Although this hotel is not very upscale, and is a little outdated in terms of style and operational systems (they still do a lot via paper). The staff was friendly, the room was lovely, and the bed was very comfortable. The room had nice versions of all the basics you need- easily controlled heating, working minifridge, television, hairdryer. There […] was shelving near the bed and plenty of outlets. Plus the sink was outside of the bathroom, which is quite convenient. The shower was warm with great pressure. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The convenience can't be beat- the hotel is right in the heart of the downtown shopping area, making everything walking distance. Plus there's a cafe right in the hotel, as well as a couple of bars. The only thing that wasn't very convenient was the parking, which is a couple of blocks away and requires a swipe key, which for us did not work, before and after regular hours. We loved this boutique hotel in downtown Victoria. It was conveniently located and the room was lovely. It overlooked the harbor and had a wood burning fireplace (we didn't use it but it was all ready to go). The ONLY issue I had with the hotel was the condition of the American flag that was displayed on the front of the hotel. It was badly faded and […] in shreds. I spoke with the person at the desk and was told it will replaced along with all the other flags, including the Canadian flag, in the spring. I hope so - the American flag should NOT be flown in that condition. But the hotel was wonderful nevertheless - right across the street from The Bay, a wonderful shopping mall, and across the street from the Irish Times Pub with good food and music. Only a couple blocks from China Town and an easy walk to the British Museum and Imax theater and the Empress hotel and Parliament building. We will definitely return! Read more

You couldn't ask for a better location. I traveled solo and took a chance on this hotel through hotels.com on a special rate, having never even been to Victoria. Boy, was I surprised. Only about 20 minutes away from the airport and the shuttle drops you off right at the front. The front staff are all kind of uninterested in you and not very welcoming, […] but will follow up on your requests promptly. All of them were like this...weird. This is not the Ritz-Carlton, but the room is very comfortable and very nicely furnished. Relatively clean, but in need of some maintenance here and there, which I believe they are slowly accomplishing. (For instance, the tub in my room was very damaged/peeling and in need of resurfacing and the shower pressure wasn't horrible, but it wasn't fantastic either.) You can walk all over the place because the Bedford seems to be literally in the center of downtown. Multitudes of eateries, excursions, entertainment within a short walk. Even the bus hubs are close by! I heard of it being noisy on other reviews, but my room faced the harbor and was very quiet, although it faced other rooms, so be sure to close your windows up at night. The only thing I heard was someone warming up with a trumpet in the gay club upstairs...yeah. But, that being said, I would stay here again. It definitely served its purpose. If you want an older, independent hotel with character, and don't care about ultra-modern amenities, this hotel is a great choice. On our recent vacation to Victoria, we stayed in a room with a wood-burning fireplace and jetted tub on the second floor. The room was clean, quite large and comfortable with an excellent view of the bay and West Victoria. […] A few electrical outlets didn't work, but there were enough to keep our assortment of devices charged. No street noise at all, at least on the rear side of the hotel. Parking was a minor problem, as the parking garage for the hotel is a few blocks away, and our SUV was too tall. We ended up parking in a public lot behind the hotel for $35 per day. The location of the hotel was perfect for a walking tour of downtown. Almost everything we wanted to visit was within walking distance, and the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants, pubs and shops. We'll stay here again the next time we visit. Read more

Close to great places to eat, the downtown points of interest, several good walks and shopping. Only quibble was the low hot water pressure in shower. A real find!

The stay was OK until check out. We had over 40 local phone calls logged to our room when we had only made one. They credited our account and only charged us for the call that we made but it was annoying. Why don't they include local calls with the room rate and make life easier for all concerned. Hotel is in a great spot, close to shopping, restaurants, waterfront. Room was spacious and had extras like a fridge, coffee maker, etc... Very good for the price. Actual hotel lobby was sparse, with no extras, but there was a nice coffee shop located on the other side of the lobby that was very handy to get breakfast. Overall the Hotel was nice. We had problems everyday with the Wifi not working on the 3rd floor. The outside neighborhood is a little noisy but leaving the AC on filtered out the noise. There was no window view but the room was excellent. The bed was separated from the "living room" which was nice as I'm an early riser and my wife isn't. The toilet was conveniently located in its own room, with a heated floor. The tub was a jet tub which was very relaxing and fit both my wife and I. Definitely a place I'll stay again.

As a female travelling alone on a budget I tend to read reviews very carefully: I want to stay in a good part of any town, close to everything and with a room that's nice to be in because I tend to head back to the hotel in the early evening, and I must say some reviews of this hotel seemed harsh and I decided that people have become overly picky about […] pretty much everything because my 5 night stay at the Bedford was delightful in every way! The lobby is not thrilling, but really, is that important? I was on the 4th floor and had a bright, clean, cheerful and charmingly decorated room, I upgraded to the better quality queen and could not have been more happy with it. 2 large windows that opened, air conditioning, Jacuzzi tub, incredibly comfortable queen bed, sofa, desk and flat screen TV that swiveled to be viewed from sofa or bed. I had a view of the harbor and could hear seagulls; some were unahppy about that but for heaven's sake, you're 1 block from the water! I did not hear street, bar or alley noise--perhaps I was lucky. I especially liked the coffee bistro in the lobby, Caffe Artigiano, and the pub across the street, London Times. Head away from the touristy stuff on Government to find more intriguing ethnic food options and great local artisans for shopping, plus several used book stores, if that's your thing. I highly recommend the Bedford and hope to return soon! Read more

The ratings were pretty decent and I saw the option for a deluxe room. Skeptically, I went for it. Let's talk about awesome!
