The hotel staff is very helpful and dedicated. The hotel is average for a college town, clean and well maintained but showing its age. The free breakfast is a good deal, and usually well stocked. My reservation was for a queen bed and they gave us a room with a full size bed. The pillows are extremely small and square shaped... think about cutting a normal pillow in half and that is what they were like (and very flat!). It call was a nice hotel but they had a 150 hold on my card and it wasn't made clear that it would have been. The gentlemen at the front desk was nice until asked about the charge and he seemed irritated with me for asking. For the rest of my stay he was avoiding talking to me. This hotel wasn't on the begbugs registry (and was bed bug free for the 10 days I stayed there), a big plus. The free wi-fi was fast, but a bit spotty. The front desk wasn't always manned when I went by, but when it was, the people were friendly and efficient. I really liked the convenience of a computer and laser printer in the lobby. The room itself […] had two double beds, both of which were somewhat unforgiving, but not terribly so. The room was clean and the furniture in good shape. Although there were three light sources in the room (desk lamp, floor lamp, and wall light), the room seemed dim and the lightbulbs emitted a ghostly white light because they were all CFLs. There were a variety of good eat-in and takeout options (those University of Maryland kids are lucky!). Overall, I was satisfied considering the affordability of the rate. If I were to return to DC, I would probably try a different hotel. We stayed at a Comfort Inn in PA on the same trip, and that hotel was nicer than this one even though we paid less there. We considered requesting another room but ultimately decided we could tolerate it for one night. Our room was adjacent to the elevator and across from a meeting […] room, both of which were noisy. (Thankfully, there was less activity after 10:00 p.m.) The room was also below street level, and the whole floor generally smelled musty. The bathroom door could not be closed completely, and the floor of the tub was strangely squishy and creaky, giving the impression that one might fall through at any moment. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were unusually small and square. The decor was unexceptional. The pool was located next to the parking lot; it was smaller than the photos suggested but sufficient for a dip in hot weather. The breakfast was the standard plain fare (bagels, coffee, juice, yogurt, etc.), but the room it was in was small and crowded. First off when I checked in I was told there was someone in my room. When I asked to just be switched to a different room, I was told "No" b/c the hotel was sold out. Had to wait while someone went to room to check it out. Was afraid a stranger would try to get in the middle of the night so didn't sleep well. Got off the elevator 2 floors below lobby […] (ground floor) and the moldy/mildew smell hit me in the face! Carpet was stained and room even felt damp although it appeared clean. Was afraid to touch anything! The hot breakfast bar was just ok - eggs were instant and watery, bacon undercooked but at least they had protein which many hotel breakfasts don't have. Housekeeper came in w/o knocking at 8:00am Saturday morning even though I was staying until Monday. She could have been cleaning check-outs and leaving stay-overs until later in the day. The room was incredibly musty smelly!!! Dust and hair in every corner!!! The shower knob was impossible to work , instead of being fixed there was a sign to "pull out"...but could not pull it out!!! The room had a tv but with no guide! Overall dissatisfied with our stay!

Only one clerk to attend to guess needs. She seemed to have some difficulty registering the guest. I reported that the Air Conditioning Unit in Room 821 was not working at 9:30 PM. The clerk said maintenance would be up to repair in a few minutes. No one ever showed up. The unit quit completely at 10:30 PM. No one ever came by to fix problem. Our room was very nice. The staff was especially accommodating, allowing us to use the breakfast room (at night) as a space to sort 10 boxes of family pictures among the in-laws. Nice workout room and the breakfast was better than expected with some protein and healthy options. Even the coffee was OK.
