"Pleasant staff and a good stay"
The size of the hotel gave a very cozy feel, especially with the location being in the mountains. Immediately after entering the hotel I was greeted by a very pleasant woman at the front desk for check in. The room was clean but for all the furniture in the area it was alittle tight and the beds were not super comfy. All in all the hotel experience […] was a good one and I would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"one of the worst hotels i ve been"
disappointed, not clean, v small room, will never come back againGenuine Expedia guest review
Upon arrival, found out that the two rooms that I booked were on different floors- even though I requested them to be together. Front desk said there was nothing they could do. Rooms are very small and hard to get around in. Overall, this room is not worth the price paid. Next year when I return to Wilkes Barre, I will book a different hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean with a beautiful view. staff was pleasant. I've had better continental breakfasts but this one was up there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A treat for one and all."
When I arrived at the Hotel and presented the copy of my reservation from Expedia....everything went like clockwork. The Staff on duty asked my name, also some identification and the whole matter was expedited in no time quick. It is a very nice Hotel and one that I would and could encourage others to utilize if and when in the area. Breakfast was also […] included and a bargain. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Quiet Evening"
When I arrived there appeared to be a wedding group staying at the hotel, which sometimes can be loud. I need not have worried. I heard no noise and had a great night's sleep. My only minor gripe was that the breakfast room was standing room only. Otherwise, the night's stay was very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Holiday Inn Express - Great stay for Casino visit"
From the moment at early check-in to check-out, staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and quiet. Complimentary shuttle to casino was great. Only ten minute wait on return trip. Will definitely stay here againGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good hotel, weird location."
This would be just another HI Express with good-sized clean rooms, ample free parking and decent free breakfast to get you started in the morning if not for the location. The hotel is situated on a hilltop next to I-81 and, although it is clearly visible from the highway, you need to navigate some twisting roads and made couple of less-than-obvious […] turns to get there from the exit ramp (my GPS, being 7-8 years old model, didn't even show anything there). More of a quirk than inconvenience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"stop over on long trip"
Beds were very uncomfortable, wireless service extremely slow and staff very curt.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Express Wilkes Barre East Thank you so very much for taking the time to write a review regarding your most recent stay. We are sorry to see that you did not have a very good experience while you were here. We always strive to ensure that we take care of each and every one of our guests and to provide them with a great overall experience. It appears that in this instance we have fallen short and for that we apologize. While everyone will have a differing opinion on what is a comfortable or uncomfortable bed and even things like the speed of the wireless internet is something we can't control, we can however address the fact that the staff came across as very curt. This is not the expectation that we have for our staff and it is certainly not the way we want our guests to feel when they interact with us. We want to apologize for that and will be sure that we remind everyone who works here that our main focus is to provide you the guest with a great hotel experience. That experience starts and ends with the way we interact with you. We appreciate the feedback and will use this as an opportunity to improve. Thanks again and we hope that in spite of your experience that you give us another opportunity to impress you the next time you are in the area.
"Make sure to get a room facing the mountains"
Overall this hotel was adequate, what we expected, the bed was not overly comfortable & the drapes didn't close so the sun wolk us early. Upon arrival the receptionist was rude, unwelcoming & had attitude which was totally uncalled for & unprofessional. The following day the rest of the staff we encountered were very nice however. The hotel is very […] clean. It's too bad that one staff member left a bad taste in our mouths. When we asked for a referral for a restaurant she was no help whatsoever. We ventured out to the outskirts of the town where we'd gotten off the exit & dined at an amazing restaurant called pazzo. It's a must! Our server, angelo, was fabulous & the meal was to die for! This would be just another HI Express with good-sized clean rooms, good beds, ample free parking and decent free breakfast to get you started in the morning if not for the location. The hotel is situated on a hilltop next to I-81 and, although it is clearly visible from the highway, you need to navigate some twisting roads and made couple of less-than-obvious turns to get there from the exit ramp (my GPS, being 7-8 years old model, didn't even show anything there). More of a quirk than inconvenience, really. Noise level is quite low, even in rooms facing interstate. Breakfast is standard North American hotel hot breakfast with pancake machine (instead of more common waffle maker) and turkey sausage in addition to usual pork one. It fully met our expectations.
"Clean, Friendly Staff"

We stayed one night during the holiday weekend. We booked online smoothly, once we arrived at the hotel we were warmly greeted by the desk clerk. Our room was clean, and comfortable. We did take advantage of the pool and hot tub the next morning, which was also clean and temperature were perfect. Breakfast was more than the normal waffles and cereal. We will surely stay at this location again. Casino is only a mile up the road.
"Great Time Had By All"

We needed a place to stay close to the Horse Track / Casino. I found good reviews about the Holiday Inn and they had a shuttle to the casino. A free shuttle! I made reservations for 4 rooms about 2 months in advance. 3 Days before we left, I received an email saying they cant wait to welcome us soon and please call with any requests. Wow. As much as I travel, I have never received that email. We arrived about 30 minutes before check in and we were greeted with a friendly staff and some amazing cookies. We were all upgraded from queen rooms to king for free. That was awesome. We didn't even ask and we were delighted. Our rooms were perfect. The view was great. I loved looking out and seeing the mountains in the background. I wouldn't want to drive up to the hotel in an ice storm because it is on a hill but that wasn't an issue while we were there. We all enjoyed some of those cookies at the front desk while I inquired about using the shuttle. I was told to just let them know within about 15 minutes of our requested departure time. We went to a nearby restaurant Leggio's for lunch. If your in the area and you have a chance... stop there. They have great food and a nice bar. We returned to the hotel and ordered up our shuttle for 7 and off we went to watch our horses race. We made a time for our driver to pick us up when the races were over. I would imagine in the busy season the shuttle may not always be available. However, the casino/ track is not that far away and would be an affordable cab ride if necessary. Our driver was so accommodating and we appreciated how he took care of us. Our rooms were clean, the beds were amazing, the bathrooms were nice sized. Each and every person in my party loved staying here. In the morning, we all met for our free breakfast and I was blown away. They had a pancake maker, sausage gravy, bacon, eggs, and turkey sausage. Not to mention all the breakfast breads and condiments you could possibly think of. That free breakfast saved us at least 80 dollars. We were on our way by 9am. I can not say enough about this hotel. The staff was awesome, the hotel is beautiful, and we have decided to go back at least twice a year.

Located close by the casino/racetrack in the Poconos. Clean and comfortable. Quiet rooms. Perfect for our stay. They have taxi service. We used this several times, didnt want to drink and drive. I highly recommend this hotel rather than the casino hotel, much more reasonable pricewise.
"Nice but there's room for improvement"
11/05/14 bluesdog New York City, New York
This HIE has a good vibe. It's up a winding hill road removed from any highway noise. The staff was very friendly and they offer free cookies, which all hotels should do if they want to make me happy. It is within minutes of 24 hour diners, decent restaurants, and shopping. The room came with a charming little bathroom featuring three-way angled mirrors and very nice shower pressure. That said, there are some minuses. My room had only two available outlets below the desk forcing me to unplug the microwave and/or fridge to accommodate other devices. The alternative was to move a heavy dresser and dig out the extension cord behind it. If you have multiple devices to power within easy desk access, it's a problem. The TV picture quality was poor for a flat screen; it was like watching on an old tube unit. There was also no plug and play capability for external devices like Roku or gaming consoles. It was possible to attach cables to ports in the back of the TV, but input switching was disabled. The bed was a bit springy compared to most modern hotel mattresses. It wasn't a terrible night's sleep; just not a great one. The bedding was clean but not soft -- unexceptional sheets and a flimsy comforter. The wifi was unreliable. Page loading tended to move at 3G speed, which is fairly typical in hotels unfortunately. I had a decent stay but this HIE doesn't compare favorably to other hotels at the same price point. I would give it two and a half stars but I am rounding up to three. Despite it's drawbacks, it seems well-managed and deserves another chance.

Easy to get to. Near Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs. Reasonably priced. decent breakfast, coffee was pretty good. Rooms were clean and bed was very comfortable. I gave it 4 out of 5 only because walls and floors do not block sound well. Was awaken at 4am thinking there was running water in the bathroom or something could be leaking. Nope it was someone showering in the room above us. The pipe to there drainage was in our bathroom ceiling with an open vent. Phew. Had a hard time falling back to sleep. Aside from that, everything was wonderful.
"Absolutely 100% Recommended Staying Here"

Thank you, Holiday Inn Express. The hotel is clean (love the lobby scent) and the front desk was friendly, welcoming, informative and helpful. (Happy employees is a great reflection on any establishment.) The room was perfect for our overnight stay in Wilkes Barre. Well-designed and thank you for having something as simple as great reading lights by the bed.
"Great for a Quick Visit"

I was only only for here for a quick overnight business trip, but the staff was very courteous and the room was fine. They have very reasonable rates for business travelers and a nice buffet breakfast.
"Nice spot for a group event"
09/23/14 PhillyGirl225 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Wish I could do 3.5 stars.... PROS: - Upgrade from Best Western to Holiday Inn has nicely refreshed a worn out hotel - Nicely renovated rooms and good work space - Staff in Bistro restaurant/bar very attentive and welcoming - Good food in the Bistro - full Breakfast buffet included in cost of room - Hosted a training event for 60 people and hotel staff did a great job of offering advanced ordering for lunch. Food was quickly delivered once guests were seated. CONS: - Upon arrival front desk staff more concerned about passing out paychecks to hotel staff than greeting and checking in a new guest. - Room keys failed during visit and front desk staff, while efficient, was less than friendly and offered no apology for inconvenience. I felt like I was interrupting them. - Air conditioning in Bistro was like sitting in a wind tunnel. Stuff was blowing off bar. Had I not had a jacket I could not have stayed to eat my meal. Overall much improved over worn out old hotel but a few improvements could make it way above average.
"Very Nice Refurbishment!"
09/23/14 Janet G Mississauga
Spent the night in this hotel at recommendation of a relative who lives in the area! The hotel has been recently refurbished and it has been done well! The room was nicely decorated and had a King size bed! A nice breakfast was included the next morning and wasn't the usual cold cereal , danish and old hard boiled eggs! Juice, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage a lovely french toast casserole. Only complaints, no fridge in the room you have to request one and the fan on the A/C was very noisy! Which to be fair we never complained about! Staff at the front desk had trouble locating our reservation but quickly found it and dispatched us to our rooms! Would definately recommend this if you are in the Wilkes-Barre, Scranton area!
