Fresh gardenias are replaced in a water bowl each day, delivering natural aromatherapy to the rooms. Views of downtown San Francisco, Grace Cathedral and Huntington Park create an urban backdrop. Cable televisions, wireless Internet access and iPod docking stations are provided. Daily newspapers are complimentary.

Expert Tip. The Huntington Hotel's concierge won't shy away from a challenge. Go ahead, inquire about tickets to that sold-out event, or ask for help plotting the perfect picnic. The concierge staff prides itself on knowing no request too large or detail too small.

The price is worth it just for being able to use its pool, sundeck, workout and steam rooms. Plus, you are at one of the most convenient locations in downtown San Francisco. If you'd like to walk everywhere like us, bring a good pair of shoes because the hills are STEEP! Or you can get a cable car pass.

The Huntington Hotel was a wonderful place to stay in San Francisco. The location was perfect for walking to Chinatown, Union Square, North Beach, the Wharf and more. The room was very spacious (especially compared to two other hotels we have stayed at in this city) and came with a great view! The service was fanstastic and the ambiance was warm and classy, with live piano music in the hotel restaurant. Staying at the hotel comes with free access to the spa facilities, including infinity pool, sauna and steam room. A truly great find! We hope to return again one day.

Reviewed by Dwight M of Palo Alto on Oct 22, 2009

This is one of the finest hotels in which my wife and I have ever stayed. It's pure class. "Perfect" is the only word I can use to describe their service. Every time we called downstairs to request anything from extra hangers to meals was satisfied in about two minutes by a smiling staff member. The hotel sits atop Nob Hill, a beautiful part of town within walking distance from North Beach, Chinatown, the financial district, and Union Square. The Hotel's restaurant and bar, The Big 4, is excellent. And it's dark, ornate woodwork, bronze statues and paintings surround you in 1920's splendor. To give you an idea of the effort they make to see to your comfort, I'll just describe the amenities in the spa. There's a pool, a hot tub, chairs and chaise lounges, a fireplace, and an outdoor patio with a view of the city. There's a selection of teas you can prepare for yourself, and two pitchers of ice water, one with lemons in it and the other with strawberries. There's a phone from where you can order food or drink. After you swim or soak in the Jacuzzi you can wash off the chlorine in the shower room which is supplied with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, clean brushes, blow-driers, deodorant, hair gel, etc. My wife and I soaked in the hot tub every evening, took showers and returned to our room ready for bed. If you want quality it's pretty hard to beat the Huntington. And since it costs them a lot to maintain such a high standard, it costs you too. The budget-minded need not apply.

The only drawback is also one of the attractions of this hotel---it is on top of Nob Hill. Great Views=steep hills. If you walk to Union Square it is quite a workout to get back. But well worth it.

This was our first trip to San Francisco, and we had no idea where to stay. We looked at options in a variety of locations, and finally settled on Nob Hill. Once we settled on Nob Hill, we still needed to pick a hotel. Nob Hill was the perfect choice, and The Huntington was top notch. Having traveled extensively over the years, I can find fault with almost any property. Start-to-finish, The Huntington exceeded my expectations. Not a single thing that I can complain about! If you're staying on Nob Hill, you will definitely want to purchase a Muni pass which gives you full access to the cable cars. From our 12th floor room at The Huntington, the view was incredible. Ask for a north-facing room, and you can see all the way across the Bay.

Beautiful classic hotel with amazing views situated at the top of Nob Hill. The neighborhood is fairly quiet and residential, but the cable car stops right in front of the Huntington's front door and takes you past Chinatown and into the downtown area. We had one of their deluxe rooms and it was quite large with a sitting area, wet bar and comfortable king bed. The bathroom was a little small and only had a shower, but overall we were very happy with the room. All the staff we encountered were incredibly polite and helpful. All had great recommendations for things to see and do around town.

The Huntington is lovely. I was grateful for a room upgrade after complaining that the room I was initially given was nothing like the rooms featured in photos. In the end, I was in a nicely redecorated room overlooking the park. The spa is absolutely gorgeous and was complimentary for hotel guests. Location is terrific, the bellmen were delightful and helpful. The concierge (Cynthia) was the only downer. Both of my requests for suggestions for dining and shopping were curtly answered with dismissiveness, and a strong and clear indication that she had no more than a few seconds of her time at my disposal. She wasn't overly professional, as I heard her conversing across the lobby with staff about a third party, who she called some insulting name. In the end, I called over to the Fairmont (where I've stayed before) to ask the concierge there for a suggestion on a restaurant. However, overall, the place is nice with plenty of competent and friendly staff.

I could not have had a better stay; my huge room was luxurious and very clean. It had a large walk in cupboard with safe, a LOT of floor space and a King sized bed at least 6 feet wide. The bathroom was fabulous with a great high pressure shower, lots of towels and L'Occitane products. The other great thing about the hotel is that it has a Spa; hotel guests can use the lovely pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms for free – fabulous after a busy day. The hotel is lovely, the staff very friendly and helpful and the location is excellently placed on the cable car routes and close to the shopping in Union Square without being in the noisy centre. The only thing you should really know is that it is at the top of a steep hill, be prepared to take a taxi if this is an issue but as the hotel is so close to the main attractions it should never really cost more than $10 (max) including a tip. I would definitely choose to return to this hotel and recommend it to everyone; it was definitely the best hotel I stayed at during my trip to the US.

Large bathroom with double sinks and a separate toilet and bathroom. It was very clean, modern and tasteful. The hotel is in a great location, its quiet, and a nice walk down to Union Sq, and Chinatown and a tram ride to Fishermans Wharf. Service was great, the doorman was helpful on arrival. If you've been searching and searching for a hotel in San Francisco, stop and immediately book The Huntington. The Huntington has the style and charm of a boutique but also the full service and cleanliness of a grand old-style 5 star San Francisco hotel. The location (Nob Hill) is quiet and safe, and the California Street Car stops are right outside the front door. The staff from bell to concierge to front desk to chamber service is exceptional. An all around great hotel!

This is an Extraordinary Hotel. The location atop of Nob Hill with views across the city skyline and San Francisco Bay with the peaceful and picturesque surrounding neighborhood are just a start. The room I had was ultra-clean, very large and full of thoughtful amenities. The Big Four Restaurant in the hotel was reminiscent of some of the finer restaurants I have visited in England but with a uniquely American Gourmet Menu. (The Buffalo filet was outstanding) The Huntington Hotel is now one of my top 5 hotel favorites worldwide. When you consider that I spend 100 nights a year in 3-5 star hotels, that is a true compliment.

I was very happy with this hotel; I didn't know anything about it when I booked it except for what I read in the guest reviews. Although my room wasn't anything special, it was very affordable and comfortable enough. I peaked into another guest room and it was laid out better but I was fine where I was. The hotel itself is cozy and has lots of character and the staff were very polite and informative. The highlight for me was the spa, whose pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room are free to guests. I spent a few hours just hanging out down there. I'd definately recommend this hotel to friends and stay here again.

This was a nice find. We didn't expect the hotel to be so ritzy., from the moment you get there the doorman are right there to help with your luggage and take care of your care for storage. Checking in was done in a matter of less than 5 min. This hotel has alot of history and the decor was great. You'd never guess that their spa are was so pretty. I did have a spa treatment and it was wonderful The hotel and spa area were very clean. Our room was wonderful., beds were very comfortable, we had turn down service, and they left you bottles of water on your nightstands. the sitting are was comfortable. If you plan to eat dinner at The Big 4 restaurant, gentleman please bring a blazer or nice jacket., you will need this to sit inside the restaurant. the bar area serves the same food as the restaurant so if you don't have a coat, be sure to at least have a collared button down shirt. You ca enjoy the ambience of the piano player and some great cocktails. Service was great!. For the price that we got the hotel room at, we were very pleased!.

Staying in older hotels in San Francisco can often mean cramped rooms in questionable neighborhoods. While the "Superior Room" at the Huntington isn't huge, it at least has some breathing room, and the hotel itself is in a fine location, at the top of Nob Hill near Grace Cathedral. The Powell-Mason cable car goes right past the hotel, which is convenient. There are still some concessions to limited space: the sink in the bathroom was built over one side of the bathtub, so the shower curtain couldn't be closed all the way. A rather odd design choice, to be sure. I was disappointed by the fact that we had requested a king bed, and that's what I thought I was reserving, but when I arrived they said I had a queen and could pay extra for a room with a king (they had some note in the system that I had requested one). This attempt to upsell for an already pricey room was lame. Noise could be a problem for light sleepers. The sounds of traffic and the cable car are easily heard, and there isn't much soundproofing between the rooms; I was awoken at 1:30 AM by people playing music in the room next to mine. Thankfully they shut it off before long. Overall, it was a fine experience staying here, and compares favorably to other boutique hotels in the area.

When I booked this hotel, I had read many reviews from other guests and I was very excited to stay here. In fact, upon arrival, we were given a 'double upgrade' to a room with a view and a King-size bed, so things were looking up for us. The room was actually a handicap-suite, which would have been fine except for the lack of a normal shower head. The shower was a walk in (again, fine) but the hand-held shower head hit my husband and I in the stomach, making it impossible to take a nice, relaxing hot shower, and when it was in the 50s outside, that was the one thing we both really wanted. This room was beautifully appointed with nice linens, a great headboard, beautiful desk and dresser, etc, and we were very happy with it. After the first night, we decided that we'd rather sleep in a Queen and have a hot shower than vice versa so we requested a room change. The staff was very 'shocked' that we would turn down the upgrade, and made sure to mention this several times during the conversation. The new room that we were placed in was definitely a downgrade, and then some. After seeing the other room we had been put in, our expectations were high. The new room was roomier, but very outdated. There was a bottle-opener left on the spread, suggesting that maybe it was not as clean as we thought. The linens and furniture were very old and mis-matched. In honest, it didn't even look like the same hotel. Throughout the 3 nights that we stayed in this room, there were several spiders in the shower and the room, and I am extremely arachnophobic. I realized in the room switch that I had left an article in the other room. When I inquired about this to the front desk staff, I was told they'd look into it but than told that nothing had been turned in. I was very disappointed because the item held some value to me. I kept inquiring after I had checked our car and all of our luggage and room because I was certain that I had left it in the other room. After inquiring for the 3rd time,

Room was comfortable, clean, and had windows that opened - allowing a cool San Francisco breeze to enter the room. This is a feature I really liked - as I can't open windows in Palm Springs during the summer months. The hotel has an indoor pool and spa that provides a nice view of San Francisco - both through a "wall of glass" from inside the pool/spa area and from the patio deck located a few steps away from the pool. Lounge chairs were available along with tables that provided an additional relaxation experience. This is an upscale property in an older but stately building - with a cable car stop right in front of the hotel. Would recommend this hotel - and would stay again!
