I rent this hotel because it was my son and my birthday . First when I got to the hotel the building outside looked ugly and old, to diferent from the picture that they post online, the lobby was ok . I spoke to the attendant in the front desk and requested info about the meeting room , so I can do an small party for my son , the person encharged was supposed to call me but she never did. Saturday I was outside the full day celebrating our bday with my family and when we got to the hotel my family went for a while to share some time with us , as a result we got a comlaint saying that we were to loud! The following morning around 5 am someone was screaming by ph and we couldn't sleep so I approach the time to say happy bdy to my son , but we got another complaint for that too. The security guy was really rude and disrespectul . I went to enjoy a good time but I will never choosed a Howard Johnson again, terrible service!!!! Not recomended at all!

Need inprovement

The hotel was convenient after our cruise. Bus stop right outside so you could go to South Beach or malls, etc. Room was nothing special, but adequate. Free breakfast buffet was so-so. They charge $9.95 for the breakfast buffet and it certainly isn't worth that! Overall, hotel was ok and a few yards from the ocean/beach.

The hotel was okey, and the room was big. The service from the personnel was excellent. But it was quite far to nearest store, and it took about 20 minutes to South Beach, where all shops and restaurants are.

Front desk staff 5 Stars. SPA Staff 5 Stars. What an enjoyable time. The staff in the gift shop and restaruant were less than friendly. They didn't seem to care if we were there or not, a little disappointing. It's ok we went to other restaruants around town and pickup the gifts out too.

The place was clean and comfortable for the price. No great frills, but decent.

The hotel can stand some improvements, but overall it's not a bad place to stay. Room was clean, a/c worked, location was great. There is a separate charge for Rental of umbrellas on the beach, food on premises is unacceptable, carpet can stand cleaning or replacement.

This hotel is very clean. I love that there is no carpeting. All the floors are ceramic tile. They get mopped daily. The hotel restaurant is fun. You get to eat in classic cars that seats have been added to. My son loves to eat there. The beach is great!

To park your car at he Hotel was $10.00 per day. If you pay cash, make sure you get a receipt! Don't take for granted that the parking tag you receive is your proof that you already paid. Pay with credit card if you can!

The lobby is the only nice spot of the hotel, everything else is OLD, SMELLS, CRUMY, the staff is rude, the resturant is WAY over priced and the food sucks, horrible place to stay!!!

hotel was very very noisy throughout the night and early morning, didn't get a good nights sleep, although very very nicely situated for beach and visiting surrounding areas, breakfast acceptable, would have eaten elsewhere though if we had found somewhwere we could have walked to in the morning. Local restaurants good, very nice beach with use of sunbeds free of charge when staying at hotel, Pleasant and helpful staff, large clean rooms, could have done with somewhere to hang wet towels/cossies etc. as we didn't have a balcony, It's a shame that it is so noisy as this is the only reason why i would not recommend it.

Far from Miami Beach Deco District. Employees not very friendly and the Hotel needs to be refurbish

The hotel itself was alright. Pool area was nice and restaurant was decent, esp. for breakfast. Our problem was with the noise level. For two nights we were kept awake most of the night. The walls are thin and you can hear everything going on around you and above you. Sounded like someone was moving furniture, wrestling and alot of partying going on. We are not old and can appreciate a good party but this was ridiculous Would not stay at this hotel again.

I read some of the previous reviews and was nervous to stay here, but I must say there was nothing to be nervous about. This hotel was excellent and I plan on staying here in the future!

The hotel was fine. It was comfortable enough, but the beach axcess was amazing. It is just public beach though so you could spend time there regardless of where you choose to stay.

No one answered phones at the front desk or for room service. Restaurant is not owned by hotel so you can't bill to the room and their menu is very limited, especially for room service. We had to scrounge to eat several nights. No restaurants within walkiing distance.

I took a weekend trip with my boyfriend, and decided on this hotel mostly cause of the location, its right in front of the beach. The view of the beach from our room is what kept us there. The only complain we had was that the room had a bad odder. I went to the front desk to make a complaint that same night. When I went to the front desk I nottice there was someone setting in the back office who didnt come to the front desk but let the security guard attend me from behind the front desk.I ask to speak to a cleark and he asked me what was the problem. I said the room smelt and he offered to send house keeping. As I stood there while he talked the only thing I was thinking was how the person in the back office could't tell me himself that there was no other rooms available or that he would send housekeeping. Whats more reliable, a security guard talking about your room service, or a front desk clerk? When I checked out from the hotel, I found out the person in the back was acually a front desk maneger... Thats sad.

the last time this hotel was updated must have been in the 40's. the bathroom is so small you cant even sit on the toilet without having to bring in your elbows to fit within the wall and the sink! the water temperature in the shower isn't regualted and it alternates between freezing you to death and giving you 2nd degree burns! enought said!

The outside hot tub was nasty. It had peanut butter film around the entire inside wall.The swimming pool was not very clean either. The paint on the walls of the hotel room was peeling,and the bathroom had mold in the shower. On the plus side.The staff was nice and the beach was beautiful. The food in the hotel was desent.

For the cost of the hotel, this was as I expected. We had a junior suite (I recommend spending the extra for a room upgrade), which was equipped with two double beds, a microwave, kitchen sink, toaster, coffee maker, and fridge, along with a decent south view overlooking the state park and side view ocean. The room was spacious especially in the kitchen/dining area, although the table in our room was meant for 5 yr olds (preschool size table and chairs). The bathrooms need serious work. There is no ventilation/fan, the plumbing is bad (especially drainage), and the toilets are Alcatraz style toilets you would expect to see at a bar. The pool and beach are good - although the towel service abruptly closes while the sun is far from down, and the outside bar closes too early as well. The pool/spa also closes, which is not convenient for people on vacation who enjoy a late night dip. Surrounding neighborhood is great. The hotel is next to a large state park equipped with grills, bathrooms, and a nice pathway for running. Within 1 mile is grocery, liquor, and great food. The hotel restaurant is very convenient while at the pool/beach, but I would not recommend the food for a serious meal as it is sub-par. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy the beach/pool and nightlife on Miami Beach for a good price, and is not overly picky about luxury in their hotel room.

The hotel did have some good features - good location, very pleasant restaurant staff, comfy beds. Our complaints - room was dated, not thoroughly clean, and not inviting, we got useful information from the concierge desk once, and completely incorrect information twice. This hotel has some potential, but it needs renovations. Our room looked nothing like the one shown online.

With this hotel, we got what we paid for. It was on the beach and relatively clean, but no stores close enough to walk to.

title says it all. Great cuban cafe's and restaurants are a 1 mile walk south through the park next door. Decent pool and hot tube. Nice beach. Great hotel for a night or two stay. The hotel is older but maintained fairly well.

This is a great hotel if you want to stay by the beach. The beach is directly behind the hotel, so you won't have worry about parking, because you'll already be there. The breakfast buffett was $9.95, which I thought was a little pricy for what they offered. However, as I mentioned before, you are allowed to park right by the hotel which is a plus, but you have to pay $10.00 a day!! Overall the room was okay..... But it was small, the room door hits the bathroom door everytime you come in the room and the entrance way into the room is small you can hardly pull two bags through....

Great hotel, they just need to work on customer service specially with the ladies at the restaurant, they are kind of rude.

We have stayed in South Beach in the past at places that were reasonably priced but blocks from the beach and loud (due to proximity to night clubs). This hotel was right on the beach which was nice and the pool was nice. There isn't a lot right by the hotel but it's a nice walk to the shops at Bal Harbor where we had breakfast a few times. We also had breakfast just down the street (off of 96th street) at a cool sidewalk restaurant. If you walk north you will go through Surfside and Bal Harbour to Haulover beach. If you walk south you head towards South Beach. The public bus runs pretty frequently to both directions. The hotel also offers a free shuttle to SoBe (drop off at Lincoln Road outdoor mall). But the shuttle only runs later in the day - no morning shuttles. If you want to go back to the hotel after the last shuttle it will cost you about $20. We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant at the hotel - which is a shame because the decor is sooo cool. It is all classic car themed and many of the dining tables are in actual cars. The room was OK - not amazing but nice and clean. Had a nice view of the ocean. I would definitely recommend - just be aware that South Beach is a few miles away.

I don't understand if I did an online booking and I specific select a non-smoking room and I got one. When I ask for a change the hotel was full.

The air condition was so old that made big noise whole night. And the room is small and old as the air condition.

Honestly, the hotel is a bit cheesy. But you can't beat the location on beach and the price for a beachfront room compared to other hotels in this type of location. Clearly old place but with a good, thick paint job. Very basic. Didn't mind lack of carpet in rooms - it IS beach Florida after all! Some of staff is professional but most are not. Restaurant not really good either but plenty in area if you have a car.

the hotel is run down and very moldy i pulled dhown the covers and there were crumbs in the bed MADE the cleaning crew come in and clean and make up beds since they claimed no other rooms were available

Would not recommend this hotel to others over paid for this hotel rating and the price i paid. after all it not so bad.you need to pay for parking. i have see worse.

This is an older hotel with a lot of character, being based on a 1950's automobile theme. We enjoyed the old cars incorporated into the theme and hope they don't remove them in remodeling. We had a view of Biscayne Bay from our window and could actually see our cruise ship from our window as we were getting ready to go get on board. We only stayed the one night before our cruise, but after reading several negative comments about this hotel, I booked it with hesitation. We were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our stay.

the hotel itself is a regular Miami hotel. It's a little cheesy with the cars and the dinning room. The room itself was huge with giant walk in closets but there were no chairs or other relavant furniture to fill the space. The view was spectacular too! However, staff was very unhelpful and gave a bad attitude when asked questions.

THE STAFF WAS NICE BUT NO CARPET IN THE ROOM - MADE IT FEEL SLEEZY

I read the hotels.com reviews before I went and had low expectations, other than the floor in the room being tile (which makes it gross if you're coming in from the beach - sand everywhere) our stay was great.

We have stayed at Howard Johnson in January 2009. I can say that we quite liked it. The good points are: proximity to the beach, cleanliness of the room (the cleaner was doing a good job every day), price. The bad points: the hotel and the room look like it needs refurbishing; u can hear your neighbours walk, watch TV and take shower so it can get quite annoying. The overall impression is good for the price you pay.

very old hotel with very pretty pool. check in was way later than promised, front desk kept telling us "another few minutes".rooms were not thoroughly cleaned although linen was changed daily. Bec. of tiled floors every persons move, suitcase rolling etc. can be heard at all hours of day or night. most disgusting of all, we kept up with next door neighbors sex life, headboards banging...pple screaming etc. Be ready for them to keep up with urs and u to keep up with neighbors.

It was a very pleasant stay. It was great having the ocean as your backyard. Nice rooms and great service. Not close to the shops but they did provide a shuttle to the mall and different locations. Overall a great experience!! Would stay there again.

Nive hotel. Convenient. Shuttle service to Miami Beach a great perk. Parking, though requiring payment, was a great perk too.

I would say it was better than expected. Really liked that fact that the beach was our backyard! The room was great as well as the staff. Nice restaurant there at the hotel to have a nice meal at. The one thing is that it was not in walking distance to the sites. They did offer a shuttle to some attractions. We had a rental to it made it nice but we did use the shuttle and it worked out great. I would definitely stay there again....next year!!

The only thing that was annoying was the tile of the floors of room. Everything else was great
