Hotel Lancaster - Paris

What really stood out about the weekend we just came back from at the Lancaster was the friendly, helpful staff. Being an insane New Yorker, I must have made and canceled a dozen restaurant reservations and they were friendly, cheerfy and helpful at every step. Room was cozy and lovely, well cleaned with nice amenities.

I am not happy to write this, but I feel an obligation to those that write honest reviews that I often rely on. The staff at the Lancaster tries very hard, but they can only apologize a few times before it no longer has meaning. The condition of the physical plant is horrendous. We were in a freezing room and after several attempts to repair the heat, […] they gave us portable heaters. The towel warmer in the room never worked and could not be fixed. The worst was that the shower valve needed to be replaces, so we had a virtual flood everytime we took a shower in order to get the water from the tub to the shower. The furniture and beds are old and need to be replaced. This is supposed to be a Leading Hotel of the World, but it surely is not!!! The staff tried hard and offered to move us to a suite, but the bedroom and the bath were very small with a huge, cold living room. We declined because we did not want to pack and move to an inferior room. We had a Prestige Room which was more expensive than a Standard, Dreamer or Deluxe Room. They should have paid me to stay at this hotel....not me pay them. I asked for a high floor and early check-in when I booked and paid for the reservation. The room was not ready for 4 hours and it was on the second floor. I should have known then what I had to look forward to. Sorry, but the truth is sometimes painful. Read more

The hotel is located just off all the big busy streets on a small alley. At first sight, it's a bit scary, especially if you arrive at night. But then you look around, and see that it's actually a very calm, safe area. You enter and oasis of peace and luxury the second you enter the hotel and the door boys open the door for you, and tell you 'Beinvenue' […] with a smile. The reception staff are just as friendly. You are then showed around the hotel, which doesn't take more than 5 minutes because it's so small, but you are just overcome by the luxury and exclusivity of the place. The room is rather small, but just enough for a short business or tourist trip. The beds are comfortable, and the room itself quite cosy. The breakfast is a real experience, you can sit out on the garden under the open sky, next to a small fountain, surrounded by trees and bushes crawling up the stone walls. The view from my room window actually reminded me of the Romeo and Juliet scene where he sings under her windows and then climbs up the wall. Some along the lines... :) The hotel is perfect; the central location, the peaceful atmosphere, the wonderful service, the food and drinks, the eclectic design...and the prices are reasonable! The room was very nice and not a cookie cutter modern room. The staff was attentive. My daughter liked her room as much as I did mine. Her room was a bit noisier than mine because of road work. Mine opened out into the courtyard. Overall we both enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again

I was a little disappointed at first because I had requested a higher level floor but did not get it. It was fashion week and the hotel was booked to capacity. The hotel redeemed itself completely when we came back to our room from our anniversary evening on top of the Eiffel Tower to find that on our bed, the staff had created a large heart made of […] hundreds of fragrant red rose petals. They also left a delicious and expensive bottle of champagne on ice. On our last night they were able to secure reservations at Michele Rostang's restaurant, a 2 star Michelin Restaurant. It was very expensive but worth every penny (euro). It was a three hour dining experience. We had a wonderful time in Paris and the staff at the Lancaster was warm, welcoming, and very accomodating. We booked this hotel for the last leg of our honeymoon after reading it was #5 in the Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2011 (small hotel category). The good... service was great with friendly and helpful employees and the rooms are spacious and very well decorated. Now the bad... first, they put us on the 2nd floor while the 1st floor was being […] renovated. They advised us in the beginning, but promised work would begin no sooner than 9am. Well, on both Friday and Saturday morning we woke up between 7:30-8:00am to the sound of jackhammers and drills. I had to use my Bose noise reduction headphones to get back to sleep. They should have closed the 2nd floor as a "buffer zone" for the noise during renovation. Second, our "king" bed was two twin beds pushed together. This is ridiculous for an alleged 5-star hotel. Other smaller problems... (1) we had problems working the odd new lighting system they installed, (2) there was no shower curtain so water went all over the bathroom, and (3) we came back late one night around 2am and the doors were locked with no doorman in sight (this means there's either a security problem in he region or they're saving on night shift employees). I wanted to like this hotel since I enjoy smaller boutique hotels. But I can't recommend this hotel after a very mediocre stay. Read more

The hotel had significant problems such as early morning construction noise, squeeky floors/bed, thin walls, unusable car service, and poor condition walls and furniture. The service was great but at this price range I wouldn't expect the problems listed above. We regretted not spending more and staying at the Ritz instead.

Hotel was going through major reconstruction of several floors, but despite that fact, staff made our stay true pleasure. Bell boys, receptionist knew us by name, concierge service got us into the one of the places that are otherwise no-chance-to-get-in. Breakfast was also great experience with many interesting people around. Highly recommended!

Stayed here August 4-7, 2011. The service was absolutely fantastic. We arrived from the airport at 9 in the morning and they had a beautiful room ready for us! The Hotel Lancaster is a beautiful, old-world style hotel with an exceptionally gracious staff and a fanstastic restaurant. There is one very important thing to know when you book your room here, however: insist upon a room overlooking the enclosed garden. I did not do so and was greeted by news that my room had been upgraded, when I checked in. I was […] shown to a truly beautiful gem of a room with a balcony overlooking the street. There is a great deal of demolition/construction going on a present on the block, but I assumed that when the workers left for the day, it would be relatively peaceful at night. Wrong. There are at least two clubs on the block that remain open until around 4:30 AM. The club-goers come outside to smoke, chat, listen to loud music provided by their car radios, etc. Between that noise and the construction noise, I was able to get only about 2 1/2 hours of sleep per night. After 4 nights of that, I was ready to scream. I would go back to the hotel, but I have already insisted that my file carry a notation that I must have a garden-view room or nothing. If you go, do not neglect to make a dinner reservation here. It is NOT a typical hotel dining experience and I very much encourage anyone looking for an exceptional meal to partake! Read more

The Lancaster is in a fantastic location, just off the Champs Elysees- close to the Metro, so very easy to get around Paris. The rooms are very spacious.
