The room was ok. The beds were not very comfortable. The bathroom was very small and the countertop stuck out over the toilet so you got stabbed in the ribs every time you tried to use it. I happened to check in around 11pm. Teenagers all over the place...prom night. One clerk at desk..very efficient. Patient too. Read the kids the riot act. My room was in the corner..no view. "Decent rates, but not a great location"
This is an older high-rise hotel on the north end of Miami Beach. The good part is that staying here was a lot less expensive than other choices in the area. The bad part is that it's about 80 blocks north of the art deco district and the happening part of Miami Beach and there's really nothing within walking distance. The lobby is huge and has a high […] ceiling. Our ninth-floor room was fine and had a nice view to the west. We stayed here two nights. The first night it was raining and the restaurant in the pool area in the rear of the hotel saved us from having to go out in the weather. The food wasn't great and the people manning the place didn't speak much English, but we got a pizza and were able to have a passable dinner for less than $20. Breakfast was not included, but they had a breakfast buffet for $8 or $10. Another positive is that the hotel's WiFi was very strong. It looked like it would have been a maze to get to the actual beach from the hotel, which would have taken you through the sunken area around the pool and then back up again. "Cheap... You simply get what you pay for.."
I wanted a "cheaper" hotel for the three days before our recent cruise. Although I did not seem to take into account the amount of cheap this hotel provided. Although the view from our room was great, the glass was dirty, which was just plain disappointing. The resturant in the lobby was old and dated, and old fifties theme, but the cars were rusty and the presentation was terrible. While on Miami Beach this hotel is at least 16 blocks from any restuarants or shops. Some of the staff were wonderful but several were almost surly. We arrived off a cruise ship at 10:30 Am adn were advised that early check in was not available-we would have to wait until 3PM. At 3 pm about 25 peaople in the lobby jumped up to register. The pictures are blatant lies or at least exaggerations and the service was horrendous. "Okay for an over-nighter"
The hotel was in decent shape. Hotel has appeared as if it hadn't been renovated in quite some time. The check-in and check-out process was very easy, but this may be due to the impersonalization of the staff. The one staff member that we did find helpful was the staff in charge of calling us a cab. The restaurant is about as run down as the hotel, […] which was to be expected. The continental breakfast is nothing more than bread and water. The buffet food was okay but is overpriced for what you get. Keep in mind that gratuity is included in the bill for the buffet, although you do all of the work. "Nothing special, but good for the price"
We've stayed at this hotel several times, even before it was a Howard Johnson. It's not fancy, and the property is getting old, but they are trying to maintain things, with new paint here and there, and you can tell they are indeed making efforts. The location is great, right on the beach, right on the bus route, and the hotel shuttle is nice too, even […] though they cut back the schedule this year. The daily resort fee includes chairs for the beach, and towels for the beach and/or pool area. They are a little too quick to close up shop for the chairs if the weather turns, but otherwise it's nice to have. The hot tub was great, and I used it every night. English is definitely a second language here, so be prepared for that. Everyone understands it, but they don't all speak it very well. Front desk staff was wonderful, even when we had special requests on our room. Every year, we talk about finding another spot for the next year, yet we keep coming back anyway!
