Came here on our honeymoon 14 years ago, and returned this time with two kids. Just as pleasant both times. Quite simply the best vacation resort I've ever stayed in.

This is a fairly large resort, yet it didn't feel overrun with people. The pools are open 24 hours, which I think is an extra benefit of staying here. The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was crowded and just ok, but the breakfast at the Clubhouse was terrific.

Horrible service. Dirty rooms I even once ha to ask if they had done room service because there were no replacement towels or clean cups and they said they had come already !! We were groom and bride and given the smallest room that we couldn't even get ready with our people separately of course. Several people asked were their rooms were and had responses […] of rolling eyes. It is very confusing at first when you arrive to the hotel so usually you ask where your room is and the hotel staff is incredibly rude. Takes forever to eat at buffet. Wait in lone 30 minutes to sit and another 20 to get your omelette. I hated my stay here and thought that I definitely should have gotten married at four seasons. Wonderful pool and lagoon for kids to swim in. Beach not best for swimmers due to big waves and rocks on bottom but beaches are right down the road. Our stay at the Kauai Grand Hyatt was superb. The hotel is in great shape, our room was nice and clean, and the grounds were spectacular. With two boys ages 7 and 9, the expansive never-ending pool kept us busy for a whole week when we weren't off the resort exploring. The Grand Hyatt Kauai was a first rate experience! Everyone we encountered (check-in, maids, valet, clerks, waitresses, etc.) were all so friendly and helpful. The grounds are emaculate and beautiful with great ocean views. We have 2 kids (ages 13 and 10) and they loved the huge winding pools, water slide, and salt water pools. They were able to feed […] the koi in the morning and hold one of the parrots. There is a small beach directly in front of the pools, but the waves are rough, so it's not recommended for swimming. In the evening, the hotel offered entertainment, guitarist, vocalist, keiki hula, etc. on the terrace just outside the foyer. Our room, partial ocean view, was large and clean with a spacious sink area. The furnishings appeared to be fairly new. We ate at the dockside cafe,.. sandwiches, wraps, hot dogs, etc., which was good and reasonably priced. Our last morning, we had the breakfast buffet at the Ilima Terrace. The buffet was pricey, but the setting was beautiful and they offered a huge assortment of breakfast items...made to order omelets, bacon/sausage, kalua hash browns, pancakes, eggs, miso soup, cereals, pastries, yogurt, cheeses, bagels, fruit, etc. The hotel is conveniently located near a shopping center, restaurants, and great beaches. We were there the last week of May 2012 and stayed in a double queen bed partial ocean view room (they are bigger than the king bed partial ocean view, and we had 5 and 7 year old kids, so bigger was better. Every aspect of the hotel was top notch and inviting. The staff was always very kind and resourceful. The pool area is amazing for adults and kids […] (24hr hot tubs, lazy river with waterfalls, waterslide). Restaurants were very expensive ($18 breakfast entrees) so we used the local grocery and room fridge a lot. Winds were 20+ MPH, so we couldn't use the shipwreck beach, but found other places on South Shore and North Shore for kids snorkeling. Great local hike West from the hotel beach to watch the sunrise. We saw overcast, rain, wind and sun throughout each day, so just wait a few minutes if you prefer some other type of weather! Hard not to keep raving about this place. Memorable experience. The Staff at the Hyatt was Excellent as well as the property itself. This was our first trip ever to Hawaii and we were very impressed with the Resort and all it had to offer ! We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai! We found the hotel staff very friendly, our room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel grounds were beautiful. Our package included breakfast, which allowed us to fill up on made to order omlettes, fresh fruit, and a wide variety of breakfast items. The staff on the Ilima Terrace […] made us feel welcome, and were interested in what we had planned for each day, even if the only plan was to occupy a lounge chair by the pool. We enjoyed plenty of pool time, spa time, and the easily accessable Poipu Beach. The Luau was entertaining - a fun night under the full moon and palm trees with plenty of Mai Tais. Stevenson's library offered great drinks and live entertainment. At the end of our stay, we had booked a catamaran adventure/snorkeling tour of the NaPali Coast. Knowing that we would not return until after check-out time, we made arrangements with the front desk to hold our luggage. They also offered the use of a hospitality suite so that we could shower and clean up before departure to our next destination, which was a welcome service. We highly recommed the Grand Hyatt Kauai. Our experience at the Grand Hyatt Kauai was fabulous! We were very impressed with the grounds, rooms, and quality of service. Having a car rental desk on site was excellent. If you have a late flight on the day of your checkout, they provide you with a hospitality room for about 45 mins. So, you can plan something during the day and come back and freshen […] up before heading to the airport. The pools are amazing!! The beach is not good for swimming, but beautiful nonetheless. Poipu beach is nearby and good for swimming. The food at the hotel was great. We enjoyed the breakfast buffett and they have one fine dining restaurant which was really good. We would like to have had at least one other restaurant onsite that provided casual dining. Otherwise, you need to go offsite which was nice because then you can experience popular dining areas like Brennecke's, Puka Dogs, and Kalapaki Joes. My boyfriend and I recently returned home from The Grand Hyatt on Kauai, and we had the time of our lives there. The restaurants had delicious food (though the breakfast buffet at the terrace restaurant was a bit high at 30$ a person) and the pools were spectacular. There wasn't a great area on the beach right in front of the hotel for lounging because […] there were a lot of rocks that lined the shore, but if you walked down the beach for about mile you could be at one of the most popular beaches on the island (Poipu). We booked in November and got a great air/hotel deal at 1200$ a person (and 200$ of that was just tax). The rooms were great, and though this doesn't pertain directly to the hotel, we were able to rent mopeds to drive around the island on from a local company out of Poipu (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) :) we had a blast. My wife and three children 2,5,7 just returned from a week at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai. We had a great famly time and the hotel is very nice BUT there are things you need to know before you plan your vacation there. I base my comments on more then a dozen trips to Hawaii and include my experiences in hotels that range from two star to five star like […] the Ritz in Maui and Four Seasons in Lanai and Kona. Physically the hotel is in excellent shape. Rooms are updated, nice comfortable furniture, modern bathrooms,a small lanai for outdoor sitting. Front desk staff were polite but not super nice.They didn't appear to love their jobs or just were not that excited about working there.There is one great thing about the Grand Kauai Hyatt and one Lousy thing. What is awesome are the pools and swimming lagoon. Lazy river, adult pool, multiple hot tubs, good lounge chairs, great towels and a great slide for kids of all ages - cannot be beat. The ocean side beach Lagoon is an acre of swimming & kayaking which and is fun & safe for young children. The DOWN side THE food. Very high priced and mediocre. Breakfast buttett $125 for a family of 5 and was just okay. Pool side lunch just not good if you are a foodie like my wife and I.My kids couldn't care less but the Hyatt served junk burgers and absurdly advertised the overpriced Campbells Bottom line: nice and I will go back but next time I will shop for some food at Costco on the way from Lihue to the hotel. We took our daughters to Kauai and found the Hyatt's on-site amenities including pool, koi ponds, saltwater lagoon, and access to hiking trails to be too lovely. Our girls rarely wanted to go off-site with us as a result but when we did, the hotel's Poipu location was ideal again for easy snorkeling and swimming with sea turtles near Prince Kuhio Beach. I have visited in the past and the room quality was degraded some what based on the Hyatts standards. Towel quality and linens were a down grade from what I had experenced before. I also got a comment from a waitress's because I did't tip 20 percent. very inflated drink prices so bring a ton of cash.

We found two roaches in our room upon check-in. Given that Kauai is a very tropical climate, bugs are common....but they should not be in the rooms! However, the efficient and timely way in which they remedied the situation (they offered to spray and deep clean the rooms, offered to move us to another room, moved us to another room within 15 minutes […] and ordered cookies and room service to our room as a consolation) was key! For families, the FREE laundry facilities (open 24 hrs) was a bonus ...we were in Hawaii for 10 days and there are only so many pairs of pajamas you can pack for two kids right? Other hotels usually charge upwards of $10 to launder each item of clothing! So this was great. The pools were great. Not to small, not too big and the water was fairly warm (about 78 degrees?) even in mid-January so great for kids of all ages. We especially loved the salt water lagoon for our young kids (ages 1 and 3). The sand is a bit rough being it's man made but the plus factor was that it didn't follow you back to the rooms. -Very friendly and helpful staff -First glimpse of hotel lobby with the spectacular framed view of the ocean is breathtaking -I don't have children but definitely a very family/children oriented place, not to say guests without children cannot enjoy themselves freely -Ilima Terrace for breakfast is great especially if you get a table right near the […] koi pond. The swan gliding on this pond is a nice touch with views of the palm trees and sweeping seascapes -Tidepools, their signature restaurants is amazing. Their crabcake appetizer is all crab. Ate there 3 times. -Stevenson Library (named after Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson) is a great place to chill after dinner or later in the evening with a martini or your drink of preference. Live music, a substantial looking bar, and a billiards table rounds out this wood-paneled "study." It also offers light fare such as some sushi selections. -The salt water lagoon is a great place to take a cooling dip after the sun has pushed you to the limit. The sun is hot here! -Shipwreck beach is beautiful. Not a swimming or snorkeling beach unless you are an expert swimmer. Great to picnic or read or get some sun, or frolic in the sand, maybe dip you feet into the waters, but mostly a surfing hot spot for seasoned surfers. No beginners here. Po'ipu beach will offer swimmers and snorkelers an opportunity to enjoy the wonders of the sea and it is a 5 minute drive away or if you're up for it about a mile or two walk. Read more

Loved the feeling of looking from my balcony to the lush grounds towards the ocean. The property was amazing. I feel they need to open a morning place to gather and have a mimosa or bloody Mary, coffee or breakfast by the lagoon. No alcohol is served till 11:00am. Loved the relaxed feel I experienced spending time at the resort.

Our first meal at the Seaview resturant and then again at The Dock had us questioning our choice, but Tidepools and Dondero's made us forget the others very quickly. We wrote it off as bad timing.
