This small enclave by the river was developed into Dublin’s Cultural Quarter in the 1980s, and soon became the city’s nightlife centre. Temple Bar is still devoted to eating, drinking, entertainment, and shopping. By day, it’s an arty alternative hangout; by night, groups of partying tourists make it a rowdier haunt. Near the famous Ha’penny Bridge, Merchants’ Arch retains some of the area’s atmosphere from a century or so ago.

The staff in the Clarence could not be more helpful and the service was excellent. The hotel decor is simple and could do with a few touch ups in places. Our room was spacious and the bed very confortable. However, our roon was on the temple bar side of the hotel and had old fashioned single glazed windows. As a result we got very little sleep from the noise outside which continued until 6am. So if you want to sleep either take some ear plugs or insist on a room racing the river. It dampened what could have been a great experience.

The Clarence is my favorite hotel in Dublin, and it's not just because it is part owned by Bono and The Edge of U2. The staff is amazing, I can't say enough about how welcoming and helpful they are. Jacob the night concierge is truly a gem. The Octagon Bar is a perfect spot to spend an evening with friends. The cocktails are amazing and the bartenders are friendly and entertaining, even when they are incredibly busy. Try the award winning cocktails by Szabi If the hotel ever gets updated they need to put in Air Conditioning, plasma TV's, and free internet somewhere in the hotel. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was roomy with plenty of space for our stuff. I loved the bathrobes too. And yes I am a huge U2 fan!

Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 20, 2009
This is not a five star hotel. The location is excellent, since it is right in the Temple Bar area, but the rooms are barely three stars. They are really small, have no air conditioning and the fixtures are not even close to luxurious. The lobby is spartan and the carpets are so worn, you can see the white backing. When I complained at the front desk, they acknowledged that the property is three stars, but said that ''in terms of service they are four stars''. However, they are advertised in hotels.com as five stars and I booked expecting a five star.

Great hotel - convenient location and friendly staff - only downfall is the rear rooms back up to all the Temple Bar hotels - impossible to sleep on weekend nights - parties never stop - ask for a room at the front of the hotel

When we checked into the hotel were were originally given an extremely small room that had an issue with the air conditioning unit. Originally, the hotel's solution was to bring in a small fan and it took another request to change rooms. The hotel did accomodate our request and even upgraded the room for us! However, I think this hotel is a bit pricey for the overall ambiance and quality. It doesn't have the feel of a 5 start hotel. Earlier in our trip we had stayed in a 3 start hotel in Dublin which I would recommend before the Clarence for the price and quality.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Clarence for two days in November whilst on a business trip. I would definitely return here on future visits. The staff were polite, professional and very helpful. I had a slight medical problem and they got a doctor to my room within an hour. The hotel lobby is fairly basic and the rooms are uncluttered and clean. I thought that there was a shaker style to the decoration throughout which was really well done and worked for me! I was a big fan of the rooms which I found relaxing. There is something about the understated simplicity which I found de-stressing. Genuinely, my only gripe with the hotel was the charge for broadband which was 25euros per day. Given that wifi is free in MacDonalds this feels quite similar to theft. It seems outrageous that hotels should still be playing this game in 2008. Everyone knows there's a 12,000% markup so all it does is irritate customers (particularly this one). Don't use the internet in your room and enjoy your stay in a great hotel.

The service and location were fantastic. And the room was very nice, but the carpet and some of the furniture was worn. There was a large industrial fan outside my window which was very load. The food was expensive which was to be expected but also not all of it was that good. Had a perfectly acceptable stay, but had really expected to be wowed by this hotel.

Wonderful location. Terrific staff-extremely helpful. Front esk/consierge called for sold out theatre tickets four times to try and get us last minute tickets that may have become avaialble. Stayed in the 2 bedroom suite. Living room furniture was quite unattractive. Shower curtain in bath was so close to me-they need to get the curving shower rods to keep the shower curtain off the guest while showering in the narrow tub. Overall a terrific experience.

I stayed two nights in The Clarence over my 50th birthday. The hotel is small and chic. The style is quite understated. Perhaps too understated for some. The staff in the hotel were overwhelmingly helpful and friendly. Our room was small and had a very limited view but was very tastefully decorated. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a hotel. The only downside was I left behind a personal item in the hotel room. The Clarence sent the item on to my home but decided to debit my credit card for postage.

Mycket trevligt hotell mitt i temple bar området.
