The hotel is nice and it has a great history being one of the oldest hotels. Also, the 4th for of the hotel is supposedly haunted. The beds are very small and the showers are bath tubs like from every haunted movie you've ever seen. The rooms are a good size though. Also, there is an extra $28 fee for valet parking.

The reviews I read prior to our stay at the Majestic were very accurate. We selected the suite. Very nice size bedroom with a more than nice size sitting room. One must understand their is no heating or air conditioning. When it got cold, we closed the windows and the room was very comfortable. When it got hot opening the windows made the room very […] comfortable. There is a sofabed in the sitting room. that was very uncomfortable, so I'm told since I didn't have to sleep on it. The sitting room is twice the size of the bed room. The bathroom is very nice and large enough for two people at once. Traffic noise was not an issue. And our stay was midweek. So the going to work traffic noise was very minimal. When one is staying the big city you would expect some traffic noise. The walls are thin and so are the ceiling. Over all, if you want to experience turn of the century San Fransisco, the Majestic would make a very good choice. Read more

All of the staff were courteous and helpful. The rooms are small, my bed was simply not that comfortable, but the decor gives the place personality. It's definitely a more interesting place than the usual generic hotels of a similar price range.

Everyone was very professional and nice. Great little bar with good prices. I ordered an omelette and it was prepared exactly the way I requested. A+... Also, they will upgrade you if they have space for a reasonable rate. The rooms are small, but clean. I used a end table for a desk, but it worked out great. I'm going back.

Very old hotel. Toilet clogged twice and when I told the front desk they did not apologize just told me that I didn't hold the lever down long enough. This happened twice and I had to check out early because I was so frustrated. Stay here at your own risk.

Loved the restaurant. Loved the service. My mother-in-law was very impressed with her room to accommodate her walker and her shower restrictions. Very large...and a fireplace!! Our room was a bit small, but fine for us and we loved the authenic old touches (claw foot tub, armoire closet). Lots of windows.

This hotel is not for the modern tourist who enjoys the chain hotels. This hotel is an antique hotel built back in 1902. With canopy beds and claw-footed tubs, this is the type of hotel you would wanna stay in if you like to go off the beatne path. its in a quieter part of town which me and my boyfriend enjoyed. My girlfriend and I needed a place to stay in for our getaway to the city; and I think that this place is a hidden gem. After reading the reviews and seeing the price that came with them I figured why not? Yes, the beds are high, but very comfortable and even added to the overall characteristic of the room itself. If you choose to stay here, be ready to relax and not worry about reality because their checkout is at noon which is plenty of time to sleep in and not worry about being chased out of your room by room cleaning. I guess for some old is charming but for me the Majestic was old and dusty and anything but charming. The restaraunt was not open in the mornings so I had to walk 3 blocks to the nearest Starbucks and then climb some major hills to get back. Though the vintage decor was a nice theme, the furniture shouldnt of been so run down looking, fireplace should have been operable, water pressure was extremely low and room was very small to be listed as a "Jr. Suite" But what was extremely unacceptable was the used razor and toiletries left in the shower from previous guests.

We rented the hotel for my mother on her birthday. She loved it. She loved the restaraunt. The bar was also great, great drinks. There was no where to park near the hotel and the parking was full when they arrived. My father has a disability and can not walk. One of the workers made room in valet parking for them. Overall great!

This is a wonderful old world hotel. Be sure and get a Master King Suite, if you do then you will have a very nice living room with fire place and windows that open and a nice bedroom with giant tall four poster bed. The hotel is one of those old buildings that used to be grand and now is aging gracefully. Beautiful leaded glass, marble, dark wood. The elevator was seriously old and creaky and after one trip we elected to take the stairs. The staircase was fully integrated into the building, more like a house staircase instead of a dingy stairwell through fire doors, […] and I enjoyed having the stair option not feel like an afterthought (like most new construction, where its almost impossible to even find the stairs). Our room was much nicer than I was expecting. We had a high four-poster bed with attractive dimmer lighting that shined through the canopy. The room was small, but fit everything without feeling crowded. The bathroom was small and charming, slightly dilapidated - for example, there was some gouges in the embossed wallpaper and the heavy wooden door creaked. I didn't use the flatscreen TV but it looked nice. There were blackout shades on the big bay window that kept the streetlights out, and the street noise was pretty minimal. We were able to check in and park our car 2 hours before official check-in time. In a city with serious parking issues, this was greatly appreciated. Parking was valet-only, $25 before the city parking tax, $28 after. The neighborhood felt safe, and it was an easy walk to a bunch of restaurants and shops. Read more

If your looking for a new fangled hotel with all brand new facilities, this is not for you. If your looking for charm and enjoy historic type hotels...this is for you. Built in 1903. Staff is helpful and extremely friendly. Resturant and Bar are quaint. The butterfly collection in the bar was beautiful. Enjoy your stay I did!

The hotel is walking distance to several restaurants and we enjoyed the walk. Our room was nice and clean but very small. The bed was comfortable but really high which made watching tv difficult because the tv was set low. Overall it was a decent room for a one night stay.

The location is excellent: we walked to Union Square, toured the area around the hotel which includes a splendid display of magnificent SF architecture, and the uniquely gorgeous St. Mary's Cathedral. While the breakfasts are all right, if a bit on the expensive side, the one dinner we had there was dreadful, and expensive. I would avoid it. The hotel was acceptable for the price. Main objections were that the bed was waist high (no steps or stepstool available), and that the lighting was very dim overall. Luckily I brought a mirror so that I could sit under a lamp to do my make-up. And I was just barely able to climb up into bed. Someone younger and more agile would have been fine with […] that. The hotel is old, but attractive in a quaint sort of way. It survived the 1906 earthquake. The room was very small--not very many places to put things, however, it was attractive and clean. There is no air conditioning, and no screens on windows, and in early Feb it was hot. They did offer a fan.

This hotel is very deceiving from the outside. Once you step through the beveled glass doors, though, you are surrounded with old San Francisco charm and beauty. Each room has different wallpaper, carpets, claw foot tubs, and comfortable canopy beds. Generally clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Bathrooms are pretty dated, however. Be warned, the staff is generally inattentive and there is no vending available and, more importantly, COFFEE to be found in the morning! If you want a soda, the closest store is 2 blocks away, likewise with the SBUX or Peets in the AM.

Stayed 2 nights, december 22nd and 23rd 2012. Rooms were reasonably priced comparatively. Hotel is old school style, which was a nice change from stuffy standard nice hotel rooms. Room we had was super small, like wow...it's small. But it was clean, and had style. It was like staying at Grandmas house back east, lots of creeks and groans from the place. […] Overall I really liked it, very historical. I am not sure if all the rooms were as small as mine, I peeked into a different one and it seemed bigger. Bed was comfortable, bathroom clean, old style tub with pipes was clean as could be. Walls nicely finished, roof etc. TV was too low on table to watch from the bed, but it didn't matter. Guys at front desk were really nice and helpful. Had fast wifi. It's close enough to walk to union square, just wear walking shoes. Factor in the 25 plus 3$ per night parking though, that's a rip IMO. Read more
