This hotel evokes the era of the early 1960s, when Japan was just coming into its own and preparing for the 1964 Olympics. A shame that the main building will soon be torn down, but I'm hoping the replacement will preserve the Okura's excellent service tradition --and the great breakfast at The Terrace (the best breakfast buffet in Tokyo)!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good hotel clean and authentic. To use the small gym everyday costs ~30 a day. If you join there rewards group you could wave the cost but they won't let you join if you use anything but their website to book hotel. The rooms are clean, beds are hard.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay at Okura Tokyo was truly wonderful. The staff were so helpful, the room was very spacious and comfortable, the restaurants are excellent. Will definitely stay there again! The neighborhood is quiet, however it's an easy subway to get anywhere you need in Tokyo.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outstanding service, great rooms"
This is a five-star business hotel in the government district of Tokyo. It has all the amenities you expect from such a hotel category. Service is excellent and the rooms are a very good-size. I was completely satisfied with my stay. I do have two points to advise others: 1.) The hotel is close to the Tokyo underground system but be aware it is up a […] fairly steep hill and not amenable if you are carrying your own suitcases. I would recommend taking a taxi to the hotel when you're checking in. 2.) The hotel restaurants are very pricey (at least $45 per person for dinner in the hotel coffee shop for a very basic meal to over $100 per person for dinner in the other restaurants). I absolutely love this hotel. A glamorous time capsule--they don't make them like this anymore.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historical property, but some parts feel "old""
Very retro and traditional old school hotel - feels like you stepped back into the 1970's - carpets seem to need replacing, but on the positive you are likely to run into women wearing kimono for events and such which is cool...we stayed on the Comfort Floor to avoid smoke smells...used the spa which was nice - great service esp if you need to get over […] jet lag Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient clean hotel"
Liked staying here very much Convenient location Near subway Large hotel but service goodGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not worth the price"
The location is excellent, it's clean, safe, and the hotel staff polite. However, it is not worth the premium price this hotel demands. Although authentically 'retro' from 1964, the decor hasn't been updated since. They allow smoking in the hotel rooms and even though I was on a 'non-smoking' floor, when I exited the elevators, the hallway smelled. […] Also, the smoke got into my room via the air vents. Unacceptable. The hotel fitness center tried to charge me more than fifty US dollars to work out one day in the gym. No thank you. For the price I was paying, I was floored how unimpressive my stay was. I'm pretty sure my TV had only 5 channels, none of them Japanese or world news channels. Beds and bath are nice, clean. But for my worldly travels, this is no where near a 5-star hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, great staff"
Well worth the cost.. Older exterior with remodeled rooms, but the service was spectacular.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was upgraded so was nice. Hotel needs a facelift. Food in the restaurant was too expensive so ate elsewhere. Service staff was very helpfulGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clear and friendly. Good location."
Staff are friendly and helpful. Room is clean and in good condition. Location is very nice, metro station is in walking distance. Restaurants are great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hot"
Hotel lobby and hallways look dated but the rooms are good size and the bathroom was amazing. Service is top notch, I mean there's a woman in a kimono and her sole job is to push the elevator button. I stayed in a floor that the price was higher and you got completmary accesses to the spa, but since I was there to see friends and was out all day that […] went to waste. "Nicely Appointed Older Property"
The hotel is definitely an older property in need of a "face lift"! I upgraded to a junior suite from a standard room with a parking lot view. Though the view from the "suite" (actually one large divided room), the view was only marginally better. The suite was nicely appointed, but there was no cabinet for clothing storage, only a closet with one shelf! […] Strange. Also, this so-called upgrade was very expensive. Though convenient to the US Embassy, this property is a good distance form the JR rail and subway lines, which is a big negative when traveling around Tokyo. The staff service was stellar...hearkening back to old days of ornately uniformed bellmen (and bell women) . In sum, nice old hotel, inconvenient to public transit, great staff service and hospitality, more expensive than necessary. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Once we were assigned a room, our overall experience was excellent. But it took awhile upon check-in to get a room on a non-smoking floor which was what we had requested upon making a reservation (and also we called the hotel directly in advance to confirm this request).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel but far from mass transit"
The hotel service was excellent. Period. The hotel itself is a little old and it is starting to show, but very clean. Very comfortable bed. Good bathroom. The size of the room is HUGE compared to other Japanese hotels. The only bad point about the hotel was its location. It is about a 10min walk to the nearest subway station. This is an elegant Classic Japanese Modern Designed Hotel built in the 1960's, and it has been perfectly maintained and updated with more modern conveniences. If you want quiet ambiance with perfect service, this quiet and reserved oasis is the place for you. It is where the action is not. I don't think there is a request that the excellent service […] staff can't fullfill and many times it is done within minutes of your request. Across from the American Embassy, it is a 5min to 10 min walk to the nearest subway stations. This is where the President chooses to stay when he visits Tokyo. He usually takes the entire South Wing of the Hotel. It is not inexpensive, but you are paying for quality which this has in spades. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good 5 star hotel for business travellers"
First time using expedia. No problems with booking at all. My room was in the main building. More modern and updated than the traditional lobby. Enough lights in the room to be brightly lit if desired, very modern and comfortable. Easy and good internet access. Good TV channel selection, including financial news. Exceptionally clean, no stains anywhere, […] and the hard to clean places were also clean (ie. shower corners, hair dryer cable, refridgerator, etc). Nice bathroom amenities. Comfortable bed for westerners (not rock hard like in many Japanese hotels), felt new (NO sag from too much use). Very professional staff. Fast and good room service. Excellent concierge support. Will definitely recommend this hotel to other people, particularly business travellers, and will stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great hotel. It combines excellent service with large rooms and very convenient dining options. Also, for planning day trips, the concierge was extremely helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Grande Dame of Akasaka"
Okura's mid-century modern look is now mode again. The minimalist, sunken lobby area that resembles a rock garden, with low lying tables & semi-tulip like chairs strike you with it's high ceiling & golden hued walls accented by black marble wall sections. The rooms and pool area are a wee bit tired looking, but otherwise is a lovely hotel just 5 to […] 10 min. cab ride to Roppongi Hills shopping mecca. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Located in the most upscale neighborhood in Tokyo. It's a classic with Charisma and charm. You expect to run into Don Draper any minute. As a bonus they've added an outdoor pool.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A Midcentury Modern Classic"
Old world elegance with the modern amenities you expect. This was a great introduction to Japan for us. The staff was very polite, yet very friendly. We had a great time interacting with our chef at the tempura restaurant. We love all the little touches, from the women in kimonos greeting you at the elevators to the origami crane and turtle on our pillows. The […] restaurants are very expensive, dinner was well worth it, the breakfast only because of the garden tucked in the middle of the city. The location is in a district with embassies and government with a 5 -10 minute walk to the subway or a 10 minute cab to Tokyo station. We only stayed for two nights and were touring in other areas, so I don't have much of a feel for the rest of the neighborhood. This is where Ian Fleming had Bond staying in the book of You Only Live Twice. It was built in advance of the 1964 Olympics, so it has a real Mad Men goes to Japan vibe. "Comfortable and Clean"
Hallways smelled a little stale/smokey -- but other than that, very clean and comfortable hotel. Pretty close to subways/train stops. Very quiet area. Just a short walk (10 min) to the heart of Roppongi.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was great room. very comfortable . Best of all great price . I will go back there .Genuine Expedia guest review
Incredible service, close to 3 different subway lines and great restaurants (Kyubei and Sazanka).... can't ask for more at this price level. Definitely added to my list of go-to hotels in Tokyo.Genuine Expedia guest review
Though the hotel is older, it still leans toward traditional Japanese 5 Star Hotel Service. It has some of the best restaurants in the Country with a few michelin starred, too. It is usually a quieter and more reverant facility than its counterparts, a favorite aspect of mine.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A Tokyo mid-20th century classic"
A Tokyo classic since the mid-60's and looks quite frozen in time. This is arguably one of the top three famous hotels in the Japanese capital. Very convenient location to the political and financial districts. It's much more geared towards business people than the casual tourist. The rooms are a decent size, the internet is free (both LAN and wi-fi) […] and the TV has many international channels. The lobby restaurant serves one of the few real Western breakfasts in Tokyo. "Great hotel in a quiet location."
I stayed at Hotel Okura, Tokyo, for five days including the New Year's day. This is a superb hotel with all the luxury one may need. The service was fantastic: courteous, always available, however never imposing. What I liked most was the quiet hotel location, far from traffic yet close to Tokyo metro. "Like stepping into an episode of Mad Men"
Love the mid-century modern decor!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
With one excpetion, albeit one very large exception, this was a decent enough hotel. It's a little older and in some places it very much shows it's age but does retain some of it's 50's charm. The staff, like every hotel in Japan I've been to, was very nice and accomidating. The hotel was clean as well. The location is right by the US embassy, which […] is to say, it's not really close to many restaurants, bars, etc... Heading over to the Roppongi crossing area is a pretty good hike. The biggest problem with the hotel is that they do not guarantee your room choice. Your request for 2 beds, for example, is just that, merely a request. Even though you may pay in advance, there's no guarantee that they'll have the room that you booked. Of course, had I known this in advance, I would never have booked this hotel. If you are particular about sleeping arrangements, I would consider another hotel Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"One of the great hotels in the world."
The Okura in Tokyo is one of the great hotels, maybe my favorite hotel anywhere. The staff is wonderful, the lobby is one of the most gorgeous rooms in Japan, or anywhere, all the public areas are lovely and immaculate, and the restaurants are fabulous. My only complaint is that the hotel charges guests outrageous amounts to use the gym and the pool. […] I paid $27 to have a swim, which is unconscionable in a major hotel. Finally the Okura has free wi-fi in the rooms, which they didn't before, but charging for the use of the gym and pool is wrong, and they should move past this. If you stay in a deluxe-enough room they waive the charge, but that just creates second-class guests, and that's wrong. But that's my only complaint. This is a great hotel, and I look forward to my next stay. I also look forward to the end of this ridiculous policy of charging to use the hotel facilities. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
