"Rooms are hot, shower doesn't drain properly"
You can't control the room temperature, so it's very hot in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We have a relative living in this building - so having our own space over the weekend was a good thing. There's a parking lot but the buzzer to notify the front desk was out. The guest room was old school, we appreciate that; a step-up ceramic tiled bathroom and coats of paint are OK and, while the bed covers were lumpy, it's laundered consistently. […] However, even with both windows open all the way it was so hot that sleep was IMPOSSIBLE. I turned on the shower... nothing but cold water! As I twisted the knob I realized that I also couldn't turn the water off - just full blast cold water. I tried calling the front desk - it took three calls for him to answer and a maintenance soon showed up. After complaining that he keeps telling them that the faucet is old and sticks (WD40 anyone?) he forced it to put out warm and to shut off. I got my shower - but couldn't turn the water off -again. I could turn it to cold between my shower and my husbands' so the room wasn't over-steamed. He eventually got the water mostly turned off. Then there were the ants. Teeny, tiny ants all over the bathroom. Upon leaving I realized that this room was next to the recyling/trash room - bug Utopia. On checking out the desk clerk that I had talked to about the water problem just accepted the key with no question as to our experience. We have a family wedding in Milwaukee right down the street from this hotel and a lot of family members were planning to stay here - not any more. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Full of Ants."
The room was full of ants. Very dated, but got the room for a decent price. However, $100 for a room with Ants isn't worth it! No control over the temperature in the room, so I had to open the windows, which have no screens, and the windows were difficult to open.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The lobby smelled. The rooms were poorly updated. Foul odors in the hallway and no way to get fresh air into the room. Iron and ironing board provided but no way to plug it in. Likewise with the coffee pot. No refund policy available so we made due but never again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"There is a lot of history in this part of town"
Since the hotel is as old as it is, the heat was radiator heat which had to get a comfort level, too hot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Had a pleasant stay, night desk clerk was exceedingly helpful!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Oldy but Goodie"
If you want shiny new, this is not your ride. However, the price point and nostalgia may be attractive to those who still appreciate historic features and proximity over brand new ammentities. Stayed for two nights with a beautiful lady I had just met and we enjoyed keeping the old windows open, the comfy bed, and wall mount TV with a surprising cable […] package. Close to lake and just a few blocks from Water street and "center" of downtown. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Downtown, reasonable rates, easy off-street parkin"
Hotel is old, and charming. It's been updated. Guests need to be reminded how to use showers. Single room for two a bit crowded. Bed was comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great cheap place"
This was a perfect hotel for a cheap weekend getaway to downtown Milwaukee. Save your money for beer and stay here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved it. It almost feels like you're in the 1920s. The doors have actual metal keys. There are modern amenities, though. It's very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Next stay - book Intercontinental, one block East."
This hotel is tired, as is the staff. Owner(s) doing best they can to keep this giant, from another time, alive. Their rooftop viewing area of Milwaukee was a joke. Frequented by local youth who simply gained access by the rear door and elevator.Genuine Expedia guest review
Had a nice stay, staff was great .Rooms were very clean only draw back but not a deterent the hallways smelt like smoke.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Part of Town"
The Astor is an Historic Registry building that has a lot of potential. However the hallways and rooms are old, musty and in bad need of updating. If refurbished, this could be one of the best in Milwaukee. The price is good and the staff was wonderful, but don't think I'll be staying again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stayed at worse, stayed at a lot better"
Pros: The room was clean, the staff was friendly enough, and the locations was good. It's in downtown Milwaukee so a lot is in walking distance. Cons: The hotel was very dated. In it's day, it was probably awesome, but that day has passed. Bathroom sink was junk (two faucets, the stopper didn't work), the AC unit in the window was really loud and didn't […] cool the room well unless you were in it's direct path -- in which case it was too cold. The Hotel's free Wi-Fi was a joke. For myself and just as a place to sleep for the night, it was fine. But I actually thought it was over-priced ($120 after taxes) for the quality you ended up getting/not getting. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Astor Hotel Milwaukee"
Older boutique hotel which is fine but it smelled like cigarettes even though the staff emphasizes it is a no smoking building. Everything smelled like smoke. My husband and I left as soon as we woke up.Genuine Expedia guest review
awesome! yes the building is old but that is part of what I loved! beautiful architecture you just don't see anymore. room was huge and comfortable. would have liked a small fridge but hey, no worries! quiet and comfortable. staff was greatGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel for the price"
This place looks like it was awesome... Key word being was. Now it's not even as comfortable as a Comfort Inn since everything is old and falling apartGenuine Expedia guest review
"Small rooms in this classic 1920's hotel."
Not many "bells and whistles" but comfortable, quiet and reasonably priced. Beautiful old hotel! Liked it and will probably stay again. Near the lake and downtown area.Genuine Expedia guest review
Good hotel over all, Ricky at reception was very helpful and also when he took us around in the shuttle bus it was much appreciatedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could be so much better"
This is a charming old hotel within walking distance of downtown Milwaukee. Overall I would say it has a convenient location and was serviceable. However, it could do with some care, cleaning, makeover, and maintenance. My main complaint is that the carpet was dirty enough it made my bare feet dirty. Other complaints: all the insulation in the duvet […] was in clumps (apparently improperly laundered, luckily it was warm) and the room was painted one of those institutional, mix-all-the-colors, baby-you-know-what brown. The bed was comfortable. The best part was the bathroom which was clean, had good towels, and had period tile. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall it was pleasant. There's an old school historic charm to the facility. Only fault is the walls are thin and you can hear almost everything. Luckily there were no noisey tenants. Nice restaurant bar. Quaint and charmingGenuine Expedia guest review
Poor customer service. The hotel carpets were running down. Dim lighting in hallways.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The main outside entrance needed repair. The concrete was breaking up and had a hole in it. Two of their beautiful chandeliers remained turned off our entire visit creating a dim and dark check in area. In contrast, the rear entrance was bright and cheery. Our room was clean and comfortable. The service, staff and food was excellent. The shuttle service […] to and from the "Irish Fest" was fantastic. We will stay at the Astor again. "Good for the price"
Way too old for me. I get the whole nostalgic thing, but I wouldnt do it again. Reminded me of my grandmas house, and Im 45.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, close to the lake and Brady St."
I only spent one night at this hotel, so my experience was pleasant and I was comfortable. We were able to walk to many central locations like the lake, museums and eat/drink at Brady St.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old, Rustic Hotel with Character"
The Astor was an old, but well maintained hotel. Everything works.Genuine Expedia guest review
"close to triathlon venue"
Since we were in Milwaukee for a triathlon and needed to get good sleep, we were very pleased with how quiet the rooms were. There was a wedding reception in the hotel but our rooms were still very quiet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location for downtown fun."
No complaints - the hotel is old, but it's comfortable, has a great location and is a classic.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It was a pleasant stay, and the staff was helpful."
We'll stay here again, but the tv didn't get any reception for two says. The breakfast was tasty, but the help was short-handed and the only meal offered was breakfast, despite having a full service kitchen.Genuine Expedia guest review
Looks like a rat motel will never go any where near this place.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location! It was just too outdated for us. The room was too small and the bed was uncomfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great stay except for shower, when room next door use water my shower water became ice cold or scalding hot.Genuine Expedia guest review
"good location, not a restful place"
Although the hotel was close to many things, are experience was below-average at best. Issues with noise (thin walls), very loud A/C (window unit) and a bath tub that would not drain. We were only there a few nights and we went on short notice. I would not recommend this to any other travelers.Genuine Expedia guest review
Our room was more than outdated. In window unit air conditioner that was very loud. No room in bathroom for our toiletries. Bathroom had moth in window - we also found ant and a spider. We were going to stay 4 nights, but left after 2nd night (should have left after first).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
great neighborhood. Close to downtown.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was nice enough, but the pillows were hard as a rock, the blinds barely blocked any light, and there was loud construction outside my room starting at 7am. The most important thing at a hotel is my ability to sleep well, and it failed badly at that task.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"had a great weekend"
Hotel is an historic hotel, rooms are clean, a bit dated ( which is nice if your into retro or historical sites ) And the staff has always been courteous and helpful. Hotel could use some money pumped into for rehab, but its still a solid 3 star place, surrounding area is great, hotel is placed well and most places can be walked too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Location, but could use someTLC"
I chose this hotel for the location and price. I read reviews, which were mixed, but just wanted a close place to crash after a night of dinner, dancing and a few drinks. It is a great location, within walking distance to the river district. The hotel could be spectacular if given a little more TLC. It has great vintage detailing and charm, that should […] be preserved, but needs some repairs. At arrival, we were "upgraded" to the parlor room, which is basically a studio apartment, with full kitchen room, dining and living room etc. The space was nice, but the kitchen floor was peeling and the bathtub too. the carpet could have also used a good cleaning or replacement. I would love to see the owners preserve the vintage charm, like the baby blue tile in the bathroom, the stained glass in the lobby, the old mail slot sysem, the strange door, but make the repairs necessary to keep this piece of history up to date. It has so much potential, but is lacking the love. The staff was wonderful, the place was clean and the room was spacious. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, outdated building"
The hotel is located in the downtown near the lake Michigan and is in a walking distance from many attractions. However, the hotel itself is in a dire need of renovation. Beside the televisions, that are newish, everything looks pretty old and outdated. The bathrooms are tiny, there is no counter space to put anything out. The bathtub had repair patches […] and looked pretty bad. The carpet and chairs had a lot of stains. There was a duvet over the blanket but the blanket was very uncomfortable and all clumpy. The mattress was old and very uncomfortable. We couldn't have breakfast in the hotel's restaurant because the dining room was freezing, the air condition was on full blast, and the waitress told us that she couldn't turn it down. (It was not a hot day) To sum up I would say that the hotel needs to have a major renovation. I would not use it for my future stays and would not recommend it. It has a great potential of combining an old world charm with modern comfort but now it's just old. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This is the second time I have stayed at the Astor and it works very well for me. It is walking distance to a lot of things and I like to walk, etc. You can also park a car very comfortably behind the hotel. Staff great, room great, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everything was delightful about the hotel. The room and service by the front desk and the restaurant were all outstanding. The limo was available and we used that service also.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
No A/C or heat in my room. No insulation (extremely noisy). Smelly. Hair dryer didn't work, but they were quick to get me a replacement. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for."
The hotel was very inexpensive, so you should not expect a lot. It was fine for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Appreciated the continued availability of rooms in a historic hotel in a safe, established area of Milwaukee near Lake Michigan. Breakfasts in the hotel restaurant were well prepared and food was tasty and plentiful and inexpensive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel's older decor was really charming. I only have one complaint. The room's heat is controlled by a timer and it could not be turned off. It had to be about 80 degrees in there and opening the windows did not help. I was pretty angry that the front desk didn't offer to move us. We did not sleep much since it was so hot. I'm very disappointed […] . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but not 3 stars"
As I entered the hotel I was very impressed from the design. it's an antique hotel and looks really nice inside. The person at the desk was very nice and accommodating. He suggested I'd get a parking pass for $10 later on I discovered it's possible to park in the streets around the hotel. The room looked nice at first, sufficient space, nice TV and […] a nice office chair. The bathroom was a different story: tub floor was peeling and the know was broken (took pics but can't upload them from the phone), at night I learned my sheets were rigid and itchy as if they were washed just too many times. I had to stay up till the middle of the night since I clearly hear every door shut and every person yelling and partying in the room. Due to the structure of the halls I could tell where it was coming from and report to manager. My rating reflects a decent stay but a terrible night. Hotel is nice and maybe was 3 stars last century but it isn't one now. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to downtown activities but lacking."
Stayed for a Saturday night, free shuttle to downtown sites was nice but could have gone to perhaps midnight instead of 11 or 11:30pm for pick-ups, ok room but no AC and the room was hot and facing the sun, clerk had no idea which rooms faced which direction when asked for a lake view room, doors are hollow (neat original out-going laundry thin double […] doors) and you could everything taking place in the hallway, clean rooms but strange food smells in the hallways from the rooms that may be apartments (maybe they should alternate floors if they continue that option), lobby and other areas of the first floor where beautifully restored and it's an historic hotel but it just needs some updating, fix the squeaking elevator door, secure parking gate was broken, etc. They're on to something and have a great location and a great old building, it just needs a bit of new life and energy put into it and it would be fantastic.
