffee was for Business Meetings! Easy tram ride to center of town. Very clean room and the A/C worked great. Better than expected room was semi quiet as my room was on the street side but at times can be noisy. Employees where very friendly and helpful. Hotel is near major muesums the Rijks and Van Gogh and is an easy walk from the hotel.

This wasn't my first trip to Amsterdam, but it was my first time staying at the Memphis Hotel. The hotel is situated with easy walking distance (15-20 minutes) to both the Van Gogh and Riks Museums. The "Leidersplein" is also within walking distance. Once you get accustomed to your surroundings its easy to find short cuts to the aforementioned museums […] from the hotel. Vondel Park is also nearby and offers a short cut to the "Leidersplein". The neighborhood near the hotel features some quaint breakfast cafe's, bar's, shops, and eaterys. I ate breakfast out every morning near the hotel because the hotel prices were somewhat expensive. Amsterdam is full of great restaurants and the "Liedersplein" is home to many of them. The only drawback to the Hotel is the fact its on the opposite end of town from the main train station, and you'll need a cab to go to and from. The single rooms are very small, which is to be expected. The carpet in my room was in need of replacing, but that was the only downside to the room. The room's have A/C, which allows you to shut your windows at night to drown out the noise from the street traffic; i.e., autos, trams, people, etc. My bathroom appeared to be newly renovated. The great thing about Dutch TV is all the English speaking programs are in English with Dutch subtitles and the hotel had quite a few English TV channels (American/British). The front desk personnel were very cordial and went out of their way to ensure you had a pleasant stay. Read more

The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Museumplein. It is right on the tram line for the 16, which goes directly to central station. The neighborhood was quiet and clean, as was the hotel room itself. The bed was larger than I expected, and the bathroom was a fair size. Overall, very nice. I would stay there again.

Very easy access from the airport. Take the 197 bus (4euros) from outside the airport doors and get off at Museumplein - it is then an easy 10 minute walk to the hotel (walking back down the road that the bus has just brought you along), the hotel will be on the left side of the road. There are two trams that take take different routes into the city. The number 16 is about 2 minutes walk and the number 2 tram is a five minute walk away. Check in was very easy with the staff friendly and informative and our room was available right away. The room itself was very comfortable (although warm so we did have the air conditioning on).
