The hotel is in the heart of DT portland. Overall its a okay hotel, employee were very nice. The room itself is old, tin walls and bed are comfy. I wish there was better lighting in the rooms and the bathroom.

The room was perfect. Spacious, old world feeling, great TV screen. As a wheelchair user, I was delighted with the very functional bathroom with roll in shower. I found out when checking out the next day that shower chairs are available for whose who request them. You should toot your own accessibility horn more-- really advertise amenities you offer […] to guests with disabilities. For travelers with mobility impairments (think rapidly aging population), it's like pulling teeth to get basic access info, especially when using a discount website. I chose The Benson first because of a rave review on this site by a disabled traveler and second by location and terrific rate. The staff treated us with much courtesy, even though our room wasn't ready for check-in when it should have been. They asked for our phone number and called less than an hour later. The room was comfortable, the lobby is beautiful.

A nice place in great location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cozy and comfy lobby but a bit worn and often crowded. The beautiful old woodwork and finish in lobby is marred by the mix of modern travelers, many of whom cause the decorum to border on rii-raff. Great rooms and weekend breakfast a treat!

We always enjoy the Benson. Downtown location has many pluses, but does take some getting use to all the noise. The room seemed to be subject to some hotel noise, but all of that was a minor distraction.

Most everything about our stay was good. The service was great, the room was clean, the location was convenient to everything, and the hotel has a lot of character. The only drawbacks are that it is indeed a historic hotel, so the rooms are very small compared to what we've been used to at more modern west coast hotels. Also, the walls seem to be pretty […] thin. At one point I could hear my neighbor lowering their blinds - usually considered a fairly quiet activity. Conveniently, though, they had pairs of earplugs waiting in the nightstand. The only other thing I would mention, and this is entirely a matter of preference, but the beds have a memory foam topper. My husband and I sleep warm and prefer a little bit more support, so it would've been preferable to have a classic spring mattress. The property is beautiful and well maintained. Location is perfect with access everywhere. Our room upgrade was very reasonable and we were very comfortable. Only complaint is the bathroom vent should have been dusted! But the staff was absolutely fantastic and going out of their way to make guests welcome.

My girlfriends and I had a great time. It is close to walking to most everything and the windows open. I would have to say that they should let people know that they let DOGS of all kinds in there an that if you are allergic or scare you will not enjoy your stay at all!

This hotel is clean quiet and was a very enjoyable stay. Parking was super easy located directly across Broadway and cost $23/night with in and out. Hotel is convenient to all neighborhoods. Great stay would stay again and recommend.

Clean and comfortable room with excellent bathroom. Elevators and aisles were kind of old and not with a good ilumination. Would not feel that clean before getting to the room. Very beatuiful lobby, but it was packed everyday, making it quite hard to get a place and some drinks (even though we managed to do it a couple of times).

What a Fabulous place. GREAT beds, nice rooms, and Fantastic people!! Cordell, the Bellmen, is a true asset to the Hotel. The room wasn't ready when we got there but, then when they were ready the lady at the front desk actually took us up stairs to show us the rooms so we could pick! Will diffidently do again!

The Benson is a very nice hotel and must have been luxurious in its hay-day. The rooms are clean and very comfortable albeit a bit old. The tub is deeper than at most hotels, so if that's your thing, it's quite nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. The lobby has a faint barbecue smell which probably comes from the Gaucho restaurant next door.

I loved the fact that when I called to ask for rose petals and wine I was treated with respect. Upon arriving on our honeymoon I loved the room.
