We loved the Waikoloa Marriott and will definitely be back. This location has the best weather on the island if you like sunny days at the beach. All of the staff (with the exception of Tracey at the front desk) are extremely friendly and helpful. They truly make your stay a wonderful experience. "3 hr wait for check in"
Check in was at 3 PM. We sat in the lobby until 6:30 when they finally gave us a different room. The rooms are also extremely small for the price. A big disappointment.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Aloha and thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Please accept our apologies for the challenges you encountered at check-in. It’s hard to tell from your comments what the exact problem might have been. We do take all feedback seriously and thank you for your review.
Splendidly amazing a taste of paradise loved it. Perfect haven. A must stay if you must have a lovely time. Breakfast Buffet was lovely.Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed here for a week. I'm so glad we chose this hotel. The pool was great, the hotel grounds really made you feel relaxed, the beach was great. This is about 40 minutes from kailua kona town, but the drive is beautiful. There's outdoor shopping place across the street. I would definitely go back to this hotel. The Big island has a lot to offer, […] relaxing but at the same time, not boring. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great resort, can't wait to go back!"
We went here on our honeymoon and it was a great experience. From the moment we walked in the staff was helpful and friendly, and really made our stay that much better. Our bartender at the restaurant bar remembered us after the first night, and always took care of us the rest of trip. Although the resort is fairly large, we never felt cramped or crowded. […] Our pool view room was even better than advertised, with a generous view of the bay and ocean from our balcony. If you are looking for either a romantic getaway or a family vacation, this fits both. With two pools and the beach only feet away there is plenty of space to enjoy the Hawaiian weather! The hotel was in a great location, the beach was amazing and the pool areas were beautiful. It was within walking distance to shopping and other restaurants. The staff was friendly, welcoming, helpful and very accommodating with our needs. Everything was great: the drinks, the food, and the rooms were exactly what you expect of the Marriott Hotels, […] clean, comfortable and had everything you need. I had concerns about being close to the pool, but there was no problems with the noise levels, even with the pool being open 24hrs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice resort"

"Private beach access"
My family and I enjoyed our stay. On our beach, they had a ocean sport special on a few days in the week where we paid $30 for unlimited ocean sport rentals. It was awesome and a great and affordable deal- snorkeling, kayaking, hydrobiking, paddle boarding, and a 30 min glass bottom boat ride. Probably the highlight of the trip! We only had a rental […] car for our last day. Many of the activities were overly priced and there were mixed responses from the concierge. One said the activities we wanted to do didn't offer transportation and another man on our last day who was somewhat rude told us it's too late to even schedule anything and that transportation was offered. This man at the valet, Sean, was actually the most helpful worker we encountered at our stay. He pinpointed all the spots, including where to eat, for our one day of roadtripping through HI. Overall very beautiful place and the best breakfast buffet! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel for family with kids"
This is my third stay at this hotel. What my family and I love the most is the swimming pool area, the proximity to the beach, and the nice patio overlooking the pool and the beach in the distance. The beach is part of the A-bay, usually safe for young and non experienced swimmers. Ocean Sports rentals are available. Also, the hotel is walking distance […] to the King's and Queen's marketplaces, with a choice of shops and restaurants. The rooms are big enough for a family of 4, clean, and well maintained in general. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel but in slight decline"
Was here 9 years ago (2005) for honeymoon and loved it and came back this year (2014) for family vacation. Hotel is still in a great spot but in decline. They used to have fish ponds by dining area but took them out. Also no more easy snorkeling in this area. All gone. Carpets are all beat up and dirty. Serivce is ok and they have a few problem people […] now whereas they had none before. There are a lot of pluses in this place that i still like. Grounds and beach are great and the place is very compact, private and a walk away from the lava lava club which is classic. Overall i am dissappointed the same level of excellence they had 9 years ago was not maintained. If you get a good room price say 240/night this is probably a good deal. If you want true luxed out kona time then go to 4 seasons or hilton and spend just a little more. This review is based on luxury comparisons locally only. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Aloha and thank you for taking the time share your experience. Your comments regarding the carpets have been noted and we agree that they are in need of replacing. The good news is that our owners recently gave us the approval and this project will be taking place this year. Thank you for the nice comments about our location and we hope to welcome you back again in the future.
"Great Hotel Close to the Beach & Private"
Hotel staff was courteous and very helpful. When we arrived, we were provided with an ocean view room but did not care for the side of the hotel we were placed. We contacted the front desk and they apologized and indicated they would try to relocate us to a different room. Later that evening, we received a call regarding another room, which we were […] allowed to view before confirming the change. We were pleased with the new room, especially with the location (ocean view with view over the pool area/grounds, which gave us a better feel of being in paradise. Great place to stay with kids as the pool had a slide. The pool is open 24 hours, which allowed us to get some pool time during evening/ night hours. Many other hotels close pool access after a certain hour in the evening and re-open in the morning. Beach area was nice but take water shoes as you will start stepping on rocks about 20-25 off shore. Self parking is available with the resort fee, which also includes wi-fi access and local/mainland calls. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel for our honeymoon"
The hotel was great, when we arrived the check in process was fast and we were directed quickly to our garden view room, the view was excellent and we even had a partial ocean view coming out to the balcony. The room was clean, good size, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel has many pools that you can enjoy, and access to the beach if you prefer, […] shade is better at the pools but is hard to get in a day when the hotel is full, the bar and restaurant are ok and offer many specials during the week, including aloha hour every day. The staff was very welcoming every time, and they always answered our questions with no delay. One great point of this hotel is that they have an Expedia Local Expert counter in site, where you can make reservations for many of the big island activities. The hotel have a local shop (gifts and sundry) where you can grab any last minute items, snaks, and souvenirs and is very convenient. Also right in front of the hotel in the beach is the Ocean Sports cabin, and they offer many water sports activites, and also have special days where you can have an all activites pass for a special price, and it is great! We also recommend the luau and the snorkeling trips. Also convenient is that they have two smal shopping malls, the Kings Shops, and the Queens Market, is not for doing your normal kind of shopping, but if you are looking for beach fashion you will be pleased. Overall it was a great experience for us! and we hope we can be back soon! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel offers little workshops on lei making or basket weaving or hula dancing etc. which were really fun. I also enjoyed the island introduction the first morning I was there. It gave a lot of things to do on the island.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Elegant and Friendly"
This hotel offered the elegance and beauty adults want in a Hawaii hotel while still a friendly place for children to play and splash. The access to the beach is amazing and the pools are wonderful. The hotel coffee shop has yummy breads, drinks and muffins. The hotel store has cute gifts and great snacks. Both for good prices especially based on the […] cost of everything on The Big Island. Love that this hotel is close to restaurants and other shops. Rooms are spacious and comfy. The front desk was super nice and accommodating. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This was my 2nd stay at Waikoloa Marriott, and I will most likely stay there again when visiting family who live north of Kona. The rooms are comfortable, with price options dependent upon the view, e.g., pool, ocean, mountain/garden, and size. This gives guests flexibility to decide how much to spend and what other things they want to spend their money […] on. The resort actually has 3 separate pools, clustered together, so there is always plenty of room for water play; one is very shallow with a sand bottom, intended for very young children. The restaurant is just a few steps up from the infinity pool, with an outdoor terrace available. In addition, drinks and food can be ordered and delivered at poolside as well. The ocean, and activity amenities are a short, flat walk from the pool area. Wonderful sea turtles sometimes sunbathe on the sand in the less busy area of the beach. My only complaint is that the menu choices are somewhat limited. I have family who live in the area, and being able to stay close by, but having the opportunity for some privacy for all of us, makes a vacation perfect. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Response by Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. All feedback is an important element of our business and we value your comments. "Koi Pond and Towels at Beach Gone"
Although our stay was great, there were recent changes ti the hitel that were disappointing. The koi pond and the towel service at the beach were gone. Also, we have stayed at this hotel five times but they do not seem to know this when we check in each time. And although our stay was great, they have cheap looking plastic lighting fixtures in the entry […] way that look like they were bought at Kmart. They used to have beautiful carpet entry with amtique canoes and authentic Hawaiian music in entry way. The fire pits on balcony and nuce sitting area are a plus. "Good location with great beach access"
We are Silver Elite members and hold a Marriott Visa. Upon check in we were told that we are slated for a ground floor pool view room but she could give us a higher floor. She put us on the top floor and we had a beautiful pool and ocean view. The rooms are small but comfortable. I had come from a week at the Fairmont Orchid and the little details were […] missing - no make up mirror, no turn down service, no shower cap, q-tips or cotton balls, but the bed was comfortable and clean. I was disappointed that there were only 7-9 umbrellas at the pool. There were several cabanas but they were $50 a day rental and really the only good option for shade at the pool. Tradewinds were up and the pool attendants lowered the umbrellas most days we were there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Congratulations on participating in the Ironman “Honu” Half Marathon. We apologize that our resort was not convenient to the race. This particular race has been hosted at a neighbor resort since its inception in 2004 and is within a couple miles of us. Many of our hosts work as volunteers for these races and we have maintained an aid station for the Ironman World Championship Triathlon since it came to the Big Island over 20 years ago. Again, congratulations and maybe we will get the chance to welcome you back for Ironman in October.
"Nice hotel with a great beach."
The big island is really easy to get around by car. If you plan on staying on only the big island, you might want to stay a couple of days on the Hilo side and a couple of days on the kona side. Check before you rent a helicopter that there is actual lava flow. We spent the bucks and there was no lava flow :((.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was a fun place to stay with lots available to do. The concierge, Amanda, was excellent. She gave us a very informative presentation and helped us book some excellent excursions. The hotel staff were all very friendly. We had an ocean front with an excellent view and were glad we had gone the extra dollar for that. The grounds were well maintained. […] Self parking was close by and included. There was excellent shopping (King and Queens Shops) within a few minutes walking distance. There were plenty of chairs around the beach and the pool. It was a good central location for planning outings to other parts of the island. It was much less crowed and more pleasant than staying in "downtown" Kona. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good for Solo Travelers"
This was my first vacation where I traveled alone. I am a single female and felt very safe here. I saw security walking around the grounds and staff seemed to check in and watch out for me, knowing I was alone. The hotel was close to shopping and restaurants, within walking distance. There were always open chairs by the beach and the sports rental staff […] was very helpful. There were also lots of open chairs by the pool, never had a problem getting a chair or towel. The bar staff was awesome and the restaurant was good. This was exactly the type of vacation I wanted.... relaxing and lazy! "Hotel is ok..."
Long wait at the check in desk and the staff is rude. I had a gift card that I was supposed to pick up for the Spa when I checked in and the front desk acted totally put out that they had to call the Spa and find out where it was. I left my coach watch in the hotel after checking out and I have called the hotel 3 times since and each time I am passed […] off to security with a promise of a return call and no one calls back. We had a garden view room on the second floor. The view was pretty, in fact we could actually see the ocean in the distance. The bed was very comfortable, shower was really nice too. Rooms were pretty sound proof, could not hear anyone in the hallway which was nice. The only negative thing about the room was the A/C. It only went down to 65 degrees. Extremely impressed with everything (except food prices at the hotel). There are cheaper options, but it takes some time to figure out where/what they are. Would recommend The Harbor House, Café Pesto, Lava Java. The Queen's Marketplace serves meals in their deli and the portions are huge. My husband and I could have easily split them. Great location with beautifully landscapes grounds that are historically preserved. Would recommend water shoes since water is somewhat rocky but have to expect that on a volcanic island. Excellent Monday half-price, dinner special that was very well prepared with generous portions. Staff was friendly and helpful. Infinity pool was wonderful.
