Friendly staff and clean room. Continental breakfast was OK but it would be great if fruit was added to the menu.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nicely renovated rooms. It was really quite and staff were helpful during my stay. Ill be back again;)Genuine Expedia guest review
Room did not reflect the poor exterior appearance. The elevators was also in poor condition. Other wise once we were in our room it was ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
While the room was clean and the view was great, there was no furniture other than the bed. The floor was tiled entirely...it could have used a throw rug. Our room was a corner room with floor-to-ceiling windows, which was great, but it had sliding wood panels that were very inconvenient to give privacy...curtains would have been better. The rest of […] the hotel is in need of desperate attention...it looks very run down. It has a great location with potential. The continental breakfast was juice and muffins only and the table on the patio of the lobby hadn't been cleaned in days. Overall, the hotel was adequate, but for the price paid, I expected much more. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Pretty worn out hotel, but location is nice--& view is spectacular! Only real problem I had was periodic & frequent (about once a minute) loud water pipe noise--like someone taking a vigorous shower. Had to run my own faucet to cover up the noise so I could sleep. Must have been a water leak somewhere that kept triggering a noisy valve....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It being Hilo, we didn't expect resort comfort. The ocean view was excellent. You just have to overlook how run-down most, if not all, of the structures in the area are. We were told the hotel was under new ownership and that upgrades were in the works. Note that we were in a white tiled floor room, with white walls, and white sheets (no comforter), […] almost like solitary confinement with only a tv on the wall. Luckily all we needed to do was shower and sleep (bed was decent). The toiletries were minimal and there was only one electrical outlet for one plug in the bathroom. We unplugged the lamp and clock radio to charge our personal items. A pleasant surprise to us was a complimentary continental breakfast (very basic but sufficient) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"One night in Hilo, Hawaii."
It was obvious approaching this hotel that it had seen better days. The moist Hilo weather had taken it's toll. If I hadn't already booked the room on the internet I would had gone elsewhere. As we got out to enter the lobby it was clear that nobody was spending any money for upkeep. There was wear showing everywhere. The carpet in the elevator was […] filthy, the walls were all scratched up. The 8th floor hallway was the same...in need of help. I was expecting the worst when I inserted the old metal key (yea, the old style) into our door, but to our surprise the room itself was quite pleasant with a european feeling to it. It was clean and looked updated and the bed was comfortable. If the rest of the hotel was in the same condition I would rate it a 4. The nice room was the only reason I give the hotel a 2 and not a 1. For the price we paid I was very disappointed in the hotels overall condition and would not stay there again unless it was for half the rate we paid. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Location, Location, Location"
Overlooking Hilo Bay with Old Town Hilo in the background, the Nani Loa has the best location in Hilo. Even our low priced room had a stunning, yet relaxing view. Continental breakfast in the lobby was an added bonus. Sure, the place could use renovating, but everything functioned well and was very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel has a lot of potential. They are working on it to bring it back to the condition to where it once was. Nice for what we paid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs some (a lot) updating."
No wifi unless you went to the lobby. If you had a laptop there was an ethernet cable that you could borrow so you could use your laptop in your room. We were told there was breakfast included, but what is included is coffee mini mini muffins and fruit punch. The breakfast items (fresh fruit, bacon, toast, sauage, potatoes and eggs were all on the same […] table as the "free" breakfast BUT there was a charge of $10 for that. One of the 3 elevators was disgracefully dirty. Nice wide hallways and big room and bath room. Our room was clean and we had a great view. The hotel is located in a beautiful spot if only they would paint it and make it look a little more attractive. In need of lots of maintenance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I will never stay at the Naniloa Hotel again until they do some serious renovations! It the bathtubs were dirty. The refrigerator was leaking something sticky. The AC was so loud that I couldn't sleep. We changed rooms twice and finally they gave us a better room. Very disappointed of the conditions this hotel is in!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Would not recommend this hotel to anyoneGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I read the reviews. Thought the renovations were done, I was wrong. If you want a renovated room you need to ask for one. I didn't find this out until Check out. "Lovely views, but not yet ready"
There is construction going on; the elevators are very slow; room service only replaces towels and dumps trash, noting else, including making the beds. It's a work in progress.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful location BUT facilities poor"
We had an excellent view BUT no WIFI in the room, had to go to the lobby along with the few others who were at the hotel. No chair in the room to relax - just a desk chair. TV not mounted properly and too high to watch easily from bed which was the only place to sit to watch. Policy to only change bedding every 4 days - so had to ask for clean sheets. […] Staff not well trained - was actually given a check-out bill that showed the Hotels dot com contract rates - not what we had paid Hotels dot com; Good for me - I got a refund of the difference. The woman who managed the "continental breakfast" line was slow to replenish the available food - she may have been the only one who WAS trained. Staff was nice-enough just not professional. Not a bad stay and probably very similar to the other 4 or 5 hotels in Hilo on the Bay. Will try to find a cottage or B&B next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointed Stay @ Naniloa"

"Not. Worth your money or time."

"Rehabs? What Rehabs?"
I know the Naniloa is undergoing rehabs but my stay was not great. I lived in Hilo last year and the building looks the same as it did then. My room reservation was wrong and we had to move once. They tried to make us move again but I fought that. They gave me a room key that didnt work and the front desk management needs alot of work. The shower curtain […] had mold, the "rennovated" tub was too high and I had to climb in to shower. The bottom sheet on the bed was dirty and had spill spots. The sliding doors to the balcony were heavy and dirty. Not the best stay :-/ Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay for a night"
I wouldn't recommend staying here more than a night. The hotel is run down. Phones in the room don't work, the shower head fell off and almost whacked me, the pool is a joke, the elevators are slow and loud. We thought we entered the twighlight zone. I'm sure it was beautiful back in its heyday, but it definitely needs lots of TLC! The continental breakfast […] consists of mini muffins, toast, coffee, water, juice. For an extra $10! you can get a plate of rice, hash browns, bacon, eggs, fruit. At least the staff was friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cross between a dorm room and a sanitarium"
This hotel has VERY little in it's rooms. I asked for a refurbished room as they are upgrading. When we walked in, we were shocked. It felt very cold (not temperature cold). It did have 2 beds. There was also a chair in there. The room looks like they began to upgrade it but ran out of money. I will not ever stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our other accommodations fell through so we had to find something within a couple of hours of check-in. When we first arrived, their computers were down so we went out for dinner and cam back afterwards to check in. They are clearly under-staffed. They still had maids cleaning rooms as late as 7pm. Room was old and bare despite nice harbor views. This […] could be a great hotel with a little TLC. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is located in a great spot close to the airport! It's under renovation, so its a little noisy at times but overall it looks like they have been doing alot of work! All around just okay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful location - horrible condition!"
This hotel is badly in need of remodel! There was no light in the bathroom sink area making it very difficult to apply makeup. The TV was the only thing on any of the walls. The chest of drawers was a prime example of 60's furniture. The drapes are paper thin allowing both the night lighting and sun to shine in and considering that one whole wall is […] glass that's a lot of light. There were lights out in the hallway leading to our room making it a very long creepy walk to our room. There is no bar or restaurant on the grounds. When asked the Front Desk told us there is nothing available within walking distance. I would not suggest this hotel for women traveling alone! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Sorry, my last review was for a hotel we stayed at in Maui. This hotel has been purchased out of bankruptcy and is undergoing renovation. We were treated very well and given an oceanview free upgrade. We were looking for a cheaper place for our 4-day stay and it met our need. No tiki bar or outdoor restaurant dining. Rocky shore, pool needs updating. […] Will be a beautiful, exclusive hotel when restored to its former beauty. "Good hotel for the money"
Good hotel for the money. Great location, clean room. Shower head was a bit dysfunctional in the fact that it punted straight down and couldn't be adjusted position-wise, so you had to stand right next to the wall, but other than that hotel was fine for the price.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Definitely a cheap motel"
Wasn't too impressed with the room. Service was great but the room was horrible. Tv didn't work, bathroom pocket door wouldn't close, phone was out of service and there were only enough plug ins for the lamp, clock, tv and refrigerator, no extra. Plus no wifi in room and what was available in the lobby wasn't accessible. For the price in Hilo I would […] have at least expected the tv to work and have outlets for charging phones. great hotel for the priceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a case of ideal location and we had to book due to a miss-communication with a rental elsewhere. It does look rather run-down, but the price and location pretty much made up for that. The walls are pretty thin between rooms (and the floors are all tile, which echos) so you can hear the people next door relatively clearly. The bathroom in our […] room was totally renovated and was nice. The beds were older and kind of sunken in, but I still slept relatively well. We only used the hotel for showering and sleeping, so it wasn't a big deal. It was close to downton Hilo as well as the beaches in the area, and they have A/C which was a must. It definitely beat camping in the jungle with the Coqui frogs, which was our other option. We even got a bay view room and could see a couple whales playing just outside the bay from our room. I'd stay here again if I'm in a bind and I need to book a last minute hotel for 3 nights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good if all you want is a bed for the night"
I don't know what came first before us, house keeping to clean the room or the cockroach on the bathroom ceiling. Although there was a phone in the room, the sign on the front desk said they didn't work so I disposed of the insect myself. The room appeared freshly painted and was comfortable for a short stay. The bathtub drain did not drain the morning […] shower until much later. When we returned to the room after a dinner out it was dark outside and so was the hallway. One light lit the our hallway further down and we had to press our face against the door to find our correct room number. The hotel and complex is old, exterior paint would go a long way, however if all you want is bed for the night, it will do. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I didn't like being charged an additional $50 damage deposit after pre paying the room. The room was sealed with no windows for ventilation. A good view of the ocean, volcano ,and park from our room on the 9th floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
There was a cockroach in the bathroom. The linens seemed clean but old and not very comfortable. The blanket was clean but old and thin. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but not a pillow top (firm mattress). The room windows needed washing. The light would not turn on right away. The laundry facilities were dirty. There is pain chipping off the walls. […] The elevators are old. The floor numbers are hand written with permanent markers on the edge of the elevator to indicate what foor you are on. Hotel is older and shows some signs of wear, but seems to be in the process of upgrading. The room was GREAT and was recently remodeled along with the common areas of the 6th floor. "We Knew What we were Getting"
The hotel has no real services, and we knew that from reviews we read. We had a a corner ocean front room that was amazinginly decorated and the views were to die for and the price was amazing. "Run down Hotel in Great Location"
We needed a place in Hilo on short notice-at Christmas there is not much to choose from. We knew what we were getting into based on online reviews. For the price, this hotel actually was OK. The hotel was recently foreclosed, and is under new ownership. The hotel is terribly rundown, but our room, and especially the bathroom, was very clean, so we were […] pleasantly surprised. It rained heavily in Hilo, but we expected that. It was easy to get to Akaka Falls, the Hilo farmers market, and Volcano National Park from this location, so we were happy. We also saw turtles and tropical fish from the shoreline at the hotel-and although I looked for, and did not see a NeNe in Volcano, one appeared at the hotel! So, while I am not in a hurry to return to this hotel, it did suit our needs, and I did not regret staying here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice room, Adequate hotel"
Adequate hotel, under renovations. The room was lovely, clean and freshly renovated. The rest of the hotel was a bit worn and several areas were unfinished. My recommendation to the hotel is that first impressions are important. lobby could use some organization and upgrades, and a big sign that says "under renovation" so that guests would understand […] the efforts to upgrade.
