"poor sound proofing"
Everything about the hotel was satisfactory except it is very easy to hear clearly what was going on in the next room and the room and be able to hear people walking around in the room above. I took a drive along the MIssissippi River and booked this hotel before I left. The reveiws made me skeptical, but I was only doing an overnight. Great location..easy on/off the highway. Front counter staff courteous and welcoming Breakfast - basic - bagels, toast, cereal, coffee, boiled eggs Hotel - Old BUT CLEAN I was on the 2nd floor (no elevator) […] the floor creaked when anyone walked down the halls. The walls and door not sound proofed where you looked whenever you heard a door open. The walls allowed you to hear the neighbors. I only needed to stay the night, then leave early in the morning. No frills, but again, only an overnight. If you can deal with the noise factor then by all means. I look at cleanliness and safety and for those they passed the test. "Good for a night stay"

Not bad for an overnight stay. Not a place to stay for the view unless you like self store lockers. Front desk was very nice and got me in right away. Beds are comfortable. Room decor is dated. TV's are old CRT type. Air conditioner worked just fine and are my favorite type where the fan always runs and air comes and goes as needed. Always hate the old type air where the fan turns on and off all night long. Room was clean but did have a slight oder. It is summer so turned the air down a bit and it took care of that problem. Rooms where very quite.

We were unable to unlock our doors with our room key. The night manager said that the doors needed repaired and offered us another room but on the second floor. I had my 80 year old father with me and didn't want the second floor.

The service staff at the hotel was great to work with. We came in at 11pm and got checked into our room in record time. The room was so-so and the bed was really uncomfortable, you could feel every spring and major depression in the middle (rm 241) . Place needs major updating but overall good value for the buck.

This is a nice hotel for the money. The location is good, near downtown and not far off the highway. Staff is friendly and helpful. Room was just ok. Long walk through the hotel to get to my room. It does need updating, old furniture and no comfortable chairs in the room.

I've been staying at the Howard Johnson's every other week since March and the staff is amazing. They remember who I am, remember what rooms work best for me and my family, and even have returned personal amenities forgotten at the previous visit. The hotel is older in decor and furnishings, but we have never had any issues with cleanliness or function. I recommend this hotel in terms of price, additional features like free wifi and breakfast, and the staff.

Was trying to save a little money and earn reward points so we booked here. Check in was fine. Room 212 had a funky smell. Later found that the window ledge is warped and wall paper peeling off wall by window because it got wet. Air conditioner was there and blowing funky smell probably from mold. First night had to ask for drug because there wasn't one in the room like booking said. Person had one there within 10 minutes. Bathroom was clean but stuff on bedroom ceiling I don't want to think about. Every time we flushed the toilet the first night it squealed loudly as it refilled. Windows open but covered in dust/dirt and cob webs. Parking spots are at a premium if you go out until later. Not horrible experience but probably not coming back.
"A mixed bag at first with a favorable outcome."
We arrived after a 12 hour drive, and went to get a burger and beer at my son's new bar/grill. We proceeded to eat, drink and be merry, and returned to our room after 1 a.m. We were tired and so ready for sleep until I pulled back the bed covers and observed one rather large, live ant. Further investigation revealed an entire army parading around the air conditioner/ window area. The night employee was hardly perturbed, and mentioned that there had been a problem with that room before and he was surprised it persisted. We did get a new room, bug free, although the ewwwness of the bugs ruined a good night sleep. The next morning, at 9:10, the breakfast which was supposed to be over at 9:30, was in need of replenishing. The day employee was a little snippy when I requested such, however, proceeded to get it done. Later I explained to her that the buggy room had already ruined my opinion of this property, and withe the breakfast thing, now this is two strikes. We had a conversation which culminated in her apologizing, smiles and a refund for a night's stay. In the end, A day after checking out, we were one phone charger short. A drop in at the hotel turned up the charger, secured in a labeled plastic bag. As I sad, a mixed bag, however, resolved pleasantly and with recovery of my property. Shift happens when you travel, and if issues can be resolved satisfactorily for both business and customer.

The person behind the desk had no clue what he was doing. It took forever for him to check us in and then he couldn't find us a room. He had to keep looking and looking to find us a room, luckily I had my confirmation with me. He asked us so many questions and finally when everything was done he gave us the keys to the room. Get to the room and the key didn't work. Went back to him and he wrote the wrong room number on our key holder paper. Go back to the room, and then get a phone call asking if we accidently took the form we filled out with us. I told him we never filled out a form. (he never gave us one to fill out) He then asked me to come back to the desk to fill it out. I did that and then he said he needed my credit card again. So I had to go back to the room again and get it. I never had such terrible service before. When we got back to the hotel from the wedding we attended, a new person was at the desk. They asked me if I was from room 114 and i said yes. He then handed me a bag and said they forgot to give it to me when we checked in. It was a welcome bag with some goodies in it from the wedding family which was suppose to be given to us at check-in. How sad was that, get the welcome bag at midnight I don't think I would ever stay at this hotel again, what a disaster to just check in. The rooms were so out dated and we found things on the floor that was left from other people that stayed in the room. For example, bottle caps. Very, very sad for what we paid for that room. The pressure from the water when I took a shower was terrible, it was so low that I didn't think I was going to be able to get the soap out of my hair. And to top it off, our air conditioner wouldn't work right. Very, very sad.

My wife and I decided to take a little road trip and after reading previous posts on tripadvisor we decided to give this hotel a try...the wyndham rewards program worked well for us here in that the points needed per night were extremely favorable...Coffee was always available at the front desk area and our room was very quiet..The breakfast was good and to be honest we felt like we were being treated as royalty...
