Me and my daughter wanted a beach vacation in San Diego!!! I went to Expedia and did a lot of research. The la jolla shores hotel,kept coming up. Wonderful location right on the beach, excellent service, nice rooms except they need better air conditioning. A small window air conditioner placed in the corner by the beds near the floor does not circulate the air. Also there was no cross ventilation unless one opened the entry door to the room. Loved the location. The beach was gorgeous. The resturant food was very good and service excellent. Our room did not have a view or the ocean but was fine. I liked the balcony settings for each room which provided a nice place to relax. The Pool and Hot tub was an excellent site for having fun with the wedding party and guests the day after the wedding. Thank goodness for the balcony and tables there which provided both a view of the sunset and relief from the heat. Archaic cable television in the Hotel. Gotta have a sports package if its football season. Many of the rooms needed maintenance on the sliding doors and screen doors. I went to the la La Jolla Shores to celebrate my birthday. Although, I live in Carlsbad and have lived in San Diego County all my life, I had never been there before. Our family (9) liked this hotel. It has a great Cali layout and design of an older hotel. This is a well kept building. Convenience to the beach is unsurpassed. Staff was very friendly and helpful. A bigger menu of simple foods, kids cafe food or a vegan menu would round this place out. Parking is pricy.

My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon where we stayed at the La Jolla Shores Hotel. Upon arrival, we were informed that bed size was based on a "first come, first serve" basis. So even though I booked a king size bed through Expedia, my husband and I were told that there were no king beds available & we were put in a terrible room with two […] FULL size beds (we were told they were queen size beds- they were not). After checking our reservation through Expedia & the hotel's website, my husband and I found that NOWHERE did it say that bed size was first come first serve. My husband called Expedia, who then called the hotel. Expedia called us back and told us that we could possibly switch to another hotel or stay in the room we were in and the hotel promised us complimentary amenities. My husband went out to talk to the guy at the front desk who told my husband that the free amenity that was discussed was a free bottle of champagne- THAT'S IT. Mind you, the entire time leading up to this honeymoon I was told by friends and family that we would probably be upgraded and given loads of free stuff simply because we were on our honeymoon. Instead, we were DOWNGRADED. Finally, the guy at the front desk moved us to a room with a king size bed (that he did not mention previously). The room was better than the original but still not great. We did stay because the hotel was in a nice area. However, clearly the hotel catered to families and could care less about us honeymooners. We just returned from our almost week-long stay at the La Jolla Shores Hotel. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the hotel and would definitely recommend it to families (5 year old and 7 month old) looking for a nice hotel RIGHT on the beach and close to all the attractions. My only major gripe with the trip was the check-in time. We arrived […] from a long flight a little after 1pm and were forced to sit around waiting for a room to be cleaned. I do realize that the check-in time is 4pm and we did get our room about 3pm so it's not their fault, just wanted to point it out. This hotel is not super fancy. The rooms could use a bit of updating but the view from the coastal view room was awesome. The rooms were very clean and the maid service was fantastic, except a little stingy with the soap. The pool was also awesome. It was heated and a nice break from the cooler ocean. Oh, did I mention that this hotel is right on the beach? Literally twenty feet from the beach. Fantastic area! There is a village within walking distance with surf shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant is very nice . It is a bit on the expensive side but you get to dine right on the beach so it is worth it. The hotel itself is very nice. Stayed 5 nights with my wife and two sons, who are both under 3 years old. This hotel is very kid friendly, with a kids pool, as well as a kids playground right next to the hotel on the beach. The staff was very accommodating and you cannot beat the location, waking up with a view of the ocean every morning. It's about 30 minutes south of Legoland,15 […] minutes north of the zoo, and 10 minutes north of Seaworld, so it was the perfect location for all of the activities that we planned for the week. There are likely other hotels in La Jolla that are nicer, especially for couples looking for romance and style, but this hotel is perfect for families with young kids. A bit of room ware. Parking for $16/night was a surprise as I thought I had read it was included in the room fee. Elevator wasn't working well, and we actually ended up stuck in it! Staff was very gracious. There are more affordable family resteraunts nearby than the expensive hotel dining room.

If you're used to staying at a Westin, this hotel is not for you. The place is old and the amenities are lacking. Although if you're looking for a beachfront hotel, your options are limited. Simply put, this hotel offers Holiday Inn EXPRESS quality for Westin price.

I stayed there with my two teenage sons and we were very comfortable. The hotel really is right on the beach so a alot of sand got tracked in to the room and was vacuumed up every day. They are very accomodating and provided a rollaway bed with 10 minutes notice without any extra charge. The walls are pretty thin and it seemed lots of folks were regularly dropping big, heavy things starting about 6a.m. (Probably scuba divers now that I think about it...) Awesome location on the beach within walking distance of many local eateries as well as the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. The Shores restaurant is a bit too pricey for the quality of food provided. We highly suggest eating at Pappalulus a couple of blocks away. Huge portions, great food at reasonable prices!

Overall the hotel was great. However it sure could use some TLC. A couple things that drove us nuts was how the toilet paper holder and the screen door to the balcony keep falling off everytime you touched them. One more negative note is that the hotel charges you $16 a day to park in the parking garage which is also open to the public.

The standard room in this hotel does NOT sleep 6! We purchased this room on Expedia as a room for 6. It does NOT have a fold out couch and only 1 cot will be allowed due to fire code. It was a long drawn out process but it finally got fixed. After this first issue we had a great time. The hotel staff was mostly good, friendly, and helpful. We had 2 […] rooms both street side. The one in the front of the hotel was quieter than the one on the side street next to the hotel (beach access). This room was very noisy late at night and again early morning, sounded like the big dumpster access was right there for the hotel restaurant, and trash trucks. The rooms are a little outdated, but very clean. Nice big refrigerator easily fit a lot of snacks. Nice balconies overlooking the ping pong tables. Great beach access, walk right out and onto the beach! Towels, chairs, umbrellas available free of charge. Nice warm pool/hot tub. Hot tub was small, but the kiddie pool was nice. Plenty of street parking. We were there a week and never struggled to find parking in the evenings when we returned after our outings. Easy drive to Sea World, the Zoo, and many beaches. Read more

Spent 6 nights here with my husband and two 5 year olds. Even though we had a "garden room", we had a nice balcony with a view of the ocean and park. The room was really spacious and convenient to a few shops/restaurants in La Jolla and there was a nice size fridge in the room so we could stock up on a few groceries. Easy access to all attractions. Seemed like the hot tub needed to be cleaned a bit more, but the kids really had a great time in the pool #and hot tub to quickly warm up#. Pool had gradual steps into a 3.5 ft pool out to a 8.5 ft pool, so lots of families having fun with kids of all ages. There was a small wading pool for toddlers. Our room was clean...had to request soap/shampoo/cond even when we were out and they forgot soap, so I dug some up in my luggage and they didn't really wipe down the tub each day, so I did that myself before the kids' baths....but not a big deal as the rest of the room was great. Cons: -Parking under the hotel was very convenient however I think one parking spot should be included in the price of the room. -No complementary breakfast or coffee in the mornings. Not expecting a free breakfast buffet, but a cup of coffee and some fruit would be nice. They did have a coffee pot in the room, but it seemed like a waste to make a pot when I only drink one cup in the morning. -Beach was not as clean as I had expected. I didn't encounter much trash, but there was an abundance of seaweed. In front of the tennis club just to the south of La Jolla Shores Hotel, the sand was raked and kept clean. Great experience. Family friendly. The 8 1/2' deep pool was a nice treat. Beach right outside the window. Will be back again. Be sure and check out the caves and harbor seals just off of Prospect St, my 6 and 8 year old boys enjoyed this area about as much as Seaworld and Legoland.
