The staffs were kind and friendly, but the hotel was really dark and gloomy, and rooms and bathrooms were small even for 2 bed room suite and family suite. The cloth hanger was such a type that attached into a hole very inconvenient to use.

It's a very nice hotel, with an excellent location - especially for those attending the Australian Open tennis tournament. (It's about a 15 minute walk). There are also many restaurants and shops located within walking distance.

Very good location! Convenient equipments in the room, like small sink, microwave, toaster with dishes, glasses, cups good for simple breakfast and night snack. Stamford Plaza was a good hotel in a good area. It is an easy walk to many parts in Melbourne including Flinder St Train Station. The hotel is kinda pricey and i noticed many of the people there were on business not leisure. But still a good hotel for leisure. A good hotel is one where everything is perfect upon arrival. A great hotel is one that recognises there is the occasional glitch and remedies the situation immediately. For some reason the air conditioning was unable to switch off the cooling fan when I was in need of only heat for the room. I spoke to the concierge at around 8pm prior to leaving […] for a short meeting and when I returned the maintenance fellow was just packing up his tools after fixing the problem. I was warm as toast thereafter. In Five star hotels I expect great service with a smile and courtesy; but I wasn't expecting the chief maintenance engineer to be called in on a Friday night. I thought I may have to change rooms - which is always a bother regardless of how helpful the staff. So, a pleasant surprise. And, definitely return business! Thank You Stamford Melbourne. Read more

The location was great. We had a buffet breakfast for each morning and would totally recommend anyone else having it as well. The rooms were ok, we were meant to have a king size bed but only had a double.

Great apart from Safe not working which duty manager sorted after lenghty discussion and request from myself for free breakfast. Also requested an additional hour for check out on Monday morning upon return to my room from a late night out, the gentleman at the service desk at approx 2am in the morning refused. Stamford Plaza is an attractive building. I chose not to drink at the Bar as the music was loud and unattractive and even though a grand piano existed in the lobby it would have been nice for the Hotel to provide employment for a pianist to play it rather than an automated process. We got a cheap(er) rate because we rate paid long in advance. Even so it was still a bit expensive for us. But as a family of 5 booking for a stay during the Australian Open, we did well to get the rate we did and in such a central location. We had adjoining rooms to make a 3 bedroom suite. Overall the beds were comfortable and the room and street outside […] were quiet. The kitchenettes are a bit too small for cooking family meals in, but you can manage breakfasts and make sandwiches for lunches etc. We found staff helpful and polite. If we could get the same rate again, we would stay here again, mainly for the location which was walking distance to lots of restaurants, attractions and transport, and the lovely pool and gym facilities. Even though we stayed as a couple and we enjoyed our stay immensely, as frequent business travellers we felt the hotel rates even better as a business hotel. For couples wanting a romantic stay, we felt it did the job but it does lack the grandure of other newer hotels in the 4-5 star range. Particularly the bathroom as even though it was a spa bath […] it was a single person in a small marble room so not exactly suitable for a nice bath for two. Couldn't really fault the hotel on anything though - room was clean and comfortable, staff were friendly efficient and helpful and the roof top pool facilities were great. It is an older style hotel but very well maintained. The location is a real winner being within walking distance to virtually everything but not too close that you are caught in the crowds or the noise. I was offered an upgrade on check in which I duly accepted and the room was opulent. From the marble bathroom to the well appointed kitchenette no detail was left unthought of. The room service meal was possibly the best meal I have ever eaten. A fantastic base to enjoy Melbourne from, with trams easily within walking distance.

Stayed at the Stamford over Christmas/New Year 2012 and we were impressed with the venue. We booked 2 rooms, one was king Studio and the other Queen studio. Very comfortable with everything you need. Good facilities to prepare your own food or very reasonable prices for quick meals in Harry's bar. We took advantage of the $10 credit to not have your […] sheets changed every day and used this to fund a buffet breakfast which we were given a 50% discount voucher for from reception, very good value. My partner and myself had a pleasant stay recently at the Stamford Plaza, Melbourne. The hotel is in a great location - Short walking distance to all transport and amenities. We stayed for 6 nights in the King Suite. The room was spacious, quiet, comfortable and clean. A kitchenette was also in our room supplied with a microwave, cooking appliances […] and utensils. The bathroom had a spa in the bathtub - however it is not an easy bath to get in and out of due to the depth of the bathtub and the high and awkward positioning of the handrail on the wall. The shower is located in the bathtub. The location of the glass shower door on the bathtub was also not practical because it opened inwards covering the taps on the wall. This made it difficult to reach and turn on the water initially at the correct temperature. These two issues in the bathroom were the only negative features of the our room. The reception and hotel staff were very helpful, courteous and friendly. Overall the hotel is very inviting, classy and lovely. The elevator is quick and unique with its glass viewing wall. The only negative is the expensive cost of valet parking ($45.00 a night). For longer stays it's worth checking out parking station costs close by - be aware they do differ in prices or seek after hours free or reduced meter street parking . We would highly recommend the Stamford Plaza and would definitely return. Read more

Whilst the rooms are of fantastic size with the bonus of bedroom and living area, the hotel does still appear to be a bit dated in some areas. The rooms are furnished nicely, but the bathroom is dated. The service however is fantastic. ALL staff were extremely attentive, polite and helpful. The room service and In Room Dining were superb with great […] choices. However, it is ridiculous to charge almost $17 for a movie which can be rented for less than $5 from a DVD shop. The hotel is in an excellent location - within walking distance to restaurants and cafes. However it needs improvement for the rooms. We had to move twice in the first 2 days. The first move was because the sliding door of the main bedroom could not move properly and the wand on the door was broken. The second move was due to air conditioning in the […] main bedroom was not working so we slept in the heat while the temperature in Melbourne was 39 degree. The kitchen and bathroom look a bit tired - need updating. The staff are helpful although the housekeeping forgot to replace face towel. When we returned at night, requested for a face towel and was told that the housekeeping was closed. So we didn't get one until the next morning. The good thing is that the last room we moved to was spacious and the staff were prompt in rectifying the issue. Given that the hotel is labelled as 5 star, it would need continuous updating to keep up with the 5 star standards. It was a little disappointing as we were expecting a true 5 star hotel. Read more

It was a very central place to stay. A couple of things we would have liked, Our room was so cold the entire time we were there. We could not increase the temp. The food at the restaurant was NOT good value for the expense we paid. Happy to stay there again but not eat at Harry's bar. Breakfast staff very friendly and helpful.

The iron in the room had a label over the hot plate saying the hotel held no responsibility for damaged clothing and it was advisable to check before use, that iron plate was clean.
