"Fun weekend prior to St. Patrick's Day."
Distillery tour which was awesome, weekend with friends and family so many laughs. Enjoyed eating at Buckley's (very cool), and the hotel was a great location amongst other historical buildings. I would definitely stay again at The Astor and have already recommended it to many friends.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is located near the area where I needed to be. So I stayed there in two different occasions. The first time the tv did not work; this other time, there was not hair dryer, and they totally forgot my wake up call. If you get a good rate via Expedia, the hotel is ok and, depending on what brings you to Milwaukee, well located.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel, great venue for private event!! Would definitely stay again and rent out ballroom...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Astor is a historic building with just enough upgrades to make it comfortable while keeping its vintage charm. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was $10 a night but worth it in a secure lot. Breakfast was not included, but the restaurant breakfast was excellent and inexpensive by city standards. My only complaint is that the rooms […] are not very soundproof, and this was a problem the first night of my stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I think it is a cool old hotel with lots of history and a nice location. However they need to update the beds. Felt like you were sleeping on a slab of cement! Also the heating is a choice of boiling hot, or freezing cold. I would stay again only if I need a cheap place to lay my head for a few hours.Genuine Expedia guest review
small room and uncomfotable bed. resteraunt is closed at night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything was fine. The only issue was we signed up for a room with one queen and the actual room had two beds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We have to change rooms, window was cracked, pulling away from building and cold air leaking in. hot water heat, made 2nd room a little cold. just an old buildingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"old and uncomfortable"
This hotel is now well past its prime -- at least when it came to the room that we stayed in. Uncomfortable and lumpy bed, really old-fashioned bathroom (where the hot and cold water taps in the sink are separate), no ventilation (which made the room very stuffy), and on top of it all, the key card for the main door to the hotel (locked at night) did […] not work; neither did the key card for the parking lot behind the hotel (which they also did not bother to salt or clean after a snow storm). All in all, not a good value and not a good option any longer despite the central location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The Astor is an old hotel which has been maintained fairly well. The rooms are large and comfortable and the service people are helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A great stay"
Hotel is a defiantly old school but has a wonderful charm. The location is great and staff helpful. They have free shuttle that will take you any where in the city! There is a $10 parking fee, but the great room rate, and location worth it. I will stay here againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"convenient and comfortable"
The hotel lobby was well maintained and beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was rather small but clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is located just north of downtown, within easy walking distance of most downtown venues.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay hotel, GREAT staff"
Went for a weekend trip and the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The rooms are nothing special and don't have a lot of space, but if you just need a place to sleep, this hotel is great for the price. We had to check out early for a family emergency, and the staff offered a refund for the night we didn't stay […] with no hassle. The hotel itself is very cool and interesting. "Bad bad bad......."
Outside of the guy I met checking in, the two night stay was disastrous. Room were/are terribly outdated. Only amenities are wi fi and Direc tv. GF tripped over lip going in bathroom 3x (bathroom higher than living area). Got locked in room ( thank God there was no fire!!) Maintenance comes, suggests I should sleep with door open!!! Moved to different […] room. Plumbing in shower drained slow, and tv was inop. Ants in room. After all that, knocked off $20 ($10 a night for parking). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was clean, and I liked the 'old world charm' of the subway tiled bathroom with the claw foot tub and pedestal sink. The water pressure was great which is the main thing that bugs me in hotels. The bathroom sink, however, had separate hot and cold water faucets (think about it....). There were no individual room temperature controls that I […] could find, but it remained comfortable. If you're a person who likes to have things run cooler or hotter than most, it would be a problem. The bed and pillows were very nice. The desk staff tried to be helpful, but when I asked about things to do, they had no idea of things going on locally, nor did they recommend a resource, so I used the Internet to find local events. The hotel food was good, but I only had breakfast there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Really neat old hotel"
Given that it's old, you get old hotel sounds (the doors are thin. Sometimes there is air in the pipes), but in my opinion, it's worth it. I'd highly recommend staying at the Astor. The staff are very helpful, there's a free shuttle that drives you anywhere in a 2-mile radius, and the building is really neat.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Been there, done that, won't do it again."
The hotel was old, which we knew, but the room we had was very small, we could barley move around. My brother's room across the hall was much larger, maybe 6'. The biggest problem, is the neighborhood, very noisey, people in the street until 3-4 am, everynight, very loud.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great restaurants close by and great staff"
The hotel was clean and bright. The room was a little stuffy but the windows were able to be opened and that worked out well. The County Clare pub across the street is great food and great people. Our stay was wonderful and I have no complaints about anything. The water pressure in the shower was more that satisfactory. I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great place to stay if you want to experience an older vintage hotel. We enjoyed our stay. It was nice and clean. If you like a worn in place to say I would definitely recommend it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Classy Vintage Hotel"
The staff was very pleasant and so helpful! We came to stay at The Astor because we left another hotel due to not being taken care of based on the amenities that the hotel states that they have. We will definitely make the Astor a first choice the next time we are in Milwaukee.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old character with some updates"
It was a nights stay for a wedding in Milwaukee. Didn't spend much time at the hotel. Shuttle service was a major advantage.Genuine Expedia guest review
"VERY vintage but good location"
The rooms are in desperate need of updating (old leaky windows that didn't shut properly b/c of massive A/C unit, door that has to be slammed shut to close, bathroom door didn't close properly and would pop open unexpectedly, etc.). The window didn't have any curtains, so the morning light was disturbing, and we had to play white noise from our phones […] and turn the A/C fan on just to drown out the conversations of the other guests (which we could hear clearly). Despite the facility, the location is great and within walking distance of many great restaurants/bars and only a very short drive to several attractions. It's also a block or so from the water, which is lovely. If you are not planning on spending much time in your room, it's a great value. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I was expecting a classy historic hotel. This wasn't it. It wasn't bad, just dull and a bit run down. But it did seem clean!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"affordable, comfortable but a bit gloomy"
Clean but our room was gloomy. Qualtiy of furniture was poor. (All drawers were un useable) Mattress quite good, No day light, If blinds opened the window had peeling paint and dirty. Other rooms (court side) were much more cheerful. Very quiet. Great television. grout and tiles in bathroom in disrepair. Nice lobby-old syle. Breakfast special a super […] deal except workers kept the morning TV programs blasting so the whole restaurant had to listen. Talk about torture! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, exceptional value."
Came to Milwaukee for a get-a-way weekend and were not disappointed. Walking distance to area restaurants and bars. Hotel provides free limo service to within 2-miles of hotel but if not busy, you can probably talk the driver in to taking you all the way to the Miller Brewery (Thanks guys!). We tried only the breakfast in the hotel restaurant but it […] was GREAT!. The staff in the entire facility gets 5-star ratings from our group of 4. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Vintage Hotel - Great Experience!"
My boyfriend and I chose The Astor for our weekend trip to Milwaukee because it was fairly close to the Milwaukee Rep Theatre (where we had show tickets) and looked cozy. The hotel itself is an old building - built in the 1920's. You can tell the hotel is not new, but that had a fun kind of charm to it, which we enjoyed very much. The staff was very […] nice, the lobby and hallways are beautiful and the room, while a little small, was comfortable and very clean. The walk to the sights downtown wasn't bad at all, and there was a nice bar/restaurant in the hotel lobby. All in all, a wonderful stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Service was very good. Rate is good. Hotel and rooms very clean. Dated, but it is almost 100 years old. My complaint would be the bathroom. Not much space to set anything on pedestal type sink. Water pressure in shower was terrible. Glad I do not have much hair. Also a little creepy with the Halloween decorations at the end of a long hall. Expected […] to hear redrum and see the twin girls. "Have stayed there before"
Great location good rates walked to one of the theaters along the river walk.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel needs updates - everything is outdated including a window air conditioning unit?? I know some of the other guests in our party did not have hot water one morning. Other than that, the hotel staff is helpful and the shuttle comes in very handy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice affordable downtown stay"
It's a great place unless you can only do "new and modern". Other than that it's perfect for half the price of all the new chains. Close to Lake Michigan and a cheap $5-6 cab ride down to the riverwalk area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient and reasonably priced"
The hotel is nice. It's an older building so could use some updates. Price was reasonable and close to our venue.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved the lobby and found the staff to be especially helpful and friendly. The room was clean, but quite small. It did have a large closet, however. We enjoyed the ease of parking and the location near downtown.Genuine Expedia guest review

"An oldie but a goodie."
Nicely appointed older, smaller hotel (built 1920). Self-serve on premise parking for $10/day. Nice neighborhood. Free Shuttle within 2 miles of hotel which will get you to many places. This hotel is a historic building. I was traveling with an 87 year old who loved the old look and feel, but we could have used a bell hop. Very friendly staff. Clean […] but older bathrooms. We reserved a room with one queen but asked and were upgraded to a room with 2 queens at check-in. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Poor hotel service!"
I stayed at the Astor two nights and did not receive clean towels or any hotel service the second night until I called the desk that second evening to complain. I was informed that there was nobody there to clean my room, so they brought towels, etc. up to the room and handed them to me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Astor is a pretty nice place, but is decidedly "no frills". The staff were very nice and the bar was staffed with a great great group of folks. The location is convenient to the lake and Brady Street area. I was in town for work and the room was quiet and the free wi-fi a definite plus. The roof top deck with bar and kitchen service is was an unexpected […] gem. A good choice for folks looking for a budget conscious option that is clean, comfortable and not scary. I would totally stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
was unhappy with the whole overall experience. The room was tiny, the bed uncomfortable and above the main floor the place looked in crumbling disrepair. Couldn't shut the taps in the bathroom all the way so listened to water dripping when in the room. Supposedly had a shuttle service to the waterfront venue we had chosen. Had to ask three times for […] a receipt at the end of the stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to hip part of Milwaukee"
Hotel is old, but I knew that going into it. Just needed a place to sleep and wanted a place close to Brady Street or downtown. Staying downtown is expensive.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Small but nice"
Helpful staff. Hotel is in a neighborhood a ways off downtown attractions, but close to a grocery store. Shuttle service that lasts until 8 pm is great (and the cab back from downtown was about $5). I only needed one bed, so the room was smaller, but exactly what I needed. They use old-school *actual* keys for the rooms and the rest of the place has […] that feel. Overall a nice place to wind down after doing whatever you're doing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"a pleasing stay at the Astor Hotel"
The staff of this hotel were very helpful, and the cleaning lady did a very nice job cleaning the room.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice Hotel....small but sufficient"
It was nice and comfortable. It reminded me of an apartment instead of a hotel room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A Nice Stay"
A fine hotel with old-time 20's-30's vibe, outstanding big band music piped in, very friendly staff, great location. There were two things I didn't like (both concerning the bathroom): no exhaust fan, and the shower didn't work right - the shower head sprayed hot water while out of the main faucet flowed the cold water. I had to take a bath instead […] of a shower. But my girlfriend, however, made it work with some jiggling around of the faucet handles. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Well maintained character"
The Astor is an older hotel that has been very well maintained. The rooms have a few contemporary upgrades such as flat screen tv's, fashionable bed linens & basic decor. But it's definitely not a cookie-cutter experience like you'll find at a chain hotel. Our room was very clean & the only "complaint" is that the 20+ year old shower head needed replaced […] ... a minor issue. Overall, the location was perfect for us (we like walking and the neighborhood was easy to navigate and well lit) and we'd return. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Historic Hotel in National Registry"
This is a well maintained historic residential hotel (very upscale in 1920)near the lakefront with easy walking distance to the historic eastside of town and to downtown Milwaukee. They have a free shuttle to take you within two miles of the hotel, but I suggest walking since it is a lovely, older neighborhood (Note a nostalgic bias since I lived a […] half a block from this hotel 45 years ago.). The downside of the hotel is that it has not been updated to current hotel standards, i.e., still uses room keys, only modifications to the rooms have been to replace worn out areas-like bathrooms-with the exception of the lobby which seems to have been kept in its original, ornate condition. "astor milwaukee stay"
The hotel is historic, if not quite old. Have lived in Milwaukee in the past. I needed a convenient location for my stay. The Astor fit the bill for an overnight stay. Probably would not stay again for a longer period.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Showered with Bad Maintenance"
Rooms are out of date. Feels like staying at Grandma's house. It was a little dingy and my wife wouldn't walk around barefoot. While taking a cold shower, because there was no hot water, the shower would randomly shut off. Location was great for Summerfest/Beach goers, but I would not stay at this hotel again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Historic Hotel in Grand Old Neigborhood"
If you like historic hotels with charm you should check out the Astor. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood is a great architectural walk with lots of churches and cathedrals plus you are just steps to Veteran's Memorial Park and Lake Michigan. Great locations for walks to downtown, the lake, or going for a jog. I like […] places with history and charm so I prefer to stay at places that not cookie cutter like most modern hotel chains.
