Hotel is being renovated. Website states that they provide free wifi - they do- but wifi only works in the guest lounge- not in the rooms. Ok hotel overall! Elevator begs for renovation. Nice staff and clean rooms

No internet connection.... The doors of the washroom don't have locks..... No curtains.... Sliding doors instead of curtains which made the room a storage space when they are all closed.... Will never recommend to anyone

We had to book a hotel on Christmas Eve because we had such a bad experience at the hotel at which we had been staying. Not only did we get a reservation right away, the check-in staff let us check in very early because we had experienced such an inconvenience elsewhere. Any low ratings are because the hotel was under construction. When it is fully renovated, we will not hesitate to return.

Pleasant experience overall. Rooms were a fair price; close to the center and beautiful gardens and walking paths. Not luxurious if that is what you are looking for this is not for you but I would stay there again.

Under renovation. Noisy hotel since all walls floors and surfaces are hard tile. Got to know my next door neighbor really well even though I never met him. No phone, bring your cell phone. Awful hand held shower would not stay i place so you could use it. Floors were filthy as was the toilet. Go elsewhere or get a tent and a sleeping bag. You will be better off.

The Naniloa might be nice some day if they ever finish working on it and spend the money needed to complete all the work needed. Right now, Spartan is a generous description. No phone, or coffee maker in the rooms. No free breakfast or restaurant. Slow elevators, and doors to stairways that slam so loud, they would wake the dead. The mattresses are saggy.

I stayed with my mum and auntie in Hilo while traveling the island. We decided on the hotel because we needed a reasonable accomodation because of the rain ( we camped a lot during our stay). The hotel is nicely located. At the time of our visit they were remodeling the hotel and thus there was construction noise and not everything was so smooth. But once they will be done it should be really nice!

This is a convenient hotel close to downtown Hilo. Relatively inexpensive and clean. Nothing fancy, perfect place to spend the night after a few days hiking Mauna Loa... Check out time at 12 is a plus.

The hotel is under renovation, so some issues have to be expected, however, it looks like the construction company doing the job is not familiar with the special needs of an hotel, as many details just dont make sense, for excample, stone floor in the hall way and in the rooms let you hear every step of every person around you. the vanity is half the size of the sinc, why? Ther is enough space, just overall many design flaws. Anyway, the view was nice and the staff is helpful and nice, but on arrival on the front desk no explanation where was what located. I had to ask for an ice cooler, it came empty without a lid, no chairs in the room, not even oin the desk, did ask for that and got one. Bath tub wall is a half a food higher then bathtub, why? Makes is hard to get in and out. no phone in the rooms, internet with cable did not work in the room. Again the stuff was really friendly and if they fix these issues this could be a nice reasonable place to stay.

Room needed thorough cleaning. Ceiling fans had black dust on blades, lamp had " dust bunnies" on shade, hot water on at certain times, no telephone, and surprise " fees" at checkout time. Should get costs before check in to avoid surprises at check out.

Formerly grand hotel is currently getting a facelift. Nice staff tries hard. If location matters to you, this place can't be beat. Ocean view rooms have spectacular view of Hilo Bay

The parking was plentiful. The hotel was undergoing renovation as it was quite old as the room had an moldy odor. The bathroom was nice and the employees were very nice and friendly. The room only had one chair and no balcony so it was not really comfortable. Since the price was quite reasonable, I did not complain.

I LOVED this hotel! You could definitely tell it was a great, high quality place in its day, although it's a little run down and going through some renovations now. The only complaint I have is with the bath tub. Although I was initially excited about the look of the tiled tub and the prospect of taking an actual bath, the tub did not plug and there was mold on the shower curtain. The room was very spacious and nicely decorated with a great view! Love, love, love this place!! I travel to Hilo regularly and will definitely stay here again!

The hotel is in a beautiful part of Hilo and could easily be resort quality if it was given a complete facelift. Dated, worn and cold decor gave it a 1970's feel. On the plus side, it was right on the bay on a beautiful banyan tree-lined road, and it was reasonably priced. A great place to base you Hilo stay if you have no reason to hang around the hotel.

This is absolutely the worst hotel that we had stayed ever which you can tell by the time that we entered the lobby. First, this is really not a hotel, yet. I was sharing a locked door with my neighbor which really makes my wife paranoid. What she did is put out luggage right close to the door in case somebody went into our room while we are sleeping. Second, since, this is a barely hotel with shared door between neighbors, the noise/voice from your next door is really annoying. They should really work on the sound proof issue. Third, there is no single chair inside the room, you have to grab the chair from balcony to seat. Fourth, TV is on an very high position. Who came up with the idea of putting the TV close to roof anyway? Stupid.

This is by far the worst hotel I have every stayed in during my 65 years! The floor was dirty, there was no one to help with luggage, there was no ice, the tub had hair wrapped around the drain, there was no chair, no phones or wifi in the room, lots of bugs in the light fixtures, no light at all at the "desk", & the air vent in the room was on the wall 6 inches above the head of the bed so the air blew directly in your face!! I could go on & on, but won't bother. I would suggest you not stay here! I understand the place is under renovation, but these things have nothing to do with that!

The Naniloa is in a state of turmoil. Kind of being renovated, kind of not. When we got off the elevator to go to our room, it felt like a parking structure. There were no phones in the room, the decor of our "remodeled" room was sparse and cold at best. The bathroom was nice but the shower curtain stunk like mold and there was mold on the ceiling above the shower. The hotel didn't have any Room service, restaurants, or bar.. No WiFi in room, only in lobby which was very inconvenient. The reason we stayed is that the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the view was unsurpassed. We overlooked Coconut Island, Queen Lili-u Okalani Park, the bay, and Mauna Kea beyond.. So beautiful! There is no jacuzzi and the pool is so small.

Te hotel was shabby and dirty in a lot of places. The public water faucet was rusty, the ice room was disgusting. The elevator smelt and the wood was shabby. There were leaks in the reception area. I would not stay here again or recomend it. One more thing, some people were making a lot of noise and screaming at about midnight.

It was a nightmare being in this hotel. We had arrived late in the afternoon. Only one clerk at the Reservation desk. When we got to the room, no phone, no microwave, no furniture only the bed and lamps. The TV was on the top of the closet where it was hard to see. We had to bring in the patio chairs and table to have our meals. Bugs were all over the ceiling and it was really hard when they turned the water off for four hours and the power off for four hours. No restaurants at all in the hotel or any other shops. If we had known this before booking this room, we would have stayed somewhere else. The clerk at the counter when we checked out didn't seem to ask if we had a good stay or not when we asked for a receipt.

This hotel is definitely older (still uses a metal key, could use some serious updates), but has it's own little charm and is in a great location. Calm, serene area. Don't expect anything extragavant - it's a place to sleep. It does smell older, but was clean. It was a quick night in and out for us, and it was exact what we needed. A place to sleep.

Very briefly the water was turned off for one day, the floors in the room were filthy, the beds were not made daily unless you ask for it, there was no room phone, construction work began at 7:00 a.m. (rotary hammer making loud impact noise), and staff are unwilling to make simple accommodations like changing the room to one that better meets the description in Expedia (i.e., "Bay Front" is not accurate as my room faced more toward the parking lot and other hotels and the bay was seen by looking sideways out the window).

The first day it was a little noisy as they are doing some renovations to the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and we dad a great view of Reeds Bay. I would like to commend Wendy, the front desk employee. She was helpful and friendly. The hotel was walking distance to many restaurants and sights. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The price is undeniable. The hotel probably was a great one a few years ago, but has since fallen in quality of the rooms, the condition, the staff. There is no linen changing for 3-4 days, the rooms smell odd, the AC makes loud noises in the night, overall, the hotel needs a face-lift. It didn't matter much to us because a large part of our day was spent traveling and site-seeing. If you're just looking for a cheap place to stay with beautiful views and a convenient location, this is it. Anything else would be asking for too much.

Elevators had a smell and maintenance could be doing better with cleaning. The room was plain and simple , clean and comfortable. No wireless internet in the room but who wants to stay on internet while on vacation. Overall a pleasant stay with ocean view and landscaping was wonderful kept. Convenient to airport and volcano park with area nice for a relaxing evening stroll with no worries about safety.

Parts of the building were under renovation--we couldn't even tell for sure that it was open when we arrived. The only good thing was that it cost way less than most. The elevators looked like crap with sheet metal screwed to the doors and then everything painted over. No shops, cafes or anything open in the building. Internet would not work in the room.

Needed to be on the Hilo side to visit family. After seeing price on Expedia I booked it. To my surprise, I was charged an additional $100 for the 4th person my 15 year old son! Most will not charge for a minor child. For this price I could have booked with newly renovated hotel next door. It is unthinkable that Expedia does this. Hotel is not in great shape. Will be interesting to see after the renovation. Would be great to hear from Expedia on this extra person (4 ? ). When I checked in the front desk told me I should have called them first they would have beat the price.

Most gorgeous view, right on the water! The hotel exterior and elevator was dingy, but they were painting, so it will be done soon. We enjoyed our stay!

It's like they started renovations 20 years ago and then just decided to stop. Very empty ghostly feeling about the entire place. Barely saw any other guests. Closed buildings, wooden elevator, and just overall horror movie vibe about the whole thing. Do yourself a favor and stay at a bed and breakfast or sleep on your rental car.

After reading some reviews and talking to others, i didn't have high hopes of a nice, clean stay. I'm happy to say i was very pleasantly surprised! My 6th floor room was clean and neat; comfortable beds and nice view of the bay. A few small negatives: no phone in the room. Luckily i had my cell phone to call front desk for questions about check-out time and amenities (couldn't find any amenity info in the room like i find in most hotel rooms). Another is no wi-fi in the rooms, although it's free in the lobby. Overall I was very happy with the room, low rates and friendly service.

They change bedsheets every 4th day. You have to notify front desk every day, if u want housekeeping to make your bed, otherwise they will simply change towels and take garbage. No microwave in room. Very small refrigerator. No phone in room (use your cell to contact front desk). Wifi only in the main lobby (not in rooms). Very dirty outdoor pool.

Very old and outdated hotel and hotel rooms. You also have to pay to park here... Conveniently located but needs remodeling badly.

I upgraded to an Ocean View. Unfortunately, there was a huge tree in front of our room blocking our "View". Wanted a wake up call. Problem--no phone in room. Also, the sliding door did not lock

Thr description regarding amenities of the hotel description is a little misleading. It says Free Wi-Fi. ..its free but you have to go downstairs to use it. They've no phones in the room which is really odd to me. The elevators smell. I know its under renovation which is fine but those are the most things that bothered me. Other tan that it was clean the staff was nice.

Understand hotel was gong to be, or under renovation. However, we still paid regular price for the room which was sub par due to "renovating". No room phone. For room service of any form, you need to use your cell phone (if you own one) to call the hotel for assistance. Or, you can walk downstairs to the front desk. TV reception was TERRIBLE...all channels were snowy, some, to the point you could not see the picture. NO ice machine available. You need to go to front desk to pick up ice if you wanted. Was disappointed we were still charged regular rate for a sub par experience.

The tub drain was clogged and there was no phone in the room to call maintenance. We left the room in the morning and when we got back at 2:30, our room was not cleaned yet.
