It could have been an awesome vacation if it weren't for those low life other resort guests. They didn't have any mannerism nor any decorum. I expect Hyatt resort to be high class but never low class. My wife and I saw families hoarded a fire pit all for themselves all day and night while others were hoarding the area of two swimming pools out of three. […] While we were buying our drinks and snacks, these families were bringing their own cheap snacks. Bringing a no name brand and those dollar store brand of snacks in a pool with the "well-off" guests are not appropriate. Keep it in your room! Now, that's out, our room was well clean and near their golf course, fitness room and pool. Most staffs were friendly but not that true friendly. The resort were walking distance to Balboa Island and Fashion Island which a little bit further walk. I like that the resort has different movie night for the children. It also make available the bike rental and their nine hole golf course within the resort. It makes it very conveient. It is also close to different beaches. Read more

The Hyatt Newporter is a great Hotel in an excellent location. The summer concert series is another reason to stay and catch some amazing music on the lawn. If the Hotel wasn't under construction for so long and the restaurant was closed, I would give it 5 stars. The lamp on the entry table would not work due to the burned out surge protector. Plugged lamp directly into wall outlet to work. Could not turn on DVD player and plugged that directly into wall outlet sans surge proector too. Wall safe was locked and could not be opened. Management had to unlock the safe. Got out of shower to discover no hair dryer. […] Front door was difficult to open without a very hard pull or extra push to close. The hotel has undergone a remodel since my last stay, it is very nice. Rooms are great with excellent room service and service in the restaurant. This stay was for a romantic, surprise birthday celebration for my boyfriend. Our stay was very pleasant, once we got checked-in. There was a delay, getting checked in. The room was very nice and clean once we got in, and it overlooked a fun pool area, which was surrounded by beautiful landscaping. The self parking, OMG, is ridiculous! Self parking, […] is like a punishment for those not using the $29 valet service (which we all know by the time you add tip, it's $35). And then the valet attendant makes a snide remark when we chose to self park; and then he tries to laugh it off as a joke. To self park, they charge $20, but then you have to hike up a huge hill. We are both in very good physical shape, but this hike was a little much after eating a big dinner, late at night. When self parking, there are a couple of signs that you really don't see in the dark, but it reads something like "just because you park down here, you don't have to walk"...then in very small print it says to call a phone number and someone will pick you up in a golf cart. It was dark, we were tired, we didn't notice the signs until we left the next day. Yeah, again, the room itself was really, really nice, and worth the price charged. Was disappointed on the parking fees. Probably won't repeat this hotel unless the parking situation changes. Read more

I was amazingly impressed by the staff. From check in to the valet service to the check out...it was by far the best group of people we have been assisted by. The ease of making the reservation was and all our requests were far above expectation. It was my husbands birthday, and we had a room with a good view...accomodations for our dog were perfect...and […] a great surprise with a complementary champagne, fruit and cheese plate arrived at our room. We received exact instructions and directions from the valet personnel, and I really would recommend your hotel just based on the staff alone. The only suggestion I have is the parking. We were in the Lido section, and the walk was so far. I have never had to walk that far to get to my car. I am sure it cannot be avoided given the setting. Had "just remodeled" room with uncomfortable bed, cheap melamine carbonate for closet, disgustingly dirty patio furniture we couldn't even sit on. Hot tub closed. Ongoing remodel so had to carry luggage up long hill as entrance closed. Horrible stay!

My stay was excellent. Having the possibility of Starbucks coffee & bagels/muffins in the lobby OR a full breakfast in the restaurant was a nice option. Great lobby areas with an open library-style living room for working on a laptop was very comfortable. Hyatt is doing a great deal of renovation/upgrading on the site at the moment (March 2013); on […] one side of the hotel there was construction noise until 4 pm every day. It would have been nice to have had free internet in the rooms during this segment of time as compensation. Shuttle bus runs regularly from Orange County Airport, Fashion Island and Balboa Island. Room was musty ... Door closed but the cracks were enough for anything to crawl in. The bathroom walls had holes from excessive moisture . Overpriced for parking which we had to walk a great distance to get to because they were renovating. Self parking 20 dollars charges....to use the tennis courts 20 dollars... in room internet charges... or anything […] advertised had a charge. It was way overpriced and run down for the cost. Won't return. Plenty of nicer and cheaper hotels around the area. Expedia should note the additional charges clearly because I was surprised by it when I got there and was stuck thee. The valet opened my boyfriend's car door into another car and never even apologized. That was upon check in. Upon check out, they couldn't find our keys, leaving us utterly panicked. Then it dawned upon someone that the car was stack parked and therefore the key was in it. The delay in looking caused us to be late for our breakfast date with another […] couple. I have never written or posted a review before but this hotel was absolutely awful and I cannot in good conscience let others stay here without warning! I stayed at the Hyatt Newport for an evening banquet and a private corporate brunch the next morning. The banquet and brunch staff was phenomenal, prompt, courteous, and well-organized and so was the […] valet staff. I wish this service and quality carried over to the front desk and housekeeping! The rooms were not four star quality, one star at best. The carpets are dirty, there was dirt and hair in the corners, my bathtub and vanity was gross and the rooms are in desperate need of a remodel. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from above, below, to the side and outside in the hallway. The curtains didn't close all the way so there was a light shining into my room and in my eyes all night and I couldn't get any sleep because of it. I booked a King room and received a double bed room - but the beds were more the size of a glorified twin. It took me an hour to get my luggage from the bellhop because the front desk forgot to let the bell hop know to deliver my bags and I had to call three times to remind them over the course of an hour, which made me late for getting ready for the banquet. It then took another 45 minutes for me to get my bags from my room to my car and two calls to the front desk to remind them to send a bell hop. Read more
